We went here today for lunch and the service was good. It was clean inside and spacious. That's the good. I had the basa and wings with mac and cheese and fried mushrooms. The fish was really good, 2 of the 4 wings were either not fully cooked or seemed old. Mac and cheese was the worst I have ever had. It didn't taste like anything. Just noodles with watery milk. No salt, no cheese flavor at all! Mushrooms were ok. My hubby had a fish sandwich and the breading and pickle slices were thicker than the fish filet, which was over cooked. Onion rings were ok though. My mom got fish, fries and okra. Her fish was over cooked too. Her fries and okra were ok. If you have never tried lutfi's then you probably aren't a KC native. This location took over the old fun house pizza location in Raytown. I suggest you call ahead and order as you will have about 20 min wait. They drop the food fresh right then and there as you order. I appreciate that their fries aren't cooked in the same grease as the fish! The fish is always cooked perfectly with a nice crunch and season on the outside. My friend gave me his slice of bread so I made a catfish and chips sandwich drowned in Trappey's Hot Sauce! I could drink that sauce out of the bottle! The food is made fresh to order, so it's the wait! The first time we came here, we orderes dinners for 5, the only thing I remember is a ton of catfish and everyone giving me their hush puppies! Also, sent home with a bag of tiny sauce containers full of the hot sauce, I was in fried food heaven. Their fries and other sides are okay, i mainly come for the fish! Snack packs mon-fri 10am - 2pm are only $6 and some change. Their dinners are a bit pricey but you get a lot of food with that price. I didn't realize Lufti's existed in Raytown, until it was pointed out to me. It's the same Lufti's that is on Parallel in Kansas City, KS, which I am very familiar with. Lufti's is down home, no frills and looks like it could be snuggled in an area in the Ozarks. Lufti's sells catfish and chicken, plus a couple of other choices. they are the only place in this area that does what they do, and they fry that catfish well. You walk in, and are greeted by a smiling face, and a menu. For 8.39 (approx.) you can get 12 pound of fried catfish. For 12.00 (approx.), you can get 1 lb. There's all you can eat on Sundays. With your selection, you get 2 sides. Go ahead and try to choose just 2. I chose onion rings, and red beans a rice. Good choice. Out of green beans, hush puppies, red beans and rice, onion rings, French fries, cole slaw, it was tough to choose. The meal comes with 2 pieces of potato bread. You can choose your fish to be blackened or steamed; never in my life would I succumb to that. The restaurant is long and narrow. There is a room for parties or meetings, called the "Obama Room." There is atleast one television.There's a few tables, nothing fancy whatsoever. I sat and waited for my to go food. It took about 10 minutes. The woman at the counter asked me if I wanted hot sauce. I answered, 'I never turn down hot sauce with fried fish." The fish is served in styrofoam containers, mine, to go. All location give the same taste and experience but I would have to say the location in Grandview the macaroni and cheese would be my favorite. The mac and cheese in Raytown was watery with no flavor. The green beans at all locations, are overwhelmed with the same seasoning that do not compliment the green beans. We ordered 1 pound of their mac & cheese, 1 pound of onion rings, and a pound of catfish. We enjoyed the catfish better Han a well known catfish place in the area. More flavorful seasoning. None of the food was greasy. When all was said and done, we thought we had a real treat. The macaroni and cheese was a basic variety but the sauce actually tasted cheesy unlike some restaurants. The man behind the counter was very nice and told us our best bet would be the family meal which came with 2lbs of catfish, 2 large sides and bread. We ordered the two sides he said were most popular which were Mac and cheese and green beans, and then some red beans and rice, greens, and hush puppies too. The food came out and we were quick to try everything. No one at our table had any complaints, which is rare since we're all a bit picky in our own way. Everything was great! We practically fought over the last hush puppy, definitely should have ordered a large. We all found ourselves saying "I'm so full but it's all so good I can't stop eating!" This place has become a new favorite of mine. I loooooovvveee catfish and this place does it right. Breaded, not battered, lightly fried, not too greasy, and lots of southern flavor. They even make their own tartar sauce! When you walk in, you order at the counter. Everything is made to order right in front of you, and when you get it (in a styrafoam "to go" box, no less) it's piping hot and mouth-wateringly delicious smelling. The atmosphere? Meh, it's kind of blah. Usually pretty quiet, not too many people stay there and eat. Not too much decor going on in there either. I took a star away, for one reason. The side dishes. They have some weird side dishes. I normally get red beans and rice with mine, which is FANTASTIC, but who wants spaghetti and marinara sauce with fried fish? the service isn't exactly friendly, but not rude either. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall joints you must try with great food in large servings. You get 3 pieces of fried fish with 2 sides - more than one person can eat. Served with texas toast and a very good home made tartar sauce. I had the whiting, having had a bad catfish experience in the past, with sweet potato fries and red beans and rice. No complaints! It was a lot of food and they really know how to cook it! Lufti's is truly a diamond in the rough; relative to the very short list of bearable restaurants in Raytown. A friend and I used to go there every night after work. It would be close before closing time and I know how customers who tend to do that get annoying. However, the employees never once showed a grain of annoyance and always made us feel welcomed. Customer service is absolutely wonderful. The charm of an employee is very important to me. It has that feel of a south grown fish fry grub spot; that can quickly turn you into a regular. Every once in a awhile they will get their whole cat, and that is what I order every time it is available. My back up meal is a standard 4 cat fingerlings. I recommend getting red beans and Mac as your sides and mixing in the generous amounts of hot sauce they give you. If you prefer bland foods then this is NOT the place for you. In the end, I truly enjoy a nice soulful meal that has been seasoned to perfection and if you agree; then this is the place for you. read more
