So glad we tried this place! Being from Florida and going to a seafood place in a landlocked state is not usually something I do. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was amazing, full of helpful info about the menu. He told us how the seafood comes in fresh. He recommended oysters to us, and since it was our first time, he threw in a couple of his favorites at no charge. It was also happy hour, and we took advantage of the specials, ordering the cheddar biscuits drizzled with honey and the colossal cocktail shrimp. They really were huge and delicious. We also enjoyed half-price oysters. My husband loved the crushed cocktails We split the mahi-mahi, and we loved how he told us about the fresh fish that had never been frozen and whether it was wild or farm-raised. The mahi was incredible. You could tell it was fresh. We enjoyed the potatoes and the BéreBlanc sauce. This is going to be a place that we will end up becoming regulars at. Pearl has a great happy hour every day, from 3-6 with dollar oysters from 3-4. They also offer some of the best seafood in the city. My dad always gets the fish and chips. Huge pieces of beer battered Cod. I don't think I've ordered the same thing twice. The Fresh Sheet shows what is available fresh, then the full menu features prepared seafood. The seafood Boil and Ciopinno are prepared as they are, so no modifications. The service is attentive, but on my last visit I had to request additional utensils for the Raw Oysters. Dessert is house made and delicious. The servers bring around a tray like at M & S Grille and McCormick and Schmick's. I know I'm a bit behind on my reviews again, but posting now other than later is still fine. lol.. I'm doing my best to keep up with what life is throwing at me. That being awkwardly included and all, sis and I dined on some of the best food I've had in a while. We shared smoked oysters topped with bread crumps and parmesan, a super spicy and flavorful salsa-type appetizer with habanero that came with surprisingly flavorful chips lol, we shared some crab cakes, a beautiful aquatic-toned alcoholic drink, and shared one of the best trout dishes I have ever had in my entire human life! 0__0 The rainbow trout was our favorite part of that entire experience, which was tough to decide on honestly.. My 2nd best thing were those oysters! Our waiter was so kind and entertaining, and I really hope we get him the next time I visit! If I remember correctly, his name was Tristin. Thankfully due to how early we were there that day, the restaurant wasn't super packed, so we had plenty of breathing air for most of our visit. During the last 15 minutes it began filling up! I've been to Pearl Tavern a few times now, and it consistently hits the mark. This visit we had the Delaware Bay oysters (hard to beat the happy hour price), Caesar salad, popcorn shrimp, and fish and chips. Everything was fresh and well-executed--the oysters especially stood out. It wasn't overly busy for a Saturday, which made for a comfortable experience. The only downside was the service. Our server was polite but not very present, and we spent a good chunk of the meal with empty glasses. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. The tables are also very close together, so don't plan on having an intimate conversation where you are not having to talk over the noise, to be able to be heard by your dining companion(s). We came here on a Saturday evening. They were pretty busy so make a reservation (as we did) if you are coming on a busy night. We sat in one of the middle high tables. That, I wasn't a fan of because you're in the middle of the floor between the people sitting at the bar and booths. Our waitstaff was very nice and made sure we had what we needed. I visited twice this week. The first time was for happy hour and then for lunch. Both were fantastic. It has been awhile since I was there because my husband hates any type of fish/seafood. The resturant looks very similiar however, there was not one hint of a fishy smell that some resturants have with this type of menu. For Happy Hour we ordered the calamari and mussels and both were absolutley fantastic! The calamari was the best I tasted in a while, not heavily breaded but had a delightful crunch. The happy hour drink specials were reasonable and the waiter was very good. It was enjoyable. When I was asked to meet friends for lunch two days later I suggested Pearl. I had the grilled chicken tacos, shrimp tacos Shrimp PoBoy and the Cod sandwich. We all enjoyed the food. When the Shrimp PoBoy was delivered we all wanted to change our order - the shrimp was beautifully deep fried, and each were a nice size. There so many shrimp - and of course tasted fantastic. Both tacos came with black rice. It had a great taste and each of us ate all the rice. The blackend fish was fantastic. The waiter was great, very efficient and friendly. I chose Pearl for a special birthday party and used their private dining room. What an awesome experience and superb choice. From the planning with Tanya, to our server, Nattaly, to the staff, shucker. bartender, chef and support staff the evening was beyond my expectations. We dine regularly at the Pearl but the meal section, fish of the day, fillet and seafood boil were well beyond the regular dining room. The shrimp were huge and the key lime pie really good. My wife and I love this place! We randomly stumbled across it one day before moving here, luckily during the happy hour. It's such a nice big restaurant with a fun atmosphere. It feels a little higher end but also casual at the same time. We love the crab dip and make sure to get that every time. The po boys, clams, and lobster Mac are also some of are favorites. Hate to say we've also tried every slice of pie there. They're all great but the Reese's takes gold. Highly recommend! read more

We tried this place for the first time tonight. It was pretty good. I was a little dubious about eating oysters in the middle of America, but these were good. They had a wide selection of oysters and I picked three of them and they were lovely. I also had the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, and the prawns were enormous if not a wee bit overcooked. They were kind of chewy. The cocktail sauce was excellent. My wife shared the calamari appetizer with her sister, and they both enjoyed it. The hush puppies were excellent! My wife shrimp was a little bit too spicy for her. The menu said hot shrimp, which she assumed to be warm, but it was actually spicy. I had the crispy fish tacos and they were wonderful. I like spicy things and especially enjoyed the habanero salsa. We were all too full for dessert, but they did look good. We are happy to return to Pearl Tavern soon. read more

Food was wonderful, as usual! Service not so good. Got there 5 minutes before 3 for the happy hour oysters and our waiter, Tristan, knew we were going to order oysters at 3:00. He led us to believe that he had put our order in at 3:00. Forty-five minutes later we found out he had not and never stopped at our table to ask what we needed. He finally brought our order at 3:50 or so. We put our food order in case we never saw him again. Aggravated watching him bring customers who got there quite a bit after we did get their oysters. The couple we were with did not get their salad and told him to cancel them when he delivered the main course. This is our second visit for Pearl Tavern, thanks to restaurant week. Got there a little early and had some happy hour cocktails served by Deante. We joined our family for dinner. The fresh fish of the day was cobia, so ordered the grilled Cobia with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The fish had a nice buttery rich flavor, cooked perfectly and paired well with the creamy mashed potatoes. For the appetizer, I chose the blue crab dip from the restaurant week menu. The chips were too greasy & disappointing. My boyfriend got the clam chowder which very creamy and flavorful. For dessert I had the chocolate chess pie. It was a good mix of sweet, crunchy and salty. We have gone a couple times now. The first time was for my 40th birthday about 15 of us went. Another was for a girls night with some friends. Both times were awesome. The restaurant itself is cute. Couple things stood out that we didn't like. Tables had a divider, slightly weird and uncomfortable. Luckily the family that sat on the other side of the divider were friendly, I'd opt out for table seating, moving forward and would consider the half booth/table. They were busy Saturday evening. With reservations, upon arrival we got seated immediately. Drinks came out within 5-10 mins, however the food - we thought they forgot my food (ceviche), it took nearly 30 mins for it. And unfortunately it was so spicy, I couldn't finish it. Almost immediately, after my first bite, my nose starts running and I'm just sweating from the spice. I've never had issues with spicy food but this was uncomfortably spicy. My sister was taken aback at how spicy it was. I brought it home & my husband was confused as to how ceviche could be this spicy. Went to Pearl Tavern in Lees Summit for the first time on 3/2/25. It is tucked away behind some buildings, so it is hard to miss if you're not paying attention. Upon entering it has sort of an open concept. The bar sets to the left and is noticeable upon entering, though it is not very big. The restaurant was clean and did not have any weird smells. We ordered shrimp tacos, shrimp cocktail and gumbo. The shrimp was huge and learned from the cook they came from the Gulf of America and the cocktail sauce was delicious. The gumbo was very flavorful. The drinks were good and strong. The food was excellent, the food presentation was great. The cook was absolutely amazing. He educated us on how he made the gumbo and how he cooks other dishes. The server wasn't very attentive, maybe he was having bad day...it happens. Nevertheless, we will come back to enjoy the food and maybe rap with the cook some more. read more

That's a pretty good deal for some fresh tasty oysters. We also ordered ceviche, mussels, and blue crap dip. All 3 items were under $10. And the portion is shareable for two people. I've experienced times where the RW offering was almost same cost as menu but never where it cost a premium. Anyway hubby and I each got a smash drink, I got the Mermaid and it was delicious. Then we shared the blue crab dip which was amazing. I got the fish and chips and it was enormous. I think I ate 1/3 of it. The fish was very fresh tasting but the batter was a little thicker than I like. Loved the cole slaw and the fries were top notch. The tarter sauce was also amazing. First time having dinner here. It was a mixed bag. We ordered beers. Mine came lukewarm and in a bottle. The waitress didn't offer to pour it in a glass. I asked if they had a side Caesar salad. She said they did and asked if we wanted it before the meal. I said yes but it came with the meal. It wasn't a side salad it was the full sized salad and it was very different. Olives and tomatoes. I gotta say that if you're in the mood for seafood in KC that the Pearl Tavern is where I recommend you go. The lobster roll is my favorite since the sauce is exquisite and they give you a perfect amount of lobster. The roll itself is delicious too. I've never had bad service and even when I've overheard someone have a problem it's always taken care of really quickly. It's a fun place to go and has a rotating variety of fresh seafood. The decor isn't overwhelming and adds to the experience quite nicely. We tried the calamari for happy hour and it was delicious. We've also had the crab dip with their naan bread and can definitely recommend that appetizer as well.
