I absolutely adore this place and wish I could go more often. My husband doesn't love fish as much as I do haha. Food is always stellar, service is unmatched and overall the atmosphere is wonderful in my experience.

We came for my husband's birthday, and weren't disappointed! We love oysters which is why I chose this particular restaurant. With attentive service that was knowledgeable and unobtrusive and a quiet ambiance we knew we were in for a treat. The oysters were delicious, we reordered three times.

I've been to Pearl Tavern a few times now, and it consistently hits the mark. This visit we had the Delaware Bay oysters (hard to beat the happy hour price), Caesar salad, popcorn shrimp, and fish and chips. Everything was fresh and well-executed--the oysters especially stood out. It wasn't overly busy for a Saturday, which made for a comfortable experience. The only downside was the service. Our server was polite but not very present, and we spent a good chunk of the meal with empty glasses. Not a dealbreaker, but noticeable. Still, the quality of the food and the laid-back vibe keep us coming back. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you can catch the oyster deal.

Tried some different items on my second visit here and enjoyed everything. Service is still superb and the atmosphere relaxing. Still a perfect place for a nice classy happy hour.

This is definitely a great hangout with your friends. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We loved every single dishes we order including the dessert. And the biggest perk is that they have happy hour every day so I had to get my $1 oyster. First time experience and I will definitely come back.

I tried the oysters from the East and West Coast . The Bartenders at the bar are awesome ! Love their hospitality here. The space is big I'm surprised they are not packed out !

We tried this place for the first time tonight. It was pretty good. I was a little dubious about eating oysters in the middle of America, but these were good. They had a wide selection of oysters and I picked three of them and they were lovely. I also had the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, and the prawns were enormous if not a wee bit overcooked. They were kind of chewy. The cocktail sauce was excellent. My wife shared the calamari appetizer with her sister, and they both enjoyed it. The hush puppies were excellent! My wife shrimp was a little bit too spicy for her. The menu said hot shrimp, which she assumed to be warm, but it was actually spicy. I had the crispy fish tacos and they were wonderful. I like spicy things and especially enjoyed the habanero salsa. We were all too full for dessert, but they did look good. We are happy to return to Pearl Tavern soon.

Service was amazing and the food/ drinks came out fast considering it was packed the day I went. Lobster roll was a little less flavorful than I'd prefer but it was good.

This is our second visit for Pearl Tavern, thanks to restaurant week. Got there a little early and had some happy hour cocktails served by Deante. We joined our family for dinner. The fresh fish of the day was cobia, so ordered the grilled Cobia with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The fish had a nice buttery rich flavor, cooked perfectly and paired well with the creamy mashed potatoes. For the appetizer, I chose the blue crab dip from the restaurant week menu. The chips were too greasy & disappointing. My boyfriend got the clam chowder which very creamy and flavorful. For dessert I had the chocolate chess pie. It was a good mix of sweet, crunchy and salty. Gonna have to find a recipe to make it on my own. Service was exceptional at the bar & table.

The ambiance was nice, the food and service was great! The food was hot and fresh. The desserts were also delicious. We came here for our anniversary and we will return!

Had not been here in many years, we wanted to get hh and some snacks and this place did the trick! They had a great hh menu with several small plate options we got the shrimp boil, the ceviche the, fries, and a couple glasses of wine. If you're in the area I recommend you come by and try them out the seafood is fresh and fantastic. The servers also wonderful

As transplants from another state, and BBQ not being our first language, we wanted to try new things! They came to the table and we were all sort of perplexed. Were they supposed to look like...that? Either way, we dug in. They were cold in the middle, also a strange discovery to us. I ordered the burnt ends, which came to the table closer to cold than warm. The blue cheese potato salad was tasty and all it needed was a lil salt and pepper to make it perfect. All was going well, until my husband was about 4-5 bites into his brisket wrap. He asked me to smell it, and I did. It was funky! Smelled a lot like a foot and not a lot like a tortilla. He asked the server to smell it and they agreed it was a bit odd. The manager came over and denied it smelling like anything. My husband had finished his meal, and we weren't looking for a freebie but wanted to let them know it was a lil weird. Instead of acknowledging the potential issue, we were dismissed as "wrong." It just didn't sit right with me. My husband had some definite issues in the hour or two after eating, so we won't be back. I won't say it was food poisoning because genuinely it could have just not agreed with my husband. I'll put my disclaimer on here, I hope people do enjoy and continue to patronize this small business, it's just not to my liking.

We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday and were told there would be about a 10-minute wait, so we opted to grab seats at the bar and have dinner there instead. As the evening went on, we learned there are some trade-offs to dining at the bar. As the restaurant filled up, the bar area became increasingly busy and service naturally slowed. Small but noticeable details -- like water refills -- started getting overlooked. I was also surprised our server never checked in with my wife about her Chicken Pasta, especially since she barely touched it. We started with the Caesar Salad, which was excellent. The portion size was enormous -- easily large enough for two people to share -- with crisp romaine, generous dressing, and plenty of shaved Parmesan. I'm a longtime prime rib fan, so seeing it featured immediately caught my attention. The 13-ounce cut arrived perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The meat was exceptionally tender and flavorful, complemented nicely by a rich au jus and a creamy horseradish ("horsey") sauce that added just the right kick. My wife ordered the Chicken Pasta, which arrived as a very generous portion that could easily serve two. The dish featured grilled chicken over pasta in a spicy Asiago cream sauce. Unfortunately, the heat level was stronger than expected and ended up overpowering the dish for her, leaving most of it uneaten. One highlight of the evening was the Double Black Diamond Martini -- an infusion of fresh pineapple with New Amsterdam Pineapple Vodka. At $7.95 during Happy Hour (normally $13.95), it felt like one of the best values on the menu and was refreshing without being overly sweet. The restaurant was packed throughout our visit and clearly has a loyal following. After six years in this location, Firebirds seems to have built a strong customer base. With a bit more attentiveness to bar diners during peak hours, the experience could easily move from good to great.

"Premier" isn't marketing flair - it's accurate. This is, hands down, the best raw bar in Kansas City. We arrived for our 5:15 p.m. reservation in the main dining room and were warmly greeted by Allison, our server. She struck the perfect balance - friendly, engaging, and attentive throughout the meal. A great start to the evening. For two diners, we wanted to explore as much of the menu as possible. Before ordering food, we were told the signature Frozen Gin & Tonic was a must. It lived up to the reputation - bright, refreshing, and expertly balanced. The only thing that would have made it better was a slightly warmer dining room. We're big mussel fans, so we opened with the Bangs Island Mussels - and they set the bar high. A generous portion of plump mussels bathed in a white wine and roasted tomato broth that was deeply flavorful without being heavy. The toasted bread was perfect for soaking up every last bite. Simply outstanding. Next came the NOLA-Style Shrimp Gumbo. Served in a small bowl, but packed with richness and depth. Adding a touch of hot sauce brought just the right amount of heat and complexity. A standout dish. My wife - having happily overindulged in mussels and bread - opted for a lighter course: a single Maryland Crab Cake, available fried or broiled. It was almost all crab, clean and flavorful, with a satisfying crust. She couldn't finish it...so I did. When you go to a raw bar, oysters are non-negotiable. I ordered a half dozen featuring both East and West Coast varieties. Each one was pristine, briny, and fresh, and the horseradish had just the right bite. For my entrée, I chose the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp - four large prawns, each wrapped in crisp, smoky bacon. Simple, well-executed, and a strong finish to the savory courses. Dessert did not disappoint. My wife loved the Lemon Pistachio Chess Torte, while I devoured the Bourbon Apple Tart. She noted that the toasted meringue reminded her of marshmallows - a detail that made us smile. The dining room is intimate and can get noisy as it fills up. Next time, we'll likely try the patio for a different vibe. Pacing throughout the meal was spot-on, dishes came out promptly from the kitchen, and Allison's service tied everything together into a truly memorable evening. We'll definitely be back - and soon.

I stopped in with my girlfriend Lisa, who loves this place so much they basically have a little corner reserved for her. She likes to work from there because the Wi-Fi is good, the vibe is comfortable, and the food is consistently amazing. We sat at the bar, had a couple glasses of wine, and Austin took great care of us. Lisa had the steak special, which was the ribeye, and I had the salmon. Both were really, really great. The salmon was cooked beautifully and the whole meal was exactly why I keep coming back. One small callout: there was a $3 difference between what the salmon was listed for on the menu and what I was charged. I let Austin know so they could catch it for future guests. It did not change my overall experience, but I appreciated being able to mention it. Brandon, one of the co-owners, is amazing. He came out and spoke with us, and that personal touch is part of what makes Roots feel special. You can tell they care about the food, the service, and the people who come in. Their happy hour is amazing, and their seasonal menu changes are superb. I love coming in and trying different things. The salmon tacos are delicious, the birria fries are a must, and I always look forward to seeing what new crostini they are featuring since those change every few months. Roots is consistent without being boring. Great food, great service, great drinks, and a menu that keeps giving you a reason to come back. Can't wait to come back. See y'all next week.

The concept immediately caught my attention -- a menu that rotates quarterly, with roughly one-third new dishes, one-third returning favorites, and one-third permanent staples. Since we were in Lee's Summit this evening, the three of us decided it was a good opportunity to try Roots for the first time. Our meal came to $178 before tip, and unfortunately our experience didn't quite match the expectations set by the press coverage and the many five-star reviews on Yelp. We started with two appetizers our server described as menu favorites: the Dirty Martini Mussels and the Chimichurri Potato Skins. Service was friendly, but timing was slower than expected -- it took nearly 25 minutes for the appetizers to arrive, and the dining room was only about a quarter full around 5:30 p.m. The mussels were an interesting interpretation. The broth leaned heavily toward olive flavors and carried a noticeable level of spice, which was quite different from the more delicate white wine and butter profile we typically associate with this dish. The grilled focaccia served alongside, however, was excellent and perfect for soaking up the broth. The chimichurri potato skins were generously topped with roasted chicken and cheddar cheese, though we were surprised to receive four skins for the $17 price point. They appeared baked rather than deep fried, giving them a softer texture than we expected. Entrées delivered mixed results. My daughter ordered the Monday fried chicken special -- a half bird offered at a $10 discount -- and it was a highlight of the evening. She noted the chicken arrived piping hot, with a distinct pickle-brine flavor and a nicely crisp crust. My wife's experience was less successful. Her $39, 8-ounce flat iron steak, ordered medium rare, arrived closer to rare. Since the steak was already sliced, we were surprised this wasn't caught before being served. She also mentioned the risotto carried a chimichurri flavor that felt unexpected alongside the steak. I ordered the 10-ounce grilled pork chop. While the portion size was generous, the dry rub and candied chili relish overpowered the natural flavor of the pork. That said, the sweet potato fries served with the dish were exceptional and one of the standouts of the meal. Roots clearly has an interesting culinary vision and loyal following, and I genuinely wish the restaurant continued success. Based on this visit, however, the experience wasn't quite strong enough for us to plan a return.
