I ordered a fish sandwich and it was served hot with large pieces of fish, larger than I remembered. It tasty great and the service was quick and friendly. The food is great, I love fish and chips and have tried all of the places in town. The quality is almost on par with Culver's. (I think my fish was slightly freezer burned but it was still good). The service is fast and the ambiance is alright. The building and chairs are dated. The prices are about the same as Culver's so it's a hard comparison because I feel Culver's fish and chips is a little higher in quality as well as the tables chairs and building and with the cost about equal I'd probably lean towards Culver's but again this is a biased review because I only go to Captain Ds for their fish and chips. I still give it 5 stars because it's much closer to my house I just think it's a little overpriced for what you get. read more

Guess what's being served now through February? Oyster, can you believe, delicious fried oysters at Captain D's. Price is right too, six yummy oysters for only $3.99. That's what I got the first time. Loved them so much the next time I took the twelve yummy oysters. Couldn't eat them all, boy they are filling. I visited this location for a 2pm lunch on a Wednesday. The place is clean and well-decorated. I was greeted promptly by the cashier, and ordered a 2-piece fish, fries, hushpuppies and drink combo for $8.99. The food was served quickly about 3-5 min, and was very hot and fresh. This place gave me that satisfaction that I used to feel as a kid eating out, which I see rarely these days. This place has gotten quite a bit pricier lately, like everyplace else. Their fish filets seem to have turned into deep fried, extra large fish sticks. So I have been disappointed several times with the quantity of their offerings. But never with the quality. But I wanted to give a shout-out about two of their star attractions: their LOBSTER ROLLS, and their FRIED OYSTERS. Their Lobster rolls have the lobster (or langostino) mixed into a sort of cold seafood salad, and dolloped onto a warm, split semi-crunchy breadstick that's just been pulled from the oven. Then it's all wrapped in wax paper and served up immediately. The pairing of the warm breadstick and the cool lobster salad is nothing short of delectable. When Captain D's first test-marketed them, these beauties were sold two per order, and I came back once a day to revel in their goodness. Then they went away, and I mourned their loss. But now they're back, and have been offered for several months! It's a miracle! And they cost around $5.99 each. Not dirt cheap, but much better than traveling to New England to get them. Another All Star at Captain D's is their FRIED OYSTERS. If you're a shellfish lover like I am, having easy access to fried oysters is like having a DQ open up next door. Fried oysters are usually impossible to find unless you go to a really expensive seafood restaurant and order a $50-$70 meal. Every now and again someplace reasonable will sell them. But not often. Having easy access to them AND lobster rolls is the Holy Grail for seafood lovers here in the landlocked Midwest. The big CD sells the little fried gems at six for $3.99. That's pretty darn reasonable. And they come to you in a little box, hot and crispy, ready to dip in the tartar sauce and gallop down your gullet. Mmmmmm-mmmmmm. I have been known to get only the lobster rolls, the fried oysters, and some shrimp for dinner here at the drive through. They're always polite, and offer you whatever sauces you need. Also, on Wednesdays they offer special reduced prices for Seniors, and on Thursdays special prices for military families. It's not bad inside, either, with lots of seating, a drink/sauces station, and music over the speakers. Sadly though, more often than not it's country music, which is why I usually don't go inside. Anyway, it's a pretty good place. Their fish and sides are always good. And as to those who looked at the pictures of the "worm" in the fish, give me a break. It's not a worm. It's most likely a vein or a capillary. Fish have them too, y'know. I'll be back! read more

We finally decided to experience the joys of fish and chips especially when they were advertising all that shrimp! I love shrimp and go to all you can eat buffets just to pile it on. However, "pile it on" is not a phrase I would use at Captain D's. If anyone was hard pressed to find the smallest shrimp on the planet, it wasn't this place, they may have even cornered the market on it. This one is become a regular stop for me about once a month. I enjoyed going to Capt. D's because I can get good seafood that's prepared well for reasonable price and have a choice of vegetables. Granted the green beans usually come out of the can but that's better than french fries any day of the week. This location is excellent. I've been going there for years. Usually through the drive-through. The employees are so friendly. The food is always hot. Fresh quality. For a fast food fish place. You can't get it anywhere else. It's one of the few around, so try it while you can. My go to is battered fish and chicken with fries and corn on the cob. My dogs get the chicken strips. Definitely good when you want something different. read more

The last time we ate here the food was terrible. That is the fish and butterfly shrimp. We ordered it as take out and got home to find out the fish was about half the width and covered with a thick breading that was terrible. Then the jumbo butterfly shrimp was smaller and coated too with a thick sickening breading. We called and they said that we could come back and they would give us complete dinners free. We didn't want to go get more of the same sickening food. Why did you change venders? Would rather pay more for the good fish and jumbo shrimp that you were serving than this horrible stuff you served us. Service was friendly; food was cooked to order and hot. Only downside was the coleslaw was very warm--as if they had scooped it out first and set the plate under the warming rack. Restaurant was clean enough...fries are straight cut without the skins, kind of like Long John Silvers used to do before they went healthy. Worth a try if fast food seafood is your thing. read more

9/25/2018 - I go to this restaurant in Independence fairly often, because the food is usually good. Last night was a trip, though! The restaurant had no forks. No forks - how does that even happen in a restaurant. Then as several of us sat down and waited for our food, 15 minutes went by, 20 minutes went by..... Two couples who arrived before me, finally went to the counter and asked when their food would be ready. A man working in the back (kitchen), looked out through an opening (where he hands out the food to the cashier, to give to customers), and said: "I guess you all don't respect that I'm the only one working back here. I can't do all these orders in just a minute or two." So those two couples asked their cashier for their money back, and they left the restaurant. One other couple had come in right after me, and they looked at me and said, "Maybe we'd better get our money back too?" So we all went to the counter, and the couple asked for their money back, and got it. But then, the food for the people who had left was ready and the kitchen worker handed it out to the cashier, who didn't know what to do with it. The couple in front of me said, "Well, how about if we just eat that, and you can cancel what we ordered?" So then they had to go through the process of paying for this food, since they had already got their money back for the food they originally ordered. Then when they went to sit down and eat, I just asked if my salmon dinner was still being made, because I was wanting to wait for it, if he was still going to make it. So the cashier asked him if my salmon dinner was still being made. The kitchen guy got angry and said something like "No one appreciates what I'm doing back here. Yes, I'm still working on the salmon dinner!" So I waited probably another 10 minutes, and then got my dinner. The food was delicious. I feel like I got "dinner and a floor show!" I think this place just needs new management and new employees. Hire people who care about their job and want to serve the customers, and please hire 2 people to work in the kitchen. Pitiful place. Everytime we came here when we ordered inside it was like taking hostages to get tartar sauce and vinegar. Plus I'm picky about changing grease and every time we've ordered this year you could tell how dark it is and that means dirty grease. Will spend eight bucks just for a platter and still be hungry. 1321 S Noland Rd, Independence MO. Yesterday came in, we usually come once a week, the place was hot and humid - there was no air conditioning! Close to 100 outside, and inside not much different. Ordered Clams on a platter, with fries and Cole Slaw, like I have every week for the past year. Informed they did not serve clams platter and rang up each item separately (Fewer clams that way). When I was served they forgot the fries, did not give us utensils to eat with...the malt vinegar was warm, the Cole Slaw was warm and mushy and not like usual. No hush puppies. My husband ordered the seafood ultimate... the fish was smaller than usual, the shrimp not like in the picture, and they charged extra for the side. We won't be back! read more

This place is terrible about checking orders. It's just like they will throw in whatever the want. If a meal comes with 12 pieces of shrimp you kind of expect to get 12 pieces. Even in the fish shrimp combo platter their count was off. I called the first time and told them about it and they said nothing, not even sorry. The second time we were short a salad and 2 pieces of shrimp so I called them and got a recording. I have called numerous times and keep getting the same recording. I leave a message and nobody has ever called me back. Like the food but not going to be shorted and upset every time we go through the drive through. Guess we will have to sit there and count shrimp and make sure every thing is in the sack before we move. Ridiculous!! read more
