Used to be called 54th Street Grill is now Five Four. I see a lot has changed, they have definitely upgraded and turned into nice sports bar with so much seating. I remember they used to have the best Baked Potato Soup and yes that still stands true, sooo rich and creamy and comforting. I also ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings and Red Sangria. Everything tasted great! Our service was great. My friend is a regular there and a few servers came over to talk. This place will be a definite go to next time I'm in town. read more

I've been to Five Four, as it's called now, a few times, and it's pretty consistenly great--but with some caveats. The food is very tasty, I'm never disappointed with the flavors. But when I'm trying to eat healthy, they fall short. Basically, when I'm ordering healthier-sounding options, like the brussels sprouts, they are super greasy... so it's kinda disappointing when you're trying to eat healthy and the food comes unnecessarily unhealth-ified., if that's a word. Brussel Sprouts don't need all that grease to be great! As far as prices, they do run on the high side, but they have a great, more affordable lunch menu which we always order from. The interior has been remodeled somewhat recently, I think. It seems more modern and nice. One thing to note - it does get pretty crowded around lunchtime, which is a good sign - people really like it here. But if you don't like crowds/noise, come early! The service here has always been good, and this time was no different. Our waiter was attentive and polite. Got carry out here tonight. Order was correct was but was just ok. The salmon was overcooked and the Brussels sprouts were bitter and not tender. My chicken was pretty good but fairly chewy. My biscuit was very chewy and I did not enjoy the potatoes. Salads were both good. Portions pretty good. And price. read more

Arrived in town fairly late and looking for a quick, easy dinner. This restaurant was next door to our hotel so we tried. So glad we did! Fairly large sport bar but with what we discovered great food. Server, Matt, very friendly and knowledgable. I actually order the filet, and it was prepared perfectly with good flavor. Good atmosphere and the food was very tasty. It's probably a corp policy but when i order a premium draft I don't expect 2 inches of foam. A 22oz draft shouldn't come out to be 16oz in a 22oz glass. Draft pours is my biggest complaint. Your reply confirms you trying to skimp on the pours. Any head on a 22oz glass, wide at the top is purposely giving me a 16oz pour. I watched as so much foam was poured down the drain to boot. Worked in food&bev over 10yrs, I tip great on good pours and below min on bad pours like your establishment does. Too bad you try to make up on the alcohol sales when its so easy to just do a good draught pour. Why I've never been back to your place and won't be. read more

What a wonderful meal and overall experience! We went on a packed Friday night after joining the wait list for 1 hour. The service was great--our server was very personable and nice although clearly quite busy! The food was great too. Although this wasn't my favorite chicken fried steak (could use more seasoning on this and the gravy), I was glad I could chose both side and absolutely loved the brussel sprouts which came with goat cheese and craisins! This was the highlight of my meal. The Mac and cheese side had a great deal of crunch which I love, but could have used more cheese sauce in my opinion. The cheddar biscuit was alright, nothing special. Overall for $17 this was a huge and very good meal! The energy here was great--I would definitely come back! read more

Today, my mom and I stopped in for the first time to have lunch. The restaurant is newer and is very clean and more modern with comfortable seating. Upon entering, we were greeted by a hostess, but she walked off and said somebody else would help us. Then finally some other hostess came up and let us to a table/booth. Our server came over quickly and we both ordered their lunch special. My mother had the Smashburger special and I had the regular burger special and we both ordered gluten-free buns. We both appreciate that they have a gluten-free menu that you can view with your phone. The food was good and it came out pretty quickly. I think the waitress could've stopped by more after the food had come by and asked if we needed anything. They have an extensive menu and we will return. read more

Finally went to check out the new Five Four location in Independence. Wow! It's so nice! Huge, open, bright, lively, lots of TVs, smiling faces. We haven't been to a 54 in over a year and decided to try the Gyro and Prime Rib Dip again. SO good. The prime rib was cooked medium rare just how we love it, and I ate the entire Gyro (not like me to finish!). We had Ashley and Nina at the bar and they were very attentive, friendly, and made a great Bloody Mary! Burger is bland with very light Gaelic aole sauce...just like it was before the bland "rebrand". No antiques, just flat photos on the walls and some weird fan with blue LEDs. Tvs ONLY at the bar. Oh, and if you order sides of sauces, you don't know the total of the sauce on the side until you get the bill because that's not specifically stated on the menu. The boneless chicken wings are still terrible like they were when they first changed them. I'm not missing out on anything, I even now, don't care to return here. Oh . First time visiting this location since the remodel. New open concept and decor is great. There was no waiting and we were seated right away. We both ordered salads-Chicken Club salad with blackened chicken and California Bleu Chicken salad. Our orders arrived after a wait and this is why I provided the less than perfect rating. I mentioned to the person that delivered our food that I had ordered blackened chicken not fried. He offered to take it back but I declined. The Chicken Club salad was missing most of the ingredients. No tomato, no cheese, no avocado, no cucumber and the chicken was fried, not blackened. The California Bleu had no blue cheese and no tortilla strips. We didn't notice the missing ingredient at first because we had waited a bit for the salads and were hungry. Our waiter was nowhere to be found until he came to deliver our check. Not sure if this will stop us from going back; I think everyone deserves a second chance. read more

Not anything like the pub and restaurant look and feel with local artifacts on the walls and ceilings, but more of an upscale and trendy place with lots of windows, high ceilings, and a big bar and lots of TV's, for the big game. If I could give no star, I would. Unfortunately the manager David at this location acted very childish, disrespectful, and unapologetic. My friend tried to have a get together here for 10-15 people and called 1 month in advance and was told it would be no problem. Then a day before the get together called again and was told again no problem. We arrived the day of early to make sure the night would go smoothly and unfortunately it did not. We were told to wait 30 min after arriving early and told about the reservation and after the 30 min asked to speak with a manager about the confusion and miscommunication. We were met with David being very rude and unapologetic. He had no interest with helping the situation or explaining why the previous phone conversations went as they did. After a lot of arguing he finally pushed two tables together and then rudely and childlike stood by the table and with a sly smile on his face with no apology. We wanted to move forward with our night and he still stood at the table just to infuriate us. Because of this experience we left and he came right up to the table and again stood in a childlike behavior waving and smiling to egg us on. I really hope this is not a reflection on who you are and who you hire but I will not return neither will the rest of the people in the party. Never have I been treated this way. read more

It's been a long time since we've had service this good at any place, let alone a bar/grill type place. All of the waitstaff worked together, the manager was actually walking around and our waiter had several great recommendations that made our night go perfect. We ate here as a family, but they have a great atmosphere for groups, a date or family night out. Tons of tvs in the bar, but none in the dining area - perfect! We had a mix of burgers, Mexican and appetizers. Everything was delicious. My wife had a "painkiller" mixed drink, and it tasted just like the Caribbean. They're Not All The Same Like all other 54th Street Grill & Bar restaurants this one has an indoor dining room, an outdoor patio, and a bar. The parking lot has ample parking, and a foyer to keep the inside inside and the outside outside. 54th Street Grill & Bar is a chain, so you would expect total "cookie cutter" all the way. The first thing I noticed coming through the door was that the bar area was separated from the dining room by large plate glass windows. I like that because it helps keep family groups with small energetic children from having to mingle with adults tipping a toddy. Not all locations are like that. The patio area has a commanding view of the parking lot, and does allow smoking. Weathering the COVID-19 era has brought out the best in this place. They have been able to maintain a quality staff that will make all the difference as the world wakes up. Our server was very professional, personable, and knowledgeable. She was also training a new hire - the right person for the right job! Their menu is pretty large so that just about anyone will find something that suits their taste. My favorite is the TRIPLE STACKED CLUB: sliced turkey, "thick cut" smoked bacon, sharp cheddar, swiss, honey mustard, smashed avocado, on toasted wheat, and one standard side, That comes in at $12. 50 and leaves you 1480 Calories heavier. Works for me. Their location is across 39th Street from Independence Mall and the area is highly populated with restaurants of every stripe. So with dwindling dine in customers and increased curbside, delivery and take out, the whole staff has had to step up their game - and they have. Everything inside was clean with a fresh feel, and well maintained. That is what I call making the best of a lock down. I really could not find anything to complain about - they are winning! While this one is a bit farther away than another one, it is now farther up on our go-to list. They are all pretty good, but I like this one better. COVID-19 Considerations: Social Distancing is enforced, Masks are required when not seated, Tables are sanitized after each customer, and Hand Sanitizer is available on every table. The prices here aren't too bad and they have a huge variety on their menu. They do have a happy hour and a reverse happy hour that offer better deals on the food and drink, though.
