I've been going here for years, since they had the previous tiny location. Love everything about this place. First off, their Vietnamese iced coffee is great. It's always consistently good. Try it if you love a real rich coffee, it's strong! The food is also great, the menu is varied and unique. I've tried a bit of everything, the breakfast and lunch options are always tasty and fresh, and their baked goods are indulgent. Every time I've been to either location the staff is very warm, welcoming, and friendly. Although I loved the unique charm of their tiny old location, their new location is spacious, clean, and inviting. If you want to check off all the boxes I recommend a Vietnamese iced coffee, a breakfast banh mi (super unique), and grab a dessert from their baked goods selection . Lu's Cafe is one of my favorite local spots! The food is delicious, the service is always friendly, and the coffee is excellent. If you go, definitely try the Vietnamese coffee one of my favorites. The only downside is that I think the prices are a little on the high side, but the quality and overall experience make it worth the visit. I finally got to try Lu's new location on Essex St. street parking was plentiful. I was so excited to have the Vietnamese iced coffee again and croissant sandwich again. I came with my family so we each were able to try what we wanted. My kids loved the tater tots and orange juice. They gave us each a free cookie! The inside seating is amazing. The staff were all so friendly. They even have a cozy kids corner with games and toys. My kids loved this! Highly recommend trying them out. I finally got to try Lu's at their new location and found the same delicious food in a spacious new location with lots of seating. I got the Banh Mi and Lettuce Cups and would get both again (it was at least my second time on the lettuce cups). I have pretty much stuck to the Vietnamese part of the menu so far and also loved the vermicelli bowls. The coffee was excellent, but since Vietnamese coffee is a bit sweet for us we tend to take one home and mix it with our own coffee for a toned down version. I'm sure this is a sacrilege to die hard fans, but we enjoy it that way, getting a bit of the sweet treat but not quite so sweet as the default. We also loved splitting the complementary chocolate chip cookie that you sometimes get here. I very much want to try some of the baked goods which are one of the big specialties. The new space itself is very modern with quite a few tables as well as a cozy corner. They have a counter ordering system which can accommodate multiple lines when busy. The location is right on the busy part of Essex so parking is the only bit of a pain. There is something on the website about validating parking but for the 45 cents or whatever I paid the meter to pick up my food I couldn't be bothered to figure that out. read more

My first time visiting Lu's was great! Parking was hard to come by on a main road, but I parked on a side street and it was cheap. Once I got to Lu's, I tried the Vietnamese coffee and a guava and cheese muffin -- to die for! I had brought my laptop and got work done for a few hours. It was constantly busy on a Friday, but never overwhelming. Everyone who came in easily found seats. After a while, I got a banh mi for lunch -- and YUM!!! So good. What a great local cafe! I've only had the ice tea from here, but definitely going to try all the different goodies. I have been staking this place for months! GLad that they are open and got to give it a try. A hole in the wall, parking is available in the lot in front. COVID ordering only you call in and they bring out your order. I didnt have to call in as a staff was out when I arrived and took my order. I came for the bahn mi. Glad I did as this was the real deal! Perfect sandwich , generously filled. I also had egg rolls (pork filled) which were hot and fresh. A also got a free chocolate chip cookie to boot! The carrot cake was very carrot-y (maybe smaller shreds of carrot would be better). Cream frosting is really sweet and rich as well. I ended up scraping most of it off. The cake itself was really moist and fresh, tasted homemade. Large portions. I also tried their breakfast sandwich (egg, chicken sausage on english muffin) and that was pretty good. Overall a great little spot that's very straight forward, friendly people. If you are into very rich and sweet desserts then this might be a great choice for you. After ordering waited about 5 mins for the food to come out. Coffee was piping hot, delicious, and the highlight of the visit. Would come back for the coffee definitely!! Prices are fair. read more

Came here for an early lunch. Only pick up at the moment, but great service. I love how they leave a little note for you on your order. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee, pernil breakfast melt and steak banh mi with jalapeños. The Vietnamese coffee was excellent! Often people make it too sweet- but I felt like they figured out the right ratio of condense milk to coffee; just remember to mix the condense milk because it does layer on the bottom of the drink. I wouldn't recommend the Pernil breakfast melt- I love how it's on a buttery croissant, but I wished they gave a little more meat! The banh mi was excellent- I've never had the steak chopped up it's usually in thick long pieces and you gotta tear the meat with your front teeth which can ruin the experience sometimes because the baguette is already crispy and you can make a mess trying to tear the meat: ps you gotta get it with the jalapeños for the extra kick! read more

One of the most flavorful and satisfying bahn mi's I've ever had! I got the beef bahn mi and from the delicious marinaded steak to the refreshing veggies it was just fantastic. The woman at the window was very nice and helpful in explaining what a Vietnamese coffee is which I also got and was a lovely treat for the hot day we're having! I am in town for jury duty and this is just a few minutes walk from the superior court house (you get an hour break for lunch) so it was convenient and fast as well! read more

I stumbled across this place and all I can say is wow. I got a Vietnamese Iced mocha coffee, and a Pernil Breakfast Melt sandwich. So good! It's like pulled pork and egg, cheese, and tomato on a toasted croissant. Plus I got a free warm cookie. Is there any better way to start the day? The staff were polite and efficient. They are conveniently located in the parking lot across from the courthouse and they validate parking, though I was able to grab a spot on the street. I don't think they have an inside sit down area, but they did have a couple picnic tables out front. Based on this experience, I can't wait to come back again and try something from their lunch menu. Saw this gem on a Facebook group I saw online. I heard they sold Bahn Mi's and I was intrigued. I usually go to Lowell to get my fix so when I heard some place local opened up I was excited. I called around 2pm on a Tuesday before they closed. Got myself 2 steak Bahn mi's and 2 iced coffees ( one for me & one for my sister) I also had one of the sandwiches with jalapeños. The lady I spoke to on the phone was efficient and pleasant! THIS PLACE IS A GEM!! Lawtown needed Lu's Cafe we ordered 3 Banh Mi, 1 chicken, steak, veggie. The Banh Mi sandwiches were on point, the dressing was authentic, the fixings were fresh, the meat was freshly cooked and flavorful. Parking is easy, plentiful, and free! Grab a ticket and park in the huge lot, Lu's validates!! We're going back to try their other menu items this week. My only caveat is less of a complaint and more of an acknowledgment that you're trying to cater to your community. If you're expecting a traditional Banh Mi with thinly sliced pork tenderloin, the option isn't available. With that said, the beef was flavorful, tender, and fresh as was the chicken.
