I needed a birthday cake and Yelp brought me here! Glad it did cuiz this place is a gem. The friendly baker said no cakes on display but you need to order them in advance. She said that she can put something together for me in about 15 minutes. I choose a white cake with raspberry filling with chocolate frosting! It was all set in 10 minutes all decoated and boxed with string! What amazing service and the cake was moist and delish! As it was my 1st time there she even gave me a coconut macaroon as a gift! My mother grew up not far from Fisichelli's, and when I was a child, her parents still lived near the bakery. My grandparents would come to visit us, and they would bring the most wonderful cannoli, toto, and macaroons. On our birthdays, they would bring Sicilian wedding cakes - and these spoiled my sister and me so that we had no use for regular birthday cake. Decades later, Fisicheli's is still family owned, and still making the same great stuff. My grandparents are long since passed; my parents live in Florida. But on some birthdays and holidays, I call Fisicheli's and have a box of goodness shipped to my mother - and those boxes don't last long. read more

During a recent visit to this outstanding bakery, I had stopped in to get some cookies for my 87-year old grandmother. As an entertaining coincidence, I was waited on by another 87-year old grandmother. We had a lovely conversation about bakery products, homemade always being best, their competition around the corner, Tripoli's bakery, and how being 87 still alows her to be happy and productive. Fisichelli's, a locally ownded and operated bakery is small and wonderfully adept at producting outstanding cookies, cakes, and pies. Thankfully, I don't live near by or I'd surely be 300 pounds. The adorable older woman told me how 99 percent of their cookies are still produced in-house. She explained that most of Tripoli's cookies are brought in and are not made by hand but instead are machine-made. While I can't vouch for the accuracy of that statement, I can vouch for the high quality of Fisichelli's cookies. Further, each and every time I wander in to this bakery, I am greeted with a smile and absolutely fantastic service. The service at the aforementioned Tripoli's Bakery is spotty at best. I have heard that Fisichelli's is opening another location in Andover. As I work in Andover...this presents for me a serious problem: larger pants. read more

Their raspberry rugelach croissant-shaped cookies could make you switch gods!! The lobster tails are literally the best you can get and you're treated like family whether you call or show up. Seriously...forget Tripoli (Matt's girls really need customer service training) and Piro's needs to work on their horrible products just as much as the horrible little kids working there. I get my kids' birthday cakes here every year, random cupcake urges are only appeased here (amazing!) and the cookies make you not care how much longer you gotta work out to work them off. The reviewer with the supposed dry cake that they tossed either caused that themselves or is just unfairly taking out their frustrations. The woman who gave them ONE star because the prices slightly increased...where do you live, honey? The cost of living doesn't go in reverse and no business can keep their prices from the 1970s. I grew up in Lawrence. I went to the Leonard School for 3 years of middle school in the 90s, which is literally on the street behind Fisichelli's. I still have family in Lawrence and still visit often. I USED TO LIVE ON UNION STREET, about 4 blocks away - for years of my childhood. And I had never once entered Fisichelli's. Until last Saturday. When I was big on sweets as a teenager, this was a place I loved to go to. Cannolis...EXCELLENT. Almond Macaroons with the cherry in the center...EXCELLENT. Pink/Yellow buttery cookies with the cherry in the center...EXCELLENT All 3 of these were my favorites at this place. I even recall dreaming about making a stop here and eating these a while back, but it was only a dream. But when I used to eat these when I was younger, they were awesome! Visit a couple of times and year and always for the Holidays and have never given a review.... their cookies are the BEST!!!! also you get more per pound than competitor..(competitors are heavier).. they are fresh and taste so so so good.. we get a rum cake about twice a year... love serving the cake and hearing the comments from our guests.... This place has legit Italian deserts and pastries. I've been to both of there competitors. I have to say the customer service here is far better then both. As for the deserts themselves the huge lobster tail and the macaron brownies are worth the drive. The cake I got was a huge hit with ppl thinking they died and went to heaven. This bakery is the real deal for authentic Italian baked goods. I just discovered them and being raised in a family of Italian immigrants, I am thrilled. Treats like my mom and grandmothers made. I sampled the Zeppole and I have not had a pastry dough that perfect since I was a child in CT. The fillings were also Delicious. The cheese one was the same they use in their cannolis. So light and flavorful. I tried some cookies and wow. Perfect mix of crunch and soft. Fresh and yummy. The pistachio macaroon was the best I have ever eaten! Best news on those is that they ship them anywhere. I will send them to my mom in Florida. I also tried their unique soft biscotti. Perfect coffee dunking treat. Street parking is plentiful. I went early on a Saturday before the crowds. I had time to chat with the staff and the owner came in. A proud and friendly group of people. That is obviously what makes this family business continue strong after over 100 years! I must go back for the pastaciotttis (pie shaped dough filled with Italian cream. Angie, the bakery matriarch, celebrating her 92nd birthday on 10/2, Happy Birthday Angie!, is a joy and sweeter than any of their pastries. Only lovely Nina knew the right words to inscribe on a sheet cake commemorating the tragic loss of a young son. The aggrieved grandmother, son, and grandchildren stood in admiration around her magnificent creation, took photos, and then devoured rapaciously the scrumptious delight. This appreciative matriarch wrote in her thank you note, "And how about the cake! There will never be another one like it. Tell the woman at the bakery that everyone was awestruck and full of praise." And I didn't even mention the two complimentary boxes of delectable cookies that always magnanimous Nina included. Best ricotta pie I have ever had. Hands down. No question. You know how some ricotta pies have an almost grainy texture? This one is incredibly creamy, really smooth. And theirs has a hint of lemon, which just makes the taste so unbelievably delicious. Cannolis are also hand filled and just outstanding, as are their selection of Italian cookies. They have these almond filled cookies that are just heavenly - so moist, not too sweet, perfect almond flavor. So clearly their baked goods are amazing. But I also love Fisichelli's because of the people who work here. There is this woman there who is like the quintessential Italian Nana. I just wanted to hug her. Everyone else is also super nice and you can tell it's a family operation and that everyone really cares about the place and their product. This place was recomended by a co-worker. Ordered a rum cake for my birthday and made sure instructions were given..NO FRUIT and NO NUTS (dietary restrictions). Cake looked amazing when it was picked up, but looks can be deceiving! The cake was cut for dessert...lo and behold...STRAWBERRIES...no birthday cake for me. I can't attest to the taste as I wasn't able to eat it but I will say there was very little actual cake. it was all just filling and small cut pieces of cake layered around the filling...not actual layers like most cakes. I called and asked to speak with a manager after the fruit mix up. The owner got on the phone and said, "We don't put fruit or nuts in unless requested and your cake had a $2 upcharge for the fruit. If you want I will make you a new cake for tomorrow. Tomorrow is not my birthday. Wow..they make a mix up, I pay extra for it AND get attitude...1st and last time I will be visiting this place. read more

While not a frequent customer our family has stopped by this family run bakery numerous times and have always been greeted by a lovely elderly lady and at times the female owner. This most recent visit I was NOT greeted at all by a man behind the counter who was extremely unfriendly. I asked for a large cream puff and ricotta filled cannoli. He informed me that "oh, we haven't had large cream puffs for years and you obviously must not be a regular". I was taken aback by his rudeness and assumption. I would have tuned around and said no thank you but my father has always looked forward to dessert from Fischelli's. I ordered just the cannoli and picked up a package of pizzellis. While waiting my mother came in behind me and the man was rude to her as well. Needless to say we paid (and my God it was pricey and it's not the North End!!) and we both voiced to each other that we will NEVER return to this pastry shop again. The real disappointment was when my father found the cannoli filled with untraditional and tasteless custard, not ricotta. Such a shame that their products have changed and are no longer worth the price. I can see why the Andover shop closed. I feel bad for the two women who used to greet us. I know how hard they work but this is a place we have crossed off our list NEVER to return again. read more
