This is my newest favorite bakery on the Seacoast! My husband wanted a latte and pastry on the drive up RT-95 and Annarosa's popped up on Yelp. What a surprise treat for the senses! There were a bountiful variety of vennoiserie from a simple croissant to fruit and custard filled puff pastries. And last but not the least, the breads!!! There are baguettes, olive breads, pain de compagne, and more! The closest comparison of this bakery would be Clear Flour Bakery in Brookline but only bigger. The owners are welcoming and take interest in their customers. There is no seating inside the bakery ample outdoor seating in the warmer weather. Stopped buying from Anna Rosas because the sourdough walnut loaves where constantly burned on top, not just dark but burned you can taste the bitterness of the burned part. Also, when I asked for a lesser dark loaf the older women that works there got all huffy and puffy and was not happy that I asked for a different less "burned" loaf, she almost threw the one she tried to sell me back on the shelf and had a very bad attitude making me feel very uncomfortable. I used to spend between $20 to $30 dollars a week buying bread, but not anymore. Very dissapointed!!! read more

Overrated. Overpriced. It gets rave reviews because, frankly, it's the only game in town. There are no other bakeries (not to be compared to cake/pastry shops) in the area. It's good, but to pay $6.50 for one single size brioche or $5 for a croissant is a bit much. It's fine. I'm sure the quality is as they say. But if this were Europe, it wouldn't hold a candle. Quality bakery in the form of a boulangerie as opposed to a blue frosting bakery. Pastries are a delight, inventive and sublimely tasty. Location is in a depressing & sad strip mall next to a tanning salon. I am sad for them ... but they do draw a larger pool of folks ... as even in the poor weather ... people were flocking in. The service was .. to the point ... with an air of snootiness that could not be merely ignored because ... though I was giving profuse compliments about the display ... the owner was perceiving me as a hick who didn't know what a Kouign-amann was. Lol They have something else quite good & unique for the area ... Bouchons au Chocolate. By far the best upscale brownie you will ever eat. I'd go there just for those & I'm not a huge chocolate fan ... but these were outstanding. Another trip through the area means another stop at the best bread bakery around. I was too late to catch a warm pizza but I still love them cold. Their little crusty pizzas with crunchy burnt cheesey edges are my favorite pizzas. I was also lucky they still had a Kalamata Olive Rustica bread left. Toasted gluten and burnt sugar will do that to anyone, right? And then there are bakeries that make your 92-yr-old great-great-gamgam mutter "Are you f***ing kidding me?" followed by a slack-jawed loss of her dentures. Annarosa's is the latter. Butter and crusts and fruits and such in a torrid array of baked wonders, reasonably priced if a bit up-kicked for quality and not nearly as much as you'll pay for dry cleaning. I'm talking to you, napkin-less lapel. And you, jam-slicked shirt sleeve from ravenous facial passes. And you, naughty zone, because this food will make you pee a little. The gratis - a savory prosciutto and seasoned creme fraîche pocket of pillowy brioche turnover; the bouchon - a black hole of chocolate that'd seduce any glass of red to join it in your mouth; the Jamaican rum cloud - ya know what? It's rum and pastry and love. Just trust in the name and eat it. Hell, even the plain croissant was anything but. Annarosa's is by far and away the best bakery food around. I noticed some reviewers speaking about the mood in here that can be a bit curt and tense. I have definitely seen that here. One time many years back, the maybe? Owner? was very rude to me and it was my birthday which made it seem especially annoying. I told her at the time too. I since have been back times since. Why? They make the best food around. . We have no competition for the quality that they bring. Being a foodie , I guess I justify that some folks can't do it all. Extremely talented artisan bread and pastry makers can't all be personality people too. I am gluten sensitive so I appreciate the slow made bread and love the pastry For a special treat for my in-laws or myself. It is definitely a trade off. All I can say is that Picasso maybe never got called an asshole and maybe he was. But he was also a revolutionary artist. Unbelievably rude employee. I've only ever been in once before because of the odd hours. I walk in, there's 2 people ahead of me and then a woman off to the side. I don't quite know what she's doing but I'm clearly 3rd or 4th in line. I walk over to the glass case which is very small and right across from where I would be standing to wait in line. I have not walked in front of the other patrons. The employee yells excuse me and I'm thinking he's calling someone to tell them their order is ready. Again "excuse me", I look over and he's looking at me. I say hello he says this person and that person are in front of you. Now again, I haven't stepped pass anyone to look in the case. I say "I'm just looking". He says "but if you pick out what you want and 1 of these people pick the same thing I can't hold it for you". Who in the heck wouldn't know this, does this really need to be said?! I was dumbfounded, I stepped back into line and said under my breath "actually I don't want anything" and left. We have enjoyed Annarosa's breads, pasties, and treats since they were at the Tannery -- maybe 15+ years. Their bread is consistently FABULOUS -- I really cannot say enough about the crunchy crust and moist/chewy interior of their levain nor the delicious nuttiness of the semolina and don't even get me started on the pastries. I read the comments about rude employees and am flummoxed -- we are the slowest customers on the planet, thinking do we want this or that loaf or both?, cookies and bread?, a cannoli and the panettone-like brioche?, what about bread crumbs and pizza dough? We leave with bags full of fragrant, delicious breads. No one has EVER rushed us or treated us rudely -- we have found everyone to be kind, knowledgeable, and patient. Annarosa's was better. Yeah, I know, I'm giving them 5 stars. Wanna know when they were better? Yeah, when they were closed & I didn't know how frickin' amazing their bread was. That's when they were better! (OK so I'm talking about better for my waistline but don't quibble) I'd drive by and see them there, all closed up after business hours. I'd think how much better that was since I cannot deny the siren call of bread. Sometimes at night I can hear the call, just trying to entice me. But I cannot buy the bread if they are not open. Then, God save me, one day they weren't closed. Nope, they were open. Doors wide open, Open sign shining bright. I practically squealed the tires pulling into the lot. I walked in and almost immediately went into a fugue state*. But I know I bought bread. When I came to, I had half a brioche roll hanging out of my mouth as I drove down the road. The box of cookies and sweet rolls on the passenger seat also couldn't be denied. I had done it. Gone over to the dark side and ate the bread. And it was good. It was so good that the next time I drove by, I did it again. And I'd even do it again, oh yes I would. So now I am sad, because I must stay away from this true bread love. For the sake of my pants. But I'll come back Annarosa's, yes I will. I just need to figure out where I put my willpower. I'm hard pressed to even think of another bakery in the area that is close to the caliber of Annarosa's. I thought that I wouldn't love it as much when it moved from the Tannery in Newburyport to a new location off of 110 next to Tom's Discount in Salisbury, but I was wrong. The open space is nice and not nearly as tight as their old location, and you can see they have plenty of space to do what they do best, which is bake the best freakin' pastries in the area! Their croissants are a fabulous, melt in your mouth texture that isn't to hard and crisp. The bear claw is perfectly flaky with a yummy and delicate almond flavor permeating throughout. The breads are rustic and delicious and a good price. I haven't had a chance to try their deep dish pizza looking breads, but they were so ridiculous looking I almost bought one to eat at 9AM. Make a stop at this place for your bread or pastry needs, you will NOT be disappointed!! read more

Wow. Rosemary bread blew me away. I almost ate the whole thing on the way home and had to go back to get more for dinner. This bread is incredible. Perfectly crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The herbs are perfectly distributed so as not to be overwhelming, but complement the bread. I could seriously eat those rosemary sticks for a meal 3 times per day. We also got the mozzarella panini and my only complaint was that it was a bit oily. Otherwise, delicious. Amazing bakery. You can order just about anything here, breads, rolls, croissants, focaccia, little pizzas. It doesn't matter, it's all going to be good. You can't miss. The only caveat is that they keep pretty limited hours of operation. I think they may be closed Sun-Tues, but I could be wrong about that. A great place to stop for lunch, even. We split a focaccia with cheese (almost a deep dish pizza really) and ate out at the tables that are outside. This makes me see why people get excited about good bakeries. read more
