Got a cake for my birthday today and the cake was sooo dry and tasted old. Very disappointed in the quality of the cake. It does not taste the same. $60 dollars going in the trash.

    Birthday cake with guava filling

Recently got my birthday cake done here and it came out delicious! I showed them the photo of the cake I wanted and small details that I wanted changed. The filling of my cake was guava! When the cake was cut it was overflowing with the guava filling coming out and the cake was soft and moist. Every bite was good! The guava filling tasted amazing and will be ordering from here again. I do wish that there were more details on the cake though, but overall great!

Dominican cake. First tier was pineapple, second tier was guava.

This place is very busy and the line is long but that pineapple cake was so worth it. Can't wait to come back for more!

Paying $300 for a small sheet cake and expecting a white sharp edged well made shipping box with my boyfriends logo and a shipping label on it and I get a rounded edge dark brown cake. I've seen so many beautiful shipping box (mostly Amazon) that are nice square edged box cakes (in the correct color brown). I am so disappointed to show a room full of 80 of his friends this weird looking cake that I dropped $300 on expecting it must look amazing for that price label. I never write a review, but this is really an unfair situation that I can't go and fix myself and for a really special event it's pretty upsetting. I have attached my email to this business owner along with her reply.. which says it all. (See photos for email to owner and her unprofessional response and a pic of her work "for my records" that only further backs my issue. Since professionalism is clearly out the window I'd love to just mention that had I asked for a warm pretzel the color would have been spot on, there's no way I could take this cake to a 40th birthday party and she knows that.)

Unfortunately I did not. I ordered 2 dozen cupcakes to be arranged to look like a cake. I provided a picture to be put on the cake. I also ordered a dozen gluten free cupcakes. The gluten free were dried out, crumbly and MINI, not even full size. The regular cupcakes were a hot mess. They weren't fresh and they tasted stale. She iced them individually when she told me she would use fondant with the team picture on top. She charged me $165 for this ridiculousness. $165!!! When I questioned and expressed my dissatisfaction, she went radio silent. Do yourself a favor and find another baker in the area.

Madrid European Bakery is an excellent spot in Barrington for wonderful European cakes and…read morepastries. Everything in their display case looked enticing, and staff was friendly and patient as we asked what the individual pastries were, as many had delectable creams or fillings of various flavors. They also serve up ice cream, cookies, and coffee/caffeinated drinks. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, which gives off wonderful local cafe vibes. The parking lot is a bit tricky as there's only a one lane entry/exit, so could result in accidents if you and other drivers aren't careful in paying attention. We tried a Santiago orange-chocolate cake slice, an almond croissant, a chocolate chip cookie, and a selection of their 5 mini pastries. These baked treats (5/5) were all excellent in terms of quality, with delicious and satisfying flavors which we really liked. They use fresh and high quality ingredients, so while prices aren't cheap, they are reasonably in line for the quality of baked goods you're purchasing. We also ordered a cappuccino (4/5) which was beautifully presented, but wasn't our favorite among area coffee shops, but still an excellent accompaniment to enjoy their baked goods. We'll definitely be back and would recommend Madrid European Bakery and Patisserie to others. Their list of ice cream flavors looked unique and intriguing, so that only creates a dilemma of which sweet treats you choose to indulge yourself in when visiting.

The photo I took doesn't even come close to capturing how rich and indulgent it truly is. What really stood out, though, was the cake: a heavenly mix of crème brûlée and chocolate mousse that's unlike anything I've found elsewhere. Each bite was smooth, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Euro Madrid is definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for something sweet and unique.
