This is an updated review: The muffins are yummy and it's very cute inside, but I might go to the Wakefield location even though this one is way closer to me. I don't know if the staff were just having a bad morning or maybe there were customers with bad attitudes before me, but dang. There was no one behind me and I wasn't fully sure what kind my friends would want. I wanted to peruse some. I was in and out in about 5 minutes, but the woman behind the counter seemed bothered that I was asking questions about the muffins like the flavors. The display case doesn't have them listed by the muffins. There's a flavor board behind the counter which is helpful, but it would be better if they were each labeled somewhat so you could see and pick them. I asked 2 questions overall and panicked and just picked 2 other flavors hoping they would be okay, but it wasn't as good of an experience as last month and left me a bit flustered. I'm never expecting over the top super happy, springy first thing in the morning but rolling your eyes and acting exhausted from 2 questions just seemed like a bit much for a happy and bright muffin spot. read more

Will NEVER order from this company again. Two years in a row they have screwed up my order because the shipping zip code didn't match the billing zip code. But I'd say that's not unusual for a company where a grandparent who lives in one zip code may be paying for an order that ships to a child or grandchild in another zip code. Last year when I tried to correct it, they put the order through twice and I got charged twice. The bank out a hold on my card and for one weekend I couldn't use it - couldn't buy groceries, gas for the car, or anything else. This year, they did he same thing and I got charged for TWO gingerbread houses, even though I only ordered one. They tried to blame it all on me this time and only gave me a small credit. So it cost me over $230 for a $79.99 gingerbread house. I initially paid over $70 for 2 day air shipping (almost the same cost as the house) because that's what they recommended. Yet the second house was shipped free with ground shipping and it was delivered only one day later. So the high cost of shipping was totally bogus. They totally blew my Christmas budget.I highly recommend against dealing with this company if you want any control over your finances. read more

Cutest little name for an adorable little spot in Winchester. The parking was no problem for me (coming from the city). The muffins were good- not outstanding but fun and yummy. The chocolate chip muffin was not as moist as the all chocolate one. I suggest getting the ones with frosting so they add some moisture. The service wasn't bad but wasn't quaint like it looks like it should be. Seems like it's trying to channel the vibe of a nice grandma's house but instead they're just like... normal... which is fine- just unexpected. These muffins are the perfect dessert - I recently came back here and tried a bunch more flavors and took some detailed reviews on which I would recommend. Boston Cream: I would personally pass on having this muffin again. It was very dense and was very dry. The filling itself was good but it wasn't worth it. I would choose a different one. We tried several of their muffins and treats this morning while in the area. The parking lot is tight but it moves fast so people are in and out. The inside of the store is so cute, filled with not just bakery items, but candy and trinkets/toys. My kids loved it. The glass counter where the muffins are kept is long and inviting. We tried the blueberry, gingerbread (star of the show) and a birthday cake muffin. My youngest also tried a cake pop which she enjoyed. The muffins were lacking a bit of flavor and kind of pricey. I got a text message that I needed to skip breakfast on the way into the office because there would be a Boston Kreme Muffin with my name on it. Okay, I have never heard of such things but I decided to trust the text and I'm glad I did. More "cake" textured than "muffin" with a firm base, the muffin was topped with a thick chocolate layer and stuffed with a custard center. It was amazing. With coffee, perfect. Hands down the best muffins I've had and not to mention they have a variety of flavors. They are dense yet light and moist, not crumbly. This quaint small business is always full of regulars and staff is very friendly. I read points being made that the variety of muffins/selections are sparse at times but I have not had this experience. Usually there are so many, I have a difficult time choosing! TGC has the BEST MUFFINS and who knew muffins could be get so fancy! Even though they are called muffins, I would categorize them as cupcakes. The muffins are so moist, soft and the perfect amount of sweat. There are 2 rows of these beauties and in the glass case with your classic basics-- lemon poppyseed, blueberry, chocolate chip, carrot cake, gingerbread, etc. But they also have these fancy looking muffins with a light cream filling. All their muffins have a big muffin top which is my favorite part of a muffin. Basically you have this huge top with a tiny bottom so it can't even stand up straight when you try. I tried the strawberry shortcake and chocolate dream (essentially double chocolate) which both have the filling inside. Loved both. Will definitely be coming back to try the others! I then asked to put 2 muffins in 2 boxes as was for two separate people. Told no ... only see in boxes 4 or 6? Not too accommodating? Kinda rude again like my last visit? Finally bought 4 in a box and notice they dropped printed boxes with name on them? My first experience will be the ultimate in "one and done!" We are new residents, having just moved to Wakefield a little over a week ago. In exploring our new town, we saw this charming little place and wanted to give it a try. First of all, the clerk (who is probably high-school aged) couldn't have cared less and barely left her stool to answer questions about the offerings in the case. None of them were marked, so there was no way to determine what was available. She answered only what was asked without offering additional help. Once we finally obtained enough information from her to make up our mind, she placed 2 muffins into a single bag, placing one of them sideways in such a way that it stuck to the side of the bag and could not be retrieved without opening the bag all the way from top to bottom. When we asked for a replacement, she sighed heavily, shrugged and began to place the mangled muffin into its own bag. At this point, we tasked that she replace the mangled muffin, which sent her straight over the top. Eye rolls, more sighs, and a muffin which practically got dropped into the new bag. A nearby customer witnessed this entire incident and remarked on how shocked she was at this young lady's attitude. Obviously, not an ideal first impression. But you only get one chance to make that first impression, so consider it done. We will NOT be back. Young lady, you chose this job and life is short. If you don't like it, get another one. You deserve more , your employer deserves better, and your customers certainly deserve more when they are giving you their hard-earned money. One and done for us.... read more

I couldn't believe my muffin luvin' eyes! I wanted to buy almost every option available but I had to behave so I limited my purchase to 6 (tee hee yea, that's behaving) and conned the bestie into getting a carrot cake as one of her options. We cut them in half and dove in! Written in order of consumption with no regrets. The gingerbread: I'm happy I started with this. It got my mouth ready and the party started on my tastebuds. Moist. Light. Perfect gingerbread balance. DELICIOUS ICING. The banana cream: Lulled into a moment of nostalgia with the days of homemade banana pudding I REALLY enjoyed the filling but the icing left a little to be desired. The coffee cake: my bestie said hands down this was winner of them all but I wasn't thrilled and chucked it. No point in consuming calories I can't thoroughly enjoy. Lemon poppyseed: the muffin itself didn't have lemon flavor, just the filling. I have texture issues with food so I had to toss this one also bcz the of the filling. Chocolate dream: oooh yeah talk dirty to me. I've NEVER eaten a muffin oh so slowly so I can savor every bite. It was so good I face-timed my friends who couldn't make it so they could enviously watch me tongue the sweet cream filling and delicately squeeze the muffin to show off its soft texture. Winner winner chicken dinner! (Pardon me while I clean the bit of drool from my mouth) The carrot cake: another winner in my book perfect balance of spice, carrots, nuts, etc. Blueberry: I saved the best for last. The blueberry alone is worth the drive. Berry-licious hunk! I positively loved the texture of these muffins. The edges have a little bit of crunch. The top is overflowing and wonderfully soft. The bottom gives you just enough of that bottom texture without being dry and making you want to chuck it. It was just as spongy and mouth melting as the top. These muffinsn are amazeballs! They're kind of like a cupcake-muffin hybrid. If you look closely in my eyes you'll see it's not a glimmer of light, it's a blueberry muffin. My boss brings these muffins in for us when we have meetings. They are SO delicious, but they aren't really muffins. They're more like cupcakes. They also are mostly top and not much bottom. To me, that's a plus because everyone loves muffin-tops the most. If you eat to many of these though, you'll definitely end up with one. I usually will only eat a piece of one because they are so decadent. Most of them are frosted or have some sort of filling. They are also very pricey. Typically I'd go for a Banana or Lemon muffin, but the ones they have at Gingerbread have filling that tastes pretty artificial to me. If you're going to indulge in one of these bad boys, I'd go for the Boston Kreme, Carrot, or Cranberry Walnut. read more

I didn't know that lying was a skill required to work at the gingerbread construction company. I recently visited the Winchester location and while I was waiting for my order to be ready, I asked another counter girl if there were any broken muffins. She looked me squarely in the eye, said "no;"and turned on her heel and walked into the back room. When my counterperson came back with my order, I mentioned to her that the other girl said there were no broken muffins. She looked up at me and said, "yes, there are; we have an entire bag of broken muffins." After I paid for my purchase, she kindly went over, picked up one of the bags of broken muffins- of which there appeared to be several - and gave me the bag. I fully understand that giving customers muffins is at the discretion of the bakery, and is a very kind gesture. However, I was very offended by the fact that the girl lied to my face. These muffins are so far the best I've had, especially the strawberry short cake! I went in the other day an they did not have many muffins left since it was later in the day which I understand, but I didn't understand why I was not greeted and just got stared at by one of the workers behind the counter. She didn't greet us an it was my 1st time going to the gingerbread co so I had no idea where to start. When I asked what kind of muffins some of them were since there were no signs up she didn't seem like she wanted to answer. When I told her the ones I wanted she just stood there an stared again, I didn't know what she was waiting for. Finally the worker decided to ask "how many muffins are you getting" I told her the amount then she started grabbing the ones I asked for. That was the most uncomfortable position I've felt in a cafe like shop.. like if she wanted me to go behind the counter an get everything myself. Someone give me a pitchfork so I can... pose for American Gothic! Savages. Let's cut right to it. The muffins are out of this freaking world. But I guess you can mold butter flavored Crisco and sugar in to any shape and it would be just as amazing. I kid, I kid. Caloric concerns aside, these hefty beauties come in a glorious rainbow of chocolates, fruits, nuts, buttercreams and, of course, gingerbreads. We opted for the mod quad: Boston Cream, Strawberry Shortcake, Banana Cream and Chocolate Dreme (sic). For $6.69, all were stuffed to the gills with namesake innards and required a little jaw manipulation to get your lips around. Jeffrey and Daniel, calm down. The frozen strawberries caught me offguard and sent my bottom teeth in to toxic shock (!) but otherwise, the muffdiving was a cavity-causing success. All were delicious with one reigning supreme: the Chocolate Dreme (sic, again.) However, in that sense, they are delicious, and big enough to justify the $2.75 price tag. Gingerbread humans are the right size to satisfy a school age child or immature adult. Coffee is nothing to write home about, but makes a nice $5 deal with the muffcakes. I'd hit this again when in the town. They need to do one thing: put some signs on the trays so we know what's what! In a three person line, two of us had to hold it up to ask for descriptions of things that just kind of looked good to us. Ever since I would stop in here & there to bring some to work or home... So the other day I happened to be in the area (weekend errands), and it was also the night before Fathers day so I thought lets stop in... Got there about 4:43 - Looked at the sign & noticed they are closing at 5... So I rush in & am worried they are closing up & will have nothing... The counter was still full, so I could tell they were no where near closing... Now the woman in front of me in line was horrible, wanted coffee no cream, wait yes cream, then No - Cream on the side.. I mean she was being impossible & I get that cant be irritating... so now its my turn & My first line is " Im so sorry, but Im going to be a Pain of a customer & I dont remember which muffins are which", to which I get no comment, not even a smile - because I said rather funny like... Not even an "Ooh Its ok"... I point to my few muffins & she tells me what they are, I pick my 4 and she proceeds to box them up.. I try to make conversation, and say "Ooh Im sorry I came in soo late, I didnt realized you closed this early", to which I still got NOTHING... She tells me the total, I hand her my card, she then slams a receipt on the counter in front of me, I sign and am handed the box as she turns to walk away... Now if you know me, you know I dont love ignorant people & look forward to every opportunity to be as rude as I possibly can back, but for some reason not this time.. Im still trying to be very nice & I say "Thank You Again & Have a great day" (Or somthing to that effect, I just know I was OVERLY nice)... and she is like "Yeah".... Yes the Muffins are great (Just ate the last one we had actually) and it was great... But the Customer Service was HORRIBLE... I mean, look at it this way... Have gotten these muffins on many different occasions. The Boston cream and strawberry shortcake are my favorite. They are light, fluffy, and the frosting is perfectly sweet. They are a quick treat for any type of occasion. The last time I had these was at a work function and I was very excited to be able to eat one of my favorite treats at work.
