This store has absolutely everything you could wish for from the delicious wine and cheese to the cutest dish towels and plates you've ever seen! I actually like this store. Their selections of wine and beer, as well as their chocolates and random artisan gift items. My issue is with the young blonde woman that works behind the counter. Her disposition is cool, at best. Each time I've been in the shop, I have asked her a question about a gift wrapping or a particular chocolate. It's always the same. It's as if I'm bothering her...like she's doing me a favor by taking my money. I just want to say. "You're behind the counter. You work with the public. Customer service is everything. If you're unhappy working with the public, perhaps you should be working in a silo." read more

Earlier this month I was shopping at my not so local fine food and drink store when some chocolates caught my eye. They looked perfect, rich, creamy, and delicious. As a chocolate lover I could not resist, so I purchased them at an absurd price. I took them home to my family and told my children I had a surprise. I handed my son a chocolate, and I knew I had done something wrong as soon as I saw him pucker his cheeks. I did the natural thing and tried the chocolate too, and I too was disgusted. It was like an Easter chocolate from 2011 left out in the sun; sour, bitter, and hollow. I entered the store for the first time with optimism and I was sadly let down. Needless to say I will never buy them again, and I advise others to steer clear of this. Do better. read more

Cute little gift shop in downtown Melrose. They have a lot of unique items from local craftsmen, along with standard gift shop items. They also started selling alcohol, and they have a great selection of beer and some fine wines. Check the price tags on the wines though, they can get pricey! I often visit Buckalew's when I'm looking for gifts around the holidays for friends and family. They have a great selection of everything from kitchen gadgets, to themed dog and cat bowls, to jewelry, chocolates and candles. Most items are reasonably priced, and are unique in that you wouldn't find them in a Target or a Walmart (at least I would hope not!). If you're looking for a gift, or even if you're just looking for gift ideas, I would strongly recommend making a trip to the Buckalew's! read more

Another awesome little local shop on Main Street in Melrose. There's parking on the street as well as behind the building in a public parking lot. They sell a variety of craft beers and wines. They also have some excellent homemade candies as well as home decor, jewelry and plenty of other Knick knacks to explore. Prices are reasonable and staff is super friendly. What a surprise! This place has been here for quite some time and I never went in, dismissing it as a local gift shop. But apparently they sell beer...and have a GREAT selection! I mean, it's no Redstone...but for downtown Melrose, SCORE! You need to go all the way to the back, but once you're there, a more than acceptable selection of craft beer awaits. Tried to order online for my FABULOUS mother for Mother's Day! In light of the current situation I understand things aren't working at the optimal level, however, this online ordering system is abysmal! The website is extremely basic. They are out of all gift baskets with rosé or white wine (which you can't select producers OR vintages, by the way). So I tried just a generic order to put something together myself only to find out that I have to wait almost A WHOLE DAY to pick it up. Get your act together girlfriend and maybe I'll check you out again, but in the meantime, I had an absolutely AMAZING experience across the street where they put together a basket over the phone in 10 minutes and I was able to pick it up within the hour. read more

I love this store! They have tons of cool gift ideas as well as artisan chocolate, candy, small batch jams, sauces, and an extensive selection of local beer/cider. They have a lot of products that you would find being sold at local state fairs, that you can't get any other time of the year. My favorite jam is sold here, called "above the dam" made in Maine. I'm really glad that someone local carries it because it's amazing, and the price isn't inflated or anything. Everything's super reasonably priced. I like this store and the selection that they have for beers and wines. They have little cute stuff. I have been here and purchased many of times and my only compliant is that I found some candy that I LOVED. I came back and they were out..was told they would have them in two days came back (to different people) thy said oh well have them in two days and that happened once again. I have made purchases since then but I would advise them to get the products that people like because they are loosing a sale as well as don't leave people on the string if you wont have a product for awhile just say that because I will be back when you have them! Update: they have been stalking up better! Which is why I added the star. To the review that called me "harsh and frankly spoiled" I don't think it's "spoiled" to want to buy a product. I/my boyfriend/and a friend came in many times looking for the candy and every time was told to come back next week. It took about a month to get the candy. Wonderful store. I have been coming here regularly since it was revamped. Robin, one of the mangers is very gracious and welcoming. The selection is wonderful, especially for the size of the store. You've got a huge display of chocolates, craft beers/wines, crackers, chips, oils, pasta, sauces, you want it, they have it. Besides Robin, everyone else there is also warm and friendly. You feel comfortable walking in, no one turns their nose up. I think the prices are fair, you always get what you pay for. My go to items are Billy Goat Chips and Effie's Homemade corn cakes , absolutely divine. Another great thing is that they'd be happy to look into ordering a product for you, if possible, which I think is excellent for business and will attract more customers. Robin told me that they will be looking into selling cheese and sandwiches in the future, always a plus. I tend to find myself here before I have a party, and we always stock up. Certainly a fabulous boutique store and I highly recommend them. Note: to the review under me. It does take time from a supplier to ship items, they come per week. We love Buckalew's! Such a cute shop centrally located on Main Street in Melrose. They have a nice assortment of craft beers, wine, artisan chocolates, pasta, cheese, gifts, and more.
