Stopped by East Bernard to catch up with a friend of mine and also got to tour a little bit of the town! She had recommended Lupe's and said they had some bomb food I had to try so naturally I had to investigate these claims. I'm happy to report that it was good indeed. We got some chips and dips complimentary and she had mentioned the green salsa was really addictive and I can concur. Like for me salsa really depends on 2 factors the texture and spice level. Texture wise it was perfect but definitely personal preference would have liked just a slight hint of spice in that salsa verde just an itty bitty more. I ordered the Tacos Rodeo and it HIT the spot, beef fajita, onions, cilantro, avocado, and queso fresco! And it was piping hot. No literally the plate was SCORCHING hot which hey hot is good but just be careful touching the plate haha. My friend had the seafood eggplant and you know for someone (me) who's never eaten eggplant it was surprisingly delicious so I can see why that's her favorite! Service was friendly and attentive, and even the restaurant inside had a nice lil character and feel. All in all, it's a great lil spot if you find yourself in East Bernard and wanting to have a hot, filling meal. Give it a shot! read more

This was my first time and last time. The food was really terrible. The beans tasted like they dumped the whole can of chili powder in the pot. The waiter was not very helpful. The fajitas were very over cooked I tasted more burnt on the meat. I don't recommend this place to anyone. For $38.00 dollars I was very disappointed. The salsa was terrible all I tasted was onions. Our newest stop on the road! We had never heard of Lupe's before stopping and are so glad we gabe it a try! Cant wait to be back. As we came in, we were greeted with a smile and seated immediately. Waiter was friendly and attentive. We were a party of 6 with very thirsty athletes. Chips and salsa were brought immediately to the table. Water and tea glasses were refilled every time without needing to ask. Food came out so fast we were completely surprised. We all ordered a different meal and everyone loved theirs and ate more than they should have! Margaritas were some of the smoothest I've had. Loved the atmosphere, food and service! read more

This place is hit or miss on their to go orders. Don't know why I keep going back. I think this was the last time. It's the only Mexican restaurant in probably a 20-30 minutes in any given direction. Today, I ordered the chicken rancheras enchiladas to go and did not eat even a third of them. Very disappointing. Chips and green salsa were good. The tortillas from this place are amazing. They are homemade and have the perfect amount of seasoning/outer crispness. The green salsa that came with the chips was also really enjoyable. We love going to Lupes. We have had great service and really enjoy the food. Everyone is so friendly, they make you feel right at home.

We liked it! Nothing out of ordinary, but starting with fresh and hot chips and salsa, enjoyed it all. Taco good. Enchilada good. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Maybe best thing though was the vibe. Had a party of 10 tonight. The service (thank you, Marcos) and food were excellent. Thanks also to the kitchen staff. We all received our food at the same time, beautifully plated, hot and delicious. I had the Jencarlo combo and it was very well prepared. Every person at our table got something different, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The servers who refilled our glasses were prompt and careful. Restaurant is very clean. Kudos to the manager, Rafael, for a well-run restaurant. We will definitely be back. read more

If you're looking for a rustic, authentic Mexican place...this is it! The decor, the music and atmosphere are spot on. The servers were very attentive and constantly refilled our waters and chips. The chips were delicious. They come out warm. The salsas provided, one green and one red, are both delicious! We had Lupes sampler as an appetizer, which was ok. For entrees we had the crispy tacos that were also ok. The rice and beans were really good...I hardly ever like Mexican rice! read more

We came to this place on New Year's Eve and I was pretty disappointed with the enchiladas and the sauce they put on it was absolutely disgusting. Ok...this is not a total 4 star place. The queso was Velveeta and the margarita was tasteless. But...this was just about the best carne guisada I have ever had. So it gets a 4 star review from me. To find it in East Bernard was a pleasant surprise. Seriously. This stuff was great. Tender beef, completely cooked veggies, gravy was spot on. The tortilla that came with it were sturdy enough to hold up under the heft. Even the rice and beans that came with it were absolutely fantastic. The wife had the chicken mole enchiladas. I am not a mole fan but she told me they were as authentic as anything she used to get back on in the farm kitchen in El Paso. Service was a delightful young man with perfect manners. If it wasn't an hour drive from home and their margaritas were better, I would make a special trip out here more often. But if you just want some authentic Mexican flavor and you are anywhere near East Bernard, this is the place. Skip the queso and bar. read more

Corn tortillas with perfect char from the gas stove flame, charro beans have a unique seasoned flavor, the guacamole is perfect and the frozen margarita is hard to have only one. The food is excellent and the owners make you feel welcome. Tortillas (flour and corn) are homemade, not store bought and the chips and salsa are fresh. Food is of excellent quality and they give you a great portion for the price. Also, the chile con queso is to die for. I'm new to town so we tried this restaurant Thursday night. The food was pretty decent. I had the beef fajita nacho ( half order) and my fiancé has the fish taco. He absolutely loved the chicken tortilla soup. He raved it was better than my home made soup... but my 5 star review really goes to our server Zack. He was so attentive, and knew the menu like the back of his hand. He was so helpful and super funny. He's a hard working fellow and deserves his praise. We will be back because of him. read more

In a tiny farm town such as East Bernard is these days (it's quaint now, can only imagine it in its hey-day) this is a gem! Along with Vincek's. I come here often for Vincek's to go, but finally got here to check it out, and overall, I wasn't disappointed. It's a little worn inside, but don't let that fool you. The good ol' farming locals come here and hang out and the chips and salsa are basically excellent. If you've had the green salsa at Los Cucos, well, then you know what to expect from the green salsa here--it's the same kind! I know, right!? What are the odds of finding that awesomeness way out here in a little hole in the wall? Well, that's awesome. And so was my entree, and the chile con queso. At first I was a little uncertain, but the meal and tea, and watching Amtrak fly by, and seeing all the locals roll in for dinner--well, I'll be back now, ya hear? The only downsides I saw: - Not the most attractive place, but chalk it up to location and budget. - Place smelled a little odd when I first walked in, but once the food started rolling out, that's all I could smell from then on, and it was tasty. I have lived in the area for e decade and just bought property 5 miles from here. I am from San Antonio so I am VERY picky about my Tex-Mex. this place is awesome. I am so glad to have them here. Lupe's has amazing food. We stopped for lunch. It was quick, the service was great and the food was amazing. The Mar y Tierra is an outstanding dish with bacon wrapped shrimp and fajitas. The fajitas have Lupe's sauce which is a Mexican version of a Marsala sauce with tomatoes, mushrooms and grilled onions. Highly recommend! read more

We ate here back around Christmas on our way back to Austin from my Grandmother in laws. We like great Tex-Mex and this place had it! There green sauce was the best it was so good that when we got home my wife called and told them we live out of town and would they tell her what's in it.
