This is the second time eating here with my parents and once with my daughter. And both time we have been happily satisfied with the food and the outstanding service. From the young lady greeting us behind the register to the wait staff, all have made us feel like at home. Feels good, as a customer, to have the employees treat you like they truly want you here. I ordered the tacos Al carbon and the beef fajita was juicy tender. My dad said "they treat us so well every time we come that I will come eat here daily!" We looked at reviews/pics and were excited to eat at a place that gives compliments queso with the chips & salsa. The waiter brought only salsa, so my mom asked for the queso and out came the queso and peppers we'd seen on yelp. The waiter brought our drinks and brought me tea instead of water. I took a sip and we asked for water instead. My mother watched our waiter take the tea and straw I'd just drank out of to another lady. My mom's meal included enchiladas she did not receive until we getting our check, so they were boxed up with our leftovers. When we got the check there was a mystery charge for $6.99. My mom asked what it was and it was the queso! The waiter then said no the queso is not complimentary. So I guess they've changed it and now 90% of the yelp reviews and phots are wrong. But the worst part about paying $6.99 for queso we thought was complementary was that the amount of queso we were given wasn't even half a cup! Maybe a third of a cup of queso with a few pickled jalapeño pieces for $6.99! It's not like Sealy is bursting with a variety of places to eat. But should we ever visit again we will be sure to avoid this place! read more

We stopped here on our way back from San Marcos due to the 4.5 star rating out of 50 people. I usually recommend places to friends and family but this will not be the case with Herrera's Mexican Restaurant! The food was not the best, we know what to expect from Mexican cuisine. We order a Mojarra Frita and it was okay. We also order the Molina's plate, the chalupa got served first, the chili and the beans taste horrible like dirty sewage water. Then I got the plate with the shrimp and chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. The enchiladas sauce was sweet, rice was bland and hard, the beans same story. Tasted horrible! It's a disappointment for Mexican food. The Service was great, it not the waitress fault but more so from the cooks and the owner for not making sure items are tested before being served! read more

Great family restaurant. The first thing they do is give you a free spread- see pic of queso, warm salsa and warm chips and veggie mix. We had cheese and beef enchiladas with plenty of chili on top. Went there Christmas Eve with daughter, son in law, and 4 grandchildren. Wife loves the queso and chips. Love the food and the service is superb. Glad Eddie recommended it. We will be going there for a lunch in the future. I believe they will give Ernesto's a run for the money. We really had a great time there and will return many more times in the future. read more

Four stars for better than average Mexican fare, and *excellent salsa* and good chips. Iced tea was very good too, and served in an actual *glass*!!!! I had the shrimp chimichanga, and it was served hot and tasty and didn't taste like weird seafood, or oceany or whathaveyou. It was served with your normal but good rice and beans, with a prelude of chips and TWO YES TWO SALSAS. Chips are not the stale staple you see at lesser places, but were served warm and crisp. Not the thinnest, but definitely in the right "good" ballpark to suit me. I'm very picky about chips and salsa, and it often informs my entire opinion about a tex-mex place... But the salsas here, were Excellent, one warm spicy red, and a thick creamy green, much like the green at Los Cucos, which is a win! The service was very prompt, very courteous, and extremely sunny and upbeat! Best service I've had anywhere in town in a long while. Frequent enough to be on point but not too much so as to be a nuisance. The perfect balance. I shall definitely return, while secretly lamenting the location. Thanks to fellow yelpers for putting this place on here, because I wouldn't have known it was there for awhile as I rarely drive by that spot, except I was writing another review and saw a link to this place as being "nearby" and of course I was immediately curious. And surprised a restaurant, much less a MEXICAN one (I LOVE Mexican food) snuck into town unbeknownst to me. Minus one star for location. I don't want to be mean because they probably can't help it--starting off a business takes a lot of capital so I'm sure they did what they could, but, if you know the area, you know that the neighborhood it's on the edge of, while innocent enough looking passing by, is the worst in Sealy. My aunt used to live in the apartments next door and there was a murder whilst she was living there. Interior decor is meager, but there is plenty of seating. I never enjoy things in shopping centers, and well, its in one. Hopefully though, either they will help bring the neighborhood up, or be successful enough over time to be able to afford a nicer place--DOWNTOWN SEALY would be very very Nice. We need more and good restaurants back there, to get it hopping. Granted, there are two other Mexican food places nearby/in downtown already, though neither with food as good... alas. read more

Hopped off the interstate at Sealy for a quick dinner after picking Galla from good reviews on Yelp. I was initially put off by the fact that it was Saturday at 7:30 and the place was completely empty! Being the only customers, we were well attended, and almost smothered by hovering servers. The chips and 2 salsas brought to us were tasty, with the green salsa with avocado being very good, and the red salsa being served warm, which was a nice touch. I ordered the bacon wrapped chicken on the server's recommendation. It beautifully presented with nice colorful arrangement. The chicken was very tough, but plentiful. The rest of my family's order was disappointing, with fajita tacos and quesadilla also being very chewy. My wife's taco had a strange aroma of beer..... I was hoping that we were just early for the dinner rush, but, only 1 other person arrived during our stay, for takeout. All-in-all, this place was not worth the diversion from I-10, in our opinion. Next time, we will go the few extra miles and stop at Los Cabos in Columbus. read more

I have eaten here numerous times. Their lunch seems to be better than their dinners. Maybe it's the day cook versus the night cook. The food is typical Tex-Mex fare which is a good thing. The problem is the food is inconsistent; it is sometimes very good while other times it's mediocre at best. At lunch they serve complimentary queso, chips, homemade pickled jalapeños, onions & carrots along with warm salsa and creamy green sauce, although recently they have gotten very stingy with the Queso. The lunch plates are large portions. Carne Asada was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Home made tortillas to die for. Not only was the food delightful, but the service was top notch. Sat within seconds, served complimentary hot chips, fresh salsa, queso, and jalapeños before we even opened our menus. Refills provided before empty. And food delivered quickly. The enchilada sauce appears to be store bought. Looks like they just wrapped fajita meat around a flour tortilla, then threw tomato sauce on top, sprinkled cheese on it and threw it into the microwave. Very disappointed in the food. My daughter rated her Tacos Al Carbon between a 6-8. I've read the other reviews of this place and everyone else has referenced the chips and the two salsas. We had lunch on a Saturday around noon, we didn't get two salsas and the chips were not warm and crisp ( they were cold and stale ) with only 1 cold red salsa. The food lacks flavor. Did we come on the wrong day, wrong time, order the wrong dishes??? Guess we'll never know, paid $38 for bland tasting food. We won't be coming back. read more

This place in sealy used to be Gallas but now is Herrera's I was not impressed by their enchiladas. My husband ordered shredded chicken and the sauce was sweet ‍ the beans were too mushy and rice was okay.. chips and salsa good but like I said wasn't impressed. read more

We ordered take out to satisfy our Mexican food craving during this COVID-19 adjustment. We ordered 2 meals, 2 margaritas & chips and queso & all tasted wonderful! Great service & our food was ready as we got there to pick up (a few minutes earlier than our quoted wait time!) we also made a couple modifications to our orders and all were perfect :) The only suggestion I would make was the queso seemed a little "thin" & runnier than we are used to, but thickened up as it cooled-May be a personal preference but the taste was still great! Love love love this place! I've never had a bad experience here. Yesterday my daughter and I ate here, and as always, it was great. I ordered the mar y tierra which is 4 bacon wrapped shrimp and 1/4 lb of fajita (I always get all beef). It also comes with charro beans, rice, and handmade flour tortillas. Daughter ordered chicken fajita flautas with rice and beans. Of course I had to get a frozen margarita, def the best around. I come here as often as I possibly can, which usually results in 1-2 times per month. If I had it my way, it would be more often. I've tried several different things on the menu, but I always find myself coming back to 3 dishes: Mar y Tierra, Beef Fajitas, and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. All are great! The street tacos are also pretty good; not as good as Tacos y Tortas Adrian, but good nonetheless. Hubby always gets chicken enchiladas al carbon and he loves it every time. The service is great and I rarely have to ask for my drink to be topped off. The tortillas are thick and fluffy and pretty much amazing. They also have $.99 draft beer all day everyday. Can't beat it. Best Mexican food in Austin County, hands down. read more
