Our visit was March 9. Still in the infancy of this place.. but our experience was pretty good. + Excellent food. I had the Pollo Poblano which is designated as their signature dish. I even ate the rice and beans which I typically don't do for most Latin restaurants that I patronize. + Good wait staff service. + Personal greetings by the owner(?.. definitely wasn't wait staff) - The food was a bit slow in coming.... and we (party of 4) were nearly the only patrons. ? Carne Asada Taco, is the Mexican dish taco there is in my opinion, it it fresh and it has an intoxicating taste.

An absolutely great place to have dinner, the are this establishment is located needed some more restaurants, so this place should thrive! We got greeted by the owner and got a complimentary appetizer, it was so good and authentic! The food took a long time to come out because it was a small kitchen and they where packed. Just ate there for the first time yesterday and I loved the Latin atmosphere that is represented there. Had 3 different tacos and now I wish I would've taken a picture of them to show you all. The salsa that came with the tacos needed a little bit more "bite" although not everyone would like that. The waitress did let me try their homemade habenero salsa and man was that hot. Also, they have an assortment of drinks and beers here. The House Especial that comes in the mug is soooo good. Great little spot on the outskirts of campus. Super laid back inside and wonderful Latin food inside. Super nice people. We ordered the tapas and was not disappointed. I understand they just opened and it will take a while to get everything worked out. But I won't be going back. They were not prepared to handle any sort of lunch rush despite being directly across from campus. There was no water to drink, no fountain, but a fully functional bar (with no bartender). The food took a very long time to make and was delivered 1 item at a time (I ordered 2 tacos and they came on separate plates). There was no heat...not any spicy and not any warmth. Yes, I know that Mayan food is traditionally mild but even the salsa was mild. I ordered salbutes, like a mini tostada, with romaine lettuce, meat, avocado, cucumber, marinated onions and cheese. I got iceberg, dry meet and LOTS of onions. I really do wish them well. And I think you should check them out in a month. read more

My dad and I ate here for the first time tonight. We will definitely be back. My dad had the Lupes Plato. Before we got our main meal, we were given a plate containing watermelon and tangerine segments with pepper sprinkled on them. It was surprisingly good. I had a plate of three street tacos--1 Carne Asada (beef), 1 Pollo Asada (Chicken), and 1 Puerco Asada (Grilled Pork). We both had the Jarrito Mango to drink. It was very good. Both meals were served with a rice dish and black beans. My dad had plantains with his and he said that those were like cardboard. That was the only thing that he didn't like about his meal which contained pork, the rice dish, black beans, and a container of hot tortillas. read more

Tasty happy hour margarita (good happy hour price, spendy otherwise), which would have been better w/ a little more spiced salt rim. We had a great meal and tasty margaritas. They offer a different type of meal with Latin American options rather than Americanized Mexican dishes. I had the Peruvian chicken and hubby had the shrimp. Other friends had the meat option and pollo poblano. Some dishes could have been warmer but the flavors were well balanced and the meat was deliciously tender. I really wanted to like Lupe's, I have been excited for it ever since I heard It would be opening up. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. We came on a slow day, there was only us two and another table of three people in there. We ordered beer( they do have a great beer and alcohol collection, I had Modelo Negro on tap) and then ordered a carne asada taco and a shrimp taco. They came out very fast but both tacos were cold like the meat had been prepared beforehand and then just slapped on the grill very quickly, but not for long enough. I probably won't be back for food, but maybe for drinks. read more

This place is amazing!!! I ordered a ceviche to share with my two young daughters, and they loved it so much that I ordered a second round. The customer service is excellent and the music and ambiance is so inviting and uplifting. The owner told me they even have a salsa dancing night on the weekends. I've never had Yucatán food until I came to Lupes and I was not disappointed! The food is like mexican food but with a flare of different flavors. This experience made me question whether it's wise to immediately try a new restaurant. The decor was delightful and the menu was exciting, but the execution was poor. Lupe's sticks out in its neighborhood as being classy and beautiful, perfect for upscale drinks, unique food, a date. But I ultimately left disappointed. We were started with bread and a dip that the waitress didn't explain, I think it was yogurt and cilantro. The bread was cold, white and doughy. We felt bereft of chips so we ordered some with fresh guacamole, probably the best decision all night. Our entree came without tortillas, they weren't ready yet. We waited for five minutes, looking longingly at our food, but she only brought us two tiny, cold corn tortillas, assuring us that she'd ordered more. They took an additional ten minutes to get to us. The flank steak was served in one large piece that we had to cut with a butter knife. This is an example of an idea that failed in execution, the chef should have sliced he flank steak against the grain for us, it was unpleasantly tough the way it was served. Maybe I'll try back in a year when they've ironed out the details. read more

Lupe's has quickly become one of my favorite places in Corvallis. The food is incredibly flavorful, the staff is great, the cocktails are PHENOMENAL, and everything is very reasonably priced. This is a very unique restaurant and the care that is put into every part of the meal is apparent. Even the black beans and rice are exceptionally flavorful. To start off the meal, they bring you a complimentary dish of a creamy chili dip made from Anaheim peppers, called Ixcatic. It contains cream cheese, a little mayonnaise, garlic, salt, and pepper, blended into a thin spread with the peppers, and served with little Melba toasts. It is amazing! My main dish was a Mayan pork cutlet called Poc Chuc that comes covered in a roasted tomato sauce and served with pickled onions. It was very flavorful; not spicy hot, but complex in its depth of flavor. Lupe's fills a gap in Mexican offerings in Corvallis, as there is no other place that offers the Mayan specialties of the Yucatan peninsula. Once a month they make cochinita Pibil, which is pit-roasted pork wrapped in banana leaves. I'm looking forward to trying it. Lupe's is a must-go in Corvallis! read more
