Saucy times. Kan kun is lush but El yucatero is really good (I called it habanero sauce in the review) :)

Taste test on egg. (The bbq ain't from here I just don't have one ATM) Lazy day test for bbq, sriracha, hanenero sauce and kan kun (new sauce. Bbq wasn't spicy of course. Sriracha is lush, mild/moderate heat picante tomato, hanenero sauce is is same spice level slightly more vinegar flavour. The last one, kan kun is Defo more spicy but not TOO much. Strong pepper flavour not as much tomato. I'd recommend them all in various combination. Yum.

I'm the American who cries in Lupe Pintos at the sight of a 3 Musketeers Bar. Highly recommend to any North Americans who are feeling a bit homesick, however, I will warn you that if you've never paid $6 for a small box of Biscquick, then now's your chance. They now have Aunt Jemima syrup, I'm happy to report, and if you're feeling like having a bit of cornbread, they've got the instant mixes that you grew up with. Now for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about (i.e. not from N. America), I will point out that there's a lot in there in the way of spicey. In fact, there is a WHOLE SECTION dedicated to spicey barbeque sauces and hot sauces. What's not to love? The only problem you'll have is deciding which one to choose. It's definitely worth a look, and, if you're having a hard time finding that obscure spice for that curry you're making, chances are Lupe's will have it.

Epitomising the stretch of Great Western Road in which it's located, Lupe Pinto's is an authentic and quirky deli which has steadily gathered a firm following in the West End, having initially opened in Edinburgh. While this is obviously, in part, due to its extensive range of goodies from across the world, primarily America (with a fantastic selection of 'candy'), the Carribbean and South America, it also stems from the interaction between owners and clientele. For instance, customers are encouraged to submit their own recipes using Lupe Pinto stock for future recipe books, while the website encourages owners of the fashionable Lupe Pinto's eco-friendly bag to take photos of them with it outside their favourite delis across the world. It's this community feel that is rapidly leading to Lupe Pinto's becoming an institution in the area. The products generally edge towards the more expensive side of things, extra you may grudge paying for a bottle of Lone Star and a Butterfinger. However, you simply cannot argue with the quality of the spices and meat on offer. A fantastic deli.

Whether you're after a wee snacky delicacy for a dinner starter (or dessert!), that essential but hard-to-find exotic ingredient that you simply must-have for a recipe, a designer beer or three, or even a quality malt whisky, Peckhams is the place that you're likely to find it. I usually visit here when my eye is caught by a fancy malt whisky in the window (cunningly displayed right beside their cash machine, the cads!), or when I'm seeking margaritas mix for what has become a Christmas cocktails tradition with us. The West End would be a poorer place without Peckhams. Long may they continue.

I love Peckhams. I'm probably there far too often. They pride themselves on being able to cater to your foodie needs all day long, with pastries and rolls in the morning, a wide range of lunch options and even their own range of freshly made ready meals for dinner. Then of course they have offers for coffee and cake, should you need anything else in between. As far as I'm concerned, this is what delis should be like. They would get five stars out of five too, but the service can be just a little bit on the slow side. I don't mean when they're struggling with the lunchtime rush because that's fair enough. I mean, it can take them a few minutes to realise that you haven't been served, and in serving you some things they can be very slow (don't bother getting butter on your roll in the morning, unless you've got plenty of time on your hands). It's easy to forgive them because they're friendly and helpful and because everything is delicious but if they were just a tiny bit more efficient Peckhams would be perfect.

Places like Polish Taste, only act to cement this feeling. Whilst in the area at the weekend and having just picked up some awesome cakes and sausage rolls at Cottonrake (find review, read, love and visit!) From perogies (spelling?) to awesome sausages, tinned good and fresh fruit. I've been back, I'll be back again and would advise anyone who's in the area to pop in for a nosey. Although I'm not Polish, I've spent quite a lot of time there and am a big fan of the culture. As soon as you step through the doors of this deli - you feel a bit like you're actually in Warsaw, and not in the West End of Glasgow. Wood paneling and straw baskets make this place undeniably cute, and as well as shelves and shelves of canned and tinned goods (all in Polish - obviously) you'll also find fresh goods. This includes a meat counter to die for (what can I say? I'm a carnivore at heart) as well as a mini bakery and lots and lots of cheese. All these products are delicious - and also very reasonably priced. I also love the fact that they sell Polish newspapers and magazines here. This definitely adds to the sense that a trip into Polish Taste is like a mini-holiday to Eastern Europe!

I ordered a latte and thinking I would get a decent amount of coffee, I was left disappointed. You know those small glasses you get for water? That's what the latte came in. A friend and myself, although I had had breakfast a few hours previously, decided to go for pancakes. Now, the flavourings sounded amazing - from something that we believed was going to taste like carrot cake to apple and cinnamon (which is what I went for). First, we waited for ages. When the "pancake" finally arrived, it was a huge skillet type pancake. They looked good and smelled lovely. Unfortunately, upon cutting in, my friend found her's to be completely raw in the centre (think batter), and mine was burnt on the underside - completely burnt. They also, unfortunately, lacked a lot of flavour and were very dry. The raw pancake was replaced with a free and un-raw one, and I ate about three quarters of mine (but I wasn't happy about it). It's also really quite warm in here. The few things that redeem this place is the bread on display (beautiful, beautiful bread) and the veggie sausage roll (which does not look like a sausage roll at all, but taste lovely). I also really like the tree inside the room. The staff is also very friendly.
