The Great Western Sandwich Co is a cute little sandwich/coffee shop in the west end with a really interesting sandwich menu. Initially, I popped in for some take away coffee a few weeks back and noticed the brunch and Sandwich options which caught my eye. I am yet to try their sandwiches, but I was particularly attracted to their Brunch options which go beyond your typical fry up. So Sunday came and a friend and I decided to try it out for brunch. Their Brunch menu offers a variety of interesting choices, most of which had a Mexican food influence. I opted for one of the more interesting breakfast choices - beef and pork chilli with avocado, salsa and egg served on a bun. This sounded delicious but unfortunately it was slightly underwhelming as the food was actually quite bland. The menu is also well priced and inexpensive. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and both of us enjoyed spending a Sunday morning there. I would go again to try some more of their menu as I am curious to try some of those famous sandwiches!

Been meaning to try this place for a while. The menu sounds amazing. Popped in for a takeout sandwich and got the Philly cheesesteak one, can't remember what its name is. To be honest, I was underwhelmed. It has a taste of something I didn't like in it which overpowered everything else. It was also pretty inadequately wrapped, as the sandwich was quite wet - it leaked through the paper wrap and all over my bag by time I got it back to work. Would go back to try something else though, as it's a nice laid back vibe and friendly staff. They also allow dogs in so automatically a thumbs up from me!

I had been here a few times in its previous existence as cafe Pop (I remember a particularly messy delicious experience with a Frankie Knuckles), but this was my first trip since it changed its name. The decor has also been spruced up, with far more seating than previously, and some attractive minimalist photos and plants around the place. I couldn't decide what to order from the huge menu, but the Carnitas, with pulled pork, refried beans, avocado, red onion and jalapeños was recommended. And my god it was good. The bread tastes fresh and delicious, and holds together really well, perfect for eating on the go (or while driving, as I was). The filling felt moist without being too wet and making the bread soggy. The ingredients all tasted really fresh and zingy. They also serve Dear Green coffee and I loved the shiny red coffee machine - gave the whole place a retro touch! Although it's a sandwich shop, the speciality ones are more the size and complexity of burgers, without the price tag. Highly recommended - one of the best sandwiches I've had in Glasgow.

I have been to Papercup almost every time I've visited Glasgow and I have never been disappointed…read more You go to the North of England and it's impossible to get a full English (or something close to it) with gluten-free bread. The solution in Glasgow is to forget boring run-of-the-mill 'full' anythings for breakfast or brunch and go to Papercup instead. I don't even drink coffee, which they are known for. I need to try a hot chocolate here one of these days. My friend ordered an oat milk one on this visit and said it tasted like a dessert in itself. Vegan, veggie, or gluten-free? No problem. Papercup has you covered. I've come here on multiple occasions and requested gluten-free bread without anyone batting an eye. Most American restaurants seem to want to make you feel like a criminal to even ask. My egg omelette on this visit had so many yummy toppings and was so big, bread wasn't even needed. It's a wonder these wizards can make such creations in such a small space! We happened to nab the corner table directly across from the cake case and I watched as our food was made with so much love. A drizzle of sauce, a squeeze of lime...this is the kind of place you want to get behind because they treat you like part of the family. Caveat: this place is small and you'll want to go at downtimes if you can (avoid breakfast/brunch on the weekends, for example) or else you'll be stuck outside waiting for a table to free up. You'll see locals popping in for their usual coffee orders and a muffin, then pop back out. For such a small shop, they have an oddly large unisex bathroom in the back. I remember the first time I had to use their facilities and being pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the size of a closet like you'd find in London. But let's face it, a place like this wouldn't exist in London in the first place, would it?

The vibe is cute and was very crowded on a weekday morning! For food, we were happy with the breakfast burger and the stracciatella toast (pesto, strawberry, tomato, ricotta). Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

Oh dear, I've clearly not been paying attention! What I do know is that they have a wee makeover recently and it's worked, because the signage caught my eye and I knew I needed to pop in to check it out. I visited for afternoon tea with Donald M but I'd just eaten, so I only fancied a tea rather than anything to eat. It's a lovely space - the colour scheme is amazing and gives it a pretty cool vibe, very sleek, modern and classy. There's a huge display case of fresh salad items where I assume they can whip you up whatever you fancy. There's bagels, panini, sweet treats and soup - your typical lunch offerings. I opted for a cup of tea - berry - and enjoyed it in the snug window seats which are a great idea. They're padded and cosy and great for people watching and chatting away. The staff on were super friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home and not rushing us when they were getting close to closing time. This is a great spot in Finnieston and would make for a great cafe to pop by for lunch when you don't fancy a sit down restaurant meal in one of the many restaurants along the strip. I'll be back for lunch very soon! Note: they take Swipii card.

I find it a shame that there is nothing different on the menu, as everywhere I go in the area I seem to see the same menu on offer, panini, jacket potato, and soup. The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.

We ordered the Pigeon Breast, Bramble, Chicory, Walnut , the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Organic Arran Leaf & Herb Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette, and both dishes completely blew us away. The flavor combinations were thoughtful, unique, and perfectly balanced. This is one of those special spots worth treating yourself to at least once. Whether it's a romantic evening or a celebration with friends, it's an unforgettable dining experience on one of Glasgow's most charming lanes.
