Ok, so I'm writing this review on Colonel Mustard's launch day, having tried one sandwich, so maybe take it with a pinch of salt, but so far, so good.
The deal here is made to order sandwiches. You decide whether you want a basic sandwich (on brown or white bread), a toastie panini, bagel or wrap. Then you pick a couple of fillings (extras for 70p each) and a dressing. You can add soup if you want it, or you can have your lunch made up as a salad instead. Baked potatoes are another option. They even offer jumbo hot dogs.
The friendly, chatty staff take your order and hand you an order number and, five minutes later you get your food. It's take away only at the moment, but the space is big enough that they could probably add a table or two if they wanted to at a later date.
Naturally, filled rolls are on the menu too, both breakfast and lunch options here, with toast and croissants available too. They sell hot and cold drinks and, interestingly, milkshakes. I think I'll have to come back for one of these - they make their own vanilla ice cream in store and have a selection of toppings to go on it, so if they milkshakes are made with the ice cream they could be pretty good.
How was my food? Well, I messed up. I wasn't thinking it through and I ordered a panini filled with chicken caesar, cucumber and mustard. Let's be honest, cucumber doesn't really work in a panini, does it? Somehow, though, I got away with it and my panini was pretty great. Seriously generous on the big chunks of chicken breast and, although it didn't look huge, it was pretty filling.
I'm reserving the fifth star for when I've had time to work my way through more of the menu but, as I say - so far, so good. read more
