The Sandwich Concept is a mix of positives and negatives.
I'll get the negatives out the way first. I was surprised considering the aesthetics of the interior that the staff were quite abrupt. I didn't find the girl and guy serving me to be, but there was one girl who looked really ticked off. I thought it was just because it was lunchtime but judging by the other reviews, apparently this is always the case.
The food was good and cheap (2 pounds for a buttered baked potato) but I've got to say, I was a bit surprised by the low standard of my sandwich. I hate being this pernickety and usually I'll scoff most foods, but I went for the savoury cheese and found it a bit overpowering. It was saturated with mayonaise and made me feel a bit sick. So I picked at it to be poilte while I sat in there and tossed the rest when I got outside.
The sandwich options are more limited than you'd imagine for a place looking like this, and it ended up being more like a breakfast roll type cafe when it looked like it was going to be super swanky. I love places who specialise in fry-ups but I can't help but feel the decor of this place, in all its pine laden glory, is a bit misleading.
I hate opening my cake hole and complaining since I work in a cafe and know how picky people can be....and how much you could honestly throttle people en masse for being so rude and ignorant. But that aside, it's quite annoying when on a day off you are being served and the staff don't make much effort! I must stress that some of the staff in here are more approachable than others, and the girl serving me was guid, but I noticed a few of the servers making another customer feel awkward. I'd get grilled if I acted like that in my work so it doesn't seem very fair. I don't like it when people are forced to paint smiles on but if you're in work you should make a bit more of an effort.
So all in all, the place looks good but it's hit or miss whether you'll be served by someone smiley, and certain foods are a bit sub-standard. But they get bonus points for having the biggest and most delicious bananas I've ever tasted! How I can say that with a straight face I'll never know... read more
