This little take away lunch spot popped up late last year on St. Enoch square and immediately piqued my interest. As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place. read more

I found this place on Yelp (just like I always do for the best-kept secrets just waiting to be found) and I'm really glad I did. When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). I really do love Nic's but I actually don't visit it all that often - mainly before the subcrawl! If you're starting at St Enoch Square, pre-subcrawl scran at Nic's is highly recommended. This Nic's is pretty wee and there's a small outside eating area. We were in for a couple of sandwiches and the lady working was super friendly and chatty which was nice! She even offered us some subcrawl tips but of course we're experts now. Haha. I got a Vietnamese Chicken Twerker as I'd tried it at the Byres Rd branch and loved it, and I have to say this one was just as good. So delicious. If you like satay flavours, you'll love this sandwich. Two sandwiches came in at just under £10 which is good value for such well-made and well-stuffed sandwiches! Their menu is pretty imaginative and I like that they do unusual sandwiches that aren't just the basic options you can get anywhere. The only thing that puts me off this location is the fact there isn't a bigger seating area/customer loo, but it's perfect for takeaway so I'll still give it a full 5 stars. read more

I had held of doing this review until I had visited more than once. Reason being is that first time round I had the heart stopper roll and was not overly fussed. It was pulled pork with a tattie scone and coleslaw. It was nice but not fantastic. I would pitch it as being an up market burger van food. But I think that's actually the key to liking this place. Don't think your are gonna get gourmet quality. They are doing lunch time food with a twist and it works. The range of inventive options is mind blowing and it is really really hard to choose. On my second visit I had a BBQ hot dog and it was great. Really tasty sauce, onions and a GIGANTIC gherkin to have with it. Now on to the Donuts!!!! They do donuts which seem like Krispy Kreme quality. With inventive fillings and toppings. I bought a box of six and they were all brilliant. Favourites were the m and m topped one and the peanut cream filled ring..... Final standout thing is the staff. Who are extremely friendly and proudly display their recent yelp award. Why 4 stars and not 5? Two reasons. The food is great, but not 5 star quality. Also the lack of seating apart from the outdoor seats in the less than inviting St Enoch square. Some of their rolls can be tricky to eat and I just wish they had some room for seats inside to shelter from the cold. Nic's is without a doubt one of the best things to have ever happened ever. Their food, service, everything is just brilliant and I only wish I could come here more often! I work in Alloa and so the only day I can go here is a Saturday. One of the genuine reasons I miss working in Glasgow is because there are so many lunch options! *pines* I've only been here a few times (sadly!) but I have had the New Yorker sandwich (pastrami, Swiss cheese, pickle and mustard...mmmmmmm) and it was not only delicious, but massive! Such good value for money, I'm dying to try the rest of the menu as well - especially the pancakes. And now for the doughnuts. Oh the doughnuts. I'll admit there have been many times I've moaned because Glasgow doesn't have a Krispy Kreme, but Nic's doughnuts make this a non-issue! They do such a wide range and they're also reasonably priced (and big!) and I totally love them. There are still loads of different ones I'd like to try, so I'll obviously have to go back at some point. What a shame!! About a month ago I ordered some doughnuts for my cousin and his wife who'd just had a wee boy, and they were so brilliantly decorated! A nice wee change from the usual baby presents, cupcakes etc. as well. Pic will follow :) and at just under £15 for 12 personalised doughnuts, you really can't go wrong with that! As with most reviews I write where I totally love a place and start thinking about the delicious things they do, this is making me want to go to Nic's immediately! Need to try out their new Hope Street place at some point anyway, I think it's great they've got somewhere you can sit in now, as their food definitely deserves more than being hastily shoved in your gob while on the move! Oh my MY! I can't really speak from drooling. I was introduced to this little delight by a colleague who had had the most interesting lunch, a sandwich alluringly entitled Double D's; a pair of unglazed donuts with roast chicken, bacon, cranberry and mango sauce and lettuce and mayo. But it was their donut menu that attracted me. With doughy delights that blow Krispy Kreme out the water, I couldn't wait to get my calorific hungry mouth around their Big Salted Apple, a 'nut with apple pie, oozing out of a salted caramel topped fondant. The second time I opted to treat myself to one of their reasonably priced sandwiches, and plumped for a Vietnamese Chicken Twerker on ciabatta bread (£4Roast chicken, mushed avocado mixed with coriander and lime salsa, and skippy peanut butter! I made such a mess of myself as I inhaled this heavenly creation. And ye know what? I didn't care! After raving about it to my Mum and her friends I was obligated to pick up one of their dirty half dozen. A box of six of their wonderfully unique donuts, at a very worthwhile £6.99. I was also lucky enough to have them cater for a work event, and the pulled pork, slow cooked garlic beef and chilli con, and sin, carne did not disappoint! read more

Yes. This is how you do sandwiches people. Par example: 'The Elvis" - Peanut butter, banana and bacon. Nice. I was alerted to this place earlier in the week by Ryan M and me being as impressionable as ever, toddled on down. It is situated next to Times Square at St Enoch's and used to be home to Crepe e Croissant. the girl actually told me that it's the same owners who fancied changing it up a bit. The menu is very American as the name of the place would suggest, with big meat and pultry packed options on bread, bagels, ciabattas and baps! They still make pancake stacks and crepes too (from scratch!) which you can have smothered in maple syrup or hershey's chocolate and various other sweety treats. Salad is not in abundance at Nic's. So anyway, first day I went, I ordered the 'Manwich'. This is a lot more hetero than it sounds. Roast chicken, honey ham, pastrami, monty jack cheese and bbq sauce, toasted on ciabatta. Grabbed a lentil soup and Hershey bar too for good measure! The Manwich is amazing, even though I felt like my gut was about to rupture by the end of it. The second day, I grabbed a chilli dog. A chilli cheese dog covered in beef chilli and cheese. Fairly self explanatory. Awesome. I also grabbed a cherry coke and peanut butter cups. Again, if you are on a diet, jog on or enter and accept you will forever be a fatty...like me. The staff were super friendly. They are still getting the hang of some of the options on the board but were happy to recommend the stuff they'd tried already. One of the girls even let me try the fresh pulled pork (which goes in the Heart Stopper) and dear lord, it was gooooood. I went in here a few weeks back and, while the staff were friendly, I was given the impression that my club sandwich was made by someone who had never actually tried a club sandwich. What I ended up with was a bland chicken and fried egg sandwich, the chicken definitely not "freshly roasted" as advertised. Seems like a bit of a bandwagon jumper for the current Glasgow obsession with American junk food but, unlike some of the other recently opened venues, lacking any understanding of the cuisine in question. Been meaning to get here for a while so when Clare S and I were looking for a quick bite to eat, the lure of the hotdog proved too strong!! For me it was a BBQ Dog, for Clare a Bacon and Cheese Dog (these are not what they are called on the menu, I'll let you discover the names yourselves!). Mine was tasty, although they haven't solved the 'how to pile loads of toppings on a hotdog without it being messy to eat' problem, with a nice rich BBQ sauce covering pickles and fried onions, all perched on a grilled hotdog in a perfectly soft hotdog roll. It disappeared pretty quickly, and mostly into my mouth too, bonus!! The range of options is good, as well as hotdogs they do crepes, baked potatoes, filled rolls and more, with plenty of choice and loads of toppings it's definitely somewhere to go back to! Ohh and they do donuts. We picked up three to go (one for Kirsty B!) and ohhhh they are good! Light and fluffy with delicious toppings, mine with a nice big fluffy marshmallow wedged in the middle of it for extra sugar loading (shut up, it's a thing! If runners can 'carb load' why can't I 'sugar load'??!). I'd happily go back, the prices aren't too bad, the staff friendly and with an extensive menu it's the type of place that makes me wish I still worked in the city centre... although on the flip side I am trying to LOSE weight so maybe not! I stumbled in here one afternoon, fresh from trying my new Subway card - looking for something new and intriguing, and here I found it. I'm a picky eater. Some would say weird, some would say just flat out boring. I don't like most veg. Salad has no place on burgers or sandwiches. Fish? Go swim! I like stuff, though. And pulled pork, thanks to my discovering Man Vs. Food one weekend, is definitely stuff that I like. I'd previously only had pulled pork inside a burrito in some Mexican joints. It's served in sandwiches here. Being dull and boring, initially I just had two slices of white bread, with pulled pork and cheese - just to get a feel for the pork. And holy moley, it's good. It's DAMN good. It's sweet, it's filling, it's smokey... I can't wait to try it with other stuff, which I will. I've had the chilli cheese dog from here too. As people will testify, there's no graceful way to eat one of these bad boys, no matter where it's from - and the precious few tables and seats here may cause a problem with that. Do you want to be wandering round St Enoch Square with a faceful of chilli and hot dog? Other than that, it's quick service, friendly, cheerful and just nice. It's nice. It's really nice. I'm thinking, given it's proximity to Glasgow Central, it would be a great place to grab a train snack next time you go on a journey. Give it a go! read more

We found this place on Yelp...it has been book marked for a while. What an amazing wee place. The choice of food was almost too much. A huge range of sandwiches on almost any type of bread you can think of. Taco bowls, hot dogs. I had the LA Lite which was chicken, bacon, avocado and light mayo. I had it on ciabatta which was lightly toasted. Massive amount of filling and super fresh and tasty. I had major food envy tho! My boyfriend had a pulled pork taco bowl and it was FAB! I can't wait to go back and try that all to myself. Special mention goes to the super friendly staff. It is next to a pub and sometimes the pub goers sit in the deli's tables after one too many shandies! This happened to us - they stole the last table! The staff went out and sorted it for us! Woo hoo! I finally got to try a donut, it was fab! I was starting to get a bit worried that I had built them up in my mind but it was goooooood! Prices start at £1.49 and the more you buy the lower the price per donut. They also have karma donuts and if you buy one of these the price of the whole donut goes into the charity tin. They randomly pop wee karma cat edible stickers on all the different varieties. I had a lemon and it was lovely and light with a delicious tangy lemon curd injected into it and a lovely almost sherbety frosting which was a delicious contrast. I bought the boy a caramel one with a. Kinder hippo on it and he said it was delicious... There was no way he was letting me near, I almost lost a finger! So I just had to take his word for it :-) I took home a menu and plan to work my way through most varieties. They also do a mystery donut and ask the public to come up with Ideas and the winner gets some donuts as a prize, I like this idea it adds to the variety. I came in here for a donut and a coffee to cheer myself up. Then I saw the sandwich selection and thought I'll get a coffee, sandwich and a donut and all will be right with the world - hey I'm not really stupid enough to believe I can solve all problems with food but I'm much less of a drama queen with a full tummy. This is a take away shop, there is some outside seating but the shady side of St Enoch Square didn't really appeal to me so I was ordering to go. Choosing which sandwich I wanted took a while, thankfully it was quiet and the staff member serving me was lovely so I never felt rushed. After much deliberation I decided on a New Yorker. Only to be faced with more difficult choosing when it came to bread options. The lovely staff came to the rescue and told me that the herby focaccia was the best choice so, for once, I did what I was told. My New Yorker was amazing. Packed with pastrami, melty swiss cheese and awesome dill pickles. Without a doubt the best butty I have had in a long long time. So good in fact, that I wasn't upset that in my indecision over sandwich fillings I'd neglected to order a donut. I think that this might be the most glowing recommendation I can give a sandwich - so good you won't cry over forgotten donuts. I live in the city centre so we often get leaflets through our door about new places to go. Last week we got one for here. On spotting they did hotdogs I knew we would have to make sure we tried them. Today was that day. My brother, my husband and I are all quite fussy to some degree. So we all wanted hotdog with onion only. We ordered the foot long size too, as we are pretty hungry people! On noticing the donuts we bought one of those too. They also sell San pellegrino. We bought 3 of those too. They wrapped the food up well as we were going to be walking about 7 mind up the road and it was a bit rainy. Hotdog was just perfect. Sometimes hotdogs you buy are more like sausages. These were proper hotdogs (frankfurters?). Onions were really nice and sweet. I have been searching for a really good hotdog and up to now been unable to find one. Donut.....chocolate orange! All the donuts looked delish. It was a lovely donut. Could have been as good as Krispy Kreme. Not sure. I'd need one of each! Our only regret was only getting one donut to share instead of one each! Would recommend coming here for hotdogs and donuts. read more

To everyone in Glasgow right now campaigning for Krispy Kreme to open a store in our great City, just stop, I've found something better. I'm sure many people have discovered the wonders that lie inside Nics NYC Deli but for me, after months of wanting to go, I finally made the trip last week. These guys are becoming so popular they have actually just opened up a second store in Hope Street which has more indoor seating available, as the current location on St Enoch Square has limited space. I came in to grab lunch to go, looking for a good filling sandwich and more importantly, one of those doughnuts I had heard so much about. I was really torn between getting a sandwich or a hot dog, knowing however that I was planning on fitting in a doughnut afterwards I opted for a sandwich. I got the LA Club Lite, which included avocado, WARM bacon, WARM chicken and all the usual trimmings. There was a choice of mayo, I went for chipotle, but they included low fat and dijon mustard versions. The sandwich was served on my choice of bread, I went for the herbed focaccia, and was a satisfying and hearty lunch, yet I felt some regret. In hindsight, as much as I enjoyed my lunch, I wish I had been more adventurous, perhaps going for the pulled pork or just getting a damn hot dog - something I won't hesitate to do next time! Essentially, with so many choices, I panicked and went for a combination I knew I would like, and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it a lot, but there are a lot of other things on the menu I would love to try instead. Oh well, guess it just means I'll have to visit a lot! The sandwich prices range from around £4-5 - seems a lot I know but they are big and very filling, freshly made in front of you with hot and cold fillings. While my sandwich was being prepared I stared into the doughnut cabinet trying to figure out how to choose. In the end I went for a Terry's Chocolate Orange doughnut which I was desperate to sink my teeth into. Honestly, I didn't expect much. I knew how much I loved Krispy Kreme and how no other doughnuts usually compare, so when I had my first bite, I was genuinely surprised by how light, soft and full of flavour it was. The chocolate icing was well flavoured with orange and the doughnut just so soft - I ate the whole thing in seconds and wished I had bought more than one. I mean look at it, it looks great, doesn't it? It tasted even better. The price is pretty much on par with Krispy Kreme, with a dozen of the deli doughnuts costing around £12. The plus here is that they also offer a half dozen for £6.99 - a price I would be more than willing to pay. They come in an amazing array of flavours and are topped with treats like Kinder Happy Hippos, Ferrero Rocher and Chocolate Orange segments. So stop fussing about the fact that Edinburgh has a Krispy Kreme shop and we don't - who needs one when Nics doughnuts are twice as good with a hell of a lot more choice?! It's a no brainer - get your butt to Nics NYC Deli...NOW! read more

Nipped in here today to get my lunch as havent actually been here in a while, through no fault of the shop. Just many options in the city for lunch! Remembered why I rave about it to everyone. I got the LA Club on foccacia bread and it was filled to the gunnels! Chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce and chipotle mayo. Cannae beat it! The staff are super friendly and always make sure you are being served and are there to help you choose from their menu. I struggle sometimes as everything sounds so good. They are also one of the few places I have seen sell Fentimans juice. The rose lemonade is to die for. I do wish they had a place inside where you could sit and enjoy your lunch. They do have seating outside but with the Scottish weather its touch and go whether you can sit out there! I highly recommend a visit and while you are there be sure to try one (or maybe even a few) of their homemade doughnuts. Oh and the pancake stacks too!! read more

Nipped in here for a takeaway lunch this afternoon. Good selection of American themed sandwiches and hot dogs and the donuts looked pretty good too. I had the toasted bagel with chicken, bacon, avocado and chipotle mayo. The bagel could have been toasted a bit more, it was packed but this along with the soft bagel made it so hard to eat, creating a mighty mess all over my lap. Didn't really taste the chipotle which was a shame as I love it. Overall some great ideas, but better ingredients and better execution would have earned Nics another star from me. To infinity and beyond! Amazing lunch take out and would 100% recommend a lunch take out if you haven't tried one already. This isn't the same old menu but different shop. They have a truly creative angle incorporating combinations I have not seen before. Opting for the Vietnamese chicken twerker, the peanut butter chicken avocado combo is to die for. Coming in at £4.50 it's worth every bite. A bit hard to find a menu online but defo worth a look in. The donuts are out of this world too!!! read more

Amazing food and doughnuts!! I usually go for the doughnuts as a treat but myself and my husband were in town for a while and we're getting peckish so we though we would go for some food. I got the heart stopper and it was amazing but! Pulled pork and a tattie scone with coleslaw there may have been something else on there but it was brilliant! Couldn't get enough of it. We opted to get the cookie doughnut sandwich for dessert but couldn't manage it so took it home for later. It was worth the wait! Something different a gluttonously good!! Charming place tucked away in St. Enoch's square. Reasonable prices and they do authentic hot dogs. Finally settled on rich and delicate pulled pork on a chilli cheese dog. Quick service and the staff were lovely. We'll be back to try the other combinations we can think of! read more
