This little take away lunch spot popped up late last year on St. Enoch square and immediately…read morepiqued my interest. As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...

However I order a medium rare steak which hadn't been left to rest and it had bled all over the plate, this wasn't very pleasant, upon complaining I was offered free drinks, as I said the customer service was brilliant but the issue with the steak was a let down.

This used to be The Living Room but that closed down recently to get refurbed into the S&L (part of the same group) and it opened on Monday 20 April. I popped in for an afternoon visit to check the place out. As I mentioned, it's been refurbed from the Living Room but the layout is still the same - large bar area and separate dining area. I asked for a refreshing drink and the barman asked a few questions to narrow down what I wanted - he was clearly the manager and knew his stuff although when he whether I wanted my non-alcoholic cocktail to contain Red Bull I did had to laugh - really?! I took a seat while they prepared my drink. There's some nice window seats so you can gaze along St Vincent St which is nice and generally, this place has a good seating arrangement if you were heading here for drinks on a date or with friends. I could hear the manager training the staff while I was sitting there so obviously they're still sorting that part of it out. That being said, my drink was perfect when it arrived - a virgin apple mojito, very refreshing on a warm Glasgow day. The drinks menu is comprehensive and has a wide range - although there's some really odd offerings in there. Peanut butter & jelly martini (with actual PB in it), Blue WKD and Red Bull & vodka aren't drinks you see at most bars. They also offer a cocktail tree with 9 cocktails on it - perfect if you're with a group (you all have to get the same cocktail but it is just over £40 which is good value for money). Draught beer includes Peroni, Estrella Dram, Longhorn IPA, Schiehallion, Amstel and St Mungo. I had a brief look at the food menu but it was a bit less interesting than the drinks menu and nothing really grabbed my attention, apart from the burger on there at a whopping £14.95. I mean, Glasgow loves burgers but that is probably the most expensive one I've seen so far (granted, it does have a beef patty, chicken fillet and pulled pork on it) With 50% off food on a Monday, half price cocktails on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 2-4-1 desserts every day (plus lots of other promotions) this is the kind of place to go if you're looking for a good deal. It'll be interesting to see what this place is like on a weekend/in the evening as I imagine it'll be popular for post-work drinks.

The chilli cheese dog was unfortunate - the "chilli" was just a small layer of dry ground beef underneath the hot dog. I asked if they had mustard or pickle relish because it had no flavor. They brought me a bowl with packets of brown sauce and English mustard, and someone went and found Sriracha (which I like, but had not mentioned or thought of - but I think they just got confused at the word "relish"). Maybe the other food is better, but how can you screw up such a basic thing? It was the driest chilli cheese dog of my life.

Nic's made my daughter a box of beautifully decorated donuts for her birthday that she was able to pick up on her way to class the morning of her birthday. The staff at Nic's were super helpful and even allowed my daughter to pick up the surprise baked goods at 9:15 when they only opened at 10 AM. And she reported that they were delicious! I'm a massive fan (see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic's is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It's so great that the Nic's concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic's NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings - like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies (which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes (sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There's always the worry that another branch won't quite have the same feel as the one you're used to, but I'm happy to report that this definitely isn't the case with this one. I absolutely adore the decor, it's really cool without looking like it's trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn't tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn't had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they've just opened! Result!! I've got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it's lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon... What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too - I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It's extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic's I can just pop along and get one...the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!
