We only were in Glasgow for 1,5 days and were fortunate to discover this place for our first breakfast in the area. Even though we never visit the same place twice while traveling so we could experience more, we actually ended up coming back to Singl-End Garnethill the next morning, which says a lot. If we lived in Glasgow, I can imagine us coming here on a regular basis. One of the best breakfasts we've ever had, super nice staff, a cozy and lovely interior, reasonable prices, and a display of desserts that you can't possibly ignore! The cherry on top is that it's a dog-friendly cafe, and while we were away from our dog during vacation, it was nice to see other people with dogs that came in.

Meaty breakfast

Food was wonderful. My first full Scottish breakfast. Service was attentive and delightful. There looks to be something on the menu for most everyone. If you're in the area you should definitely check it out.

Food came out quickly and was tasty! Service was delightful. Dog friendly with lots of cute dog pictures around the restaurant. Good vibes all around.

If you're feeling like brunch, or if you're a tad hungover, this is the place to go. I've only ever tried their breakfasts and cakes but I'm a huge fan. Their meaty breakfast is brilliant but their veggie breakfast is so so good, I could eat a plateful of that haggis alone. Their selection of cakes is incredible so definitely have one for dessert (or take one home).

Wow. This is one of my absolute favourite new finds in Glasgow. As soon as I walked in I genuinely thought 'Yup. I will definitely be back'. First off as soon as you walk in you're greeted with a selection of fresh breads. Have I died and gone to heaven?! A place where you can choose what kind of bread you want with your meal!!!!!!!!! Soda bread is my all time favourite bread, reminding me of childhood trips to Donegal & Singl-End make one of the best I've ever tried. Can also vouch for the sweet potato and almond bread which is a sweet alternative. Ok so you've seen the bread. You then turn round to go into the restaurant and BAM. Cake Table. The variety on offer is just incredible. Got your classics of caramel shortcake etc then goodies such as peanut butter & jam muffins. Lots of them are gluten free & vegan too if that's you're kinda thang. The venue itself is just incredible. Set underneath a tenement block at Charing Cross it has really kept to its Glasgow roots. Glass tables have inserts of old postcards, letters & photos detailing the types of trips my Granny always goes on about. And I do love a good bathroom... Singl-End has one of the best I've seen. The sinks are made of old Singer sewing tables with exposed copper pipes. The menu itself provides something different & it's the all day breakfasts that win hands down. I've tried a few of the dishes now and my favourite hands down is the meaty spicy baked eggs. Such a tasty mix of tomatoes, chilli, beans & pork & fennel sausages, it's perfect for any time of day! Have also sampled some of their daily specials too which never fail to impress. On the day we visited we had prawns, chorizo & tomatoes as well as a goats cheese & spinach omelette. The food is fresh and tasty and the staff are clearly passionate about what they do. I'm forever trying to suss out when I can next get into there! Everyone I've taken so far has always fallen in love with it too, which means more visits for me!!

Polenta sweet potato chips

I teeter here again at 4 and a half: the staff are always pleasant and helpful, vegan cake selection is great, they offer two types of non-dairy milk (soya and almond), and do have marked vegan savoury options, but there is still a bit of awkwardness having to ask for adaptations and last time I had an open sandwich which didn't seem much for the price. For vegans I would definitely recommend for coffee & a cake, or soup and bread, but would be less likely to go for a meal. They had two salads and I had to ask which were vegan (one was), the cake I asked for initially they didn't have as the table menus hadn't been updated, and I had to ask for the creme freche (not mentioned on the menu) that arrived with the sweet potato chips to be swapped for a non-dairy sauce. None of these things were a big deal and staff were very accommodating, I think the menu design made it a bit more difficult to decide what to have as well. Neither of the soups were marked as veggie or vegan, and the polenta sweet potato chips could easily be vegan but weren't marked so because of the dip. It was an enjoyable brunch - out with other Yelpers as part of brunch club - and for the service and cakes I'm happy to bump up to 5, but would prefer to have an easier to read menu.

Veggie breakfast with added avocado
Briony C.

Brunch! Is it the best meal of the day? I'm going to say yes, yes it is. There isn't many meals I love more than brunch and I am always excited about trying somewhere new for brunch when Brunch Club comes around. I was glad that Singl-end were able to take a booking for our large group (I did need to leave a £5pp deposit on card which they gave back to me in cash on the day) and I thought they handled a large group really well. There's always a bit of back-and-forth with drinks/food orders but all the staff looking after our table were really friendly, calm and competent which was great! The brunch menu is all kinds of amazing. I was struggling to decide and that's before I looked at the specials board. I stuck with the usual brunch menu and got the veggie breakfast with avocado. The veggie breakfast comes with eggs your way (poached, obviously), roast sweet potato, mushroom, roasted cherry tomatoes, home-baked beans and spinach, and a slice of toasted bread from the bread menu. Yes, BREAD MENU. This place has a bread menu. And don't stress if you're gluten free as they have tonnes of options for you. Yesterday's selection included brown Hovis, sourdough, seeded, nut-olive, rosemary focaccia, sweet potato and almond, banana pecan and scones. Woah. What a whopper bread menu. I had sweet potato and almond. So how was the food? Well, the fact I managed to steal two of Graeme's eggs meant I had a full-to-bursting plate of veggies with 4 eggs and the sweet potato almond bread, but I was up for the challenge. Of all the veggie breakfasts I've had in my years, I think this was my favourite purely because it was so VEGGIE. Everything was cooked perfectly and I loved the roast sweet potato for something different. Even the beans were good, and I hate beans. The avocado was amazing and had chili through it, I was so glad I got it as extra. I have to agree with Gordon who said the sweet potato bread was probably a little too sweet for a breakfast food but I still really liked it. I also decided to try a smoothie even though I know milk/milk-type things can make me feel sick. Their smoothies are made with coconut milk and I actually didn't feel sick from it, so that was a win. I had the green smoothie with apple, avocado, cucumber, spinach, mint, lime and coconut milk. I liked how it was presented in a Jeremiah Weed jar and for £4 not bad value as it was really large. I'd definitely have one again and apparently the added option of oats is totally worth it. We got some cakes to take away (yeh, I know, I'd eaten a LOT already) and loved the passionfruit vegan one. The cake table is epic and there was a lot of Yelpers drooling near it (not on it) during the brunch. I loved Singl-end. This place is great. So great in fact that I'm going back today for lunch. Notes: the rest of the place was medium-busy on a Sunday so I reckon you could easily rock up and get a table without too much stress.

Super Nice atmosphere, very local and hyggeligt (said in Danish tradition). We had the falafel and smoked salmon and were truly delighted by the dishes! They were perfectly sized and they were not cheap with the salmon! Super lovely experience -the Danes

My boyfriend and I were saying recently how we just wanted to go somewhere and get a decent sandwich that's not too far from the city centre. After hearing about Singl-end, we decided to go one day for brunch. The entrance is down a set of steps but it's well signed. Before I stepped in, my eyes lit up at the table of cakes I could see through the window. Inside, the decor is quite cool. We sat at a picnic style table that had old stamps and hymn verses on it. As soon as we were in, a waitress was ready to show us to a seat which I liked because I hate that awkward standing around when everyone's busy. The service was super friendly and I never felt rushed at all. I went for scrambled eggs on rosemary focaccia and my boyfriend went for the steak sandwich with soda bread. I love bread and so a place where we can choose a variety, is a winner in my eyes. Although what I had looked quite small, it filled me up and I then had a salted caramel brownie (recommended by the waitress). Outside, they have a little seating area which would be nice to sit out on a sunny day. Service was fab, food was yummy, they serve lovely cakes and they do proper sandwiches - win win!

Eggs Benediction!!

Holy mother! I've just eaten double my body weight at Singl-end, and I have no qualms in being that overly keen gal on a first date who immediately tells all her pals: I am head over heels in love! I actually popped in here with a friend for brunch on a day trip to Glasgow. Upon getting the menu, you also get a list of the freshly baked breads to choose from to go with your meal. Now, I'm not talking about boring ole Hovis & Kingsmill, it's all ridiculously amazing artisan combos all made in house, ranging from classic safes like Sourdough to Sweet Potato & almond combos. I ordered the latter with Eggs Benedict, which made me giddy when it arrived as its served on a tower of sweet potato, spinach and red onion jam with a gauc and hollandaise sauce on top. It was insanely good, and it's gotta be one of the best brunches I've had in the UK. Plus the portion size was awesome, as much as I would have liked to order more things to try, but my body literally wouldn't allow for it :( Having said that, they had such a great selection of baked in house cakes that we didn't want to miss out on, so we left, walked off our full bellies, AND CAME BACK IN FOR DESSERT. Like not even 2 hours later!! If that's not going to sway you on this place you clearly have no soul. Baby bundt cakes, pb&j cake, sticky cinnamon buns, brownies and traybakes that look as taste as good as they look and are really well priced too. I love that they have veggi, vegan & gluten free options across all menus, so it's a great place to bring your nut allergy friend or that pal who's always on some weird new diet but misses eating nice food ;) They have Papercup coffee, a great tea selection and a list of juices to boot, lovely staff and the options of sitting on sofas or eating at a table. Nice casual atmosphere with quirky decor too. I literally have no complaints, but one piece of advice: come hungry!!

Caramel shortcake SO MUCH SUGAR!!!
Gordon M.

Here for brunch club - because brunch is the best meal of any day - and I was intrigued to get to Singl-end. Having read the reviews I was looking forward to this a lot! First impressions, it's a lot bigger inside than you think, and it's laid out and decorated in a shabby chic kinda way which is nice if not that original. We had a couple of tables booked - there were 20 people at this brunch club - and hats off to the staff who never kept us waiting and got all the orders to us in good time! I ordered the Singl-End Eggs Benedict - which, as Debs pointed out, wasn't actually 'Benedict' as there wasn't any ham - Poached egg on slices of roast sweet potato with spinach and red onion topped with cashew and tarragon hollandaise sauce, I choose a sweet potato and almond bread to go with it. I'd had a couple of cappuccinos before my food arrived, the coffee is good but nothing special, and when my food arrived it looked great. Presentation across most of the plates looked good, rather than the 'throw it on the plate' approach that some places take with a brunch. The eggs were a little overcooked for my liking, but overall the dish was nice. However without the ham it was all just a little bland and overly sweet. The 'hollandaise' (which wasn't hollandaise) had a sweet aftertaste which, when you added the sweet potato and fried red onion, just made the dish unbalanced. By the end, whilst I ate everything, it was obvious that it needed something with a bit more punch, a bit more savoury/saltiness I think to balance out everything else which was all very similar in taste and texture, even the addition of some crispy bacon would've made this much better! Add in the slice of bread, which was more like a cake loaf, and I was underwhelmed. It's clear the skills are there, I just think the dish itself needs rethought. Undeterred by the barrage of sweetness, I also had a slice of caramel shortcake which was heavy on the chocolate and caramel, with the solid base the saving grace I think. So perhaps it was my choice of dish - although I don't like fennel, so the sausages weren't an option - but I'm not sure I'd hurry back.

Open faced beet hummus sandwich on sweet potato
Gab G.

If I lived here, I would frequent this cafe, no doubt. I tried the famed sweet potato bread in the form of an open-faced beet hummus sandwich, and I was not disappointed. It was super delicious and involved tons of roasted veggies - exactly what I needed after several days of fried food and whatnot. Decent service. I would say the ambience is a little stark due to the basement setting, but the food is so good that I didn't really care.

Singl-end is a hidden treasure, located just behind Sauchiehall Street on Renfrew Street. Once you enter this basement coffee shop come restaurant it's hard not to be immediately enchanted by the large bo-ho style space. I loved the cool young funky vibe here, the cool decor and the huge tables of cakes that you have to walk by as soon as you walk in. It's a little slice of chilled out heaven on a Sunday morning and I could imagine losing the whole day here just hanging out. I had decided before I even got out of bed that I was going to have the baked spicy eggs, there was just no way I could resist this dish. Described as Eggs oven baked in a casserole of homemade pork and fennel sausage, cannellini beans, tomato and chilli served with bread. The dish was absolutely lovely. The eggs were perfectly cooked and runny once the yolk was burst (yum!) There were 3 big chunks of the fennel sausage which was gorgeously meaty, and the bean and tomato sauce was packed with tangy flavour - although I wouldn't exactly have called it spicy. It was still an incredibly well put together dish which was probably big enough for two. My only gripe with the dish was that I had to leave my toasted sour dough because it was far too crunchy and hard for me, which I really dislike. After looking at the cakes for about 10 minutes I finally decided on a cinnamon bun. The bun was doughy but still managed to be light and was full of tasty cinnamon and packed with chopped pecans which I love.... The more pecans the better I think - infact you could say I am nuts for them (oh the banter! ) Including a few lattes & a smoothie my bill came to about £18 I think which I was more than happy with. The standard of the food was excellent and there was so much of it that it's hard to find fault with the cost. Singl-end is a gorgeous hip cafe doing some really lovely tasty dishes which you can tell a lot of thought has gone into. Would definitely recommend this spot.... I'll be back for sure.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

I visited for afternoon tea with Donald M but I'd just eaten, so I only fancied a tea rather than anything to eat.
