I love singl-end because the food is so healthy but delicious at the same time. I really enjoyed the haddock quiche that I ate last time I was there. I recommend the cardamon muffin with lots of pink icing on top. I think the tables are very interesting because underneath the glass surface that you put your food on there are lots of stamps from around the world. If you are a vegetarian then singl-end is a good place to eat at because they put mainly fish,vegetables and fruit in the meals that they serve. If you are a fan of eating outside then there's a range of tables on the outside deck (you are allowed to smoke at these tables) and one table underneath the steps just outside the entrance (you are not allowed to smoke at this table). I was so glad to hear that Singl-end were reopening as I'd heard lots of good things about it. My first visit couldn't have been better. Escaping from a cold January day I found the place really cosy, full of character and serving up outstanding food. It's a large restaurant but it's been divided up in such a way that it feels snug and homey. There's a dining area then other sections with huge leather chairs and sofas to relax on while you have coffee and cake. They had lots of great options on the menu with soups, sandwiches and main courses as well as cooked breakfasts. Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for as well as people who want to avoid gluten or opt for something healthy. I was looking for something hearty and comforting though! I couldn't choose between the haddock and leek omelette and the steak sandwich so I opted for the "meaty" cooked breakfast. And wow, I think it's the best I've ever had. Perfectly done scrambled eggs with chives, homemade baked beans, lots of smoked bacon, homemade sausages with chili and fennel plus a giant mushroom with tasty cherry tomatoes. They also have a table of baked goods with brownies, cupcakes, scones and other delights. I chose a Jaffa cake, an orange sponge with dark chocolate covering. I had this to takeaway and handily they have little boxes for the cakes. It was really good, the sponge was moist and had an amazing strong orange flavour and the chocolate icing was delicious. Went there after a nightshift, so likely in my grumpiest mood and this place REVIVED ME. Orange juice, coffee, and veggie baked eggs with truly life-giving properties as well as really friendly staff who know their stuff. And the gauntlet of bread and cake that you run on the way in - I want to eat it all! I would probably share a portion of the baked eggs next time as they were GIANT but there will 100% be a next time. Been trying to try Singl-End for AGES so where better for my first post-baby review!! Getting out the door early bells with a newborn is hard enough but when most places stop breakfast at 11/11.30, my favourite meal of the day has been somewhat lacking! Thank god Singl-End do breakfast all day! Off the beaten track, a Singl-End is a little hidden gem in Garnethill. Inside is eclectic and a kind of warehousey looking with corrogated steel decor and plain stonewashed floors. They have lovely tables with different stamps etc under the glass and with the checkered tablecloth on the table FULL of cakes and homemade bread it kinda reminds me of somewhere on holiday ! I went for the Veggie breakfast & added bacon, my body is craving veggies for some reason! The homemade beans were delicious, the poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the accompanying sweet potatoes, spinach and onion all just made such a delicious plate which I totally devoured. I scooped everything up with the gorgeous homemade sourdough and generous portion of salty butter. Washed down with a really well made latte it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a really long time. Martyn had the Spicy baked eggs which were the same homemade beans I had in my breakfast with homemade fennel sausage and eggs on top with more of that chewy sourdough. I thought they were really tasty but the fennel in the sausage was quite strong and overpowering. We took home a couple of Gluten free cakes - Peanut butter and Jelly and a Jaffa cake both of which were delicious and I couldn't believe they were GF! It is quite pricy in here but I think it's worth it for the quality of food and it's stuff you just can't get anywhere else. I've already planned my next trip! A must try! read more

Jordan and I joined other elite yelpers for the monthly brunch club! Location: We walked here from the Maryhill area and it was not too far off of St. Georges. If we hadn't been looking for this place with the assistance of Google maps, we probably would have walked right passed it. The building is located in a very residential area and is down the stairs, so below street level. Thank goodness they have tons of windows! Atmosphere / ambiance / decor: Walking in you instantly see a plethora of fresh baked goods and the chefs dilligently working on the line. It's hard not to stop and look at everything they are offering for the day. Like I mentioned before, there are ample windows and both indoor and outdoor seating. Our group had reserved the back half of the restaurant and it was great! Lots of seating, places to put coats / prams, etc. There were quite a few dogs in the restaurant which is so nice to see! The decor on the walls is all authentic to Glasgow and they even sell some of it (posters, magnets, cups). I also recommend scoping out the bathrooms while you're there. The detail and design is top notch. Those sinks are to die for! I want them in my next home!! Service: Our large group seemed to be a challenge for the servers. Beverages were brought out to the wrong tables, entrees were auctioned off, and figure out which check belong to which group at the end was confusing. When we asked about the specialities of the day our server didn't know and needed to go get a chalkboard of items and handed that to us. Not a huge deal but definitely not the best service to date. Food & Beverage: I ordered the meaty breakfast, pineapple & mango smoothies, and a glass of orange juice. I thoroughly enjoyed my selection. It was filling, everything was cooked to order, and the sweet potato almond bread was the perfect addition. The orange juice was not fresh squeeze but luckily the smoothie saved the day! The smoothie was aaaaaaaamazing probably my favorite thing we ordered. Jordan ordered "The Godfather" Sandwich. It's this maaaaaaassive sandwich that is pre-made, sitting on display when you walk in, that they cut a piece of and serve to you with a side of veggie salad. The thing looked mouthwatering good, but unfortunately that's where the positives end. It was so large that Jordan had to cut it up into 6 pieces to even get it to fit in his mouth. Next, the meat to toppings ratio was way off aka not enough meat compared to everything else. It was quite dry and the more that Jordan thought about it, the more it grossed him out that it had just been sitting there on display. He said that only good thing about it was the grilled mozzarella. The veggie salad was an odd assortment of veggies (carrots, corn, zucchini, tomatoes, etc) all mixed together, served room temperature with a housemade seasoning on it. The vegetables didn't compliment each other very well and it was average at best. Before heading out we got takeaway baked goods - carrot cake, orange chocolate mini cake, and a lemon & thyme cookie. All of these items were fabulous! Prices: It's not a cheap place. My meaty breakfast, orange juice, smoothie, Jordan's sandwich, and a latte, along with our three takeaway desserts was £32. That seems like quite a bit for breakfast / brunch. Overall I enjoyed it but Jordan's experience was dismal. Despite living in Glasgow for thirty something years I had never travelled up this far in Renfrew street before. Sitting amongst all the gorgeous buildings is Singl-end. Two things strike you when you walk through the door. The stunning almost homely feel of the place, and the cakes. MY GOD, THE CAKES! Sitting down at a gorgeous glass top table with old postcards, cigarette cards, and stamps under the glass and the worlds sturdiest chair my eyes lit up with the bread selection attached to the front of the menu. So many choices of bread, and all making my mouth water. Sadly the rest of the menu didn't make my mouth water so much. Nothing really stood out. Despite this I went for the Welsh Rarebit with ham and leek. While it never really stood out on the menu it certainly stood out on my plate. Expecting a thin slice of ham under the cheese, I was shocked with delight to see a huge slab. Another thing that stood out for me was the coffee. The latte was one of the best I've had in Glasgow. The staff were brilliant. As someone who regularly suffers from food allergies it was refreshing to see the staff go out of their way to offer modifications, changes, and off menu dishes for another in our party with special dietary requirements. This alone convinced me I'd be coming back. Now to the cakes. I'm surprised they didn't have a "caution wet floor" sign beside the from the amount of drooling people were doing looking at them. Singl-End is without a doubt my new favour place in town for a lazy brunch. From the initial nosey down the steps, through the twinkling fairy lights it depicts a cosy, friendly atmosphere and hopefully once summer is upon us (hahah!!) I can enjoy in the small but perfectly formed outside space. This place has a great atmosphere, I love feeling that I can easily sit there for hours. The docor is eclectic and welcoming, FYI I love the toilets!!! Upon entering Im always mesmerised by the bread and cake table....The Cakes!!!!I love that you can see into the kitchen and see all the food on offer. So I have to confess on all visits Iv made to Singl-end Iv always ordered the same meal. This is not because I don't fancy anything on offer but purely because the spicy baked eggs are sooooooo good! I could happily eat this every day for life. The home made baked beans and the homemade fennel sausage are out of this world. I have sampled other folks dishes and have been pleased with them all. The roast beef sandwich is to die for, the rare beef is buttery soft and works well with the rocket and horseradish. Equally Iv also tasted Singl-ends take on another favourite, eggs benedict - again delightful. My aim is to work my way through the menu but those eggs though!!!....... Now the food portions are well worth it, but I always always make sure there is room for cake. And I have certainly not held back on trying theses. I believe the cakes change daily but to date I have had the Apple and caramel cup cake, beetroot and rose cake, scones, carrot cake, salted caramel brownie...the list goes on! The staff are by far the friendliest, welcoming and helpful I have come across. A credit to the establishment! Overall Singl-end gets a 5 star from me, my only slightest criticism (and this is not just relevant to Singl-end) is have chocolate on the coffees, Im not a fan and I always forget to ask not to have it. What a charming, ingenious idea, wonderful location and a cracking menu. Very original, really personable food which sounds odd, but you can tell that whoever planned the menu loves everything on it, and the staff have definitely tried it too. I would take my mum here definitely and anyone else I can kidnap and convince to come out for lunch, brunch, afternoon tea. The service was timely with lots of eye contact. Loved it. Finally i got to try this place! After reading so many 5 star reviews my expectations were pretty high, but i have to say this wee cafe/bakehouse did not disappoint me at all! The ambience inside is so nice and it different from any other place, i think the guys have done an amazing job! I was particularly surprised by the fact that they accept dogs inside and they give them a wee bowl of water - thumbs up! Food wise, they have an amazing selection of pastries and cakes and every single one of them looks delicious - I really struggled to choose one, but I finally went for the raspberry and pistachio one, yummy! There is also an amazing selection of breads, with vegan and gluten free options. We decided to share the spicy over baked eggs with cannellini beans, fennel pork sausages and tomato sauce - so delicious! I also had a latte and my boyfriend had a mango and cocunut smoothie. The bill came to £20 - really good value for money!   I will definetely go back very soon - I have got the whole selection of cakes to try!! read more

When on a busy Sunday Brunch for a coffee and a cake. Sat outside which is very quirky! My coffee was nice and my little cake was lovely! They have a great sweet selection to choose from. I felt the prices of some of their items where quite expensive! Especially their bakery products. My friend ordered eggs on sour dough which looked a bit thrown together and wasn't really worth the cost. I am keen to try this place out as I hear a lot of great reviews! I have been twice and both times I enjoyed the place and the food. It all seems authentic and freshly made. First time I had a salmon, avocado and salsa open sandwich which was great. I would like to try it for breakfast, I think they would be great at that. Only one negative point I would like to managers to note - we ordered two large and expensive glasses of Pinot Grigio. It came warm or not cold (OK that happens). We asked if they had any cold wine and they said yes so we asked for replacements (but smaller glasses). After consulting the boss/manager, the waitress told us they could not give us replacements as we had already tried the wine(?) - we had no choice but to tell them to take it back. She returned shortly to say we would not be charged for the wine. All a bit strange and a customer service fail but let's say something was lost in translation! read more

This cafe is a hidden gem in Garnethill. I read about the reopening of the cafe online and the fact that their entire menu was practically gluten free and I was sold! My friend explained that a single end was a tenement where the entire house would be in one room. It is clear to see the history and this place has so much character. I have to admit I struggled to choose what to have to eat as there was so much choice. Finally I opted for the Hot Smoked Salmon sandwich with beetroot, date and walnut slaw and horseradish yoghurt served on gluten free bread. I was delighted by the fact that they even offered gluten free bread but did expect it to be the usual Genius bread. The waitress arrived with my gluten free focaccia (homemade). What a treat!! It was absolutely delicious and after almost a year and half of trying various gf breads this was definitely the best. We were definitely tempted by their cakes and I went for the Pistachio and Rosewater cake which was also gf again delicious! The staff were very friendly and knowledgable and the chef even came over to ask what I thought of the bread as they had played about with the recipe for a while. This is a must for anyone looking for an exciting selection of food, excellent service and would highly recommend to anyone who is coeliac or gluten intolerant. What a great colourful place to eat. The decor is superb and they have gone to a great deal of effort to get the vibe of this place just right. The breakfast menu is spoilt with choice and after some deliberation I decided on veggie eggs which come served in a pan. Great touch and a treat for all the senses. The flavours were brilliant and throughly enjoy even if I did have to wait 5 minutes for the pan to cool. So glad to see this incarnation of Singl-end enjoying such popularity. My first attempt to visit was thwarted as it was full and we hadn't booked. Frankly it had never occurred to me to book for a bakehouse cafe. I would recommend a mid week visit when it's pleasantly busy without being packed. The menu features a comprehensive breakfast list, and lunch dishes such as steak sandwich of the day, frittata, and salads and open sandwiches. The soup and sandwich combo is a good deal. The big draw of course is the mouthwatering selection of baked goods on display as you enter. Do save some room for a slice of cake or traybake. My most recent visit was late on a Saturday afternoon and we got the last available table. The service was friendly but not I'm afraid efficient. Our drink order got lost and even once we asked about it it was a good five/ten minutes before our order of a bottle of Sol and a glass of house red arrived. The place was indeed very busy but there seemed to be plenty staff so I can't explain why taking our food order and serving us also took so long. My daughter made the interesting observation that the menu is like an inversion of mainstream menus in that most dishes are vegetarian with a couple of meaty options. Can't recommend this place enough. In quite an unusual location but worth the walk up the massive hill, I promise! I've always went during the day so can't say much for the dinner menu, but the huge selection of home baked cakes is excellent. They have a small selection of gluten free options too so nobody has to miss out. The lunch menu is great, and there is the option to choose your preferred bread to go with your open sandwich. What a fun atmosphere and a very casual place to hang out with friends, plus it's dog-friendly. They accommodated our large group of 12 and we had a very attentive waitress, who kept the drinks flowing. The menu was vegan and vegetarian friendly. They had lots of unique mains on the menu. I have been a regular visitor at Singl-end for a long time now and each time a friend visits Glasgow, it is definitely a place that I will surely bring them. However, my visit to the restaurant on the 30/12/2017 at around 11am is one I will never forget. I had just returned to Glasgow after a year of being away and had decided to bring my girlfriend to visit a restaurant I rave about time and time again to her. We were both hungry and excited that morning, however upon arriving we were greeted by your "lovely" hostess i find extremely rude and I stand by my accusation the other day when I called her a racist to which she shot back at me claiming she is a well mannered person. Sure she is..., when I watched her treating every other local with a smile and such gentle voice, but for me, god forbid it. I was fine when she wasn't very welcoming when we came in, but it was the fact that she outright disrespected my partner as if she was an animal who did not understood English that I lost my cool. We were then seated at 'Middle 1' table after waiting, if you want to check your CCTV and see who I was. I did not pursue this further as I did not want to ruin my girlfriend's experience and mood when we were there and at first I thought I would let it go but people like that get away with their behavior because no one voices out. The rest of your staff were absolute superstars and at least made up for the eating experience there afterwards. However, that particular woman should not be placed at that position or work in a customer service industry if she did not want to treat everyone who walked through that door equally read more

Can't say enough about the quality of the food here. I came here for Saturday brunch on my last weekend in Glasgow, and ended up coming here for an early dinner as well, and brunch the next day. Everything I had, from the veggie breakfast to the open-faced beetroot hummus sandwich to the veggie baked eggs, was fabulous. The scrambled eggs on the veggie breakfast were the lightest, most beautiful scrambled eggs I've ever tasted, and paired beautifully with the roasted cherry tomatoes, spinach and onion salad, portobello mushroom, and beans. But I may actually prefer the veggie baked eggs, which come with a generous serving of halloumi and is bursting with flavor. The only thing I didn't absolutely love was the focaccia bread; it was positively wet with...something, presumably oil, it would have been nice to have something slightly less soggy. Other considerations: while the food always comes quickly, it is indeed difficult sometimes to catch someone's attention when you want to collect your check and pay. Of course you can always go up to the till directly, as I did once. Also, the prices are a bit higher than standard, but as far as I'm concerned, well worth the quality of the food. And if they have their raspberry vanilla scones, make sure to try them! read more
