You forgot my fries, but I still think your awesome. First visit here yesterday for Trudie M's birthday dinner. We phoned ahead and grabbed a takeaway, so I can't really comment on the sit in experience. All I will say is its got a run down 8 mile feel to it, that is not to say its bad, just that you should not expect plush surroundings if you decide to dine in. When we got to the place the food was ready and the guy behind the counter ran through my order. Two burgers, ribs and fries. He then informed me I was also entitled to a free can. Excellent news, I paid my money and left to hurry home and eat the awesome smelling delights within the huge brown paper bag I had been given. Now for the sad times - once home. No bloody fries! I am sure you have all experienced this sadness at one point, when you get your takeaway home. Your starving and you open the bag and not everything is there. I held the tears in and decided it was to far to go back and that they were only 2 quid so there was no point in even phoning to complain. It turns out the missing fries may have been a blessing in disguise. I somewhat over estimated the amount of food I was going to be able to eat. After my 1/2 of the small ribs and my burger I was genuinely stuffed to bursting. Although I did manage to scoff a bit of T's burger when she quit 3/4's of the way through hers. I went for the 9 quid Columbia burger. It is double bacon, cheese, pit pork and slaw. It was massive and epic! the burger was sloppy and brilliant, just the way it should be. This is the type of burger that looks you in the eye and says "you can't eat me, i'm to big for you to handle". Well burger you were wrong, it took me a while but I scoffed you completely! I win!!! Believe it or not there is a "Columba II" for £2.50 extra and a "Columbia III" for an extra fiver. The one version that was MAAAAAAASIVE. So I am not sure how big the three would be, you may need to get it served in a bucket!. The definite highlight of the meal was the burger, but the ribs with BBQ were also nice, the sauce was just right and the smaller 6 quid version we got was more than enough for 3 (Rogue had some to) of us when we had burgers as well. 4 stars and not 5 on this occasion. A - You forgot the fries. Probably saved me from a food coma, but you still forgot them. B - I would like to try the sit in experience before giving you that last star. So if you like huge messy tasty burgers, this place is well worth a visit.

Columbia Burger (bacon, pulled pork, beef burger, cheese & slaw) with onion fries

I headed here with my husband after hearing about them for a long time. As an American I tried to keep my expectations realistic. We'd heard mixed reviews but most seemed to be about burgers that are now hand-made on site instead of brought in. First off they have two kinds of American rootbeer to choose from including my favourite Barqs---this made me happy. We ordered a Columbia burger, Brisket sandwich, onion fries, mac & cheese and slaw. The burger was REALLY good--topped with bacon (amazing), slaw, pit pork (so good) and cheese. The husband REALLY loved this and while the slaw made it quite wet and messy it was really good. The brisket was nice but didn't blow us away. I really liked the BBQ sauce that came with it as it wasn't artificially smoky like a lot of BBQ sauce you get in Glasgow. The mac and cheese was disappointing to me. This pregnancy I've been all about the mac and cheese and this was very white and very blah. It was more pasta in bechamel with rosemary than mac and cheese. I was expecting gooey, cheesy loveliness with a crisp top and that was not what we got at all. The slaw was fab--it's a purple slaw and not overly mayonnaise-y. It was a great contrast on the burger and nice and crisp not soggy. Again I was very disappointed withe the onion fries. Onion straws are one of my favourite things to order back in the USA--I was expecting thinly sliced bits of onion, lightly battered and deep fried so they are crunchy. What I got was basically onion pakora. The onions were thin sliced but caked in a ridiculous amount of pakora-like batter. Not appetising or what I'd imagined. Decor wise it still has far too much of the old kebab shop about it. Some darker paint, some old Meanest Man competition posters (the kind of thing that gets stapled to a telephone poll in Ohio) rather than cheesy Uni posters and they are headed for a vibe that matches their menu. Right now it's too bright and doesn't reflect what they are trying to achieve. Will I go back? Yes. Will I order what I did before? We'd definitely get a burger again but probably scrap the rest in favour for fries and maybe ribs. I did see that breakfast is coming soon so I look forward to that! I do think they are making a good effort and with a bit of tweaks could be great! I'd give 3 1/2 stars if I could :)

Order here and listen fo ya name!

Stopped by for my last meat meal prior to resolutions kicking in on the 5th January and going pescetarian, so stopped by this dive joint on my door step which had caught my eye. Looks cool and rough around the edges, and is edgy enough to fit in with other less salubrious Duke Street establishments...! Ordered The Kinney burger with pulled pork and seasoned fries while my dining partner opted for the Columbia and onion rings. Speedy service, and a sight for sore eyes... Great looking burgers and the taste is divine. The sides were also good but the seasoned fries a bit too paprika-y for me so I'll go plain next time. Onion rings were yummeh. Both burgers were well worth the money and some of the best I've tasted, certainly top 3 in Glasgow. My only tip would be to have a side plate to aid in the eating process as these are seriously huge burgers that actually need a knife and fork, plus some sauces for fries and the burgers if you so choose. I'll be bigging this place up and returning to try the veggie option. And for the root beer which they didn't have this time! More places like this in Dennistoun please!!

Smokestack burger, seasoned fries and a vanilla coke

Adding the fifth star that it so richly deserves; not just because the burgers are still fantastic, not for the incredible seasoned fries that may well be the best in the city, nor even for the lovely, delicious, creamy mac and cheese side that I got for the first time... and Briony C was right, dip the fries in it! No, the fifth star is for consistency. I'm in here a lot, as it's on the road to Celtic matches, and my son - who is a philistine that believes Subway is the finest food known to man - loves it here too. Every time I've been in, no matter how busy, the staff are always quick, courteous and offer a nice line in witty quips. The food is always uniformly excellent, every burger I've had from here has been cooked to perfection, and the fries... oh, the fries. I could build a fort out of the fries and eat my way out of it, only to rebuild it with more fries and repeat the process... Can't fault the value for money either. Less than £15 for two burgers, fries and a side? Amazing. Utterly amazing. One of the East End's finest establishments, and well worth a visit. Now, where can a man get a fort of seasoned fries to eat his way out of???

    Menu. Short but sweet

So I hear there is a BBQ joint opened in dennistoun and I kinda need to give it a go. Hidden behind an unsuspecting frontage is an even more unique interior. A chipboard counter frames their takeaway style kitchen. It is very southern USA feel to the finish. A short but sweet menu of burgers, ribs and a couple of sandwiches and selection of sides including the all important mac and cheese. Prices for the burgers start at £4 and go up to £9 for their Columbia burger, for £2 more you can grab a meal and and extra £1 for a premium American soda. I have to say the meal on the whole is in inspiring. Small and relatively flavourless burger, undercooked pre frozen fries and bland mac and cheese. My final thought is that they could do with some sort of smoker and possibly a chargrill. Chip your own fries and up the burger size and quality. Give the mac and cheese some flavor or you will be blown out of the water by the other BBQ joints in town. I can't say I'll be back as it doesn't represent very good vale for money.

I waited along time to come here. Was it worth it? Yes, definitely. "You've ordered quite a large amount of food for only 2 people" "....I know....I want to try EVERYTHING" So I did. Ribs were perfect and the depth of flavour from the rub was awesome. Fat chicken wings smothered in Richmond tangy, smoky BBQ sauce were perfect. BBQ pinto beans were deep and rich and unctuous and the Chicken burger with pulled pork was amazing. All perfectly cooked. 2 things. 1. The pulled pork on the burger was the best I have ever had. 2. Only thing stopping it getting 5 stars was the brisket, which is what I was most looking forward too. I think I was just unlucky as I got the dried nub ends and only a couple of soft slices in there - flavour wise it was spot on. Excellent Saturday lunching.

The pulled pork and seasoned French fries

I visited dennistoun bbq for a lunch work one day. On the Main Street in dennistoun with quite a non-descript front it would be easy to miss this place. It was very quiet inside and for the most part, sans booths and a jute box, reminded me of an American diner . You place your order at the front and the have to pick it up again when it's ready. The staff at the front were pleasant. The menu was simple but littered with mouthwatering options so it took us about 10 minutes to weigh thru all the options. They also have a lot of American soft drinks so that is always fun. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich and seasoned French fries. My friends ordered the chicken burger and then the Kinney. I thought my pulled pork was good but it does not come close to being the best pulled pork I've had. I thought the slaw was average and piled on a bit too heavy which at least countered the dryness of the pork. I've spent a lot of time in the land of barbecue back in the states so dennistoun barbecue was always going to be a hard sell. For me the place hasn't disappointed. It's a tasty spot for lunch and while it's not the best barbecue I've had it's definitely better than average and a real gem for being this side of the pond. And my friends had nothing but raves for their chicken burger and the Kinney so I imagine those are also great options. If you are out and about in denistoun don't miss out on grabbing yourself something from here.

I had been meaning to try this place for a while & finally got round to it yesterday. We went in and ordered a takeaway. The decor is basic but like it's meant to be as opposed to like they haven't bothered! I had a burger with onion, cheese & BBQ sauce and I enjoyed it. Thick patty, slightly under seasoned but nice. My husband got the ribs and they were excellent-fell off the bone and nice & saucy. Overall, this place is not as good as some of the places that have opened in town but the fact it's in Dennistoun has earned it a cheeky extra star (don't hate me!).

Wondering what to do with the day, my guy suggested we take a walk (even though I wanted to drive) to Dennistoun Bar-B-Que as it was a nice day and we had been wanting to try this place out for quite some time. We bundled up for the weather and headed out. We got there in no time flat (surprisingly) and walked in to what smelled like loads of hamburgers grilling and little ventilation. Not a good first impression because even though a large group ordered a load of burgers, the restaurant itself just had a smell of old grease not the yummy smokey bbq-y smell I was longing for. After standing at the counter for a few minutes, we were finally told to take a seat and order at the counter when ready. We sat towards the long bench table in the back and looked over the menu. Loads of burgers on offer, both beef and chicken, two BBQ options, sharing plates, some ribs, wings and drinks were listed. I knew exactly what I was in for: the brisket sandwich. Having grown up in Texas, I'm pretty particular about my brisket so I was really hoping this was going to be as great as I had built it up in my head. My guy ordered the pulled pork to compare it to what we make at home. Both sandwiches came with slaw and we also ordered a side of mac and cheese and a side of seasoned fries. Sigh. I wish I could give the food more than three stars, but I wasn't too impressed with what we were served. Sure the sandwiches were massively packed with enough meat to feed an army, but I wasn't excited that there was about a cup of slaw then piled on top of the sandwiches. No bother, I scraped mine off and put it to the side. The meat on both sandwiches were quite dry. The rub on the brisket was pure pepper, which, in small amounts would probably taste good but it was actually burning my mouth. There was very little sauce on the meat, which was fine by me, but the pepper was so overpowering, I couldn't finish the sandwich. My guy didn't mind finishing the rest of mine and quite enjoyed his sandwich although dry. The slaw was great, reminded me of KFC slaw from when I was a kid (probably totally different to what they might sell now) and the mac and cheese was good and the fries were good. I splurged and bought myself an A&W rootbeer as I LOVE rootbeer and wish I could find some worth drinking here. My guy stuck with a diet coke. All in all, I'm not totally sold on this place. I felt really sad leaving being homesick for good BBQ and not having that feeling satisfied here. The staff are lovely and the dining area itself is quite nice but I think I'll try something else next time we're in. Tip: Regular cans of juice £1.20, imported juice (A&W) £1.50. Well worth it for the taste of home!

A complete 5 star. When I ordered my burger it said nothing about a sauce on it, as the rest of the burgers had details of their sauce I figured mine didn't have one. Turns out it did. However I just removed the bottom bun which was totally fine. However the staff were more than happy to toast me a new bun which made up for it. I loved that you see every step of the cooking process! My partner's burger was twice as big as mine and he had to eat his with a knife and fork! 4 of us went here and all 4 were really happy with our food!

The Dennistoun Bar-B-Que was to be the venue of my very first UYE (organised with lots of steering from the wonderful Briony C!). I wouldn't say it was a complete 'disassster dahling' but had it not been for Briony C and Graeme H it would've been a pity party for one! Anyway, it's not about quantity, it's about quality ;-) As it happens, it was one of the hottest nights of the year so far. Thinking it would be fairly quiet because of this (and that it was a Wednesday) we were shocked to find it was completely stowed! Luckily, we found a table and after much deliberation went up to order. Having starved myself all day I jumped in at the deep end and ordered the Columbia...a short wait later it arrived. Jings, criven help ma boab it was huge! Literally, like the biggest burger I have ever clapped my eyes on! Graeme suggested I may need cutlery, too right I did, my gob was never fitting round that bad boy in a month of Sunday's! So in I dived...meaty burger, double bacon, pit pork, slaw and cheese...heavy on, well everything! I tried to finish it, I really did, but this burger had me beat (that has never happened before!) and at £9.50 it was an absolute steal! My only saving grace was that I'd walked up so I could walk back to burn it off, then home to vegetate on the sofa. Talking of sofas, I've discovered they deliver too! Hellllo hangover munchies!! So that was it, my first visit to the DBBQ and my first UYE! Here's a few useful pointers for other newbies to the DBBQ like me: - don't eat all day - you can't reserve a table so may need to wait - it's not huge inside so fine for small groups but not so great for larger ones - you won't regret going :-)

    Just a light bite then!

G was introduced to Dennistoun Bar-Be-Que at work. He even claimed it was better than my go to burger joint of choice, Bread Meats Bread. Spoiler alert - g, like Jon Snow, knows nothing. This isn't a posh burger joint. It looks like an old fashioned chippy, nice, clean but a definite chippy vibe. Teak panelling on the back wall, formica topped tables, old wooden school chairs and a big counter in front of a takeaway style kitchen to order at. We ordered at the counter and sat at the back of the place to people watch. Perfect spot for this with a huge variety of people coming in. From glammed up groups lining their stomachs before heading out for the night to one couple both in their jammies - classy! The food is served on a greaseproof paper lined plastic tray, yes the kind they used in your school canteen. This could make the portions look stingy. Except the portions here are muckle. The pile of seasoned fries beside my burger was frankly intimidating. Mind you, when I discovered how perfectly spicy the seasoned fries were I soon managed to get over my fear. My Granny Boab burger was served in a brioche roll - aren't they all now? What was wrong with the sesame seeded rolls, I like sesame seeds. They do say on the menu the burgers are 100% beef but a bit of seasoning wouldn't have gone amiss here. And dry, just thank goodness for the caramelised onions or I could have been doing the cream cracker challenge. It's a decent wee burger place but I was left wondering why g thought this rivalled Bread Meats Bread. It's good but not in the same league and my favourite is safe.

I have had 3 visits here over the last 6 months or so. Always busy, producing great food at the right price. Amazing burgers beef and chicken (Granny boabs my favourite so far) Great seasoned fries Hot wings that buuuuuurnnn Cool selection of drinks Ribs variable in quality. Hustle and bustle, quality tunes and friendly staff. A wee gem.

First impressions were not great, it was much smaller than we thought and the table our group was sat at was very cramped in and really close to another groups table. The staff were friendly enough though and we went on with picking our mains and sides. I had a burger and shared poutine & Mac n cheese. The food was slightly disappointing to be honest. The portions on everything were very small in size and I don't feel like we got value for money at all. The poutine was under cooked and the sauce was to runny for my taste. The Mac was ok, but it was very very plain. The burger was average, but gone in two bites. (OK Maybe three) All in the food was pretty meehhhh and a bit disappointing. As a meat eater I approve of this notion (until we have too many of them by which point the next craze will be upon us anyway). And so to Smoak, once of Pivo Pivo, now with it's own location on Royal Exchange Square. It's a small space, and we were sitting in the back where room is a little on the tight side. We had pre-ordered to avoid the lunchtime rush and so I already knew that I would be having the Dirty Harry. After being shown to our table, drinks were ordered and delivered and the food arrived promptly after that. I hadn't ordered any chips or sides with mine (in a vague effort to be healthy) so when it was placed in front of me it did look a little on the small side as it was on a plate clearly made to hold some fries (which most of my colleagues had). An odd thing to note, perhaps, but presentation is everything right? Well of course it's not. Taste is everything! The Dirty Harry - a venison hot dog, topped with BBQ pulled pork, cheese and fried onions, all served in a brioche style hot dog bun - looked pretty average when it arrived and did little to prove me wrong. The fried onions scattered on the top were more charred and crispy than fried and so small all the flavour was gone, so that was a bit of a disappointment. The first bite of the hot dog proved promising, the flavour of the venison hot dog was there, the cheese wasn't overpowering, and the little kick of sweetness from the pulled pork helped, although I'm not sure the brioche bun was the best idea, making the entire thing a little on the sweet side. However by the last few bites I was pretty underwhelmed and left with just a bun that was pretty dry, and a some of the venison hot dog, I ended up adding some ketchup just to make it easier to eat. Price wise paying just short of £10 for a pretty average hotdog and a ginger beer didn't feel like value for money. My whelmed remains undered and I don't see me hurrying back to Smoak any time soon. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that special

It was bun heavy, very dry with a funny tasting dog and the driest macaroni pasta (no sauce) topped with three triangles of plastic cheese. Now, I loooooove cheese but I cannot stand plastic cheese. Don't get me wrong, presentation looked good and I'm thankful for the chip portion but I really didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. I was super tempted to get the doughnut burger, which I may have to share by looking at Gordon M's photos. I'm not giving up on the place. I like it, to be honest not much has changed since the now past gone LUAC days. They did a cracking redecoration job so there isn't really anything that needs updated yet. So thankful for the ladies toilets being refurbished. I hated them in the Hubbards/The Wise Monkey days. It's definitely worth swinging by for, they have plenty of activities going on including their games room featuring a pool table. Keep an eye to their facebook page as their website seems to be currently down. So, whose up for the doughnut burger?

So we needed a shake up on the Paisley food scene, if you can call it a 'scene' of course. Along comes The BBQ Shack with their American, Man vs. Food inspired dishes such as Pulled Pork and Ribs. I'm personally a great lover of anything with "BBQ" in the title, I love BBQ'd foods. Ribs, chicken, chicken wings, burgers-all the kinds of things you get in TGI Friday's and the likes. So, here I am, one hungover Sunday, chapping at the bit for something greasy to eat, I decided to give The BBQ Shack a try. I'd heard some pretty grim things about people waiting up to two hours for a delivery-and it said on the JustEat confirmation that my expected delivery time wouldn't be until 22:55. But it was Sunday night. My delivery same at just after 10, half an hour after I ordered. Wonderful. I was ravenous. I had chicken wings and fries. It came to £7.50. Not bad. And I bit into it and it was absolutely HEAVENLY. It was like my mouth was having an orgasm. The chicken wings are absolutely wonderful. I have quite literally never tasted anything like it. I loved them. I started to feel myself get fuller after the fourth wing. The wings are quite big and the sauce is just genius. The fries were a bit cold and greasy, so I didn't eat many of them-but they were nice! This place gets 5/5 for the wings alone!

I've tried them multiple times since they've opened and every single time, my order has been wrong. This time instead of them sending the pulled pork sandwich like I ordered, they sent beef brisket sandwich which comes with Caroline mustard but was actually your standard yellow ballpark mustard instead of a mustard style bbq sauce. I would have accepted the brisket mess up if the brisket wasn't dry and overcooked (it's supposed to be full of flavor/melt in your mouth deliciousness!). The breaded chicken wings I ordered were also extremely over cooked, dry and had NO sauce. I keep giving this place chance after chance, the burgers are always overcooked and takes them about 15 minutes to make. A burger should be cooked in about 3-5 minutes (especially with the thin patties they use) instead I always get a cremated over onioned, wilted lettuced burger that I usually just throw away.

Buddy, Buddy, Duddy, Buddy…read more Why did we go to Duddy Buddy? With just a handful of items on the menu, one would infer expert execution from a Buddy? But, a Buddy of mine it was not. Buddy was a Duddy. The Duke with pulled pork, was not actually pulled but sliced. Language barrier much? Comprehension stunted? The fries were languishing as my frustration mounting. All in all, Mickey D's would have been fine dining by comparison ;-)

A godsend: good barbecue in Britain--the best we've found, and not just because they actually know…read morethe difference between "barbecue" and "grilled food". In case you're skeptical, they often have samples--after which, resistance is futile. I've now visited just twice and wish I could go more often. Not only does the barbecue smell alluring, look great, and taste wonderful, but Toby also said what any great pit-master should: "We're still experimenting." Oh, to be a test subject for all those experiments. Food (4.5): Excellent applewood-smoked pulled pork sandwiches (£4) made with local ingredients. Personally, I'd suggest skipping the (tasty) chili jam, which I think over-powers the smoke and pork. The ribs (a new experiment) were great--moist and tender with a good bark (no mean feat)--though I personally would've liked a little more of a smoke ring and a tad more of the delicious barbecue sauce. If Toby starts making oak- or mesquite-smoked brisket, I'll have to initiate a weekly pilgrimage to Edinburgh. People (5): Great people; great service. They know barbecue and will sell you a smoker (or maybe a pit). They're also happy to talk shop... though maybe not to divulge secret ingredients. Side note: I grew up in Texas and have a high bar for barbecue. If you're an aficionado, this probably won't be the best you've ever had, but it's very good and it's certainly the best we've had in Britain. Also, they seem to be aiming to master a range of barbecues. (Right now, it seems mostly NC-style.) It's absolutely worth a visit now, and I'd really love to see what they'll have after a couple more years of experimentation. P.S. I can't believe they keep it up through the Scottish winter. That's dedication.

I learned about this place from. You tube blogger and I thought it would be a great place to try…read more I walked down the narrow staircase and entered in. There quite a bit of tables with guests. I waited a little bit and no one showed up to greet me so I took a moment to take a small video of the dining area and front counter when I hear a lady from behind me yelling at for making my quick video. She demanded I delete the video immediately- I was still in shock that she had yelled at me in front of the other customers who are now looking at both of us. Feeling awkward I told it was just one person to eat here and she sat me down and walked away. After a few minutes, while she was gone in the back, I noticed a few other tables were either waiting to get their order out in or waiting for their food. After some time, I see her walking back to the front, I get up and let her know I changed my mind, that I don't want to eat here so she simply smiled in agreement. Not recommending this place to anyone. I hope if you decide to visit that you have a better experience than I did.
