icky house margarita

Ate at Lunas for the first time tonight with a girlfriend. We got there around 510pm and didn't get out of the place until 720pm. It was the slowest service in the world. When we walked in, there was only one other table seated and we put in our food order fairly fast. Soon after we ordered our main entrees a bunch of other tables came in to dine and there was only one waitress serving. I work in the service industry so i was feeling bad for our server, so we 100% didn't expect her coming around frequently asking about refills, more chips, etc. We waited almost an hour and a half for our food, which was just a few small al a cart items (an enchilada, 2 tacos, rice, and a chimichanga). While we were waiting we saw almost every other table that sat after us receive our food first. Our waitress eventually admitted to forgetting to put in our order and asked us if we would like a free drink each to make up for it. We were annoyed at the time but said sure and she proceeded to serve us 2 house margaritas that were so sweet and gross tasting that we each didn't take more than a few sips of. Finally when we asked for our bill, we waited probably about 15 mins for the bill and another 10 minutes for her to take our card. Then, when she ran my card an extra 20% was added onto the bill, which she stated was a "small service fee". I didn't see anything on the menu that stated that 20% would be added automatically as gratuity or a service fee, so that was bullshit. The food actually wasn't bad, but the entire service ruined the experience.

We love Luna's! The sign still says Swayz, so don't be confused. I used to do doordash deliveries, and the food always looked and smelled good. We tried with friends, and it's one of our "spots" now. They have great specials, and even have a punch card for buy 10 meals get 1 free. The chimichangas and chunked beef are favorites.

We ended up here when the place we wanted to go to was closed. The staff is really friendly, but the service is slow. They seem to be short-handed. The chips were hot and tasty! I had the shrimp enchiladas and they were quite good, very cheesy and the shrimp were big and well seasoned. The margaritas were flavorful. I was pretty satisfied, although nothing stands out as impressive.

Finally: a big Yelp FAIL ! The staff were really attentive and kind. I asked a server for a recommendation, which took her aback. Finally recommended flautas, or Enchiladas con Crema. The Enchiladas con Crema (got it with pork) had the following problems, as far as I'm concerned: it was plain, bland, mostly flavorless; the plate was like a mass of substances - - each lacking in character or quality - - assembled robotically; the melted cheese atop the enchis had the quality of half-congealed candle wax, and zero flavor; the pork was unseasoned, unimaginative; the rice looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for a long, long time. I got the impression that the kitchen wouldn't know spices if it bit them in the torta. A big pile of uninteresting, unimaginative, base quality ingredients assembled without the slightest appreciation of accent, flavor, succulence, or style. It was cheap, basic ingredients, arranged in meal-resembling form. I wished so badly that I had eaten ANYwhere else on this trip through Milwaukee. But that semi-hardened layer of virtual candle wax over the top - - that is something I will never forget. Plusses were that the staff were really kind and responsive, and the salsa was actually really, really good. In fact the salsa & chips were the only thing worth eating.

Phenomenal food as always! Went in on a really busy Wednesday night and Brittany was the only server. And she was killing it! She did a fantastic job considering she was the only waitress that evening. She recommended that I try the chipotle shrimp tacos and I'm so glad I did. They were out of this world! My friend ordered the burrito with beef inside and decided to get melted cheese on the top of it. The burritos here are so extremely large you can get at least two meals out of it.

Enchi burrito.. amazingly huge and delish.

This last time dining in, the food was the best we've had it. We ordered Mexican taco dinner and Tacos Al pastor. The steak was cooked very nicely and the salsa was really, really good! Carry out service is good, but dining service is above and beyond. Every server we've had has been fantastic, especially the woman who served us this last time on the back patio. We were the only ones back there, and she was still timely and lovely.

This is an enchilada with a red sauce. I was originally looking at the Camarones A La Diabla but decided to take what I thought would be a safer bet. The sauce had that sort of chili bitterness that I get when I make homemade chili sauce with dried chilis and keep the soaking water instead of throwing it out. The flavor was just unpleasant. I pulled some pieces of chicken out of the enchiladas and there was little sauce in the enchiladas and the chicken was just straight boiled chicken. Bland. There was very little good about the food. Bad sauce, bland chicken. The rice was perfectly fine but the beans were a little less than average. So that's it. I'm outside a large city and I've really been struggling to find good food.

Decided to go in as a last stop with a group of friends on my birthday & a member of my party was immediately met with hostility from the bartender, Kelli. I live in Chicago and was visiting for my friend's birthday. She's new to the neighborhood and wanted to try this spot out because it was close to her new house. We walk in and I'm wearing a mask, not only for myself (I'm vaccinated but also immunocompromised so I try to be as safe as possible) but also out of respect for other people and being from out of town, unsure of what the guidelines are here. Two of my friends ordered drinks before me, Kelli the bartender did not card them before serving them, but being a bartender myself, I had my ID out and ready (I'm 28) but Kelli started to challenge the validity of my ID because she couldn't tell that it was me due to the fact that I had a mask on. I provided 5 other proof of identity and recited my date of birth, address, and the driver's license number and she kept aggressively asking me to pull my mask down. I told her that I was wearing a mask for my comfortability and her reasoning was that she needed to make sure I wasn't underage because this establishment had issues recently (red flag), which shouldn't have been a problem as I had provided MULTIPLE forms of legal ID, and she had already served others in my party without carding them so she wasn't really following protocol. I asked her if she wanted my business (there were 3 people in there on a Friday night) and she eventually served me but openly was berating me in front of the 3 other guests. Clearly her issue was not about "just doing her job", again because she did not card anyone else and I readily provided what is legally required to be served, but she was upset by my mask and let her own politics interfere. Completely unacceptable service and treatment, especially considering that this industry is hurting due to the pandemic, and I was simply trying to be safe and respectful. I don't police others in what they chose to do for their comfort and safety but do what I can for myself during these uncertain times. Honestly, baffling that this behavior is acceptable in this establishment..

They were able to seat us immediately. That being said, we could see the hostess counter from where we were sitting and by 5:20 a substantial line was forming. There was also a lot of carry-out going on. I suspect that if you go on a weekend, you should expect a wait. Our server came quickly to take our food and drink order. She brought out chips and salsa. The chips were good though I found the salsa a little bit watery. We both had lime margaritas which were also tasty. After that we didn't see much of our server, but a different server brought out our food and a third server picked up our check. I had the carne asada. Everything was very tasty except the rice which I found really salty on its own. But mixed with beans and meat in a corn tortilla then it was very good. My partner had a ceviche. It thought it was OK, but he makes a ceviche at home which he mentioned was better. Although I wouldn't make a special trip just to eat here, if we need to go back to the airport, I'd be fine dining here again.
