Stopped by this spot for the first time after landing at the airport--starving and ready for a good meal. My friend's cousin recommended it, so we decided to give it a try. The place had a cozy, mom-and-pop restaurant feel, which I appreciated. The service was okay, but a nice touch was when (I think) the owner came by personally to check on us. I ordered the 3-taco dinner with Al Pastor, which came with rice and beans. The meat was flavorful and well-seasoned, making for a satisfying meal. They also served chips and salsa, which is always a welcome touch at a Mexican restaurant. The food came out quickly, which was a bonus. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd definitely stop by again to explore more of their menu. read more

June/30/2025 So, my wife, my grandma, and I were looking to go out for lunch since we live two hours away and wanted to spend some time with her. We've seen this place sitting here for a while but never went, so we decided to stop by for some lunch. We started off by getting chips and salsa brought to the table. The salsa was extremely bland, and the chips tasted stale and old. A lot of them were stuck/fried together, and the plate was filled maybe halfway. We bought it up to our server, and he said, "Yeah, I can't do anything about it. If that's how full they want to fill it, that's how full it is, and if you want more, you have to pay for more. People would just eat and eat and eat if it was free ." Myself being Latino, I've never been to an Authentic Mexican Restaurant and been charged for more chips or salsa, but hey, everywhere is different. So, we left that at that. We ordered drinks: soda, water, horchata. The waiter forgot some of the drinks and didn't bring them to the table until we bought it up to him. Over the course of our entire meal, which was a good maybe 45 min, our glasses were not filled once, and we had stacked them on the edge of the table. Mind you, the server came to the table and took a plate . Next, we started ordering our food. My wife got the 3-tostada dinner with no complaints other than the food being bland. My grandma ordered the 3-enchilada dinner with no complaints from that other than it being bland. My grandma had ordered a side of guac for $ 1.00, and they bought a tablespoon worth of guac, which is ridiculous. I ordered Luci Tampiquena. The steak platter was honestly pretty fatty all the way through. The eggs were, in my opinion, pretty undercooked. They had forgotten the tortillas as we waited for the rest of it. The employees were standing around talking to each other, and I had to bring it up once again in order to get something I ordered. I had ordered an à la carte Chile Relleno for my wife and me. They bought the plate out with a pool of grease around the entire chili with it continuously leaking , so we sent it back. They took it without issues. The bill came around. The service, food, etc., all around was not a pleasurable experience at all, so we did not end up not leaving a tip and writing a note stating the service was poor. When tipping someone at dinner, you typically look at service, food, and how they waited, and from the three of us, we didn't feel watered at all. The only time they came to the table was for a plate and the bill or if we called them over. As we were walking out the door, the owner ran outside and said, " Yeah, you guys can go ahead and not ever come back again." and proceeded to walk away and keep on talking. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food Or at that even a good service restaurant in general I lived in a highly Hispanic-populated neighborhood, with plenty of authentic REAL Mexican food, and this is far from it and far from being a spot I'd ever come back to. read more

Last month I met with a friend here for lunch. It was in her neck of the woods and wanted to try a new place to eat at. It's a not big place and with Covid restrictions still in place, there were a few booths & tables to eat at which I didn't mind. We were greeted with a friendly hostess and put our drink order in right away while I looked over the menu. We were also provided with a bag of chips and salsa as well. I'm sure these are usually presented in a basket but again with everything going on at this time I had no problem with it and totally understood. I decided to go with the steak taco plate with no onions, light cilantro, cheese on flour tortillas with a side cream and of course with rice and beans. I liked the fact that you were able to get steak and the price was still the same as getting al pastor, chicken, etc. The tacos were decent with a little bit of the hot salsa my friend requested for, but the steak was a little over seasoned to me. The beans were warm and could've been a little warmer because it wasn't long before they ended up being cold. I will say the margaritas were delicious and our waiter was super friendly just like the hostess. I thought it was a little nice surprise when me and my friend received a shot of tequila and orange slice at the end of our meal after we asked for the check. I would give it another try and maybe go with chicken tacos or maybe a chimichanga but hopefully the beans will be a little warmer the next time around. read more

My buddy was talking about getting lunch in his neighborhood and I talked him into trying a new place so we meet here, I like this place and I hoped he would like it even if it was not Botanas II his place, I like them both. We were seated promptly, seat your self and chips/salsa were on the table quickly. Two salsas were on the table, one watery and one chunky with thin crisp chips. The chunky salsa was our favorite, mild we were told but it had a little kick to it that I liked. Once again the measly 4 combo dishes didn't appeal to me the second time around so I did an al a carte plate again which worked well. I had the strawberry margarita on the rocks this time and it was ok but not one of the better ones. The service is always great with the lady greeting every table to see how we are doing. I ordered the Al Pastor chimichanga, I love the tasty Al Pastor with a ground beef enchilada/red sauce with rice/beans. The plate was served hot and looked great once again. My Al Pastor chimichanga was tasty with generous pork and cheese, I just like the Al Pastor here. The ground beef enchilada in a corn tortilla with red sauce topped with cheese was meaty also and good. The beans were good also topped with cheese. The rice was nicely cooked and I poured the chunky salsa on top and mixed the beans into the. I really like how the meals are hot and that they don't skimp on meat or cheese because it's a tasty/meaty cheesy dish that gets me in the door. The prices are Very reasonable because two meals with two margaritas and one lg soda was $27 for lunch which is not bad. What a wonderful place to be! We had a table of 13 and every single one of us was delighted with our meal choices! Food was served hot and service was so friendly, quick, and attentive. Where else could you go and have your table from ages 3 to 55 be pleased with their meals! My nephew is a weekly regular there with his family of 7 and my family came from Madison to experience LaLas for the first time! We will be meeting each other there again, and not a moment too soon. I would also like to mention that it was a Saturday night and their were other families there enjoying their meals like we had, and plenty of folks coming in for take out! Great food, great prices you can't go wrong! This is my second time visiting this establishment. And I am just as happy about it as I was the first time! Located on Layton in Cudahy it's a great little spot for a fantastic Mexican cuisine! Stop there tonight with the girls after yoga for some delicious margaritas and food! I decided to go with the chicken fajitas tonight which was phenomenal! At $12 it's an amazing price point for the amount of food that you got and it was marinated perfectly. It came out sizzling hot with a side of rice and beans however I got double rice tonight. It only comes with three tortillas which I wish it had come with at least five or so I could take the leftovers home. And a small side of guacamole accompanies the dish as well. The girls decided to go with à la cart menu items such as chimichanga, enchiladas, and tacos. If you enjoy go to Mexican food I would definitely check this place out. I read that a few former staff members of the infamous Conejito's opened their own place. I wondered if my lunch would be served on a paper plate. Alas, it was not. A basket of tortilla chips arrived soon after I sat down. It was accompanied by three salsas, a red, chunky salsa, a thin green salsa, and a very spicy and thin red salsa. I just dipped the chip in the spicy one and it made me choke a little. Although I will say that I am "soft" when it comes to my tolerance for heat. I ordered an horchata and Bistec en Salsa Verde for my lunch. First, the horchata had a good flavor to it, so LaLa's passed that test. The rice also had a nice flavor to it, but the beans had a slight unpleasant taste to them as if they were burned. Not too burned to completely ruin them, but just burned enough so that someone who knows what they SHOULD taste like would be disappointed. They were still edible. The steak was sliced thin and cut into small pieces, then enveloped in a salsa verde that had a subtle heat to it and good flavor. It is a dish I would order again. A trio of flour tortillas was included (corn tortillas were also available), but I needed just one more to finish my dish, so I switched to the tortilla chips so I could make that last tortilla last. I probably could have asked for more, but I was on a mission. Eat lunch and get back to work. LaLa (short for Alicia) was my server during a late lunch time for me. She was very friendly. Lots of "sweeties" were said. She said some too. Overall, I enjoyed my first experience and would like to go back again and see if the burned flavor in the refried beans was a fluke or just how they make them. read more

Solid, basic Mexican eats in a super friendly atmosphere. Pretty much every good review talks about the friendly staff, and how much the owner LaLa loves her customers. This is all true. Salsa is good. Tacos are tasty. Drinks are cheap and ample. You can get that at literally dozens of other places in town, so why come here? Honestly, it's a homey place where you're treated like a regular on the first visit. Dr. Kelly's tacos are amazing, and you'll probably meet Kelly herself and probably get some "medicine" or a hug from LaLa (or both!). These are the kind of places I love to support. read more

But Lala's elevates the simple things to delicious heights. First, their beans. Dios mio, los frijoles. And their rice. Both killer. Put them next to botanas or GTOs or anywhere else in a blind taste test, and they will win. I've had pridner everything on the menu, other than the mole. Pastor is fantastic, chicken is great, asada is excellent, and the price is right. Owned by a former server from Conejitos, so you know that not only do they make good food, but their margs will put you on your ass. Last time I was at GTOs, I nearly left without my foot from diabetes from a pitcher of margaritas, but no buzz. Lala knows how to fill a pitcher: with no ice. Order a large at your own risk. After my first visit, LaLa's has definitely earned a place in my mexican restaurants on rotation. $3.50 margaritas, an authentic yet varied menu, and excellent service. The salsas were the perfect amount of spicy. I ordered the Dr. Kelly's tacos (some their menu item names made me lol). The jalapeños, sour cream and avocado toppings caught my eye. They were excellent, the perfect combination atop delicious shredded beef. I wholeheartedly agree with the review stating 'LaLa's and La Casa De Alberto are now better spin-offs from Conejito's'. read more

Having just relocated to the area from Texas, I was pleased for the opportunity to try a Mexican restaurant far away from a part of the country where such restaurants are plentiful. My mother has been a regular here for years and took me here for the first time shortly after I got settled. I would give this 5 stars, but there really needs to be some repairs or replacement performed in the seating area. I understand that with the pandemic we've all been experiencing that it may not be financially possible to take care of at this time, but I was a bit put off by duct tape being used to mend booth seats. Now that that's out of the way, here's the good part. I usually order the Combination Platter #2. It's got a bit of everything I like in a platter. The chicken chimichanga is outstanding!!! It's soft enough to cut with a fork and the chicken is oh so tender. The enchilada and tostada both tasty as well with the beans and rice being a nice compliment. Glad to see chips being brought to the table in a basket again instead of the paper bag like the first time I went. Hopefully Lala won't have to resort to doing the paper bag thing again. The decor is a bit on the kitschy side but fun to look at. And if there was a running for Brett Favre's number one fan, Lala would certainly be in the mix! When you walk into the lobby, you'll be met with a glass case filled with Packers memorabilia mostly focused on Favre! BTW, you won't find a single pick of Aaron Rogers anywhere in her restaurant; she refers to him as something I can't repeat here. LOL!!! Anyway, the food is delicious and reasonably priced. Oh, and if you're expecting unlimited refills on soft drinks, you're going to be disappointed; sodas are served in cans with a glass of ice. Overall, if you don't mind the shortcomings, you'll want to make Lala's a regular stop. read more

'Twas a most deeeliteful food stop on my Sunday 20 mile bicycle ride... peaceful, homey, inviting atmosphere. .. reminds me of many small town diners... except Mexican Food specialties... Chips were warm and crunchy with a hint of seasoning and accompanied by a wonderfully chunky zippy salsa that was a perfect compliment to a Pacifico beer... I found an interesting sounding burrito on the menu.. "Srs Barilla".. it was chunks of excellently seasoned steak and pork..onions.. cilantro..chunks of avocado and a splash of sour cream rolled tightly in a large grilled burrito... it was a taste treat to be sure... The food in this place is good, I had the taco place and it was well prepared. They are similar to authentic tacos, but not the same. Yet, flavor was in point. The aspect of the restaurant seems pretty old, the seats had tape to cover the tears/holes; and flies surely were trying to dine on the same table with me. The server was nice and food was fast. Probably won't be going back because flies are disgusting and can't enjoy food thinking there's fly poop on my food.
