I love Judy's, I really do. This is not much of an update but more of a warning--the Shrimp La Diabla is no joke. I've lived in Louisiana and am not a stranger to heat (I'm not a let's eat Scorpion Peppers raw either, but I like a good back of the throat burn) but this was another level. It had me crying which has never happened before, it was so hot. For a good five minutes after eating 2 shrimp, anything that touched my tongue turned to cinder, it was that hot. I quickly admitted defeat and ordered a different shrimp dish. I left with my head hung in shame for even being so brazen as to try something called La Diabla. The sauce is red like the lava of a volcano and you can see the chili oil on the sauce. This is nothing against the chef who simply did their job. This was a grave misstep by me. I overestimated my tolerance to hot. So I leave this as a warning. If you like to drop Scotch Bonnet and Reaper sauce on your tongue for fun, this is your meal. read more

Friendly staff, good service, interesting atmosphere...ordered 3 chicken tacos on taco Tuesday at 11pm and the portion size of meat you're getting is roughly 2 tablespoons worth of chicken. Probably better off going to Belair. Beer was cold though! Tacos were bland. read more

Service was terrible didn't start with water no silverware didn't ask for id and gave us pitchers of alcohol with no question tried to take our food well we were still eating server didn't come up to us for more than a hour then added 3 extra recipes with extra orders we didn't have and made us pay for things we didn't order and added 4 dollar gratitude for the worst service ever and every Order adding to more than 20$ alone place is terrible and the food was horrible. read more

Absolutely horrible. I seriously don't think I have a good thing to say about this place. Me and my friends came to try it because why not and for one horrible service, the server knew someone in my group from classes and apparently thought she could disregard all respect. Barely brought any chips and salsa even with our group of six, then after we ordered and got our food we were never waited on again, we wanted more drinks and more chips and salsa however we had to wait a whole 45 minutes before having to go up to a server and just asking for a check at this point. Then after we asked her to spilt it up by couple she handed our group of six people seven recipes. How that is even possible beats me. We had extra food and an extra margarita on our tab, when confronting the server as out it she said, "and why would i even do that and add extra." We were all simply trying to explain how we had double of two things and she did not care at all she did not want to hear our side. After she proceeded to text my friend, "broke as bitch can't even pay for some food." I'm sorry but I have had friends here try to have a different experience from this multiple times and everytime i just hear horrible things so hopefully this helps. read more

I was eating light when we dined at Judy's. The two tacos I had were really good. The server was attentive and make sure we had a good time and enjoyed ourselves. The look of the spot reminded me of a vacation I took once to Puerto Rico. There is ample parking on the lot right outside the restaurant. They have a full bar too. read more

I ordered a steak fajita and it was delicious! The steak was seasoned to my liking. I got the jumbo margarita for $13 which was good. The service was friendly. Our waitress was very nice and made sure we were good. The ambiance was very pleasant, music was playing and the other patrons helped us celebrate my friend's birthday. read more

Food: very delicious and large portions! Got the salsa (amazing), melted cheese (not runny like queso, but huge portion and was so good), and the fajitas (another huge portion and perfectly done). Judy's on North is from the older school of North Avenue spots. It has reasonably priced and abundant food and is open late. I like these kinds of places, and I wasn't disappointed on a recent visit. I was there midafternoon on a Saturday. I was hungry so I was pleased to get chips and salsa before the meal. The salsa was nothing unusual but looked fresh. I got the mole enchiladas. The mole was a little sweet, but it was good with the rice and beans. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. The restroom was a little beaten up but clean. Great lunch or late night spot. read more

Looking for a happy hour and taco Tuesday special in the area and we landed at Judy's Cantina. We both got the $5 margarita on sale for taco Tuesday and the free chips and salsa to start. The salsa was chunky and a little smoky? We were trying to figure out what spice was in there that was a little different. We both got tacos a la carte for the taco Tuesday deal and were super impressed. We've gone to other Mexican places around town and thought this was definitely a step up from some other spots. I have been going to Judy's on North when it was still the old Jalisco. This use to be my go to spot after a night out since it opens until 3am on the weekends. Even after the ownership changed, pretty much everything remain the same. This restaurant is located on the East Side of Milwaukee; right across from the hospital so super convenient if you happen to get alcohol gastritis from one too many margaritas ... I'm kidding. But really, it's right across the street from the hospital so it's a great place to stop for lunch if you work near by. The east side is usually known to have awful parking but I found that it's fairly easy to get a good parking spot with some prayers to the parking gods. The food here is authentic and pretty for a reasonable price. My go-to is the classic combination. It usually comes with 1 taco, 1 tostada and 1 enchiladas. I often ask to sub the tostada for another enchilada or taco depending on how I feel. The tacos have a good tortilla to protein ratio which is KEY to a good taco. Other dishes I'd recommend you get is the Camerone a la diabla. It is spicy but so so delicious. I would say that I really enjoy going to this place but service can be hit or miss. Some days it is quick and you'll get your food right away but there are times when you don't get your food for 30+ minutes after you have ordered. That's the reason I docked a star. read more

I'm glad that this local business has been able to reopen after the devastating fire at their original location. And local businesses are very helpful for our tax base and the local community. I became aware of this new location only due to online comments - mostly positive. We eat out a great deal and always want to try solid and consistently pleasant (if not the ubiquitous "good?") restaurants. Okay. We tried three dishes and finished them all. I'm not a chef, so I won't cite any attempted breakdown of flavors, sauces, etc. It was pleasant food and in line with what you have to pay elsewhere. Portions were okay; not huge, but "okay." The atmosphere is slightly cavernous and the space is large, so there is an echo thing that could be a problem if there was a huge crowd in there. We were one of about eight tables, so there was plenty of space, but we were still seated at a small rickety table. That's on both "us" and the establishment, I guess. We arrived at a little after 9pm - let's say 9:30 pm on a weekend night. I think they close at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Their info online is slightly confusing or possibly needs updating. The positives have been mentioned (average to average+ food; accessible -though not cheap? - pricing; the possibility for distance from other tables, etc.). Our server (female, 20's) was very friendly and things (service-wise) started off quite well. We were greeted, seated, and she was very good at checking in and checking back. So far, so good. Actually? So far, so far so very good. Our food was mostly hot and our appetizer did come out a tad on top of the entrees, but ... Hey, nothing's perfect. The less than perfect is that another server "sort of?" / "mostly" then took over after our food was served. Not quite a "night and day" difference, but it was noticeable. And my complaints could be considered "old-fashioned." I really don't enjoy being -- or feeling like? -- I am being rushed. When servers have their hands on my table's dishes WITHOUT asking first if they remove a plate or dish, that really bugs me. And when a server removes food when half the table is still eating, what the freak is the rush when the joint doesn't close for another 90+ minutes and there are just two or three other tables remaining? I regret that our first server sort of disappeared. I get it that servers are human and need to take a break (for a variety of reasons). But let the patron, the customer know that SOMEONE ELSE may be checking in on the table or that you are stepping away from the customer's table. We started off pretty strong and ended up with a mildly sour taste in our mouths. While walking out, our original server did not check back, did not thank us for coming in, etc. Maybe I am simply too old, too old-fashioned, too living in a past that cannot or will not return. My "thing" is that it costs NOTHING to communicate and to thank the customer for spending $60 for a table of two. Not expensive but not cheap. Would I go back? Maybe. There is more original, more flavorful food out there and possibly being offered where there might be a greater sense of appreciation and a more uniform level of service. Judy's could have EASILY earned or received four stars. But inexperienced (younger?) servers may truly "profit" from better, more intensive customer training would reap great benefits for the entire organization. A solid "C+" grade. Which, sad to say?, is now standard issue for Milwaukee restaurant scene, which should remember that the term associated with this industry is "hospitality." read more

I love this restaurant, I've been coming here since it's been Judy's on North and continued to support the restaurant when they opened the taco truck. My favorite is the chorizo tacos and I absolutely love the raspberry mojitos and ofc the margaritas! The service is also amazing and the staff is very kind, the food comes out very fast and I also love the way the restaurant looks, the new restaurant is very beautiful and the outdoor seating is very very nice! Food = always bangin Service = worst I've ever had at a restaurant. Waited 20 minutes for water. There were only 5 other tables. One person in our group is allergic to tomatoes and specifically asked for no tomatoes...it came out with tomatoes. It took 30 more minutes for the food to come back out. He also passed our checks 6 times and purposely avoided our eye contact. (Except for the other server Damien who was amazing and very attentive. Some of the best Mexican food I ever had, what really sold it was the lemonade and beans they were so so delicious. Service was awesome and really quick and the guy made you feel really welcome for it basically being under the balcony of the old store on the street. One evening of Drinking at my local watering hole I discovered I was hungry( after 6 Jameson double shots I thought it would be best to grab a bite) So my friend and I pulled up to Judy's on North... I wish we would of went to McDonald's up the street because in MY opinion the whole experience was disappointing.. We was led to our table and we waited 25 mins for water.. then the Rude waitress came by and said do you know what you want because we are busy.. I assumed that because it was late and it was semi busy she could be frustrated but she is in customer service so she should been mentally prepared for busy nights. I ordered a taco dinner with ribeye as my choice of meat for my tacos.. She quickly took my order and left.. Then about 12 mins after that a gentleman served us salsa and chips but the salsa was warm and very thick like it was made with tomato paste. Then when my food came I had to ask was I serve chicken tacos.. Because my steak looked white in color.. Needless to say I paid for my food and left.. So to wrap up this review.. I spent almost 2 hours in a place that served crap salsa and steak tacos that looked like it was undercooked. I will never go there again! #period read more

Only gotten delivery from them, but I am impressed.. Good food, reasonably priced. So far the mini chimichangas are good.. The nachos stood up to delivery.. A good replacement to jaliscos for sure. And it saves me a bus trip to the Southside to jaliscos on Cesar Chavez. read more
