My last visit to Coney Island was in 1997. I was younger then, but I remember that the place felt run down and a little scary. The people, the atmosphere, the closed and burned out rides.... It was weird. I also rode the Cyclone and thought I was going to die. Fast forward to 2019, I visited again with my husband and kids. It was their first time but I was a little skeptical. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It was clean, nobody asked us for money, no scary situations, nothing was burned out or run down, it was good clean family fun. We were just there 8/2 and it was packed with tourists (like us). My kids talked me into going on the Cyclone. I gave in and went with them. Again, I thought I was going to die. But what was worse is I thought my kids were going to die too!!! That ride is something else... Literally couldn't even enjoy it I was so scared. Had ice cream at Ruby's. Went to dip our feet in the Atlantic and noticed there was LOTS of glass pieces on the beach. From the boardwalk all the way to the water we had to watch our step. I'm not going to lie - for the past few years (since I moved to NYC), I'd been wanting to go to the Luna Park, and I was excited when a date finally worked for me and my friends. Outside of the fun of riding the iconic Cyclone and a few other good rides, I was really let down. For one, uniformly across the park and service staff, no one seemed interested in doing their job. Workers would be halfway through loading a ride and then stop to go talk to a friend with a bunch of customers waiting for the ride to begin. One woman working as a janitor in the women's bathroom got irritated when someone asked politely for toilet paper in a stall that didn't have any. Everyone moved incredibly slowly. Additionally, a fair number of the rides weren't operating. Everything feels rundown and tired. Also, in case you didn't realize this like I didn't, the layout of Luna Park is very confusing. There is actually another smaller amusement park with the Ferris Wheel in separating the two halves of Luna Park. I thought our unlimited rides pass gave us access to those rides too, and they didn't. Lastly, I would definitely recommend buying your tickets before the day-of online. We got all day "above 48 inches" passes for $49 and the same passes would have been $69 in person. The points system is $1 for 1 credit, and most rides that weren't kiddie rides were 7 credits, with the Cyclone and a few others being 10 credits. I probably won't be returning here. I didn't go in expecting Disney World or Six Flags, but I thought I was going to have much more fun here. read more

I am not a fan of amusement park rides because they literally make me sick, but for those who do they have quite an array of modern rides to complement the traditional Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone rollercoaster. In fact when they shut Astroland to make room for Luna Park, I was apprehensive, but they have done an admirable job redesigning the Park. I do wonder how families afford to come here because it is quite expensive though in fairness I would guess they pay incredibly high insurance premiums. From my observations when walking through the park (the sausages are the biggest risk I choose to take), I would have to agree with several other Yelpers that the staff could and should be better trained in customer service. Coming from California, I had always heard of Coney Island. It seemed like a far off and elusive place. Little did I know that when we visited NYC, it was just an hour subway ride from where we were staying. We found a groupon for an all day wristband and were set for an afternoon of fun. The area is a little confusing because Luna Park encompasses a couple of different areas of amusement rides. There is another small area of rides that apparently isn't a part of Luna Park. Our daughter got her fill of rides and we felt we got our money's worth with the wristband. Just a note - the groupon wristband did not include all rides in the park. I think the few extreme thrill rides were not included, but that was okay. She enjoyed it plenty without those rides. read more

These weekend was overbearingly crowded. I usually come every summer to Coney Island but my heart is telling me to get a new spot for the summer. If it wasn't for the special person I had with me i would have gone to a bar somewhere around the area and got shit face like i usually do. I feel like a big kid when here, and it's still fun to go on these goofy rides. A good time for both adults and kids on a sunny weekend afternoon. Just be sure to bring a lot of cash. It's not really cheap. Get unlimited passes if possible. Eat like a pig with all the options such as sausage and peppers, candly apples, corn dogs, hot dogs, pizza, and a ton of fried junk close by. Located right on the Boardwalk so it's easy to get to. Hard to miss. Love it at night all lit up. Some cool old school type rides from back in the Grease days of Danny and Sandy, mixed in with a few newer rides. Most of the rides here seem a bit on the tamer side and better for smaller kids. If you are a Great Adventure fan you will be disappointed if you compare the two. The new Thunderbolt is a great coaster though, but way overpriced to ride. Cyclone is a classic and a must to ride at least once. Always seems crowded here. It's a NYC institution. Just beware the thug and creeper element in the area later in the evening. read more

Wow, I was surprised by how much fun I had here. A friend was visiting from out of town and she wanted to go on some rides. I last spent a lot of time in Coney Island back in the late 90's, when I was new to the city and broke. A day at the beach then was a luxury but I remember the various amusement parks being kind of run down, sketchy and very unsafe looking. With trepidation, I agreed to go to Luna Park and ended up having fun. They don't have a ton of rides, but I liked the ones I went on. The twirling helicopter ride and the electro-spin were particularly fun. Hell, I even liked the teacups. All the rider operators followed safety protocol and without fail, every employee with whom we engaged thanked us for coming and offered sincere wishes for a good day. The best part was that the bathrooms there were very clean! We got 40 credits (plus 6 extra) for $40 and between the two of us, we got to ride five rides, so that seemed okay. Also, if you rent a locker, you can use it all day. That's a deal for $10. I'm pro-Luna Park! read more

I have heard lots of weird negative stuff about Coney Island over a long time and decided to make a trip for myself. Talk about fun! What? How come I have not been here sooner. Luna Park has great rides for all of the kids. But the main reason I went is the Wonder Wheel. (The haunted house scared the kids, but I thought it was lamer-than-lame. Any child over the age of 12 will feel the same way.) But the Wonder Wheel offers great views of Downtown Manhattan and the Beach. Sit on the one that does not swing for the best and highest views. But this is a great park that will make you feel like a kid again and let a kid be a kid -- not an original line, I know, but not sure who's it is now. read more

Last Sunday, July 15, 2018, as I was taking pictures of an acquaintance on the boardwalk a group of Luna Park employees surrounded us like a wolf pack demanding that we do not take any pictures that show Luna Park in the background. They were nasty, rude, and intimidating. They followed us around the boardwalk to ensure that we are not taking pictures that includes Luna Park is in them. We tried to explain to them that we are not taking pictures inside the Park which they have the right to prohibit but rather from outside the Park and that incidentally the Park from the outside may be in them. They maintained in the most ardent way that we are wrong and the rule in Coney Island is that anyone taking pictures that includes any part of the Park must first obtain a permit to do it. They could not however tell us where we can get such a permit. They continued to follow us on the boardwalk until they saw that we were heading straight to the police officers patrolling the boardwalk to check with them the accuracy of the information we were provided by the Park's employees. The officers confirmed to us that as long as we are not taking pictures on the property of the Luna Park itself, we are fine taking pictures on the boardwalk that may includes the Park. It was a very unpleasant experience that tantamount to a total harassment by the Park's employees. Update: 9/1/2018. Luna Park Management wrote to me via email on 9/1/2018 an apology and that they are training their employees to call a manager to solve these situations more diplomatically. In the email, they explained that they do not allow photography with professional equipment in the Park and near the Park within five feet. This totally vindicate me at the very few photos taken where the Park was in the background were with a zoom lens and I was standing in middle of the boardwalk at least 15 feet away from any park property when taking the photos. However, I find their email is conciliatory and it is only time to tell whether their efforts to train the employees is working. I will continue to monitor the reviews here for public opinions on the park's employees. The Park itself is modern and the rides are enjoyable. read more

I recently visited Luna Park again for Coney Island's Nights of Horror. When I tell you that you should do this for Halloween, I am telling you that you should do this for Halloween! I was lucky enough to score the Living Social deal for $15 (instead of the full $30). By doing this, you skip the regular ticket line and go right to will-call to retrieve your ticket. They then check your ticket, give you a wristband, and use a wand. It's definitely unlike typical Luna Park, where you can walk around without security checks and without a ticket. I preferred it this way, to be honest. It made the lines go much faster since there were no tickets or Luna Cards to check. There are actors walking all over the park, waiting to sneak up on you. The clown haunted house is so-so but the corn field is amazing. I won't give anything away, but you must take advantage of this. Don't worry, the line moves quick. And definitely top your night off outside Luna Park at the Cyclone. They did that up all nice for Halloween, too. I can't wait for next year! read more

I came here over the weekend for luna park nights of horror. I got groupon deal $29 for 2 people, unlimited rides and 2 haunted mazes. SO MUCH FUN! while we wait on line for rides, you hear people screaming and you see people running away from park personnel dressed up as ghostly girls, satan, and people with masks on. The ride lines were short, and you would think the rides are for kids... i saw some kids emotionless on a few rides.. but when i went on i'm like holy hell the kids are braver than me!! I was able to go on the tickler ride 4 times straight... til I got too dizzy... CONEY CARNIVAL AND CUDIE FARM....one of the BEST haunted attractions i've been to!!!!!!!!!! i was bouncing through out both the mazes. The actors were so coordinated in scaring us one at a time!! I was busy laughing at one of the actors sneaking up behind my fiance and watching him get scared.. but the second i turned around someone was in my face! ... for CUDIE FARM... you see EVERYONE running out of the exit. i wondered why people constantly zipped out of there. We were so excited to visit Coney Island for the first time today. When we first arrived at the train station, we could see the colors from all the amusement park rides greeting us from far away. This small town somewhat reminded me of the fun time I had when visiting arcades and amusement parks as a child. I felt so bad for the amusement park though because there was literally no lines for almost all of the rides. To be honest, I sensed that the place was struggling to have enough visitors, as many booths were just dying to get any interests from visitors. It was so sad to know that this place never really recovered from its pre-hurricane Sandy popularity. Overall, I didn't really do any rides, because I just didn't think that it would be fun to just go on a ride with another person or two. In my mind, part of the fun at amusement park is seeing the crowds and lining up with other excited people to get to enjoy the rides together. However, this place seemed to lack participation from the crowd...and even just visits from visitors...it didn't seem to be as fun as I had previously hoped. I do wish though that this place eventually recovers its popularity or somehow gains attraction from more visitors. On a non-alcoholic weekend summer night, my friend and I decided to hang out at the boardwalk in Coney Island. He made me ride the Cyclone- probably the most sadistic, evil ride in there at the moment. It is decrepit and wooden, and you come out of the this contraption bruised and scarred for life (btw, E, i am still waiting for my magnet that says "I survived the Cyclone"). The Wonder Wheel was better- the lines weren't too bad that night and you get a nice view of Coney Island. I would suggest not to come here during the day on weekends- it's hot, crowded, and the parking situation is insane. The train ride from Manhattan takes so long that by the time you get here, you'd have grown a beard and gotten a Masters degree. But so worth it. It's old-school Brooklyn. You still get that sense of nostalgia whenever you step off the train. You see Nathan's, you see the old benches, the boardwalk and the old school rides and it takes you back to the years when you were still without a care in the world. Definitely a must. read more

Let me start by saying my kids really enjoy themselves whenever I take them here which is hardly ever. However! This park needs to reevaluate how they do their hiring. I've never been to a kids park where almost ALL of the employees are rude or have attitude problems. This place is full of young kids working the rides, games, & concession stands. Which isn't a problem unless of course you're rude & sadly majority of the workers are. I was here the other day & ended up having to tell a female working at the slushie stand a few things about her attitude. Which makes no sense at all. My other issue with this park is they charge for an unlimited wrist band according to your child's height. I ended up having to pay $69 for the wrist band because my daughter is 48in which wasn't a problem. Where the problem comes in at is the employees working the ride tried to tell me my daughter was to short and needed me to ride with her, huh?!?! How is that even possible when I was charged for a 48in & above wrist band?! I told the employee that stopped my daughter that I paid for a wrist band for 48in & above so she's going to get on the ride. My daughter was stopped multiple times & each time I had to let them know that she was going to get on the ride & why. One girl chewing on a chicken bone had the nerve to catch an attitude with me so I told her there's only 2 options 1)she's going to get on the ride or 2)you give me my money & she won't ride. My daughter ended up getting on the rides without me. Keep in mind 48in & above do not need to ride with an adult. Under 48in needs an adult. The girls at the ticket booth are making ppl pay for $69 wrist bands & the ppl controlling the rides are saying your child can't ride without you. Makes no sense Luna Park! I even had to help the girl measure my daughter. My daughter has a lot of hair & I sometimes keep It in a bun. The girl was measuring my baby from her bun (hair) which she was not suppose to do. Hands down The Thunderbolt was the best coaster I've experienced so far. Every twist and turn will have you screaming. I bought tickets originally for the the Boardwalk Flight ride but the wait time was too dang Lind so I just ended up going on the Thunderbolt. Prices ain't too bad but it's a crowded place here. Luna Park's grand opening on Saturday, May 29th was a pleasant yet underwhelming experience. As the opening day for the new amusement park at Coney Island, I was surprised to see the disorganization and clutter. The 11am start time received only a long line of people waiting to enter, with rides not opening up until 130pm or later. The 4-hour bracelets were at half price (only $15.00 for the one day), which was a deal - I would not spend $30.00 at full price for four hours of these rides. The rides themselves are best suited for younger children - more adventurous rides are in the works for the future, and the most "exciting" ride open now is a swing raised about 30 feet above the ground. For children ages 6-11, this park would be ideal - anyone older should look elsewhere. The park ride staff are primarily courteous, yet at times their unprofessionalism and lack of experience shines through; on multiple occassions staff were seen bickering and yelling at each other...not the best way to start off a park. Maybe it says something if the favorite part of the day was with my girlfriend not at Luna Park, but enjoying Nathan's or riding the Cyclone and Wonder Wheel...Luna Park has some catching up to do. We went last weekend, and it was fun! Some tips: - Luna Park seemed open and hour or two longer than Deno's, so I'd hit up anything in Deno's you want to do first. (Make sure to reserve your time slot  on Deno's website. It is free!) - You can reserve wristbands online for $40. HOWEVER, there are no refunds so if it's raining hard the day you reserved, you're SOTL. On the other hand, if the park is crowded that day, you may not get in at the gate, and also the wristbands are more expensive in person. We went on a cool, drizzly day and the lines were very short! - If you don't want to do all the rides, there are 3 rides you can pay $10 at the gate to ride. I did that for just the Cyclone! My friends who did all the rides told me Steeplechase was also very good though. - Nathan's is the hyped up place to eat, but the menu for Salt & Sizzle had some really fun looking cocktails I'd like to check out next time. - If you have any questions, the phone customer service for Luna Park is really great! read more

I like walking through this place. Honestly, since the new developers took over, I kind of feel like they are giving a candy facade to a foundation of seediness and crap, but I've said before that Coney Island is inherently charming. From far away, you'll view the Wonder Wheel and the Cyclone. Possibly the biggest eyesore is the demised AstroLand 360 view thing, but honestly, i think it provides some of the charm of the area, like a reminder of hopeful then trashed past, and now a look into the future and what could have been. They've revitalized a lot of the area by adding more food stands, more rides (like a log flume and the swing sets). It's pricey but I rarely do the rides, as I'm usually just viewing things. All in all, this is something everyone should try and see once, and I like the vibe here. read more

I agree with everyone who says it's difficult to find parking around here. However, I love coming here during the summer for the run down rides such as the haunted house and ferris wheel and overpriced food. Something about this place just keeps me coming back. I'm usually someone who avoids crowded places, but I love coming here on summer nights to feel the wind from the beach and see the glowing lights from the rides. Of course, the thrill of the rides here are nothing compared to that of other amusement parks (other than that sling shot ride), but I mostly just come for the atmosphere. Great amusement park for a fun day out in the city. Of course it does not compare to Six Flags but you def. get a bang for what you pay. It's just a short train ride to Brooklyn (about an hr and a half from Manhattan), so pretty good if you can't make it to PA or NJ. I've been here numerous times and they get better every year. They have a few really good rides, others are just ok. If you're an extreme thrill seeker there might only be 3 or 4 rides you'll enjoy. It's perfect for kids though! The rides work through purchased credits but they also have a wristband for unlimited rides. Unfortunately the wristband doesn't include the raceway which is super fun. Oftentimes they post deals in Groupon and LivingSocial so I'd def. keep an eye out for that! I think it's a pretty good way to spend a few hours out during the summer. It's right in Coney Island so there's tons of things to do, and its also right next to the beach if you want to make it an all day thing. read more

Lots of newer rides to keep you distracted from the potentially dangerous kiddie rides that you grew up on (lots of these older rides are still on the property, just not operable...leaves an eerie ominous kind of feeling). Tix are middle of the road. If you spend the whole day here, you'll probably spend just as much as you would at Six Flags. Ride tickets are approximately $1 each, the more you buy, the larger a di$count you get. Most rides cost between 6 and 7 tickets to ride. However, these tickets are not good for the ferris wheel, you have to pay separately for that ride. =( The rides are good. They will get you pretty dizzy, don't be fooled. Eat your Nathan's after you ride or else you'll be wearing it on your shirt for the rest of the day. =( Check out the arcade. The workers are really nice and want to see you have fun. They've also got Dippin' Dots! Huzzah! Coney Island...have you actually be revived? Only time will tell. And hopefully they'll clean up those abandoned looking buildings soon. read more

Just a slight splashed but we got on that twice! Hahaha my son sat in front and he said l screamed before we even went down the slide. The rides were more thrilling than they looked. In the end, my stomach was quesy. I was surprised as I usually LOVE roller coasters and thrill rides. Im not sure if it was the combination of what I ate and/or the rides. Overall I would return for the rides. It is a bit pricey though and small. Great view of Coney Island from the high swing. Pendulum was scary. Tickler was entertaining. Air race was more thrilling than expected so not for the faint of heart. The halloween maze was lame. The actor were interesting but I wish they had more variety in scary looking actors. Enjoyed the chainsaw. Worth it for me as I bought a deal online and would do it again at that price. read more

Very much an old-school amusement park feel, with rides that are "classics" though most of them have been replaced/repaired since Sandy last year. Just off the Boardwalk off Surf Ave, they require changing in your cash for tickets, and every ride costs different amounts of tickets. No refunds on the tickets, either, so as Karen Y. noted, you should probably get (at least from Sep-Oct) the wristbands for $30 if you're old (young) enough to want to enjoy the rides... or just buy a few tickets at a time for the rides you really want to get on once. We weren't planning on spending much time there so I didn't want to spend the $69/pp so I purchased the 140 tickets for $100 for my 3 kids to use. The rides they went on were between 7 & 10 tickets each and they were able to get on several rides and the Cyclone. It wasn't too crowded or busy at the time so there was no waiting on lines which was nice but I wouldn't come back here; too expensive for me. read more

Haven't been to an amusement park for a while and it just so happened that I was in Coney Island at the time. The rides in Coney Island are usually cheesy or boring, but then I came upon the Soaring Eagle. $7? Sure, I'll fly! Line wasn't long, but the last person on the ride smells funky and left his BO behind (always carry Purell). The ride was fun and exciting but wasn't too comfortable. My front calves kept hitting the steps during the ride and my body kept moving uncomfortably in the harness. Overall: fun, cheap, and reachable via subway. read more

As a New Yorker, I wanted badly to love this place. In fact, I annually drag my butt here to try and change my mind about it but I'm pretty set about my feelings. I think Luna Park deserves to be visited at least once. I think Luna Park is great for kids and kids only (although I think Coney Island has something for everyone). The rides are fun at look at. I bet the rides and games are super fun for little kids. It's definitely more a family atmosphere than "my grown up buddies and I are looking to conquer monstrous rides." What to expect: The good- lots of food and beer accessible in the general vicinity The bad- pretty pricy for both rides and food. Here's the DL. Luna Park is a kids' amusement park! There are rides for kiddies, there are rides for older kids. This amusement park is NOT meant for adults unless you have kids. Admission is $30 (minimum). $30 for 4 hours unlimited rides only per person. Or $30 debit card which can be use for rides and games and can be refilled. If your kids like rides that spin them around and turn them upside down, then you may enjoy this park. No bumper cars. No merry-go-round. No haunted house. The one water ride was no open at the time we went. Bottom line - not worth it! Certainly go and walk around and look but don't waste your money on the rides. I gave it 2 stars because it would make a fun day for a family with young children. read more

Luna Park - Entrance into Luna Park - Amusement Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

On our recent vacation to NYC, my 9 year old daughter insisted that we go to Luna Park in Coney Island. I was curious to see the Boardwalk and Nathan's Famous so I obliged. We also had two 4 hour wrist bands included with our NY passes. We got a late start and it took about an hour on the subway to get there from the Upper West Side. I expected to walk right in, but I guess they don't open until noon. In any case, if you have NY passes, you have to redeem them at the customer service booth. I found this out after waiting in line at the ticket booth. Ugh. Also, note that the 4 hour wristbands don't include the top 6 or so thrill rides. For us, this was not a big deal as my daughter was not tall enough for these attractions except for one. Here's another note, the Slingshot has a height requirement of 48" AND it also has a weight minimum of 110 pounds. Again, I found this out the hard way, after I purchased cash cards for us. It really would help if this information was posted. I was further disappointed as they wouldn't refund my purchase. I didn't want to argue anymore so we spent it on food and games, but wasted the bonus tickets that can only be used on rides. With all that being said, there are many rides that are included in the wristband that are just as good or better than other similar amusement parks. My daughter had a blast and that's all that really matters to me. I only managed to ride a few things as while I love roller coasters, I can't take too much on the spin and flip you upside down rides as I get older. LOL. Many NY friends tell me that this are is not as grand as it once was. That may be true, but I would never know. Compared to several places that we frequent (Pacific Pier - Santa Monica, CA, Belmont Park - San Diego, CA and Pleasure Pier - Galveston, TX) there are more and arguably better attractions. read more

Love love love this place. I'm not one for rides but I love the atmosphere. The roses can get pricey but it's not too bad. The food is over priced but I always tell my friends to pack lunches when heading out there. If all else fails stop at the supermarket or corner store to get cold cuts. Luna park has plenty of workers and police around to keep you safe. There are some weirdos who try and start trouble but it get taken care of right away. Make sure you watch your kids because there are so many kids who get separated from their families because there are so many kids running around. I suggest using a maker write your name and number and use one of those liquid bandaid to cover it and the kid will be good. If they got lost someone will have your number to contact you. read more
