Such a cool and unexpected little spot. The design alone makes it worth checking out, glowing fish, soft lights, and music that gives the whole ride this calm, underwater vibe. It's not your typical carousel and that's what makes it stand out. A nice walk thru the park as you get there, it's a nice break from the noise of the city. The ride is short but feels thoughtful, like someone really cared about the experience. It's a small thing, but it adds a lot to the area. Highly recommend.

I can't tell you how many times I've been to Battery park, and have seen this carousel. This week I've decided to finally experience this ride for the first time.My inner child was happy to the core. You can go on a ride that is stationary ,or one that goes up and down. I went with the option of going up and down and loved it. Truly so cute and highly recommend. You are never too old to enjoy a carousel ride.

So fun and cute! Took my friend here for her birthday, she was so excited. I recommend coming here at night if you're looking to take pictures with the lights.

Oh man, what a great $6 find nestled near the ferry entrance for the Statue of Liberty! My son was young enough they didn't charge for him, but he absolutely loved this carousel and asked repeatedly to return. The music on this ride transports you to the sea as a magnificent score plays as you go around and around. There are seats that go up and down and others that are stationary. It was a quick ride, but definitely worth it if you have little ones!

I found this on TikTok & really think it's a hidden gem in Battery Park, NYC. I love all things carousel related & insisted my family ride with me (hubby, teen and grown daughter). We all loved it. I giggled like a little kid. Best $6 ever spent.

Finally got to see and ride the SeaGlass carousel. We were coming from the seaport, which was about a 15 min-walk so I said why not. The R and 1 trains and Staten Island ferry are nearby. The ride costs $6 per person, for adult/child (pls check their site). Pay at the front of the line; credit cards accepted (that day only CC, no cash). Ride a fish/sea creature. An adult, with a small child can ride on one. If tall enough, a child can ride on their own. The seat is a bit narrow and there is a belt to hold the rider. Pick one inside a circle if you want one that moves up and down. Once the ride starts, each one lights up so must be nice in the evening too. Maybe it's the carousel's colors but looked like it needed a little sprucing up though. Also some fishes looked like the top broke off, not sure if designed that way. I liked that this carousel is different compared to a typical one because the fishes move left and right and the circular platform also spins so a lot of movement; sitting position is more relaxed, same with the music. Staff is nice and very patient, which they need with some adults; like one who felt she didn't need to pay for her lap child (but was told was big enough to go solo) and just went on anyway.

A fun little under the sea experience with so many fun colors. Yes, it's mostly supposed to be for the little humans but the full size humans do love it too. For $6 you can ride in this cool bioluminescent-esque ride in a magical, colorful, pretty merry go round experience (but make it under the sea themed). Of course at any time of the day it's beautiful but the colors truly shine at night or right when it's getting darker. A true sea glass experience.

I do recommend this place for at least a visit if you live in or are visiting New York City. It's such a fun thing to do, especially if you have children. I'm talking any age, but if you have older children like preteens or teenagers, I say it's better to go when the sun is setting or closer to the evening. The lights give it more of a magical ambiance, and you can see them light up better at this time. Especially with the whole theatrical musical vibes it gives. It's so cute for date night as well. The price right now in the summer of 8/2024 was six dollars. If you live in NYC, then you know why I had to write this part about the price, lol. Two thumbs up from. HAPPY YELPING!

A Magical Early Evening Ride at SeaGlass Carousel - A Must-Do in NYC! The SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park was an absolute delight during our family's spring break trip to NYC, and it quickly became one of our favorite memories! We visited in the early evening as the sun was setting, and the timing couldn't have been more perfect--the golden hues of the sunset paired with the carousel's glowing lights created a truly magical atmosphere. This isn't your typical carousel--it's a mesmerizing, aquarium-themed experience that transports you into an underwater world. The moment we stepped into the spiraling glass and steel pavilion, inspired by the chambered nautilus, we were captivated by the vibrant, glowing fiberglass fish and the immersive lights and music. Our kids were thrilled to hop into the massive fish seats (there are 30 of them!), and as the ride began, they spun and swirled in patterns that made it feel like we were swimming through the ocean. The lack of a traditional center pole gave us unobstructed views, and the color-changing LED lights created a stunning, bioluminescent glow that was even more breathtaking against the backdrop of the setting sun. The carousel's history ties back to The Battery's past as the original home of the New York Aquarium, which opened in 1896, and you can feel that connection in every detail. The music, composed specifically for the ride, added to the enchanting atmosphere, and the whole experience felt like a blend of art, architecture, and pure fun. At $6 per ride (as of early 2025), it's a fantastic value for such a unique attraction in NYC. The staff was welcoming and friendly, helping us choose our fish and ensuring everyone was settled for the 3.5-minute ride. The location in Battery Park is perfect, with gorgeous views of the Statue of Liberty just outside and the Staten Island Ferry nearby. After the ride, we headed straight to the nearby playgrounds in Battery Park so the kids could burn off some energy, which was a fantastic addition to our visit--they had a blast playing while we enjoyed the park's lively atmosphere as the evening set in. The SeaGlass Carousel is a one-of-a-kind experience that's perfect for all ages--our whole family, from kids to adults, loved it. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to add a touch of magic to their NYC trip, and we can't wait to return on our next visit!

Absolutely amazing experience! For something that seems so simple, it was absolutely magical. We smiled and giggled the entire time like children. Six dollars and this was one of the most memorable things that we've done in the city. This is a fun experience for people of all ages.

What a wonderful experience. Admission is $6 or $50 for a 10-Pack. You get to ride on big fishes on the merry go round maybe a few times around and soothing music airing. Be sure to get on the one in the middle as it goes up and down. This was perfect for kids or adults all ages. If you have a young toddler they can sit on your lap. They have seatbelts on each fish. There are also stroller parking outside.

Not sure maybe but bring your card just incase

Do they accept credit cards for payment at the carousel?

I am 95% sure I paid with a debit card when I bought my SeaGlass Token. But here is their email and phone # so you can be sure. info@thebattery.org 212-344-4194

Is there enough time for the ride to stop for photos (a few minutes)?

There is time in between rides, and in the day I went we were able to take pictures because it was not so busy. Maybe during busy times they would try to rush people out more quickly

He talked about it all the time and asked to see "carousel pictures" over and over, and then we went home to L.A., where the one time we tried to drive to find a carousel, the damn thing was out of operation and we had to hide it from his view. So when we spent a week within a couple blocks of Bryant Park, we were thrilled to discover Le Carrousel at the beginning of our stay. Tickets cost $4 each or $20 for ten, and I decided we could manage ten rides over the next five days. I gave away a couple of rides, but we did use eight, so that was $20 well spent. Le Carrousel is in the thick of Bryant Park, not a huge one, but plenty big enough to impress small children. There was a cute little ticket booth, where I bought a punch card that I was able to redeem for tokens throughout the week (not sure why this extra step was necessary, but the gold tokens had their own charm, I suppose). The carousel was always staffed by one or two people who dealt with tickets and watched to make sure that children were attended and strapped in and that nothing went wrong during the rides. They were, as a group, friendly and efficient. The carousel didn't get busy during the week, so Leo got his pick of horses and was able to stay on for consecutive rides. There was more of a crowd on the Saturday, when we were using up his last tokens. Another parent asked us to move him off his favored horse so her kids could ride next to each other, and we obliged, only for Leo to become upset and for another full-on five-year-old to throw a loud tantrum and demand the same apparently very attractive horse. The mom who had us move then gave up the horse for this older child, and I wish everyone involved some minor indignity or discomfort for this nonsense, making my baby cry so a brat who should know better could have his way. Anyway, you can't always get what you want, and mostly, Leo did get what he wanted, which was near-daily carousel rides for an entire week. If you have a little one who loves a merry-go-round, I'd highly recommend frequent visits to Bryant Park.

The staff working at the concession was also so helpful in letting us unload the food and drinks prior to the party start time. A special thank you to Emily who really went above and beyond to make sure everything went right. The weather was perfect too and it helps that the entire carousel section is covered so even if its hot outside, it was nice and shaded. Our guests were raving about this party for many days afterwards. We even had many native Staten Islanders who had come there for the first time. They will definitely be returning. I want to have every party there from now on. Thank you again to the staff, Do not hesitate to throw a party here because you well get your moneys worth and the experience will surely be a positive one.

The focal point of the amusement park is the historic Flushing Meadows Carousel. It contains four rows of figures, including 64 jumping horses, 7 standing horses, a lion, and 2 chariots. It was created to serve patrons of the 1964 New York World's Fair by combining two earlier carousels, both of which were carved in Coney Island in the first decade of the twentieth century by renowned carver Marcus Illions. The two historic carousels used for its construction were the Feltman's Carousel (1903) and the Stubbman Carousel (1908). While the 1964 World's Fair was going on, the carousel was located in the Lake Amusement Area. In 1968, the carousel was moved to its current spot which is adjacent to the Queens Zoo. In 2012, NY Carousel Entertainment was awarded the contract to operate the Flushing Meadows Carousel. The company made cosmetic repairs to the machine, repainting it, sanding and staining the historic wooden floor, and adding new fencing to the entire area. The following year, Fantasy Forest Amusement Park opened. The carousel was joined by additional rides which include the Corona Choo Choo, the Twirling Teacups, the Bouncy Baja Buggies, the Corona Cobra Coaster, and the Queens Motor Speedway. My family and I recently visited Fantasy Forest Amusement Park while we were spending the day at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. We spent the morning at the Queens Zoo and the small amusement park is conveniently located next to it. Although there aren't many rides at Fantasy Forest, the ones that they do have are very fun. During one of our homeschool field trip, we took our Little to historic Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, which is in close proximity to a few venues. This visit was to the Queens Zoo. On the way to the entrance, we passed by Fantasy Forest, and of course the kiddo begged to go. After our zoo experience, we headed right one over. It was still early so the lines were still manageable. I would suggest getting a few more tickets than you think you might need to avoid having to replenish because we literally needed two tickets and by that time, the lines was ridiculously long. This is a cute little permanent carnival fixture. They have a couple of covered, shady spaces that you can rent, for parties. I could definitely see hosting a small gathering for a kid's birthday. I would bring my own food, something easy, like pizzas, juice and cupcakes, to make life easiest. The ice-cream truck parks itself right outside so that's also an idea for treats after a party. Fantasy Forest has plenty of kid-friendly rides, many that parents can go on as well. It has been some time since we took ours to a place where she could go on rides. She was so psyched. Because of her size at the time, we had to accompany her on all the rides which was fun. On the carousel, they may or may not charge the adult a ticket also. I was able to ride next to her the first time and then when my husband went on with her, they made him stand up next to her for the ride. It was weird...same kid, same ride, same operator, different parent. Hubby ended up getting on a horse also because it didn't make sense. We rode the carousel with her a few times. She definitely loves it most. The rides are in pretty good condition and the place looks like they maintain it well. Just about every ride was operating. Don't let these rides fool you. Some of them are pretty intense, like the Queens Motor Speedway, Frog Hopper and Queens Himalaya, are all legit. I was holding on to my cap and my kid was laughing all the way. It was a fun experience. Despite it not being busy in the beginning, adults and their children, alike, get pushy. The lack of home training is apparent. I'm happy we went when we did. I would definitely go back but it would have to be a get in, get out situation. I value my personal space and level head too much. We didn't partake in any of the junk food but there's plenty around. As it began getting crowded, we decided to skidaddle. As I said earlier, we wanted to go on one more ride and the kid needed a parent with her but we were short one ticket and the line was crazy by this time so we got on the carousel one last time and headed out.

It has been deemed a historic national site, as the initial carousel was built in 1903, only to be rebuilt in 1966 after a fire. It now sits in Woodhaven, Queens, restored to its former glory and awaiting children from all the borough and beyond. One wouldn't think the NY Carousel would be an underrated family activity given its history, but too many folks are unaware that it exists even now. The city has taken great steps to ensure its longevity and anyone looking for kid friendly activity or a little nostalgia has come to the right place. While it is a short ride in the natural beauty of the park, the surrounding space makes it an ideal getaway for families who want to book the space for gatherings of whatever kind. The Carousel itself is the main attraction of course, though there are other rides for kids that range from a train ride to a recently added mini ferris wheel dubbed the "Woodhaven Wheel." Ticket costs for the rides vary, but the last time I checked it was $35 for a 10-pack (i.e. $3.50 a ticket). While there are some small carnival games and story telling sessions, this is not a substitute for any major carnival / amusement park on a bigger scale in any way. Think of this as a place to kill a couple of hours with the young ones. I'd recommend bringing food in and avoiding their options (think hot dogs, small packs of chips, etc.) if at all possible. They've closed this section of the park for the rest of 2020, but I sense that in 2021 that they'll take great measures to ensure everything is safe for youngins / carefree adults to partake.
