Even on a overcast day we made it out to this wonderful carousel in Queens. The carousel is a city landmark and all it's items are hand carved. You really see the intricate art that goes into each piece. The lil one loved her first carousel ride and being around other kids. There is a snack bar in front and a decent sized event space for parties while today there was a kid party going on. Also a games booth too to win prizes. Carousel rides run only a few dollars. A magic show also occurs in the afternoon. Wonderful carousel in Forest Park with nearby parking. You can always go into the park and playgrounds as well. Makes for a fun afternoon. You'll hear about other bigger name carousels in the city but this one really is a gem and shows the great restoration work that was put into it. Tigers, horses, even family seating on the carousel. Kids loved it.

Out and about with friends on this glorious day.... and their little mini's. We had to stop at the Forest Park Carousel. This carousel is larger than I thought and it's very colorful too. The kids had a good time and they went around for awhile. Not bad for $3.00. Great day to be out. There's also a train ride that runs on a track for the kids as well.. Venders were selling cotton candy, balloons and other trinkets kids love. Great entertainment break for the kids.

1 ride for $3 on the carousel. From the park worker, it was explained that this carousel is the 2nd most mystical amongst carousels. There's a lot of details put into the carousel that you can see. I have never paid that close attention to carousels before but now I will. The park worker was very informative and I learned a lot from our time at the park. I would highly recommend people coming to here to take a look at the masterpiece. Besides this, there wasn't much else to do. Definitely a place for families.

I have some of the fondest memories of riding the carousel as a child and I have had even more as a mom and grandma. And it is right here in our neighborhood park = awesome.

The focal point of the amusement park is the historic Flushing Meadows Carousel. It contains four rows of figures, including 64 jumping horses, 7 standing horses, a lion, and 2 chariots. It was created to serve patrons of the 1964 New York World's Fair by combining two earlier carousels, both of which were carved in Coney Island in the first decade of the twentieth century by renowned carver Marcus Illions. The two historic carousels used for its construction were the Feltman's Carousel (1903) and the Stubbman Carousel (1908). While the 1964 World's Fair was going on, the carousel was located in the Lake Amusement Area. In 1968, the carousel was moved to its current spot which is adjacent to the Queens Zoo. In 2012, NY Carousel Entertainment was awarded the contract to operate the Flushing Meadows Carousel. The company made cosmetic repairs to the machine, repainting it, sanding and staining the historic wooden floor, and adding new fencing to the entire area. The following year, Fantasy Forest Amusement Park opened. The carousel was joined by additional rides which include the Corona Choo Choo, the Twirling Teacups, the Bouncy Baja Buggies, the Corona Cobra Coaster, and the Queens Motor Speedway. My family and I recently visited Fantasy Forest Amusement Park while we were spending the day at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. We spent the morning at the Queens Zoo and the small amusement park is conveniently located next to it. Although there aren't many rides at Fantasy Forest, the ones that they do have are very fun. We told our sons that they could pick any two rides to go on. First, they both accompanied me on the Queens Motor Speedway. My sons liked how the cars quickly zip around the corner during each course rotation. Afterwards they both accompanied my wife on the beautiful carousel. Overall we had a fun visit the Fantasy Forest and we hope to stop again on a future visit to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park!

So I'm starting out by praising the park as a concert venue to make up for my gripes about Central Park and PNC Bank Arts Center. I enjoyed the free De La Soul show here, which had good sound quality and a pleasant setup where you could opt for a close-up viewing of Eye Know and Me Myself and I or just roam around and still hear it. I wish I remembered who had the Yelp reviews that mostly focused on bathrooms, but park regulars know about the bathroom sort of near the LIRR train. It's not as glamorous or as clean as Bryant Park but it's mostly ok and open later than one might expect. The park isn't offering a wilderness facsimile like parts of Prospect Park but you can see birds and there are nice plants. The Unisphere is legendary.

Google maps took me to the back of the carousel but there was no entrance. Luckily there is a small street to the right and we were able to get to the parking lot and go to the entrance. The carousel is house in a small building where it is protected from the elements. Tickets cost $4 for a single ride for the general public and $3 for members of the Long Island Children's Museum. You can also purchase a 10 pack of tickets at a price of $35 for the general public and $25 for members of the Long Island Children's Museum. The carousel has been restored to its former glory. It is a beautiful sight to see. Some of carousel horses go up and down others are stationary. There are also 2 chariots and even a lion (stationary). The music is classic carousel tunes. The hub in the middle is painted with murals of an older time as is the top of the carousel. The rife lasts almost 4 minutes. A very nice experience.

The first model was originally installed in 1871. The Carousel is one of Central Park's most popular and famous attractions. Since the first carousel arrived, there have been a total of four distinct models with the original model being powered by a horse or mule which walked in a concealed compartment underground below the attraction. The animals were taught to start and stop with the sound of a foot tap from the ride's operator above. The carousel installed at Central Park today is the Friedsam Memorial Carousel. It is considered one of New York City's finest examples of American folk art. It was crafted in 1908 by artisans Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein. It features 57 hand-carved brightly caparisoned horses, two ornately embellished chariots and a mechanical organ. The structure was found in an old BMT trolley terminal at Coney Island. It was donated to Central Park by the Michael Friedsam Foundation in 1951. A ceremonial marker was placed on the exterior wall of the carousel building on the carousel's dedication day on July 2, 1951. This carousel was notably mentioned in J. D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye" and is featured in the Marvel TV series "The Punisher" (though filming took place at the Forest Park carousel in Queens).
