I came in on a Friday evening to dine alone. Manny was my server and his service was impeccable. He was extremely attentive, and so polite. For the main course I had the short braised ribs. They were melt in your mouth-tender!! The tenderness of the short braised ribs made me want to savor every single bite for as long as I could! Went to Lulu's for a solo brunch. I had been meaning to try this restaurant for a while so I decided to treat myself to brunch. It did not disappoint! Jonathan, my waiter, was very attentive. The food was delicious. The only thing I wish I had known is that they add tomato sauce to their breakfast potatoes. Not my fav. It wasn't a deal breaker. But sadly tomato sauce doesn't agree with me. I ordered the steak and eggs and it was so flavorful. I'd definitely return to Lulu's to explore their menu. read more

Try it for 1st time! The food was just season properly. Love the steak, chicken and pasta dishes. The lady cello drink was just perfect. I called to see if this restaurant took reservations and it was suggested that I just come right on in, since it was just two of us. I was greeted immediately by Richard as I had stated on my call, I loved sitting at the bar and as soon as I arrived, he saw me head in that direction. Chris prepared a Spicy Roots cocktail which was delightful and my guest had an expresso martini. I had the gazpacho which my dining partner was happy to finish due to the fact that I wanted to save room for my entree. My DP had the HRW brunch menu and chose the chicken and waffles. I ordered the crab benedict (not on HRW) and it was delightful. DP's second course was raspberry sorbet, the presentation was amazing. I truly look forward to returning in the near future. I had read the bad reviews on Yelp and was hoping to be able to give them a good review... We dined at Lulus on Saturday night as a group of 4. I had made the reservation weeks in advance and had been looking forward to trying our new neighborhood restaurant. Things started out well with cocktail/wine arriving quickly. One member of our party was on a special diet so she ordered separately but the rest of us ordered 5 dishes to share. I asked that our dishes come out as ready since we had ordered several. My friends salad came out pretty quickly but none of our dishes came out until almost an hour after our reservation. All 5 of our dishes arrived at the same time. I have to think that they misunderstood me and instead heard to bring everything at once. The pepperoni pizza we ordered appeared to be a frozen pizza. It was a perfectly round cardboard type crust as you get in the freezer section of the grocery store. I honestly feel confused why they would bother putting pizza on the menu. Our friends did end up taking the pizza home and said their kids loved it for lunch. I say this only because I am not above frozen grocery pizza, in fact I love it, I just don't typically pay $18 for it. Both of our pastas were cold when they arrived. The beef was cooked well. I really wanted to love this restaurant but I can't imagine going back. I would like to also say that I completed a five day fast on Friday and even given that I hadn't eaten food all week this was still mostly inedible. The perfect martini was NOT perfect. Butter was frozen.  Grilled branzino was insipid. The Polpetite was not to taste.  Should I continue?  Again, very disappointing.   Ruben came to our table, in spite table #35, was not his assigned section, providing great friendly customer service with a smile.  Exiting the restaurant was also very difficult. The service was a "5 star"rating.  Teresa as friendly, professional, attentive, and was proactive to my requests. Excellent ratings for Ms. De Jesús A, and Ruben. My wife and I tried this place after looking for a new Italian restaurant to have when we wanted to celebrate and wow, Lulu's certainly delivered! The atmosphere is very welcoming and comfortable, but very nice. I wouldn't wear a tee shirt here. The service was great. Our waiter walked us through the menu, his recommendations, and was attentive but not overbearing. He also was very thorough when checking for food allergens We got the calamari to start, which was a perfect portion for two. It was in a sort of sweet & sour sauce that wasn't too heavy but complimented the dish well. The fried banana peppers are so good in this dish. I got the Bolognese and my wife got the lobster ravioli. Both were excellent, but the ravioli was the real star. They make their own pasta which adds to the dishes being very good. The bolognese was good, not great. The sauce was not what I was expecting, but still good. We both had a recommended wine pairing as well. I will start off with the bad.. I was very disappointed in the serving size the lobster sachetti for $75. It is not worth it for the amount of food your receive. This really changed the mood of our outing for Mother's Day due to one of us not getting enough to eat. On to the good. Service and atmosphere was perfect. The braised short rib was so tender on top of the potatoes and carrots. The Rissotto special with shrimp was also amazing. Bread service is a must and very tasty. We enjoyed a business lunch to complete a transaction and were met, greeted and immediately seated by smiling staff. The luncheon menu provided delicious options and we each paired a wonderful salad and Main of our choosing. I started with the bright and tasty Pear and Arrugula salad. My Main was a delicious Carbonara. The sauce was so smooth added to by the egg yoke topper increasing the silkiness with beautiful smokey pieces of pancetta woven through the pasta. We've eaten at LuLu's several time and I'm afraid to say the food quality has declined. It's in a great location and has a "neighborhood" restaurant feel. It has a very nice atmosphere, great presentation of the food, good service and everyone is pleasant. However, the food leaves something to be desired. My wife and I had dinner with another couple last night. Three of us had pasta dishes - Carbonara, Bolognese, and Pomodorini. None of these three were very good. Overall, I would say they were just bland. Very little flavor or interesting taste. I had the Bolognese and found myself covering it with salt and pepper. Also, I have finally decided that I don't care for the Burrata salad. At first, I liked the idea of the beets, but now it feels they are just overpowering. Maybe mixing in some nice, ripe heirloom tomatoes would help, but the way it is now just isn't working for me. Unfortunately, we will probably not be coming back to LuLu's any time soon. Great evening at this cute intimate Italian restaurant on Kirby. We enjoyed that the tables were far enough apart and we could hear each other. The food was delicious. There were 4 of us ordering the branzino ,salmon, beef pasta dish ,grilled Caesar's salad. a unique strawberry cheesecake and bambolinas. My daughter and I were looking for a place to eat, after church. Walked by this place and there were only two people inside, so we decided to give it a try. First, let me say, the place is very nice, clean and quaint. After looking at the menu, we had second thoughts about leaving, because everything on the menu was overpriced, but we stayed. We ordered from the brunch menu. My daughter ordered the lobster roll and said it was tasty. I ordered the waffle and bacon. When it arrived at our table, I could tell that the waffle was cold and the bacon was not freshly cooked, in fact, both items were cold. Who enjoys eating cold waffles and previously cooked bacon. The waiters give the impression of professionalism, but don't be fooled. We will never eat here again! read more

Had dinner here with the family the other night. Our first visit. We were really pleased with the food and the service. Meatballs, short rib, carbonara, pizza, etc. all good. And our waitress was great. My only complaint, and my reason for the four stars, is the wine list. There are not many affordable choices. If you like cab, you can pick between the low end Silver Palm that is priced 4X what you pay at Kroger or the Jordan Cab at $165/bottle. Not much in between and they ran out of the Silver Palm after two bottles. So it was either switch to Pinot Noir or pay a ransom for the Jordan Cab. For this to become more than a "special occasion" place for us they need to add some reasonable wines to the list in the $12-14/glass range. The food is good but not so much that I'm willing to pay a lot more for a glass of decent wine than what I can get at several comparable places close by. read more

I rarely ever write reviews but Lulu's was so impressively over priced and underwhelming I feel compelled to write this incredibly negative review. At 1st glance the restaurant is physically beautiful although the menu is limited. The service was also good right up until we were served drinks, salads, the entre and then presented with the bill. We were overcharged on 4 separate items on the bill. When I asked the waiter he said "sorry... that's the way it is!" The charged $4 extra for "an extra shaken martini... we asked for it shaken very hard so that ice chips were at the top" so they charged $4 to shake the martini. My wife ordered grilled Branzino. She swapped out the standard side items for grilled carrots. This was a swap out and they charged us $6 more for this. I asked for a healthy salad without fattening dressing. I asked the for plain balsamic vinegar and to make sure there were plenty of tomatoes on the salad... again a $6 extra charge. My entre was the most expensive item on the menu, Black Angus Tenderloin. We are trying to eat healthy and I asked what could I swap for the Polenta that came with the steak. The answer was grilled carrots. Again my 5 pieces of carrot were $6 extra. We were charged an additional $24 literally for nothing. Again when we asked the waiter he was matter of fact and said "that's the way it is... sorry". Dinner for 4 was a whopping $337.77 plus tip. This was the 1st time we dined here but I have now been there twice... FIRST and LAST! Came on a Saturday night and every table and the bar was full so I would recommend a reservation. They have valet for $5 and the parking lot is under construction so be aware. When you walk in the restaurant is beautiful. Service was outstanding the entire night. It is fairly shocking to me the bad reviews because every thing we tried was good if not great. The calamari may have been the best calamari we have ever had. The Caesar salad was very unique (not quite as good as Ostia's but good). For mains we had the branzino, the pappardelle bolognese, prosciutto and arugula pizza, and the black angus tenderloin. We all tried some of each and I think everyone agreed the tenderloin was the best. The pasta was great quality and my husband enjoyed his branzino although he has had better. For desert we shared the bombiloni donuts and they were good but again, not the best I've ever had. However, the cons are the drinks were only okay. Italian margarita was ehhh and the only rosé option wasn't great either. I completely agree with everyone's comments about the bread. Everyone took a bite and didn't really want to eat any more of it. They really need to offer butter or oil. Honestly the meal was really great and I will definitely be back. read more
