Firstly, the portions here are HUGE! We ordered the 12oz prime rib dinner set and it came with pasta/rice pilaf , potatoes, salad/soup, two large slices of prime rib and veggies (around $30). If there are two of you coming together, you can definitely ask them to help split the portions. Even for the two of us, we had leftovers to take home.. I'm giving 2 stars because usually everything my friends and family have ordered here throughout the yeas was good. Until today, when I was served a small flavorless turkey burger that was barely cooked on the outside and totally RAW inside. I paid in full plus a tip and took it home to season and cook it so it was edible. I should've sent it back but couldn't wait. I showed the waitress how raw it was, she agreed it was unacceptable. Hopefully the cook was informed. $15 is too much for this menu item. Seriously, fast food would've been a more delicious, filling choice today. read more

Love the decor and the ambiance of this place! Our server was super sweet and let my friends and I sit wherever we wanted. I like how the menu had a little bit of history on who Lulu was and how the restaurant came about. Their hash browns were nice and crispy, and I ordered their Tex Mex scramble and was able to substitute the beef with chicken. One of my friends ordered prime rib which came with 3 eggs and hash browns and the other had their Irish Benedict. No complaints whatsoever! Dishes had huge portions for the price and we left full and ready to take in the day! Overall: Breakfast was delicious and I hope to come by here again to try out their lunch! There are some great things about Lulus and some meh things about this place. For sure this place is a landmark for those who have lived in Redding for the majority of their life. I actually really like this place but more for the environment than the food. The staff are wonderful, the customers are fun, and I always have a good time. But, the food is fine. If I based my review solely on the food and drinks, I would give them 3 stars. But the environment brings it up to 4. The food is solid. Large portions - you won't leave hungry and the food seems pretty fresh. The drinks are strong. There is a jukebox in the lounge (be aware the lounge can get pretty loud) or if you prefer something a little more quiet and reserved, you can hang out in the front "diner" area. I will definitely keep going and I'm sure I'll have a blast each time - I just won't be expecting to be blown away by the food. read more

Online there was a menu and price of $19.98 but our bill was $39.98 each. I'm usually one to leave good reviews but this time I simply can't. Service was extremely slow, which wasn't too big of a deal and we figured they're short staffed. Server was kind and attentive. The reason I'm leaving a one-star review however is that my four year old ordered the spaghetti off their kid's menu, drank some milk and became violently ill within hours. She didn't eat or drink anything else between and the rest of us are fine. My poor kid couldn't stop getting sick prior to, and during the three hour drive back to our city. I'm typing this as she attempts to sleep on my lap now. She can't go more than 20 minutes without incident and at this point may need medical attention if we can't get it under control. I've never watched my young child struggle to even keep water down or at four years old be forced back into pull-ups. To say I'm a worried mess and absolutely livid is an understatement. read more

What we really wanted was a Bloody Mary and Lulu's had them. They had regular and tall versions of it and I thought it was regular and double, but the regular was a very small cocktail glass. And it was exceptionally salty. Overall, though, it was very good. I got the traditional eggs benedict and as you might expect, it was rich as hell. There was SO much hollandaise on it, it made the muffin squishy, but that's how it goes. I don't particularly LOVE Canadian bacon, so the almost 1" thick slices on the muffins were a bit much for me to handle. The hashbrowns were exceptional. My partner enjoyed patty melt, but it was greasy. So was my food. That is really the only part that stood out as a negative, but it's diner food, so it did it's job. The service was good and the coffee was fresh. Redding is depressing, so I doubt I'll be back, but I do recommend it if you're looking for post-boozing food. read more

I know ya'll know somebody that a restaurant like this will remind you of. It is reminiscent of a diner in Eureka, CA called Stanton's that is now an expired icon of said city. It is full of old people and the occasional oddball (like myself) who wants to eat dinner at 5:30 p.m.. I ordered the halibut with green beans and rice pilaf. The fish was sturdy and flaky yet still moist. The green beans were flavorful and still had the crunch like they should. The rice pilaf was.. rice pilaf. It was good for someone who doesn't normally like it. The coffee was kept hot and the water came cold. Lil' Lulu (iykyk ) was my server and she was awesome! She was very friendly and attentive to all who came in. Garbed with a cartoon cat apron.... she made me feel as though I was in the right place. Came here from a recommendation from a friend and he said... YOU HAVE TO EAT IN THE BAR lol. So we did! The interior is very old school! Red booths and dark! The food was absolutely AMAZING! I had the spaghetti and I am SUPER picky about my spaghetti and I need this recipe lol! Chunky and flavorful! The hostess was on the spot and very attentive. We had a good time. I asked him what part he wants to rave most about and he cannot pick one. 'Everything, even down to the coffee is delicious!' The food at this place is very good. The waitresses are excellent. Unfortunately this place is located in "Homeless Central" and unfortunately the management is allowing them to hang out on the front steps and beg for money. They also seem to allow them to use the restrooms and make a mess out of the place. This was once a wonderful establishment and still could be but they have lost a lot of patrons who dont wish to walk through homeless people and spit covered sidewalks to get a good meal. This is a wonderful old-school restaurant. Just take a look at the photo with the counter that you could say that! Aside from it's cool vintage vibe, a lot of great selections on the menu and what I had was very delicious. Two poached eggs on the classic corn beef hash over an English muffin. I love Lulu's! Do you not expect a modern dining experience. This place is old and super traditional but it works! I always go there when we come into town to visit the mother-in-law. They make a mean bloody Mary and breakfast is always delicious. It's kind of funny because I'm always wanting to dine at and review hip and notable restaurants but somehow I always want to go to Lulus when I'm in Redding! We were just there a few days ago when there was the fluke snowstorm and the line was long all day. Everyone was having such a great time and even though the service was slow everybody supported the staff Who really had to dig deep to keep up. Kudos to them. I'm clueless why this place has good reviews. Came here on a Sunday night with a party of four. Ordered the Steak Diane medium rare.... received the steak and it was almost medium well. For 32$ this shouldn't happen, or maybe you shouldn't serve steak if you don't know how to cook it to the temperature that's requested. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib and got a over cooked piece of meat only to send it back and get another over cooked piece of meat. Epic fail. Was told by our server that the cook had a long day, which in my opinion is excusing all their mistakes. My other friend ordered the fried chicken and sadly said Popeyes chicken would of been 5 stars compared to theirs... Will not return next time I come to town for business. I ordered their Denver Omelet : ham, cheese and bell peppers ( subed sausage instead of ham) - it comes with the usual suspects of hash browns and toast; I just opted out on both and substituted for fruit. Totally confused on driving up, I circled the joint a few times (which was not easy considering all the one way streets). Parking is confusing and it looked totally empty from outside. I just assumed it was closed. Eventually decided to give it a shot, went inside and there is a bar area with food tables that you can't see from outside. It was reasonably busy somewhat late on a Sunday evening. Guys at the bar helped me when I walked in looking confused, and pointed me to a table. It was surprisingly attractive for a bar, sort of an old school Vegas vibe. I had a big table with a cushiony couch all to myself. Then a couple guys got into a (relatively chill) fight, so that added to the LV vibe. They eventually got booted. I had a pretty yummy prime rib with all the sides and some enormously full glasses of pretty subpar wine. It was fun. Kind of made me think of a sort-of fancy American Legion hall with the characters that were in there. $50 for everything before tip. read more

It was my first time eating prime rib with a steamer bucket of clams but it was amazing and there must of been 30 clams or more! The pics say it all and this sure is a local gem that knows how to serve it up !!! The service was awesome as we sat by the bar and watched how the locals in Redding do it! I love Lulu's so don't misunderstand my review. The service and the ambiance (in the bar area) is impeccable and beyond critique. We did not have reservations for Thanksgiving because when I tried to make them they said they were booked and not taking them anymore. They said to just walk in and they would do their best to seat us and they did. First at a tiny table that I would have been good with but they moved us to a real table shortly thereafter. We wanted to watch the football game and both tables would have worked for that. Did I mention that the service was perfect? The wait staff could not have done more to accommodate us, they did everything effortlessly. Now the food. Not only was everything except the gravy just one notch above TV dinner fare, but they pretty much quit bringing it out around 6 when the buffet was supposed to go until 8. There was no pumpkin pie available when we were looking for it and very few desert items left at that. Needless to say that I will probably not be going to Lulu's for the food unless they get a new chef or up their game a whole lot. I have been to several buffet's in Vegas, Hawaii as well as Redding and this was by far the worst.
