This is my second year celebrating National Lobster Day at Luke's Lobster and getting the $20 lobster roll. The lobster was good, and I really enjoyed it. The quarter-pound lobster roll has about 4 oz of lobster. The regular price is $31, so you can't beat getting it for $20 during this special promotion. The complimentary Cape Cod Sea Salt & Vinegar chips were also a nice combination with the lobster roll. Overall, I enjoyed the lobster roll, especially for the $20 price. Had my eye on this place for my Boston itinerary and to my surprise it was right by my hotel on an SF work trip! I love lobster rolls and it was amazing here! It was tasty and they stack it with a lot of butter. It is a bit pricey but it's a lobster, got the medium for around $40 which is standard pricing for a lobster roll, but this place packs it with A LOT of lobster! Their clam chowder was very good as well and came with a good amount of crackers. Service was really nice and personable here, they had a two person crew that got the job done and was so friendly to me and my wife. I got the lobster roll "combo" but ordered cider instead of a drink and fries instead of chips-- whole meal came out to $60+ because they wouldn't give any discount for substitutions, which I found to be a little money-grabby. Solid lobster roll, packed with your choice of oz meat and tucked into a nice buttery roll. We tried both the lobster roll and crab roll for good measure and I would say the crab one was slightly more sweet. But that could be the nature of crab. We thought the chowder was pretty solid as well we found some big clam chunks as well as the classic potatoes. It was creamy but not overly rich and heavy. We had to take a 20 minute Uber ride to get here but it was SO worth it! I'm always on the hunt for a good lobster roll and this did not disappoint. First off, Trevor was so warm and friendly. OK, first of all the customer service was amazing. 10 out of 10. there seemed to be one guy working on a Monday at lunchtime and he took the time to talk to me about the options before I ordered and then he went back to make my sandwich. I had been walking through the city doing other things and I went right by this place that had a sign for lobster rolls. So of course I went in. I got a crab roll and then walked a couple of blocks down to the water to sit and eat it. It was absolutely delicious! Very sweet crab that was definitely very fresh. I got the smaller size because it comes in two different sizes, but it was plenty of food for me. A nice buttery roll filled with a ton of crab. And just a little hit of the special seasoning that they have. It kind of tastes like old bay. It comes with chips and a drink and they have really good drinks available (think jaritos, San pelegrino, spindrift...) and a couple different kinds of chips. This is our second time in. We first went on 12/21 and the owner (I think) let us know he was limited on menu items because of the power black out that happened. We could only get the regular lobster roll and clam chowder. It was 10/10 both in service and food. So we had to come back and this time we got the lobster roll flight, a crab roll, lobster grilled cheese and clam chowder again because it's needed on cold days! I love that it taste so fresh. How ironic (and perfect!) to grab a crab sandwich right after a Giants game! After a long 4-hour Opening Day, we spotted Luke's and had to give it a try. Used to like the Luke's trio. Now they've made it 31$. Took away the fries it came with and force you to get a cheap bag of chips instead. And now to top it off. They require you to buy a 3$ water or 3$ soda or else you cant even order it. Also I've been inside this location and heard the employees complaining they had to make fries for an order. I love Luke's lobster! It's so good. I love their flights so I can try all the butters. I love their lobster. I love that it comes with a chips and drink. This is not a cheap lunch/meal by any means. I easily spend $45 here each time. My partner would like to second this and say "very expensive especially when going with girlfriend, but very worth it when girlfriend loves it." Lobster used to be a food for commoners but now it is pricey and probably more so here in SF when Luke's gets their lobsters from Maine. I have never had bad or chewy lobster here. It's always yummy and soft and flaky. Out of all their current styles, the truffle butter is INCREDIBLE. With the hot honey I felt like the sweetness masked the lobster flavor a bit. Luke's way (standard, butter and dill I think) is also great. You can get a 6oz roll for about the same price as the 3 2oz sampler. So, as a flavor sampler myself, this is the only way I roll. Fun fact, Luke's Lobster is a B Corp which means they uphold more sustainable practices, both environmentally and socially. It takes the sting out of the price a little knowing that it's a well run company trying to do good while also being in business. Order at the counter and grab a seat. I came across Luke's Lobster on Yelp when checking out spots to enjoy while on my recent visit to SanFran. I'm not usually a lobster roll kinda girl, but it's only been because I hadn't had 'the one' yet. I didn't love the cold concept and the warm version I had wasn't 'it'. But when I read reviews for Luke's, I knew it was worth checking it out. My hotel was located in Union Square which isn't super far from this location so I figured it'd make a nice dinner in my hotel and a great way for me to get my steps in. When I visited on an early Friday evening, there was one guy sitting and enjoying his food and two team members in the back. Pretty quiet for a Friday but no complaints from me! Despite reviewing the menu dozens of times before I went in, I still didn't know what I wanted, lol. The staff was so patient and kind, I'm sure they were wishing that I'd hurry up and order! I finally decided to go with the combo including a small lobster roll, a bowl of clam chowder and a drink. I had my heart set on the lobster bisque but the gentleman who rang me up promised me that it'd be some of the best clam chowder that I've ever had. Sold. The price felt like a down payment on a home, but eggs are like $25 these days so my girl math made it even. I was tempted to stay and enjoy the peace of the restaurant but decided to walk back to my hotel. I was so happy to get back to my hotel and realize that my chowder was still warm - yay! Let me say. The guy at Luke's was not lying, it was some of the best clam chowder that I've ever had. If not #1, then #2. It was so flavorful, not too thick or thin, it was filled with clams and potatoes. Wow. I was exhausted from work and super hungry, I was going to go get something totally different however I saw them from across the street and all of a sudden I found myself in there. The person (gosh I wish I caught the name) she was signaling to me she would be with me in a moment and after a couple of minutes she went to go grab someone to help me, he gets to the register and poor guy I feel like I confused him but he was patient and really kind and we got my order put in. I got the Mariners special and I apologized to the guy for being so confusing with the lack of me reading the menu right we both laughed and I went to sit down. Excellent lobster rolls! The lobster meat is generous, fresh, and slightly sweet. The bread is beautifully crunchy on the lightly spread surface with a chewy soft inside. I have now been to two locations of Luke's, the lobster rolls are fantastic! Honestly some of the best I've ever had. They do not skip out, there is some major meat in these rolls. Worth every penny. The bread has this beautiful buttery crust on it and a soft center. This Sammy is a 10 in my book it melts in your mouth. The clam chowder wasn't as creamy as I had hoped, so I'd pass on that next time. But if you like a less creamy chowder the flavor it self was great. read more

Luke's is one of the best lobster roll places in the area - my personal favorite. It's a casual, but clean, space. Surprisingly quant and quiet in the city, and affordable in my opinion (I pay much more for lobster rolls at home with no ocean access!) The menu is small, but if there's anything I've learned about restaurants, it's that a smaller menu typically means higher quality food - and Luke's is absolutely that! As someone who is from a landlocked state, the fresh lobster was a god send! Buttery and soft, not rubbery, and on a toasted bun. I ordered the classic lobster roll and would 10/10 order again. But honestly- I imagine anything from Luke's is spectacular! The staff is also really nice, always greeting with friendly faces, and quick to prep and serve. So one day, out of the blue I decided to try Luke's Trio (2 oz. each of lobster, shrimp, and crab) via delivery which had a bit of everything. Luke's is located in the financial district bordering SOMA. Thought they all tasted okay. Small sized but it does seemed like they packed everything very tightly. The lemon butter tasted bland tho. And I'm a bit mad that I paid for extra. The lobster bisque was good but salty. I love the cute packaging art on the box and bag. First and foremost the lobster was absolutely fantastic. They prepared it absolutely perfectly, just as a traditional lobster roll should be prepared. The toast was aptly buttered, and the lobster was super fresh and its essence exactly as if it came directly from a wharf or a boat. Not kidding. Secondly, the ambiance has that kitchy wharf sea feel with no Ikea furniture. I loved it. Finally, the head chef there personally prepared our lunch and made sure that everything was to taste. He definitely loves working with customers and chose the line of work because he loves it and the type of food he serves.
