Quite a yummy snack-a-roo. There are sweet ones, there are savory ones. There are hot ones, there are cold ones. Everyday, you should get one. All are small and not very tall. On our girls' trip, we did a walking tour and was told that we needed to try this place. They serve the popular food of Milan. I was impressed that the line to place an order was long, when there were other eateries in the vicinity. While I didn't order anything, I tried pieces from my friends. And oh gosh, it was good!! We walked away and when I looked at the line, I didn't want to stand there. Of course, I was disappointed but satisfied that I was able to taste it. It was gooey with cheese and had a buttery flavor. So delicious!! If you get a chance, stop in and try one.
Ask any Milanese what they had as a kid and all of them have mentioned this place at least once, and it's pretty clear why. Panzerotto Luini serves fried and baked pastries, and is right in the middle of Milan's downtown area between the Galleria, Duomo, and other really prominent landmarks, so you know this place will be PACKED. Yeah, the wait was long but totally worth it, especially since they have 4 identical lines where they have 4 of the same items in a row. I ordered the Luini Classico, Luini Misto, Cannoncini, Luini Dolce, and 2 Pane Dolce-Cremo. Note that they don't have everything out on the menu at once since they go through theirenu fast, so don't have your heart set out on trying to get a particular item if they run out of something. Baked and fried goods galore regardless of what you get. Luini Classico: 5/5 The Citizen Kane of Italian hot pockets. Perfection in 2.60 euros a Panzerotto. I got mine baked and it was perfectly flakey while staying firm. Really good stuff. Misto: 5/5 I think this one had the ham and cheese and it was superb too. Honestly can't go wrong with this or the Classico but today both were available. Very warm which is great for a cold day in December. Cannoncini: 5/5 A Genoese special in Milan, and it was also superb! Honestly can't go wrong with it. Pane Dolce-Cremo 4.5/5: Cream filled donut balls, but Italian and solid. I'm normally not a fan but it works well. Luini Dolce: 4/5 A hardish toffee with nuts, it was interesting to have but not my favorite thing here. Overall, this is Italian Fast Food at its best. If I come to Milan again I'm definitely stopping by here again.
I read about this place before visiting Milan but didn't really look for where it is located. So I was happy to see it while walking around Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It is a small shop with a lot of options to choose. We saw there was on line at the front entrance, so, we went to order a Ham & Mozzarella Panzerotti to try. I was kind of disappointed with it as all the videos I saw on YouTube was the mozzarella cheese was smooth and melting with a first bite. My was just like a piece of cheese stuffed with a small ham inside a fried dough. I guess it must be the time (5pm) we visited with not many people. I bet they didn't keep the panzerotti warmed to keep the cheese from stiffening. Maybe the best time to try is when there is a long line of people, so, they would keep making fresh out of oven panzerotti.
A lifesaver when you're visiting the Duomo! Although the line seems intimidating at first, it goes by super fast (there are, however, no places to sit). The panzerotti is basically yeasty fry bread stuffed with tomato sauce and hot salami--in my opinion the better version of pizza. And they're only €3 so an absolute steal! I would warn against the anchovy panzerotti...unless you like anchovies. Otherwise, don't get it.
Had a short break during my city tour of Milan, and came here. The panzerotto was warm and pillowy good. I had the panzerotto del giorno of funghi e ricotta. Unfortunately, I agree with the other reviews that, although good, it had more dough than fillings. There were two relatively long lines but they moved quickly. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I can check this off my list but sadly I wasn't impressed.
In a high tourist area, it is hard to find a reasonably priced meal that still gives you a feel for the cultural cuisine. Luini is located just around the bend from the Duomo and delivers all of the above. Do not be turned away by the line up because they are very efficient and the line moves very quickly. We ordered one savory and one sweet to share and it was the perfect afternoon snack for two people. I would suggest ordering a couple more if you would like a full meal. The pastry on both were flaky and light, so it was not greasy or too heavy. Also, do not get too set on which flavor you would like because they maybe sold out or not making that particular one that day! Still worth a try for a quick and economical meal.
I'm having serious withdrawals and cravings for some Luini goodies. Wish there was a location in south Florida. This is legit...The BEST casual street food you can get in Milan. This location was a few hundred feet away from the hotel we were staying at. The first day when we were checking in, there were atleast 100 people waiting in line for some Luini. We knew that something good was inside that pick up restaurant. I did my research as soon as we checked into our hotel. A bit of a story behind this pick up shop, Giuseppina Luini came to Milan from Puglia. With her came the idea of making panzerottis. Panzerotti is a savory treat with with a fluffy dough filled with whatever flavors they put in it. All I know is that whatever flavors I tried, mozzarella with tomatoes or cheese with onion etc... It was the softest dough baked good I ate in my life. We ate this almost everyday on the go in between lunch or dinner. The prefect snack and happiness in a bite of Milan. The locals love it as do the tourists. The line moves fast or if you are staying near it, go walk by it a couple of times in a day and sometimes there is a line of only a few people. But I promise you, it's worth the wait. ~
Luini is a must try but be ready to wait!!! This place is so delicious! They have different bake/fried stuffed pastries. You can get savory or sweet and you won't go wrong with either. We bought various flavors and it was hard to pick a favorite one. For savory, we had: * Ricotta and Spinach (my favorite) *Tomato and Mozzarella (taste like pizza) *Ham and Cheese (classic) *Hot salami and Mozzarella ( husband's favorite) For sweet, we had: *Plums, apples and walnuts * Pear and Chocolate ( my favorite, perfect combo) *Figs, walnuts and cocoa This place is super close to the Duomo. If you are in the area, give it a try.

I absolutely LOVE Luini! If you're near the Duomo area, precisely right by the McDonald's and the cioccolatitaliani gelateria, first of all, SKIP McDonald's and go straight to Luini's. When you first get there, there will be two long lines, one on the left and one on the right. No one likes lines, supermarket lines, roller coaster lines, well you get the point. Let's just say, there's no other line that I'd rather do but this one! It's sooooooo worth the wait! Plus, if you see a line here, you know you have to try it. They make their specialty: panzerotto. This is fried pizza dough in the shape of an "empanada" filled with tomato and mozzarella, mozzarella and hot salami, ricotta and spinach, mixed vegetables, etc. They don't have a huge selection of them, however, the few flavors they have are the BEST! If you're feeling a little light, you may go for the oven baked option. But then again, when in Italy, do like Italians! I would go straight to the fried ones. The dough is light and fluffy and not too oily. When you bite into it the strings of mozzarella melt away. Sooooo yummy! This place is a little hole in the wall with lots of character. It's been here for ages! All the panzerotti are to go and they don't have a place to sit. But don't worry, plenty of sidewalk space right in front. Or, you can also take your panzerotto and sit by the Duomo steps and enjoy a nice little snack. You've got to try this place if you're in Milano! It's so yummy and delicious :) read more

The tomato and mozzarella salt Luini was soo yummy! There's always lines at their little shop, at every hour of the day! That itself says a lot about the place! Since they're so busy always, the Luinis are always fresh and right out of the oven. The service is super fast! The only downside is that they close early, around 5 or so. I loved eating here for a quick bite when I didn't have time to get real pizza or real food. The luinis were so filling and tasty! read more
What can I say about this place? If you don't try to get panzerotti in Milan, you probably need a lobotomy. You can't really compare it to anything, like a calzone or hot pocket, it's just magic in bready form with enchanting fillings of your choosing which can be baked or fried. I got the prosciutto cotto and mozzarella panzerotti and the kiddos got the nutella kind - as predicted. Mine was simply magic in the forest. This place is convenient, but the lines tend to be long. Be careful not to end up in the cash only line, which tends to be shorter. The second line from the left is cash only, just FYI. read more
Tasty, fried, and plenty of oil my salami and cheese sandwich was just what I needed to get rid of the stomach rumbles. As others have said, don't be daunted by the lines. They all move quickly. They have many different options of sandwiches both salty and sweet. Take a look at their menu if you are unsure before getting in line. From the time we joined the line (near another restaurant) to when we ordered was about 15 minutes. Easily worth it! read more

If you like calzones, then a panzerotti is a must-have if you're visiting Milan. Luini is a Milan institution. The line could snake around the block, but don't let that deter you. It moves shockingly fast. There also isn't any seating, so plan for a quick grab-and-go lunch and sit by the cathedral. There are both sweet and savory options. We didn't order any sweet ones, but the savory ones were excellent. The prosciutto and cheese was good--the dough was soft and the ingredients are tucked nicely (nothing oozing out). We did wish the cheese was a bit more melted though. Best Menu Item? The classic panzerotti, cheese and tomato sauce. Takes pizza to the next level. Make sure to complement this meal with a slice of Spontini pizza across the street! read more
The perfect street food--grab it, eat it. A delicious snack you can eat right out of your hand; no need for fork and knife. Before coming to Milan, I didn't even know that panzerotti were a thing. Walking by Luini, we saw the long lines, figured it must be worth the wait, and it was! The fried ones taste like a savory doughnut, filled with whatever deliciousness you want--cheese and tomato sauce, a variety of meats, spinach, etc. The sweet ones are made from a short pastry dough that's not too sweet, but flakey and delicious. If you're in need of a snack, don't miss Luini. read more

So GOD DAMN GOOD! I wanted to go here twice.. no three times.. during my trip in Italy; however, due to the Easter holiday weekend, I only ate here once. However, it was AMAZING! First off, it's dirt cheap, like 2 Euro and something. Second, it's quick come and go. Luckily, I came in when they had a new hot batch. We ate their typical and popular one which came with mozzarella (ooey and gooey!) and tomato. It's SO GOOD! It's basically a calzone but better. The bread.. not sure what's in it.. is so simple yet yummy and tasty. AHH I still remember the taste in my mouth and now my mouth is salivating. But seriously.. YOU HAVE TO GO HERE. I'm so sad I live a continent away. Other than that.. logistically, it's around the corner of the Duomo, right by the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel. It'a actually next to a Japanese restaurant named Omusubi and right by a gelato place called Ciccolato. Also this place is a locals' favorite. read more

A must-eat in Milan : Panzerotti. It is fried dough with stuff inside. The classic is with tomato and mozzarella. Luini is famous for the Panzerotti and located perfectly for tourists (near Duomo) to stop by and grab one. I would recommend it as a snack and just share it with your friend since there's much tastier food that you should fill your tummy with in Milan. We got the classic one but the sweet ones also looked really good. Maybe next time! read more
Panzerottis, you will be missed. Best ever and they are delicious. We tried to go back another day but they were closed and we were depressed. We tried three types: tomato and cheese, salami, and the ham and cheese. All were so delicious and under 3 euros each. Great for a quick lunch or snack. read more

Cheap filling food. Not much of a line in the middle of the afternoon. My spicy pepperoni and mozzarella was more bread than anything. The bread comes off a bit sweet but it's nice and fried but not greasy. I like that it's hand held inexpensive food behind the Duomo. read more

There is a reason that there is a long line of fans lining this place. It is that good. As many have noted, if you come at a peak time, expect a line. But the line does move rather fast. I like the fried version over the baked. We all know that fried generally tastes better, but less healthier. It tastes like tasty fried dough with filling in the middle. If you are in the area, this is one that should not be missed. Almost all the guide books talk about this place. It has been around a long time. You don't stay in business for a long time without doing something right. This place gets it right. Prices are very reasonable and food is good. I uploaded a picture of the menu in English, so that should help those that do not read Italian. Now go try it when you are in Milan's Duomo area. read more
I really don't understand the hype around this one. Tried the classic fried panzerotti (tomato and mozz), spinach and ricotta, and the baked vegetable one. There was too much dough and not enough filling for all of them. Really nothing special. Only plus was that everything was cheap, but CASH ONLY read more

NO CREDIT CARDS!? Oh god, seriously the one which is considered the best panzerotti place in the whole town does not accept credit cards. Wake up Luini, this is not the medieval age anymore, it's 2014 people use credit cards. They deserve a 1-star review for not accepting any kind of credit card. The food tho. Everyone who has lived in Milano knows Luini. And omg I loved the food, it was great. As soon as I got back to my city, Milano, I wanted to get more but guess what?? I was arriving straight from the airport and I didn't have any Euro in cash so goodbye dear Luini, I'm not going to cash out just because you don't accept my credit cards, I'll go to Spontini instead (they accept credit cards). Concluding: -food is great -staff not particularly -the credit card problem should be solved immediately and people should put pressure on them. If it won't be solved anytime soon, I'll change my review to 3-stars one. BEWARE DEAR LUINI! read more

Been here multiple times and love their panzerottis. For those who don't know, I'd describe a panzerotti as a cross between a calzone and a doughnut. It has the same fillings as a calzone but it's bread is very similar to a doughnut. One tip, they are more filling than they look, eat two at a time with caution. :P In any case, the food is great and there are always people in line, and since there is no seating, there are tons of people eating outside. My only issue are that it's signs are small and I can never remember where it is located. It's often easier to look for 'Cioccolati Italiani' which is right across the street from it (and amazing as well). read more
Incredible is the only word that describes my experience at this hole in the wall, longtime food establishment. You could easily miss this place if you weren't looking for it. It's nothing fancy at all. There aren't even any tables where you can sit. But, let me tell you, the panzerotti is unforgetable and delicious. How can something so simple be so incredibly delicious? We got the traditional panzerotti, which is fried and filled with mozzarella and pomodoro. It's savory, sweet, crunchy and fluffy all at the same time. First we ordered one to share. Then we got 2 more. Then we came back the next day. And the day after. It's that good. This place has had a prime location in the middle of Milan since 1888. There's a reason that it has been doing so well for this long! I recommend checking it out if you find yourself in Milan. Tip: They do not take credit cards. read more

How can something so damn simple be so damn delicious! I passed by this gem with my wife as we were walking back to our hotel and we saw the ruckus forming in front of the restaurant. I said hey it's got to be good if there's such a big line for it right? Well after 15 min in line we were treated to what i can describe only as a fried bread sandwich stuffed prosciutto and mozzarella cheese (think of empanadas). My wife had the stuffed spinach and ricotta panzoritti....now although these treats are comparable to empanadas they hold their own weight due to the amazing ingredients, the great ambience, and the simplistic nature of the dish. I mean the cheese just oozes out of the bread after your initial first bite and immediate what crosses your mind is "how could something so simple be so delicious" well I'll tell you why... I noticed that this establishment has been making them for over 100 years (from the plaque on the wall) and if you've been cooking something for that long, chances are, you've perfected the process. So if you're looking g for something quick, on the go, and delicious while you're in Milan then I highly highly recommend it! read more
Definitely worth the wait in their long lines. They actually move pretty fast. Here you can get get either a pasty filled with mozzarella & stuff or opt for the sweet filling. I opted for the mozzarella & salami combo & it was very tasty. Think small calzone & it's gently fried or baked, to perfection. The bread is perfect, thick and tasty. Then the filling is amazing! The long lines is a perfect indicator of how delicious it all is. English speaking folks, I was very relieved when I got to the inside & there was an English menu. Came here after the recommendation from our tour guide. Luckily there was no line when we got there. I got one sweet baked dessert panzerotti and one fried savory panzerotti. The savory one has spinach and mozzarella as the filling. It was delicious! The bite will melt in your mouth. And for dessert I tried the pear filling. The baked crust didn't seem too special, it was just like any other baked dessert so it was just average. read more

Definitely worth the wait of the long line. The line moves quickly anyway. These thing remind me of unsweetened donuts filled with deliciousness. Hat a tomato mozzarella, very very good. Great casual place to have something unique to the area. We had the classic mozzarella/tomato, and also tried the salami one. Both were great.. but i preferred the classic one better. wish we had more time to try a bunch more of the food. read more

It doesn't look like much but it is a foodgasm in your mouth. Luini's Panzerotti, Milan's must-try item. A simple fluffy pastry filled with oozy meat and cheese, much lighter and more addicting than it looks. We sampled a savory version - the ham and cheese and were transported. It definitely lived up to the hype. The line was already substantial when we arrived, 2 lines with dozens of ppl winding down the streets. However we were lucky as the line moved quickly, about a 10 minute wait. However an hour later when we were already craving another taste, this time of the prosciutto version, the line had quadrupled and more. Throngs of ppl filling the street in front of the little restaurant. Watch out for the peak times! Go a little early! It is also excellently located right next to the Plaza Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel and LaScalla Opera House. read more

So good. I didn't know what to expect at first because I did not even know what a panzerotti was. I just saw that it was a popular spot in Milan and wanted to try it. I got the tomato and mozzarella panzerotti. The breading was delicious, it kind of tasted like an unsweetened donut and the inside was filled with cheesy goodness. It was the perfect snack. read more

A friend who lives in Milan suggested us to go here. And we've gone several times over the two weeks we've been in Milan. The first time we went there was no line - we just walked in. But, alas, w every amazing place that's not par the usual. The next times we went there were two lines going out either door - but they moved very quickly. I don't mess around - I went straight for what they're famous for - my bf, on the other hand, wasted a visit on a calzone w anchovies in it. Ew. The Luini Fritti is what you're looking for. My favorite is the one w Spinach (Spinaci) and Ricotta in it. But I've seen them change up the others - onion tomato and cheese, tomato sausage and cheese, anchovies tomato and cheese. The little pockets of deliciousness are made w what tastes like doughnut dough (I know it sounds weird but TRUST ME) that's not sweet and filled w fresh amazing ingredients on the inside.
