After numerous years of trips for business to Italy and Milan I finally found a place that can serve a decent cup of coffee and who actually cares about what goes into it. The people at Taglio offer a wide variety of specialty coffee from different origins and where one can select the method (V60, Aeropress etc). Execution is good but their own roast is good (don't get me wrong it totally beats anything else from Italy) but they also have coffee from other roasters. All together the coffee itself is a reason to visit but Taglio is so much more as they also serve excellent food. The pasta I had was a nice example of well-made uncomplicated food. They are also a deli so sell a lot of charcuteries and cheeses as well as other food items (tea, coffee, beverages, granola etc) The service was nice, friendly, mostly English speaking and fairly fast and they also have free wifi (however with mandatory facebook login) so a place I will visit again. Only minor drawback would be the price level - dinner easily came to €50 per head and while not super-expensive it is still a bit on the high side for more of a neighborhood place. read more

Taglio was a highlight of our dining experience while in Milano. The service was exceptionally friendly and pleasant. The interior was charming and spacious. The option to order brunch after noon was a wonderful surprise and most welcome to California tourists such as ourselves. We ordered the tagliere (salumi platter) and eggs Benedict. Delicious. We dined in the back room overlooking the industrious kitchen. Both male and female chefs! I highly recommend this charming, spacious restaurant/deli in the Navigli district. read more

We really really enjoyed this place. For one, it's located in the Navigli district! Cute area that is with its little canal way and bridges. Another awesome thing - the restaurant itself. It's like a little storefront and cafe especially in front. The little back area is more of a dining area where you can see and hear the chefs right behind you cooking away :) The food was amazing. I had some kind of gnocchi in a way I havent had it before. Super tasty soft beef sauce with those perfectly texture gnocchi. Oh my lord. Plus the wait staff and chefs were so adorable chattering with each other and delivering espressos to the chefs and bustling around doing Italian things! Stopped for dinner. Loved the decor immediately. The restaurant was stacked with books and images, and on the left, you can see the kitchen and chefs working their magic. The server who helped us was really good about describing the items we were curious about, and answered all the questions we had to the best of his ability in English. We had the horse meat fillet, and the Milanese risotto. Both were absolutely delicious and portions were good. They didn't charge for water and bread, which is a nice surprise. There was variety in the bread basket too! All in all, one of the top three meals we've had in Italy this month (eating out twice or thrice a day). read more

Being Taglio the first place I visited when back in Italy, I couldn't be happier. As you get in you are surrounded by cheeses and other Italian delicatessens. The food and the wine was great too. We started off with eggs benedict with salmon - very delicate flavor, salmon only lightly smoked - definitely well executed. Then we went on and ordered maccheroni with slow cooked oxtail ragu and pork shank with potatoes. Both dishes had a very sweet and delicate note, characteristic of the Italian northern cosine. The maccheroni were very al dente, for some people definitely not cooked enough: if it was by choice, I agree with the boldness, but if it was a mistake, well.. We'll never know. I was quite disappointed that the ragu had small bits of bones, which you cannot accept with a 16€ pasta dish. The 6€ glass of red wine we had was excellent and perfectly paired with our food. Bill was 80€ for 1 egg Benedict, 2 mains, 2 desserts, 2 glasses of wine, water and coffee. I'd definitely go back and taste more, it's a great place serving good traditional Italian food.. At a mid-high price and with small mistakes here and there. read more

Taglio is where the locals go for an American style brunch (case in point: my Italian friends brought me here). Italians do not traditionally eat eggs in the morning, but here they have several different types of benedict, which are actually quite impressive. I opted for the Minestrone because I wanted something a bit lighter and more Italian, and it definitely tasted homemade (very hearty) and was one best minestrones I've had (at 15 EUR, I'd hope it would be!). I also tried my friend's risotto, which as cooked traditional Italian style with peas and not too creamy, much different than what I'm used to getting in the US. I'd call Taglio an Italian restaurant with an American flare - which worked! I had the tiramisu for dessert which I thought was amazing, however my Italian friends said the cookies were too hard. Service is a bit slow, but we didn't mind as we were enjoying the company. read more

We came in because we found ourselves ravenous at 4:30 pm. While dinner wasn't yet available, they did make us a very delicious cheese and meat platter. We lingered over the plate and our wine long enough that dinner started. I was too stuffed to get anything, but my husband got the Milanese schnitzel (or cotoletta), which is the local specialty. Except that the chef here put a modern and incredibly delicious twist on it, serving it with almond slivers and orange zest. The next day, despite the plethora of food options in the area, my husband wanted to go back! It helped that the staff was incredibly nice too. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Maybe one of the most disappointing meals (and experiences) that I've had in a very long time, and definitely the worst, over-priced breakfast that I've had in the past three weeks in Europe. 15 Euro for a cold, under-cooked egg, on some cold-cuts and burnt toast. The hollandaise sauce was nice (yet cold). The waitress was nice enough to take it back and have them cook it again, but the damage was done. You could say it was my fault for ordering an Eggs Bene in Italia, but it was supposedly a highlight on some other reviews... In addition, my wife had an 8 Euro omelet that was clearly overcooked, albeit hot. Not all was bad, as the service was super friendly, the music was solid and coffees hit the spot. I love the decor and the feel of the place, but am flummoxed by the extremely poor execution on the food - this is a restaurant... anyway, extremely disappointed and hopefully some of you can avoid making the same mistake. read more

Got in at 7pm and yup we were way too early. Despite that the staff was exceptionally welcoming. So started with plate of salami with a sottoli salentini. Boy oh boy we had at least 7 cuts of meat and they were just fabulous! The cheeses which i can't named were great. A wonderful start before the kitchen opens at 7:30pm. Now the appetizers Fassona steak tartare was a little chewy not the best we had thus far so i would skip this. Baked Artichoke was alright not mind blowing. The cotolet was the thick cut came with baked potatoe. Again was good but exceptional. All in all a 120.50 Eur dinner perhaps should have gone easier on the apperitive stuff read more

The eggs were very badly undercooked with the whites almost completely liquid, no side garnish and a small slice of average quality salmon. We also ordered a soy cappuccino that we could not drink because the soy milk had turned and we had to send it back, ordered a filter coffee that arrived at room temperature and I had to ask them to put it in the microwave. What a pity, the place looks amazing and the staff is very friendly and welcoming but there are unending opportunities in Milan to get better portions and great quality food for 40 Euros for two people. read more

Taglio is cute, cozy and delicious. I came here after just arriving in Milan and walking around the amazing flea market and I'm so glad it was my first meal in Italy. The service was phenomenal and the server did all he could to help us order and help translate what we wanted and recommended a wine that we really enjoyed. This is the type of place that I would love to have back at home in NYC where the menu is a little different, and everything just feels pleasant. We got the spaghetti with lamb and the chicken dish with bell peppers and arugula. The spaghetti noodles tastes homemade. It was made very well. The lamb did not have a strong taste, could have passed for pulled pork because it was so tender. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful. Portion sizes are a little small for the price but the quality of the food was well worth it. Tip: Make reservations on a busy night. read more

Taglio was a great find in Milano. It is a relitively small restaurant that evolved out of a coffee shop and speciality store. You can still buy items such as coffee, cheese, pasta, etc. but the food is worth the trip on its own. The menu changes often but the Caprese with Stracciatelia cheese was fantastic. An appetizer, a Primi Platti (eggplant parmesan), a Secondi Platti (spaghetti in fish & tomato sauce) with a nice bottle of wine ~ 65 euro. Highly recommend. read more

Excellent restaurant that felt a lot like local, American cuisine spots here in NYC. They seated us without a reservation on a Monday night though prob. better to try to get one.
