I found it astonishingly amazing how my experience with this place went from good to bad unexpectedly. I'm very sorry I didn't read the yelp reviews beforehand. The place looks nice and the employees are dressed well, but those are all the positives I have to say about this place. I ordered a fillet, medium. It came out almost like beef tartar. I sent it back to the kitchen and it came back out hardly cooked any more at all as it was still mostly very raw inside. So the third time I ordered it well done and it came back medium-well, and finally edible. But it had so little flavor, salt, pepper, or any other spice. The vegetables were the same potatoes were very bland. For some reason they gave me some slivers of cheese and a charred onion that wasn't worth eating. It's so amazing how this place stays in business, because only a small percentage of people inside seemed to be tourists. read more

Worst restaurant and service we had in italy. Chicken came raw and was returned, they did not bother to comp the meal. They kept bringing the wrong food to the wrong people and did not bring everyone's meal at the same time. Food was bland and boring and raw. Our concierge recommended this restaurant to us and I am sure glad he did. My wife had the Osso Bucco, me the Cotoletta, both serves with risotto Milanese. A new glass of Pio Cesari Barolo, a torta (flourless chocolate cake with crème Angeles and a couple of macchiatos and we were done. Outstanding food and friendly service. Al Cantinone was somewhat disappointing this trip to Milan. We ordered our usual Cotoletta di Vitello Milanese (veal) with a saffron risotto and Spinach and ricotta ravioli topped with a walnut and ricotta cream sauce. I asked would it be possible to have the ravioli to be cooked a little longer and was told no problem. The ravioli dish arrived and it was absolutely beautiful. It had a great taste but was not cooked more. The walnut sauce was great although needed a bit of salt to step up the flavors. The veal was much thicker than a typical Milanese style they had previously served. It was average in taste, I think they forgot to season it and it was like warm. Had to flag down waitress to get lemon wedges. The flavors finally came together. Now for the saffron risotto- it looked like it had been sitting for a long time. It didn't have that buttery saffron on n taste one looks for. It was kind of thick and gooey. Disappointed. We had to ask for numerous things and they appeared at random. Service was average at best. Food was above average because of the beauty of the ravioli dish. Atmosphere was dead when we arrive but picked up about 1:30PM and was totally packed when we departed. Atmosphere is still a classic. We were on our last night in Milan and dinner had to be traditional, which can mean risotto most of the time. We each had a risotto dish, I had the traditional Milanese style with saffron, rice and my wife had a risotto with Gorgonzola cheese (her fave). I had a glass of white wine (Ferghettina) with my meal and we shared a sparkling mineral water. This place is very much for tourists and probably not many locals eat here, just a hunch. Please avoid this restaurant. I had a very disappointing experience there. I never write negative reviews. This is my first. I ordered what the menu calls traditional lasagne. I love lasagne, and I have had it all over Italy. Just recently in Rome and Florence, this was the worst for sure. I had one bite and I knew there was an issue. I very politely addressed this with the server. She brought me more sauce, but it was lipstick on a pig. It was still awful. The manager came to discuss. His statement was that I would have to pay for it, although I had only a few bites, and he said I can take it home, and offered no options other than that. He said he wouldn't let me choose anything else as he didn't want to find something I might like. Very odd!!! I was very polite and calm. And I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The server also never smiled ever, even before the issue. Not a welcoming experience. Maybe the reason the server never smiled was they have management issues. In any event, I would avoid this place. At the bill, he dropped $8 off, although the lasagne is $18. With that they are saying they will comp part of the cost of the issue but not provide good customer service when the issue is first addressed. The restaurant is super close to Duomo and you can enjoy a walk in the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuela to get there. Just few steps from the duomo and you don't feel you are in a tourist trap. On the contrary the place is so nice and warm it has tables to eat outside and a very nice and quiet room inside. Menu is very interesting and not the typical super long list of fake Italian dishes you would expect to find in a this area . Antipasti - Primi - Secondi - Salads as in the real Italian tradition. You want to feel Milano? Go with risotto zafferano , cotoletta milanese and drink a good wine from the north. But if you want to experience a whole Italian food experience just read the menu it contains the most representative dishes from the Italian cuisine ( we loved rigatoni al ragù and gnocchi fuori di zucca e guanciale ). Ambience is good. Sadly, food and management are anything but. Two out of three entrees were overcooked. The second bottle of wine had excessive sediment after two glasses had been poured and was undrinkable. The manager refused any compensation or deduction from the bill on the grounds some of the bottle had been consumed. Great little spot just a touch away from Cathedral. Service was fast and welcoming. Fod was very Milanese:) I used to live around here and I know that italian food is not what you get used to in Usa.. it is soooo much better, tastier, simpler.. fresh.. i loved it. We had some minestrone and I had steak Milanese. My husband went with Ossobuco. Both amazing. Very flavorful. It is a bit on the pricier side so be aware of that. We had lunch at the Trattoria this afternoon, our first day in Milano. For our appetizer we shared - Fiori di zucca in pastella ripieni di ricotta vaccina e filetto (Fried batter courgettes flowers with ricotta and anchovies). It was excellent, the best one of these, out of the 3 or 4 I might have ever had in my life, eaten. Lynn ordered the Risotto alla Milanese, the parmesan cheese was exquisite and the risotto very good. I had the Ravioli di magro con vellutata di ricotta e noci which was good. Also ordered a glass of their only Amarone wine, available by the glass, and it was also excellent and worth the EU22. Would definitely recommend if you are in the Duomo area of Milan. read more

Came for a solo lunch today as a solo tourist today. Nice service with English speaking servers. Menu is in Italian with descriptions in English. I asked for a suggestion between 2 dishes and the hostess suggested the salmon pasta dish. I then ordered a white wine to go with it. Can't say no to a 4€ glass of wine. It was very good, so smooth and not acidic like a lot of white wine I've had in the USA. The pasta dish unique to me and I enjoyed it. The pasta comprised large tubes of fresh pasta, cooked with a nice al dente texture. The cream sauce was just right, not too heavy nor oversauced. The use of leeks and pistachio was unique. As a sit down restaurant, it is more costly than a bristot or cafe but not too expensive and the ambiance, decor, food and service more than qualify the price. I found out after that you could go next door for their bistrot for similar menu at half the price. Good service, good food. read more

3-1/2 stars, but bumping it up to 4 for the food itself. I arrived without a reservation at 7pm, and I was promptly seated. However, it took forever to get the menu, as well as order, even when it wasn't busy yet. That said, I wasn't a huge fan of the service. I ordered the ossobuco con risotto alla milanese, which was excellent. Portion size was just right, and the ossobuco being wonderfully tender and with plenty of fatty, juicy bone marrow inside. Risotto was extremely fragrant from the saffron infused into it; even though I'm not normally a huge fan of risotto, I enjoyed that one! This is a great place to enjoy buffet aperitivo close to Duomo. At 7 pm, we wandered into the restaurant, which was already packed, and waited for a table to open up. For the very reasonable price of 10 euros, we each ordered a spritz (available with juice, aperol or Campari) and helped ourselves to the buffet. Salami, eggplant, fried zucchini, bruschetta were all delicious. The staff was attentive and very patient with our poor Italian. We were also provided with free entrees of risotto and warm bread. Reasonably priced drink and appetizer special in the heart of the historic district. For $12 you get an aperol spritz or other drink from a provided menu and access to their hot and cold appetizers. They had vegetable and cheese frittata, sautéed bell peppers and eggplant, marinated tomatoes, beets, focaccia, among other items. You are also served a complimentary plate of cheesy risotto. We were there on a Thursday night at 8:30 and they closed at 9. The manager sent additional plates of risotto out to the patrons who were still there at 9 pm. An alright place that's tucked away a bit but still in a very busy touristy area. The food is decent, but everything is drenched in oil. My app, a bruschetta dish, was pretty good, with the exception of the bread being soaked wet in oil. And when I finished my mushroom tagliatelle, there was a centimeter of oil left at the bottom of my plate. Not very appetizing. To finish off, even the tiramisu seemed 'wet' and heavy - probably due to over-oil once again. Edit: got terrible food poisoning. Avoid. read more
