This is a must, fabulous menu, wines, desserts, and service. Very elegant interior serving delicious appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Highly recommend the filet Mignon dishes very tender and seasoned to perfection.

Pasta with black truffles, cheese, and chopped walnuts

Not sure why it had such a low score quite cozy nice restaurant right in the hearth of all the high end shops, great service, and tasty food, we had two of the classics from the region, the Veal ossobuco with milanese risotto, and the pasta with black truffle, chopped walnuts and cheese.

Cotoletta di Vitello alla Milanese and Saffron Risotto

Al Cantinone was somewhat disappointing this trip to Milan. We ordered our usual Cotoletta di Vitello Milanese (veal) with a saffron risotto and Spinach and ricotta ravioli topped with a walnut and ricotta cream sauce. I asked would it be possible to have the ravioli to be cooked a little longer and was told no problem. The ravioli dish arrived and it was absolutely beautiful. It had a great taste but was not cooked more. The walnut sauce was great although needed a bit of salt to step up the flavors. The veal was much thicker than a typical Milanese style they had previously served. It was average in taste, I think they forgot to season it and it was like warm. Had to flag down waitress to get lemon wedges. The flavors finally came together. Now for the saffron risotto- it looked like it had been sitting for a long time. It didn't have that buttery saffron on n taste one looks for. It was kind of thick and gooey. Disappointed. We had to ask for numerous things and they appeared at random. Service was average at best. Food was above average because of the beauty of the ravioli dish. Atmosphere was dead when we arrive but picked up about 1:30PM and was totally packed when we departed. Atmosphere is still a classic. Recommend for the experience and ambiance. Under $100 for a nice lunch for two. Probably will not return.

    My Ferghettina wine

We were on our last night in Milan and dinner had to be traditional, which can mean risotto most of the time. We each had a risotto dish, I had the traditional Milanese style with saffron, rice and my wife had a risotto with Gorgonzola cheese (her fave). I had a glass of white wine (Ferghettina) with my meal and we shared a sparkling mineral water. This place is very much for tourists and probably not many locals eat here, just a hunch. We had great service and our food was delicious and very filling. Good place for some good food.

Here is the bill. $8 off of $18 euro lasagne... very wierd...

Please avoid this restaurant. I had a very disappointing experience there. I never write negative reviews. This is my first. I ordered what the menu calls traditional lasagne. I love lasagne, and I have had it all over Italy. Just recently in Rome and Florence, this was the worst for sure. I had one bite and I knew there was an issue. I very politely addressed this with the server. She brought me more sauce, but it was lipstick on a pig. It was still awful. The manager came to discuss. His statement was that I would have to pay for it, although I had only a few bites, and he said I can take it home, and offered no options other than that. He said he wouldn't let me choose anything else as he didn't want to find something I might like. Very odd!!! I was very polite and calm. And I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The server also never smiled ever, even before the issue. Not a welcoming experience. Maybe the reason the server never smiled was they have management issues. In any event, I would avoid this place. At the bill, he dropped $8 off, although the lasagne is $18. With that they are saying they will comp part of the cost of the issue but not provide good customer service when the issue is first addressed. Very wierd, they acknowledge the issue financially but didn't want to find a positive solution when addressed. They seem desperate...

    Fresella con burrata

The restaurant is super close to Duomo and you can enjoy a walk in the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuela to get there. Just few steps from the duomo and you don't feel you are in a tourist trap. On the contrary the place is so nice and warm it has tables to eat outside and a very nice and quiet room inside. Menu is very interesting and not the typical super long list of fake Italian dishes you would expect to find in a this area . Antipasti - Primi - Secondi - Salads as in the real Italian tradition. You want to feel Milano? Go with risotto zafferano , cotoletta milanese and drink a good wine from the north. But if you want to experience a whole Italian food experience just read the menu it contains the most representative dishes from the Italian cuisine ( we loved rigatoni al ragù and gnocchi fuori di zucca e guanciale ). The wine list is impressive. We were greeted by the owner and even if super busy the servers were striving to give a good service.

Great little spot just a touch away from Cathedral. Service was fast and welcoming. Fod was very Milanese:) I used to live around here and I know that italian food is not what you get used to in Usa.. it is soooo much better, tastier, simpler.. fresh.. i loved it. We had some minestrone and I had steak Milanese. My husband went with Ossobuco. Both amazing. Very flavorful. It is a bit on the pricier side so be aware of that. But when you around here you can not to not stop by for classics. Atmosphere is great, interior is very very nice. We had good time. Thank you.

Foreground--mediocre starter (baked vegetables and buffalo mozzarella. Background--delicious risotto with burrata and crispy spek

Very mediocre--baked vegetables with buffalo mozzarella was very unexciting. The bread served for the table was very dry and flavorless. The risotto with burrata and crispy speck was delicious but did not make up for the rest of the meal.

Salmon pistachio and leek pasta 15€ with an Italian white wine 4€/glass, and complementary bread
    Pauline L.

Came for a solo lunch today as a solo tourist today. Nice service with English speaking servers. Menu is in Italian with descriptions in English. I asked for a suggestion between 2 dishes and the hostess suggested the salmon pasta dish. I then ordered a white wine to go with it. Can't say no to a 4€ glass of wine. It was very good, so smooth and not acidic like a lot of white wine I've had in the USA. The pasta dish unique to me and I enjoyed it. The pasta comprised large tubes of fresh pasta, cooked with a nice al dente texture. The cream sauce was just right, not too heavy nor oversauced. The use of leeks and pistachio was unique. As a sit down restaurant, it is more costly than a bristot or cafe but not too expensive and the ambiance, decor, food and service more than qualify the price. I found out after that you could go next door for their bistrot for similar menu at half the price. Good service, good food.

He's been in business for 44 years so obviously he knows but still charged us in USD which is kinda shady IMO. We decided to dine here due to all the reviews and photos posted. When we approached the restaurant, the owner immediately said "Ni Hao" which I thought was kinda racist. What if I wasn't Chinese? Mink felt offended but we committed to dining there so we did. He asked if we wanted to dine inside or outside. Since it was chilly for Mink, we opted to dine inside where it was 90% full due to a Chinese tour group. They all had the same dish so we figured preset menu for them. I wasn't sure what I was going to get but since they all ate the Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta, I decided to order that as it was one of the dishes I was considering. Mink ordered their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare. I'm not sure why but the owner exclusively took care of us. He also made it a point to bring a photo over of Jay Chow saying he's dined there 4-5 times in the last few years. Maybe that's why the Chinese tour group eats there? He was arrogant enough to brag about how much money he's made because of Jay Chow. There were lots of celebrities that dined there from what gathered looking at his wall of fame. I bet he didn't charge any of them in USD *smh* The Ossobuco con risotto alla Milanese in Crosta was really good and probably the best we had in Milan. They must be able to make this dish with their eyes closed at this point with the daily Chinese tour groups dining there. Their Spaghetti ai frutti di mare was decent but didn't have as much seafood in the dish as other restaurants and the flavor was about average. The bread and EVOO offered was legit though! I loved it and I normally hardly ever eat the complimentary bread. Food is good overall and customer service felt extra. If we didn't get charged USD, wasn't getting bragged to about how much money he made off Jay Chow and wasn't greeted with a "Ni Hao" then the place is 4 stars. Since all that did happened, 2.5 stars.

Reservations are highly recommended. It's within walking distance of the Duomo di Milano. Just as much as the Duomo is a must visit in Milan, so is this quaint restaurant. When you arrive, you will need to knock at the door. It's a tiny place with only seating for 20 in the entire place. Chef Maurizio sat at our table and shared pictures on his phone of all of the dishes. He made a few recommendations and they were much appreciated. The dishes are served family style - to be shared. Everything he served was amazing. I would not have changed a thing. The restaurant was founded by his father in 1952. And, he is carrying on an amazing tradition. His father would be proud.
