Pinch

The best of a night at several bars on the Navigli. Read my profile and my reviews, you'll find…read morethat I am a pretty experienced booze hound. Pinch is a total replica of American hipster craft cocktail bars, in Milan. The bartenders wear suspenders and do tricks with shakers. I'm waiting for an ironic mustache, preferably like the Moretti guy has. The drinks are exceptional. When I was there, they had one made of green tomatoes and mountain pine liqueur that was a taste party in my mouth. The aperitivo snacks are also really excellent, a small tray of various interesting crunchy things. No potato chips -- we're talking samosas in wonton wrappers with sweet chili sauce, Indian curry rice, a ham-arugula roll, and baba ghanoush. My second drink didn't quite match the first, but it was close. Also, the only bar in Milan that gave me *zero* grief about wanting a simple glass of tap water. In fact, they just give you one. Mega bonus points for that. I'm sick of paying for "aqua panna Toscana" that I neither need nor want. Been drinking Milan tap water in my hotel room for four days now. It's fine. Pour it on. Food offerings from the regular menu are a little hit or miss, but on the other hand, I had kind of stuffed myself with aperitivo. Had I been hungry, might've been a different story.

Another perfect cocktails bar in Navigli! And yet I thought this Milanese neighborhood was only…read morefilled with bars with bad & cheap drinks, loud music and greasy aperitivo food (well, there are plenty of bars like that but thankfully not all of them). Pinch is a new bar right in Ripa di Porta Ticinese, not in the pedestrian part of the Naviglio, which means they don't have outside seating - except for the tables at the windows. It has a retro vibe, as if you entered a 1920s bar, dim lights, soft 1920's music; elegant but not ostentatious atmosphere. The cocktails list has about 15 signature cocktails, all with an explanation of the alcoholic level (medium or high), taste (fresh, spicy, bitter, etc.) and of course the ingredients, classic cocktails with a twist, made extremely well, with good ingredients. They also have a food menu but I didn't check it out since we were there for the aperitivo - which then turned into after-dinner drinks. I had the "South of the Border" with tequila, chartreuse vert, lime juice, sugar syrup and fresh mint, it was fresh and delicious, then I had another one and another one... just to be sure they were made perfectly ;) For the aperitivo, our cocktails were 8 euro each and the waiter (who looked like Robert Pattinson) brough a small tray with some snacks: rice and salad in small glasses, chips, mini-sandwiches and a couple of vol-au-vents - not enough to fill our stomachs completely but also not the average greasy aperitivo food. Nice staff, a full bar with quality bottles and clean bathrooms complete the experience. Too bad it's far from my house, but worth the subway trip back!

To start, my friend and I tried the red mullet with chestnut creme and the spicy duck with pumpkin fritter. Both dishes were delicious but I especially liked the duck. The depth of flavor in both the tender meat and the fritters made for an auspicious start to the meal. We followed up by splitting the Spaghettoni "Benedetto Cavalieri". I can tell why it never leaves the menu. So simple, but perfectly executed. Finally, the pork belly. The star of this dish was the celeriac cream. So refreshing next to the heavy pork belly. The food was great but what really stood out was how nice everyone was! The service in the well-appointed dining room was top notch with wine advice and care to describe each ingredient, but the folks at Belè went even above this. In a careless error, I left my phone at the restaurant and it was too late to retrieve it before an early flight the next afternoon. The restaurant helped me get it shipped back and stayed in contact to make sure I received it. Go for the food, stay for the wonderful people, and check for your phone before you leave!

We wanted to take our guests to the Navigli district to show them the river, have a great meal and experience the nightlife after the sun went down. I emailed several restaurants along the Navigli a few days before to ask if they would be able to accommodate 28 people. For one reason or another, I couldn't get anyone to take us! But Mattia Bilotta at the Asso Di Fiori - Osteria dei Formaggi emailed me back right away and was happy to have us. He asked that we pick a few antipasti, a few primi Piatti, a few secondi piati and a few desserts so that they could be ready in advance. When we got off the subway, there was a lot of graffiti on the walls of the buildings and I was worried that I was in a bad part of town as we walked up to the restaurant. But once we reached the river from the subway, I felt better about it. And when I entered the restaurant to let them know that we were here, there was a huge stuffed cow in the middle of the dining room! I knew the kids would LOVE that, but I was not prepared for how much the adults would love it. Once we were seated, Mr. Bilotta brought out a small black board with the meals we agreed on in advance written on the menu. He also allowed us to order the specials of the day, which were written on a big black board on one wall of the restaurant. This meal was everyone's favorite of the trip, by far. Every dish that came out was more incredible than the last. Each person ordered what they wanted, but when the food came out, it was so delicious they were compelled to pass their dishes to people sitting around them saying, "you HAVE to try this!!" We sat and laughed and ate for hours. Some people even ordered more entrées after they were done because the food was so good! Visited June 2013

For a Friday night, it was not very crowded but would not have ever walked by this place had it not been planned. This place focuses on their risottos, so much so that at the end of your meal they give you a small booklet of their risotto recipes as a gift! Each risotto takes 25 minutes to make and requires you to order a minimum of two portions per risotto (bring a friend!). The appetizer was top notch - it was all vegetarian and had great flavors and textures. The star of the show however was the risotto. I could smell the red wine in the risotto (as well as see it), and it made the flavor of the dish so rich. The sausage was a great addition to the dish as well. Ended the night with some espresso; I'm not an expert on this but it tasted solid to me. Service was great as well; it was a very intimate experience since there were only three tables being served total while I was there, and they closed up the restaurant after I left. The amount of tables served definitely is not indicative of how good the food is! If you're looking for a wide selection of great risotto, this is a great place to go!

We went on what was clearly a packed night, and there should've been no way we would get a table. The staff however told us that if we were willing to wait outside for half an hour or so, they should be able to squeeze us in. The area is nice, so we took a short walk and came back, where we were promptly thanked for your waiting and given a table. The first thing the waiters will tell you is that if you would like to order risotto, there's uusally a 25 minute wait time, as they make it fresh to order. The second thing they'll tell you is that you should really try the risotto. So we did. We ordered the risotto Milanese with ossobucco, and the cassouella to nibble on while we waited for the risotto. Cassouella is a typical northern Italian cabbage stew that's usually eaten in wintertime. This one included sausage and veal as well, both of which were extremely tender. I'd tried this dish before, but something about the way this restaurant made it, made the flavors just blend so well together. The Risotto and Ossobucco were phenomenal. The risotto itself was just so much more flavorful than you'd expect a risotto to be, but combined with the juices from the Ossobucco it was on a completely different level. The Ossobucco itself was perfect. It wasn't too tender, and had just enough of a chew to it to counteract the soft texture of the risotto. To top everything off, the owner came by at the end of our meal, and handed us a small 5 page recipe pamphlet. He said that he gives them away in case anyone wants to try making his risotto at home. What a wonderful experience

You can choose either meat or seafood with the tasting menu and you get three courses plus dessert for just €28! The first course I chose was this hake dish marinated in vinegar with carrots and onions. It was ok not amazing... If you're squirmish and don't want to eat small fish with their head on this is not the dish for you lol. The next dish is a cuttlefish and artichoke risotto. This place is known for its risotto and boy it was amazing. Never knew risotto was suppose to be cooked where each grain has a bite and not mushy.the delicate flavour of the cuttlefish and artichoke worked so well and the dish was perfectly seasoned. The dish was creamy and I found myself scraping for the last pieces of risotto on the dish! I want more! Lol. The third dish I got was grilled octopus. The dish seemed like it straight up came from the sea with the long tentacle of the octopus. The octopus was tender and have the taste of the sea... Went really well with the sun dried tomatoes. I was amazed of the beautiful colour and the texture... So tender. If you like seafood this will quench your thirst for it. It also went well with the prosecco I ordered. If you're not into seafood, stir clear from this because it is straight up a seafood type of dish... and it'll taste like meat marinated in sea water. For dessert since it was my first night back in Italy I hard to give homage to the tiramisu. The tiramisu was light and fluffy... Not too sweet... Not too much coffee flavour, perfectly balanced. As much as I enjoyed it, being the fourth dish ... I was stuffed! It's a good reminder for me when I make tiramisu that it shouldn't be too sweet and delicate and flavoured lightly by coffee. The staff were really nice and attended me well, they are pretty on point and have a great system working. I'd recommend making reservations if you can cause this place get busy! Overall the experience was good and the wait was worth it for this restaurant. Good value for the money and gave me a good experience on how it is like eating like a local in Milan.

However, my husband said the pillowy focaccia was his favorite out of the selections in the basket. Let me tell you about the olives: they were the best green olives I have ever had, popping with garlic flavor, and their texture was perfect. They tasted home-made to me! We started the meal with a selection of cheeses which came with a pot of honey and a pot of a caramelized red onion-reduced in red wine and sweetened with a little sugar. The onion condiment was divine. It was best when topped on the truffle cheese. Main courses arrived later. My steak fillet was the softest beef I have ever eaten. In fact, it was truly the best steak I have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection! My husband ordered the sea bass and grilled veggies. We split the veggies. For dessert my husband selected a flan-like dessert that was smooth and silky while I chose a green apple sorbet that had a French Norman brandy (Calvados) on top. This was a sensational pop of flavors. Ending the meal with coffee, we promised ourselves to return on our next trip to Milano.
