Their polenta - a beloved wintertime recipe - takes hours of continuous stirring to cook it to the point where it's fragrant and unctuous to perfection, and despite normally being just a side to a main meat course, here the polenta shines when prepared with raw egg yolk and Raschera cheese fondue. A must-try: the restaurant's terrific pasta and borlotti bean soup. It was a trek and a half to get there with 2 buses and a brisk walk but totally worth it the minute you walk in and greeted by their sweet Italian charm. Reservation needed! The atmosphere is nice and romantic but not over the top so allows for a relaxing date and warm feeling. The food was not cheap but nothing in Milan really is! The portions were great and the size of the milanese is as big as it looks - filling to say the least! However the risotto alla milanese, a specialty I tried in a couple of restaurants, was the benchmark that never got beaten during our trip! We fought over the last few bites and I was tempted to order another one but the rest of the food was so great we kind of just wanted it all! Located in the Navigli neighborhood, we walked along the canals for about a hour in the freezing cold and worked up and appetite. We drank the house wine, shared an antipasto Misto (mixed appetizer plate of traditional Milanese items- fried bread, potato skins, pickled nerves... Totally strange item but worth a try, Salumi and cheese. The appetizer alone was a feast! For dinner, the Milanesa was a must! I ordered it extra thin with a side of mashed potatoes. Take note- the portions are enormous! I barely ate half. My man ordered the risotto Damm-atra. (Saffron risotto served with a sausage and bean stew) both dishes were awesome. Super rustic and totally traditional. The service as friendly, the atmosphere is humble and the food delicious. Like each bite was delicious and we literally fought over the last few cheeses left on the plate. My husband demolished his osso bucco and I adored the eggplant gnocchi. So so so tasty and I would absolutely get it again. Service was friendly and drinks were delicious; the desserts definitely did not pale in comparison either. I had the chocolate cake which was delectable. I would put this on your "must try, must eat at" list and definitely swing by if you are in Milan. Our dinner on a Friday night was a simply outstanding amount experience: ambiance, service, food, and wine. Testina's menu is concise: 3 to 4 selections for each course: appetiser, pastas, Secundo, and desserts. There is also a prix fixe menu using these same selections. The all Italian wine list is extensive with red and white wines from all regions. I guess there over 50 bottles from which to choose. There all also 75cl bottles of craft beer available. We went in May, 2016. Having already had a pre-dinner Happy Hour, we had pasta, dessert, and a delightful Italian Red. Overall, we had a fantastic meal: food, ambiance, and service.

Ended the night with some espresso; I'm not an expert on this but it tasted solid to me. Service was great as well; it was a very intimate experience since there were only three tables being served total while I was there, and they closed up the restaurant after I left. We had a long layover in Milan, and decided to check out what Milan was best known for: Risotto…read more This place was a few blocks from our hotel, so we decided to check it out. We went on what was clearly a packed night, and there should've been no way we would get a table. The staff however told us that if we were willing to wait outside for half an hour or so, they should be able to squeeze us in. The area is nice, so we took a short walk and came back, where we were promptly thanked for your waiting and given a table. The first thing the waiters will tell you is that if you would like to order risotto, there's uusally a 25 minute wait time, as they make it fresh to order. The second thing they'll tell you is that you should really try the risotto. So we did. We ordered the risotto Milanese with ossobucco, and the cassouella to nibble on while we waited for the risotto. Cassouella is a typical northern Italian cabbage stew that's usually eaten in wintertime. This one included sausage and veal as well, both of which were extremely tender. I'd tried this dish before, but something about the way this restaurant made it, made the flavors just blend so well together. The Risotto and Ossobucco were phenomenal. The risotto itself was just so much more flavorful than you'd expect a risotto to be, but combined with the juices from the Ossobucco it was on a completely different level. The Ossobucco itself was perfect. It wasn't too tender, and had just enough of a chew to it to counteract the soft texture of the risotto. To top everything off, the owner came by at the end of our meal, and handed us a small 5 page recipe pamphlet. He said that he gives them away in case anyone wants to try making his risotto at home. What a wonderful experience
