Pasta Fagiole

What a great place apparently a neighborhood gem since 1949. Awesome service and great food. I got the soup and salad Pasta fagiole which I've never had served with a bowl of pasta garbanzo beans and onions. It has a bowl of delicious red sauce to mix in to your own liking. Taking a pizza to go because I'm to full to eat it now.

Pepperoni & Mushroom - fantastic !!!

Another Luigi's dinner experience that was pure perfection! We got the salads n cheese ! Large Pepp Sausage Mild Pepper pie. The crust was perfect and crispy like not found very often. The key here is their sauce which is so unique and special. The oven is an antique and has a huge role in their one of a king pizza flavor !

This is an Akron staple and always goes a nostalgia, blast from the past vibe. The staff are hospitable and run the place like a family, and the food is the greatest price you'll ever find for lunch specials that come with a big portion of food! I'm not entirely crazy about their pizza and salad (which are their most famous items) as both come with too much cheese for my taste. However, it's a great lunch option nonetheless and you won't be disappointed with the amount of food for your buck! FYI - their chicken noodle soup is AMAZING. The broth is so comforting, real fattiness from the chicken, lots of meal pieces/noodles bursting with flavor.

Hadn't been downtown to Luigi's for a while but stopped on a Sunday evening and was surprised at how busy they were!!! We were seated right away, our waitress was flying around the entire time providing great service and our small combo pasta dishes were delicious and the perfect size after starting with the cheesed house salad with their signature salad dressing! Same old great place we remembered!!!

# 10. Tomato, Cheese, Mushrooms and Sausage with the addition of onions

Food was amazing. It was the equivalence of transporting back in time to what it must have been like to the mindset behind the melody of "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" Walk in and wait for acknowledgment to be ushered to a cozy booth beneath the ambience of a hiccup of nostalgia. Brick ledges, open ceiling concept, painted walls, hand painted decorations. The mood of nostalgia is met with coming to in the land from the past with meeting of today's nonchalance towards service, gratitude, and ultimately respect. Food made precisely and perfectly and could not have been made better. The service thoughtful and pleasant and right on point. Where the past meets the present is often where the future is defined and if a restaurant only needed to provide great food and great service then the store would end with high praise and a anticipation of future reunion. However when the past trumps the present then the future seem oblivious and well short of promise. That is where I lay in torment for leaving a 3. The issues. An unclear policy of not accepting debit or credit cards. Ok there is an ATM at the back. Oh ok. Go visit the back and in a narrow space between the kitchen and the dishwashing room you approach a terminal not like any ATM I have ever seen. You enter your card and in first try there's a 10 disbursement and a 2.00 fee. Did I do this right I ask. The gentleman behind me seemed unsure and had been several times. This place seems to always have these issues/ He tries and has the same problem. Then we ask for help Management comes in the form of a relief pitcher in pigtails destined to throw strikes . How can I help. The first pitch. She explains that it just goes through the 10 dollars the first time and then after paying the 20% fee you would need to slide the card again. Strike 1 The second pitch ....... We say so we need to pay 2 service fees. Then this young lady who is the manager says this almost never happens. Strike 2........ So if this never happens how come you just explained the first time that this is what we do when normally when it happens. This pitcher has her pitches in perfect cadence, her scripts memorized, her ability to sidestep responsibility hall of fame worthy. She said we don't own the machine it is not our fault and there is nothing I can do. Strike 3...... Well you don't need to be rude to us and defensive. We are now paying for 4 dollars in fees when there is no clear policy mentioned at any time before you are seated and place your order. I know it's 4 dollars but in 1949 4 dollars meant a lot and quite frankly in today's economy it still does. Ejection Management said not my issue figure it out yourself and walked away: So caught up in between a landslide of expectations excellent follow through on the key components of being in a restaurant that has operated since 1949 at some point you got a question why when a concert just let out a block away you can get seated immediately on a Friday night. Society has changed quite a bit since 1949 and most businesses have actually found that it just makes more sense to raise your prices by 2 to 3% because Cash is not king anymore unless you live and world where Cash is King. Everything about the restaurant was amazing except for the part that mattered the most. Being able to leave with the expectation that I would ever return.

Luigi's is opened until midnight. Nine of us walked in at 11 p.m. after the Nickleback concert. Not being busy, and having been here many many times, we quickly ordered three pizzas and one of the best meatballs. Food came, and it was delicious. Cash only establishment. Good prices.

Well, my last review was written over 14 years ago, so I guess Luigi's deserves an update. It's a classic. At 9:30 PM on a Saturday night there was no wait. I really would not recommend getting anything other than the pizza. The sausage was not very good; a little too spicy and the texture was very weird. The "cheese salad" was just as good as ever. Service is very friendly and efficient. Cash only, so hit up the ATM before you go. I still love the ambiance. It may be a little dated, but it's classic Akron. My parents used to go on dates here and I don't think the interior has changed too much since then.

Ask the Community - Luigi's Restaurant

Do they have handicap parking?

Yes. Lots of parking, and very busy.

Do they have outdoor dining?

It's indoor dining.

When does the kitchen shut on a Friday night?

2 AM on Friday and Saturday 12 AM Sunday to Thursday ENJOY!!!

Does anyone know if they offer a catering menu?

There is no catering on their website. You could call them and ask. Remember that Luigis is a cash-only establishment.

It's been years since I've been here... do they still only accept cash/local check, or have they finally come around to credit card?

It's still the same. There is an ATM that gives you a ticket they get cash from. Not sure if that's new to you or not

Do they offer gluten-free options?

No. It's an old school pizza joint, they don't cater to that kind of stuff. Nothing on the menu is specifically labeled "gluten free". I'm sure you could avoid it by ordering the meatballs or a salad.

We had 3 four top tables pushed together for our group. We dine out every Good Friday and the acoustics in this restaurant were great. We could hear conversation from one end of the table to the other. Several people had the Fish Fry special of fish and chips - some liked it, some didn't care as much for it. I didn't try it personally, but the plate had three decent size pieces of fish with a side of fries and coleslaw. Nice offering for Good Friday meal. Two of us had Chicken piccata and really appreciated that we could substitute out the side of pasta! One of us ordered a side of grilled veggies (highly recommend) and the other steamed broccoli. Highly recommend the grilled veggies! Good combination of different vegetables. The broccoli was good, but would have ordered without butter. There was a pool of butter they were swimming in. The piccata was good - 3 decent sized pieces of chicken breast. Note if you are not a red pepper fan, order the sauce without. I forgot to ask, but they were easy to pick out. The calamari was a good portion for an appetizer. We hoped they had cocktail sauce for it, but they only had marinara. The mesclun salad was very good and really good size for a half portion. We did not order dessert, but the cakes when you first walk in are quite impressive and imagine are delicious!

I got the Panzanella with chicken and it was divine. Very filling. The bottle prices were excellent. My husband loved his dish, which was the risotto special... I believe it had seafood in it. I loved seeing a traditional carbonara on the menu as well... Often, a restaurant will just make this with a cream sauce and call it "carbonara", which is so wrong that it makes my Italian ancestors turn over in their graves. Though I did not get the carbonara this time, I will certainly try it next time. We also saw waiters preparing the table side, Cacio E Pepe, which looked really fun, but ultimately, I felt it was priced more for the experience than the actual food so I did not get that. We had reservations at 8:15 but arrived at 7:45 (planning on waiting at the bar for our friends to arrive ) and they were able to seat us right away. We also got a welcome bubbly drink upon arrival which was such an unexpected, fun, and friendly touch! The servers are very professional, but down to earth. I would absolutely love to come back and try the chef's table.

It's kinda dark in the dining areas and looks to be around 1989 decor. It's clean. They have daily specials. My partner got the baked rigatoni and it comes with a salad. She enjoyed it. Portion size is kinda small in my opinion. It's a $15 cost and it's a little baking dish. I got the meatball sub with homemade chips. It's was good as well. Chips were hot and came with ranch to dip. Super good. Everything is Ala carte. So my sub was 1 price and to add chips was $2 and cheese to the sub was $1. To add cheese to the salad was $1. So you have to watch the nickel and dimes. The server was nice. I asked a few questions and wanted a recommendation and she gave them to me. At first I thought she was kinda grumpy because I asked the about the quality of steak in the steak sandwich. I didn't want to order it and fight with chewing the steak. So I asked. I think I offended her. But she was fine after a bit. Overall it's not bad. It's a solid Italian American cuisine experience. Prices are in the middle not outrageous but food quantity could be better on the pasta. My sub came with lots of chips and it was a good size. So that's good. We would go back. Again it's just average. But if you are close you want Italian it's fine. Next time I'll get the pizza.
