What a great place apparently a neighborhood gem since 1949. Awesome service and great food. I got the soup and salad Pasta fagiole which I've never had served with a bowl of pasta garbanzo beans and onions. It has a bowl of delicious red sauce to mix in to your own liking. Taking a pizza to go because I'm to full to eat it now.

Another Luigi's dinner experience that was pure perfection! We got the salads n cheese ! Large Pepp Sausage Mild Pepper pie. The crust was perfect and crispy like not found very often. The key here is their sauce which is so unique and special. The oven is an antique and has a huge role in their one of a king pizza flavor !

This is an Akron staple and always goes a nostalgia, blast from the past vibe. The staff are hospitable and run the place like a family, and the food is the greatest price you'll ever find for lunch specials that come with a big portion of food! I'm not entirely crazy about their pizza and salad (which are their most famous items) as both come with too much cheese for my taste. However, it's a great lunch option nonetheless and you won't be disappointed with the amount of food for your buck! FYI - their chicken noodle soup is AMAZING. The broth is so comforting, real fattiness from the chicken, lots of meal pieces/noodles bursting with flavor.

Food was amazing. It was the equivalence of transporting back in time to what it must have been like to the mindset behind the melody of "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" Walk in and wait for acknowledgment to be ushered to a cozy booth beneath the ambience of a hiccup of nostalgia. Brick ledges, open ceiling concept, painted walls, hand painted decorations. The mood of nostalgia is met with coming to in the land from the past with meeting of today's nonchalance towards service, gratitude, and ultimately respect. Food made precisely and perfectly and could not have been made better. The service thoughtful and pleasant and right on point. Where the past meets the present is often where the future is defined and if a restaurant only needed to provide great food and great service then the store would end with high praise and a anticipation of future reunion. However when the past trumps the present then the future seem oblivious and well short of promise. That is where I lay in torment for leaving a 3. The issues. An unclear policy of not accepting debit or credit cards. Ok there is an ATM at the back. Oh ok. Go visit the back and in a narrow space between the kitchen and the dishwashing room you approach a terminal not like any ATM I have ever seen. You enter your card and in first try there's a 10 disbursement and a 2.00 fee. Did I do this right I ask. The gentleman behind me seemed unsure and had been several times. This place seems to always have these issues/ He tries and has the same problem. Then we ask for help Management comes in the form of a relief pitcher in pigtails destined to throw strikes . How can I help. The first pitch. She explains that it just goes through the 10 dollars the first time and then after paying the 20% fee you would need to slide the card again. Strike 1 The second pitch ....... We say so we need to pay 2 service fees. Then this young lady who is the manager says this almost never happens. Strike 2........ So if this never happens how come you just explained the first time that this is what we do when normally when it happens. This pitcher has her pitches in perfect cadence, her scripts memorized, her ability to sidestep responsibility hall of fame worthy. She said we don't own the machine it is not our fault and there is nothing I can do. Strike 3...... Well you don't need to be rude to us and defensive. We are now paying for 4 dollars in fees when there is no clear policy mentioned at any time before you are seated and place your order. I know it's 4 dollars but in 1949 4 dollars meant a lot and quite frankly in today's economy it still does. Ejection Management said not my issue figure it out yourself and walked away: So caught up in between a landslide of expectations excellent follow through on the key components of being in a restaurant that has operated since 1949 at some point you got a question why when a concert just let out a block away you can get seated immediately on a Friday night. Society has changed quite a bit since 1949 and most businesses have actually found that it just makes more sense to raise your prices by 2 to 3% because Cash is not king anymore unless you live and world where Cash is King. Everything about the restaurant was amazing except for the part that mattered the most. Being able to leave with the expectation that I would ever return.

Luigi's is opened until midnight. Nine of us walked in at 11 p.m. after the Nickleback concert. Not being busy, and having been here many many times, we quickly ordered three pizzas and one of the best meatballs. Food came, and it was delicious. Cash only establishment. Good prices.

Well, my last review was written over 14 years ago, so I guess Luigi's deserves an update. It's a classic. At 9:30 PM on a Saturday night there was no wait. I really would not recommend getting anything other than the pizza. The sausage was not very good; a little too spicy and the texture was very weird. The "cheese salad" was just as good as ever. Service is very friendly and efficient. Cash only, so hit up the ATM before you go. I still love the ambiance. It may be a little dated, but it's classic Akron. My parents used to go on dates here and I don't think the interior has changed too much since then.

We love the throwback ambiance of this place! My go-to is the salad with cheese and the baked lasagna. I really want to try their lunch because they have soup and I love soups!

Ask the Community - Luigi's Restaurant

    Do they have handicap parking?

Yes. Lots of parking, and very busy.

    Do they have outdoor dining?

    It's indoor dining.

When does the kitchen shut on a Friday night?

2 AM on Friday and Saturday 12 AM Sunday to Thursday ENJOY!!!

Does anyone know if they offer a catering menu?

There is no catering on their website. You could call them and ask. Remember that Luigis is a cash-only establishment.

It's been years since I've been here... do they still only accept cash/local check, or have they finally come around to credit card?

It's still the same. There is an ATM that gives you a ticket they get cash from. Not sure if that's new to you or not

    Do they offer gluten-free options?

No. It's an old school pizza joint, they don't cater to that kind of stuff. Nothing on the menu is specifically labeled "gluten free". I'm sure you could avoid it by ordering the meatballs or a salad.

No longer a dining room but with good reason. They're so busy they needed to expand the kitchen. They did make a bar area for you to sit at while you wait which is exactly what we did. Had a nice conversation with the owner while he made our pizzas and we waited for them to bake. Order 3 large specialty pizzas, 3 slices of the peanut butter pie and a special seasonal cinnamon roll to take home. I've got to admit I was a bit worried about how the quality would be effected after the 40 minute ride home but I'm happy to report everything still tasted delicious and if I'm being honest it probably saved me from burning the roof of my mouth. As you can see we dug right in before I even remembered to take a pic. Too good to wait. The peanut butter pie is out of this world. It's something you need to try. First time trying the Peppers and Cream Pizza. Loved it. Be prepared for heat when you hit the jalapenos. Still so good though. The MVP may be our favorite. It's simply a classic. The BBQ was good too. There hasn't been a pizza or menu item yet I wouldn't order again. Stop in and get you some!

There is a little dining area to eat. Which is fine. I did not want to drive all l that way and take it home cold. We got the Greek salad and the MVP added olives. The salad was good. No Greek dressing. Just Italian or ranch and we got Italian, it was ok. Pizza came out and we were super excited to try. The first bite was soft. Their dough is soft and fluffy which I kinda liked but this tasted like it needed to be cooked more in the middle to support the toppings and get some crunch on the dough. It wasn't bad the dough was just soft. Then I noticed the burnt ring around the crust edge. Like they tried to cook in the middle but the bottom started to burn so they had to take it out. More examination of the bottom we saw a distinct burn. Bummer. I really wanted to like this place a lot. Prices are a bit high because they make a lot a specialty pizza. If you order a 1 or 2 topping pizza it will be average. They don't skimp on the toppings which is nice. But I think they need to regulate that oven. The deck is hot but the rest of the pizza needs to cook too. As mentioned the dough is fluffy. Which was fine. Just need it not to be burnt and cook the top. Service was good. The girl and guy in the shop were super nice and helpful. No complaints they were trying hard to please. The pizza was just not up to the hype. Eating this for left over lunch tomorrow so we will see how it holds up.

This place is definitely a favorite of locals and has a lot to offer on the menu. They have different types of chicken mixes and pizzas. We decided to get the deep-dish deluxe pizza which seemed to have a fan favorite based on reviews. It was a bit pricy for the size of it and was definitely expecting a larger pizza but considering it is deep dish and had thicker dough it was decently filling. The chicken was also good, crispy and not dry. They also gave us a good amount of jojos. They were not super bready jojo's and I wish they were a bit crispier but they definitely gave us a generous amount. The place itself is tiny on the inside with no interior seating besides a few seats to sit while waiting to pick up orders. Overall, the food here is good and definitely has its place. You will find something you like but I do feel it is a bit pricy and could get a better value for chicken, jojos, and pizza at similar places.
