This is a review of two tastings of the American Pan Crust with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni and sausage. I first tried and fell in love with the American Pan Crust pizza when I tried a slice at Akron Pizza Fest. The second time I tried the American Pan Crust pizza was tonight when I ordered takeout and ate it at home. I kept the pizza warm in the oven. The slice at the pizza fest was much better probably because it was right out of the oven and I didn't have to take a 20 minute drive home and then place it in another oven to warm up. Both pizzas had the same characteristics that I'll describe shortly, but the pizza fest slice was much better. The sauce is very sweet and tangy. The cheese was stretchy/stringy, slightly sour, with a creamy, milky flavor. The crust was greasy on the bottom and edge. The inside was chewy and very fluffy. The takeout pizza was more chewy than fluffy. The pizza fest slice was much more airy and delicate than chewy. The bottom of the crust was delicate and slightly crunchy. The takeout pizza was less delicate, harder and crunchier. I ate slices from three places at pizza fest and hands down Upper Crust was better. Tonight's takeout pizza reminded me of my moment of bliss at Akron pizza fest but fell short. I'd still buy it though. read more

We follow them on our Buckeye State Foodies Instagram account and all their pictures would make our mouth water. Finally we decided to take the 1/2 drive and give them a try and wanted to also support local businesses during covid 19 pandemic. We pulled up and knew it was probably good because their were people coming in and out of the business picking up their food. Ok gays and gals, didn't expect much - coming from NY I like my pizza places to look like an old ass hole in the wall with a bunch of gorgeous Italian hunks In greasy tee's throwing their dough around. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. (About the food - there were no hot Italian boys - though there is a very cute tall, slender fellow with puppy dog eyes who is cute as a button and very friendly - lucky for you ladies - I get a straight vibe ) I have had their pizza, and their chicken. Both are fabulous. Highly recommend for takeout, just wish there was outdoor seating to enjoy your meal in the Square. Not going to ding them for that though. At this point, who even cares what the food tastes like if the customer service is terrible? Unfriendly. Unhelpful. Unaccommodating. Unintelligent. This could be the best pizza I've ever had in my life and I still will never order from them again. *edit* Removed a star because the pizza is terrible. Too much cheese. Too much dough that was not cooked. The pizza was topped unevenly, so two pieces had not toppings, which doesn't matter since everything comes off then you pick up a piece, which means they can cut a pizza either. I have ordered from the Akron location several times. The food is usually very good. I have not ordered in several months. I ordered a American Pan cheese pizza and a tossed salad. I placed the order at 4:20 for pick up at 5:05, after work. I received a message at 4:50 that my pizza was out of the oven already. When I arrived at the store at 5:05 my salad was stacked on top of the pizza on the heat shelf. Needless to say when I got home with the food it was less than desirable. The pizza was lukewarm at best. The salad dressing was warm. The lettuce was warm and limp. I hope that this was an isolated incident and not the new norm for this store. Very disappointed. Upper Crust does a phenomenal job on their social media with pictures of their chicken and pizza, and you can get excited (and hungry) just looking at them. I loved how thick and crunchy the crust was my only complaint was wayyyy too much pepperoni but that was easily fixed by just taking a few pieces off.
