She's obsessed with their hoodies and sweatpants and insisted we stop in while shopping downtown even though we have one in the burbs because this one is bigger and better. I'm not sure if it's better, but I will say the sales associate who helped us was so lovely. I'm annoyed i forgot to get her name to give her some Yelp love, but she helped us find a super puff jacket (the warmest coats!) and another super puff vest that wasn't in stock so had it shipped to our house. There was a small line for the fitting room, but seemed short after what we had just waited in at Brandy Melville across the street. And checkout was a breeze. I find their quality really great and their pricing fair (maybe pricey if you're buying it for a 13 year old). I have a feeling I may be stealing one of my daughter's super puff jackets (yes, she has a few!) this winter because they are perfect for our Chicago winters!

I know it's not a big deal, but it kind of ruined my experience. Came in on a Monday evening around 6:30, they're not many people in the store so I kind of enjoyed a little more as I am a more relaxed shopper and get more anxiety with a lot of people running around. I had to return a sweater and I went to browse a few items to use for the remaining balance of my gift card, a very nice woman help me pick out a few options that she thought we might look good with the clothes that I already had in my hand. She had also gotten me a fitting room, but I had to ask the other employees for help with the fitting as she was more on the floor sales -which is totally totally fine. Finally found a dress that I liked and checkout was fine but I live in Chicago, so I definitely should know that there is a bag tax. I just totally forgot and definitely wouldn't have taken the bag if they would have said something.

This Loft location is advertising a "Buy One Shirt, Get Two Free" sale. Naturally, you'd think that…read moremeans you buy one shirt and get two additional shirts free. Apparently not. When we got to the register, the associate rang everything up and explained that they take the most expensive shirt out of the promotion and only discount the other two items. So instead of getting two shirts free, you're still paying for multiple shirts. That's not "Buy One, Get Two Free." It's misleading advertising. My wife picked out the shirts she wanted, only to find out the promotion didn't work the way it was presented. We decided to leave without buying anything. If you're going to advertise a deal, be upfront about how it actually works.

I get that my age is not the target market for Uniqlo, but I also know that there are a few nuggets of gold throughout the store relative to casual leisure wear, and after a hunt, I found a few shelves and racks full of pants...and after a quick fitting room visit, I scooped up a few colors of each and made our way to the registers. The store is multi-story, as is most on Michigan Avenue. It is also insanely busy, but given the size and layout, it does not feel overwhelming. The store is laid out well, organized, well kept and clean. You constantly see staff members stocking, fixing, re-hanging, etc... In addition to the clothing, there is a custom embroidery section upstairs. We did not partake, but it was busy and I saw several cool pieces leave the area. Service was the only thing a bit off. The staff were quick, but not engaging or necessarily friendly. While there were lots of people on the floor, they never seemed to engage you unless explicitly requested. No big deal, but noticeable. Overall, I enjoy Uniqlo and this location is a good one!

Marine Layer's catalog intrigued me and I decided to stop in to their Bucktown location when I was doing some shopping in the area. I admire the casual yet polished aesthetic embodied by this brand. Oftentimes this is more difficult to pull off than one would think, either skewing more athletic (Lululemon or Athleta) or effortless but requiring a commitment to ironing (J. Crew). These brands have a place, but I feel Marine Layer hits that sweet spot and, most importantly, the fabrics are SOFT! Wandering around the store was a relaxing experience (this location offers women's, men's, and kids' clothing). I found myself eyeing several t-shirts and sweaters, finally winding up with a cropped black linen blend chore jacket that will be a great transitional piece going into autumn. The prices are a little more expensive for casual wear but the fact is that quality and the sustainable practices used by this clothing company cost more. I am finding myself gravitating toward more laid-back, yet put together styles these days and find this store fits the bill perfectly. Looking forward to working more of these items into my rotation of staple pieces.
