We were delighted to enjoy a late lunch at Lucky's in Malibu. It was our first visit, and after our experience, we're not at all surprised that it has such a loyal local following. The restaurant has a warm, inviting ambiance that's perfect for a relaxed meal. The service was outstanding from start to finish. Our server was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable, while the friendly manager stopped by to make us feel genuinely welcome. The food was excellent across the board. The Maine Lobster Roll Sandwich, served on a warm, buttered brioche bun, was generously filled with sweet lobster and accompanied by delicious, perfectly cooked fries that everyone at our table enjoyed. The Lucky Chili, with red onion, sour cream, and cheddar cheese paired with a warm cornbread muffin, was rich, hearty, and full of flavor. The Lucky's Salad was another standout, featuring Roquefort cheese, shrimp, bacon, green beans, avocado, romaine, tomatoes, and roasted peppers, all complemented by a flavorful dressing. One unexpected highlight was the bread basket. We were delighted to learn that Lucky's bakes most of its own bread in-house, and every variety we sampled was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. From the exceptional service and welcoming atmosphere to the outstanding food, Lucky's delivered a memorable dining experience. It's the perfect stop whether you're heading to Los Angeles or returning along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway. This restaurant is a weak and pale imitation of the original restaurant in Montecito. The sedate and club like atmosphere of the original Lucky's was abandoned in favour of an absurdly loud, annoying and garish venue. Lucky's Malibu announces its impending failures via a badly designed imitation of the facade of the original restaurant grafted onto the cut and paste flat wall architecture of the far side of the Cross Creek Mall. Upon entry, the main dining room / bar demonstrated the ambient noise level of a 1940s German steel mill during an Allied bombing raid. There is zero intimacy, warmth or charm offered. in case you didn't know, very loud dining rooms are almost always a design / business choice. They promote stress, encourage the heavy drinkers who relish these types of environments (a choice that is good for the bottom line but not diners), and create rapid table turnover. Not a great combination for an alleged "fine dining" establishment. intimate conversation disappears after about 45dB and at 70dB people start to experience physical reactions (including higher cortisol levels, muscular tension and vigilance) that make customers want to get up from their table rather than linger over dinner. The food was "OK". My wife ordered lamb chops and I had a bone in New York. The prices were quite high, but not astronomical, assuming the meat had been better prepared. It was "OK". The appetizers were a disaster. Grilled peach and prosciutto yielded peaches that were not grilled, low quality grainy ricotta and mediocre prosciutto. Bland and over priced. The iceberg wedge salad was large but was bland and ungenerous, with the allegedly associated salad dressing and other assorted salad ingredients. Service? Adequate. Polite, but rushed. Our server was hurried and conducted "big smile" performative check- ins that felt as if they had no discernible purpose other than to move us through courses and turn tables. I always assume that this style of service is not the server's fault, but a management choice. I am also willing to admit that the server was likely unable to conduct anything close to a genuine interest in our dinner experience because of the noise. Lucky's in Montecito attracts a very different crowd. More professional and reserved. The night we were at the Malibu location, it seemed to attract a lot of obnoxious, rude and badly dressed people who were advertising their real or fantasized connection to "the industry" by wearing t shirts, shorts, hoodies or otherwise dressing like slobs. My wife and I went to Lucky's in Malibu the other night and it was awesome. Having only been to the Montecito location, I was excited to see similar decor, same quality/consistency with food and drinks and the service was great (Olivia)! We started with an appetizer special, Grilled Peaches with Prosciutto and Ricotta, followed by a NY Strip for me and Sand Dabs for my wife. We had to wait quite a while before being seated, and after all that waiting, we were placed in a very awkward spot--almost like a side alley where servers were constantly passing by but not really able to stop at our table easily. Because of that, we often couldn't get proper attention (couldn't get water refill because nobody is coming) from our server, and it was hard to even make eye contact when we needed something. Even though our server was polite when present, the overall service felt lacking given the level of the restaurant. On top of that, the expectation for tipping felt a bit excessive, which left us with mixed feelings. That being said, the food was still very satisfying, and I can see why this place is popular. Ribeye 8.56/10- got it with peppercorn sauce, it was good but it wasn't amazing. The ribeye wasn't as tender as it normally is but it was buttery. I can't really describe it but something was just missing compared to other ribeyes I've had here before. The peppercorn sauce was tasty, but it didn't have that wow factor I was expecting. Crab Cocktail 7.25/10- I liked that they gave pretty big lumps of crab but they put so much lettuce in it which they didn't do before, so they've definitely made the portion smaller. I wish that the cocktail sauce was on the side instead of mixed in because I prefer to control how much I use. The crab itself was fresh but the presentation wasn't as good as usual. Calamari 10/10- this was absolutely perfect! The calamari was so tender and not chewy at all, which is exactly what you want. The breading was crispy and light, and the marinara sauce was delicious. This is consistently one of my favorite appetizers here and they nailed it again. Fries 7.86/10- these were good but honestly I feel like their other sides are better. They were crispy and seasoned well, but nothing special. If you're going to get a side here, I'd definitely recommend trying something else. Hash Brown Potatoes with Gruyere Cheese 9.26/10- these were incredible! The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, and the Gruyere cheese was melted perfectly throughout. Such a rich and delicious side that paired amazingly with everything else. French Onion Soup 9.85/10- this was so good! The broth was rich and flavorful with perfectly caramelized onions. The cheese on top was bubbly and golden, and the bread was perfectly toasted. This is comfort food at its finest. Mr Lucky Cocktail 10/10- made with Casamigos Blanco Tequila, a splash of St. Germain Liqueur, fresh squeezed lime juice, and a dash of sea salt, served up. This cocktail was absolutely incredible! The tequila was smooth, the St. Germain added perfect floral sweetness, and the lime and salt balanced everything beautifully. This is my go-to drink here for a reason. Espresso Martini 10/10- this was perfection! The coffee flavor was rich and bold, and it was perfectly balanced with the vodka. Not too sweet but had that perfect coffee kick. It was served at the perfect temperature and had great presentation. Chocolate Cake 9.66/10- this was so decadent and rich! The cake was moist and the chocolate flavor was intense in the best way. Apple Crumble 8.54/10- this was really good! The apples were tender and perfectly spiced, and the crumble topping was crispy and buttery. It was warm and comforting, though not quite as amazing as some of the other desserts. Cheesecake 8.82/10- this was delicious! The cheesecake was creamy and rich with that perfect tangy flavor. The crust was crispy and the texture was spot on. A classic dessert done really well. Overall this place continues to be one of my favorites, even though some dishes weren't quite up to their usual standards tonight. The cocktails and certain dishes like the calamari and hash browns were absolutely incredible as always! I do prefer the Montecito location though as I think the food is better and more consistent. As for the food, it was excellent, a true old-school steakhouse. My steak was perfectly cooked and I'll be thinking about that red wine shallot sauce for the rest of my life. Very disappointing experience. We waited over an hour for our food, and during that time three tables that were seated after us received their meals before we did. There was no explanation or effort to make things right. When my food finally arrived, I ordered the lobster roll, and the lettuce was old and wilted, making the meal even more disappointing. Between the excessive wait and the poor food quality, this was not the experience we expected. I hope the restaurant improves both its service and quality control. read more

I just happened to be in the area when I stumbled upon this restaurant. It was around 6pm on a Friday evening and this place was quite popular. I sat at the bar and Anthony took very good care of me. I had a drink and an appetizer, which was the fried calamari, which is a bit on the bready side, but still crispy and tasty. Anthony suggested the featured dessert which was a slice of cherry pie. We had dinner at Lucky's tonight. There were six of us and we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and great service. To start we had wine and cocktails, onion rings and the grilled artichoke with drawn butter. Both appetizers were devoured! We also loved the pretzel bread and had to have a second basket. We enjoyed the Onion Soup Gratinee which some of us found a little bit too sweet. Of course we had the Lucky's Salad with shrimp, avocado green beans, and bacon. I love this salad and so did everyone else. We also tried the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach and really liked it. It's definitely a hearty meal! One of us had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and it was very tasty. The special was braised short ribs that were melt -in- your- mouth tender. The burger did not disappoint either. As a local, especially after the Palisades fires, I want to be a supportive to our struggling businesses as possible. That's why writing a one-star review for local business is not something I take lightly. A friend and I got together for drinks and an early dinner at 3:00 p.m. We were bridging the lunch to dinner service, and had three or four different servers tending to us. That was fine they were on top of it until they weren't. We we're told numerous times we would get a dinner menu, which never came. What did come was what I assumed was the new shift manager, asking us to move to the bar to give up the table for someone to have dinner. We explained that we have been trying to order dinner, in addition to the drinks and small bite we had already ordered, and could we please see a dinner menu, but we were asked to then move to the bar. I'm sorry, if they were booked for reservations, somebody should have told us that when we asked for the dinner menus. When we explain to the manager that we were attempting to order dinner, we should have been accommodated. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, and there were several empty tables when we left. My food experiences have been hit and miss at Lucky's, I can think of far better places to grab a steak. Once insulted, you're not going to get this local business unless I I'm attending somebody else's event. Sorry lucky's, you should make your locals a priority, we are your lifeblood. read more

Celebrated a friend's birthday here and the service and ambiance were fantastic! We had a group of 9 and all the food came out together and on time! We ordered multiple different steaks at different temperatures and everything was cooked perfectly! The reason Lucky's doesn't get 5 stars and my only real complaint is that although the food was cooked perfectly, the steaks and side dishes were fairly bland. They definitely could've used more seasoning to bring out the flavors. Also, the steaks weren't served as warm as I would've liked. Bringing out 9 orders at the same time is challenging so I'm not totally upset about this as it's understandable. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but even the outdoor seating feels classy because it's inside a patio with white tablecloths and an ocean breeze.
