Saddle Peak Lodge is a place we've visited several times over the years, so we were really looking forward to our most recent dinner. Before going, I checked recent reviews and was surprised by how many 1-star ratings there were - which definitely gave me pause. Were we about to be disappointed too? Happily, no. We had an excellent experience. There were six of us, and we ordered a wide range of entrées: sea bass, salmon, chicken, rib eye, and lamb. Every single person rated their dish a solid 5 stars. My sea bass was outstanding - perfectly cooked with a lightly seasoned crunch. Honestly, one of the best sea bass dishes I've had. That said, not everything hit. I didn't love the Pink Lady salad. It was interesting, but the flavors didn't quite come together for me. I also found the hors d'oeuvres and small plates uninspiring. I usually struggle to narrow down appetizers, but here I struggled to find one I wanted - and even the shared salad fell flat. The rib eye deserves a special mention. One of our dining companions is a sous chef who regularly prepares rib eyes at his own restaurant, and he couldn't believe how good it was. His only complaint? Not enough mashed potatoes. Desserts were a hit across the board - the bread pudding is a must. Service was attentive and smooth, and surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't packed - even on a Saturday night. One thing to note: valet is your only parking option, and it's $20. Will we be back? Probably. When Saddle Peak gets it right, it really gets it right.

Been here few times before maybe 3 times awhile back pre covid will say food and experience were always delicious and great ambiance !! The reason for 2 stars below.. Yesterday we called to make reservation bc everytime we tried to on the website, it said browser unavailable so we just kept calling, it rang, and we heard automated recording say Tuesday to Sunday open 5-10pm. We hesitated as Google says 5-9pm, i was calling to ask if it was ok to come around 7-45 to 8 as we have done in past, one was Mother's Day was reservation for 3, one was a big birthday party reservation of 6 and one was a walk in for 2 people. All 3 times we came were great- food and presentation were awesome ! So we didn't think it would be a problem on a Thursday evening esp since both Google and the call recording said open. Well we got there at like 8:07pm to find the place empty and closed, we thought they closed at 9, granted we did come 10 min after 8 but we would of expected them open at-least, the whole place was closed and dark no sign of anyone in parking or the restaurant... that was unfortunate as we were so excited to go, we of course turned around and left but coming from 45 min away was a bummer. Maybe next time but wish the internet had updated hours bc I didn't see anything on their website.

We requested to sit outside and I am so happy that we did! It was such a wonderful experience and so beautiful! We got so excited with the menu so we had to try it all! I am so happy that we did everything was fantastic!! I personally wasn't a fan of the elk tartar because the wasabi was also mixed into the elk and I'm not a fan of wasabi, however my boyfriend loved it!! He said it was great the wasabi mixed with the elk was a great flavor. The quartet was such a hit between my boyfriend and I. For this evening it included bison shortrib, ostrich steak, elk filet, and quail! They were each paired with a side dish that matched it perfectly! Lovely evening thank you to everyone at Saddle Peak Lodge for such wonderful hospitality!!

Has it been remodeled or updated recently?

    No.

Is this a good place to enjoy happy hour on the patio with light bites? How are the cocktails? Dog friendly?

Are they even open? All of their voicemails are full for Reservations and the manager or receptionist. Can't make a reservation even though I tried for 15 minutes! Los Angeles is opening for indoor dining but I guess they're not even open

Hi sir we are open. Unfortunately we are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We are serving from Wednesday’s through Sunday’s and our host gets in at 2pm to answer the phone!

What's considered dressy attire at saddle peak lodge?

For guys anything from collared shirt and jeans to suit and tie is fine, I have worn both there and was not out of place during dinner

Persian food influences, with a fusion twist, there is a little of everything for everyone. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. I highly recommend the truffle wagyu burger, which was a standout; perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. We addes the duck confit fries to our order which made our meal even more decadent. The other top notch meal was the braised lamb which was the house special. Large portion and complex with delicious flavors. The fried chicken waffles are stacked tall and is a tower of crispiness. The kale and cesear salads have fresh ingredient and perfectly dressed. I also appreciated the attention to detail in accommodating dietary preferences, ensuring everyone in our group had an amazing experience. I can't wait to return and try more of their menu! Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a unique dining experience.

This was my third time here and I had the 'El Dorado' - Sea Bass, which was fantastic. I live about 30 minutes away (...depending on 101 traffic....) and the food is easily worth the trip. Cafecito offers a very original take on a Cuban-Chicago style restaurant with a dash of California style. My wife had the Milenasa pressed sandwich which was made to perfection. Be aware of the cooler with the assorted pieces of dessert... it gets me everytime... I tried the Tres Leches and ended up eating the whole thing.. During our visit, there was a customer that came in with a 'to-go' order that she had placed and wasn't happy with it. She stormed in and interrupted two guests that were in the middle of placing an order at the counter. The manager stayed professional and kindly asked her to lower her voice and that he would address her once the couple finished placing their order. Once the couple left, the angry customer (gen z/young adult) started berating him about the meal and lack of customer service. The manager stayed calm and collective offered her a full refund as well as a re-cooked meal that she ordered earlier. However, this wasn't enough for her, she wanted blood. The manager kept composure, realized he was in a lose-lose situation, and calmly told her she needed to leave, which she complied. The manager was being rage baited and he handled it like a pro! This is a small 'mom and pop' shop pushing to make it in the tough climate of Calabasas. They are unique and treasure quality. This place is a true gem and I look forward to their growing ambitions!

My sugar sugar came by my job and we decided to hang out locally until traffic died down. We actually were looking for another restaurant and realized it wasn't there. He recommended this spot in the same area. For some of y'all this may be a normal place to go but for me it was my first experience and I was excited! My hot date and I have a tradition of trying espresso martinis wherever we go. So of course we ordered those. He got the veggie burger and I got the chicken piccata - subbed the chicken for salmon. The waitress recommended to have it blackened. So glad I did!! The salmon was a great cut and seasoned and cooked to perfection! The noodles with the lemon and capers were amazing. It came with a side of arugula salad that was tasty, especially with the generous amount of shaved Parmesan on top! Sugar sugar's burger was good and his fries were yummy!! The condiments for the bread were ssoo good. The neapolitan omelet with the burrata?! That was and made up for the blandness of the other one. I do wish there was more of the toppings though. Because the burrata is a strong cheese, it needed more tomatoes and avocado. The matcha was not strong enough for me and it didn't feel like there was enough caffeine in it so I was disappointed. The juices were much better! I ordered for the Morning Do for myself and I could easily have more of it. I'm not a huge carrot in my drink fan so I cannot speak about the triangle. We were seated promptly and our drinks order was taken though I might suggest handing a drink menu out, I understand there is a coffee shop in the shared space (that gives off a wonderful freshly brewed coffee aroma) but our server just listed off a few drinks off the top of her head and that's what we chose from. We also ordered and were happy to receive our food promptly as we looked upon other tables receiving their food we definitely want to go back to try the plates we didn't order they looked amazing. I had a wonderfully seasoned avocado toast with an egg on top. Chilaquiles were also ordered at our table and if the salsa isn't spicy enough you can ask for their habanero sauce on the side. Even the dressing had to add salt just to eat it- I've never added salt to a salad before for reference lol to add to that it was $27 before tax and tip. For a terribly bland salad. Looked pretty tho! My fiancé and future mother in law had pancakes and crab cake Benedict. I tried the pancakes after my salad cuz I wanted something yummy to top off the bland meal - she warned me they weren't that great and kind of dry. Sadly, she wasn't wrong those were $20 or so... didn't have any fruit or anything to make it special. ihop may have been better.... The crab cake Benedict for $28 was "ok". The service we received was also excellent, thanks especially to our server, Blake, who really made the experience more enjoyable. Star of the Night: Without a doubt, the focaccia was the best I've ever had. Perfectly fluffy, flavorful, and truly next-level. The pizza butter was a nice touch, though not as memorable as the bread itself. Appetizers: * Caesar Salad: I wasn't a fan of the presentation with the large anchovies on top. I don't mind anchovies in the dressing, but having them laid out on the salad wasn't appetizing. * Tempura Mushrooms: Great flavor, but they were overly fried, making them a bit too hard and masking the mushroom itself. The sauce that came with them was delicious, but there wasn't enough of it to balance out the crispiness. * Grilled Shrimp: Unfortunately, this one missed the mark. The plating was very plain compared to the other dishes, and the flavors just didn't come through. It felt like the dish could use a serious upgrade. * Hamachi Crudo: This was a highlight! The passion fruit purée paired beautifully with the fish, though the extra oil on the plate caused separation and made it hard for the sauce to stick. A small tweak here would make it perfect. Entrees: This is where the meal lost momentum. After the apps, it took about 30-45 minutes for the mains to arrive, which felt unnecessarily long since the full order had been placed upfront. By the time they arrived, the dishes themselves didn't really deliver. * Scallop Curry: Decent flavor, but the scallops could have used a much better sear to really shine. Something about the plate felt a little off-balance. * Pappardelle with Short Rib Ragu: The pasta noodles were well-made, but the short rib lacked depth of flavor and tenderness. It seemed undercooked for what should have been a slow-braised, melt-in-your-mouth kind of meat. Overall, the dish was bland and uninspired. Drinks & Dessert: I skipped the cocktails because none really stood out, but the glass of wine I ordered was excellent. We also passed on dessert after waiting so long for the entrees. Final Thoughts: The restaurant has a lot of potential, the ambiance is beautiful, the focaccia is unforgettable, and the service (thanks to Blake) was wonderful. But the rest of the menu felt inconsistent, with several dishes needing more attention to detail in both flavor and presentation. I'm glad I finally tried it, but for me, the focaccia and service were the true highlights of the night.
