I've gone to Serra Retreat for my parish's young adult retreat for most years since 2016. Its location is tucked away in the Malibu mountain and it really is such a serene environment that helps you concentrate and meditate. The staff are incredibly kind (shout out to the kitchen staff with the excellent food combos!). My favorite parts are definitely the look-out point and all the random benches where I have been able to sit, breathe, and write. As far as the retreatant bedrooms --- I mean, sure, it's not like a 5 star hotel. But, it gives you the basics: a bed, bedding, towels, shared bathroom. Because of COVID, I had my own room and bathroom for the first time ever. Different, but comfortable. Lots of parking. And a little over a mile away from the beach. I've also done a quick run before my retreat schedule for a run to the beach and back up to the Serra Retreat Center. No matter what, Serra Retreat will always have a special place in my heart.

I took a small group for a meditation retreat. Staff were very kind and accommodating upon arrival. They can be, at times, slow replying to email but nothing that made me concerned about the status of the trip. The center itself is quite historic. One of the oldest areas being behind the Rindge Room. Kinda creepy but neat to see the original tiles and structure. Views are great everywhere. We also had lunch which was well prepared with a good selection and portion. There's a small gift shop with prayer cards, medallions, and books. I'll definitely be taking my group back there.

This is a spiritual retreat center run by a Catholic religious order. I have been there at leas once a year for the last three years. It has amazingly beautiful grounds and the staff is so friendly and caring. It is a great place to unwind and feel like you are being touched by a high power. But it is also great cause they have some of the upgrades I would need. They have wireless internet because although I was on vacation I can never be far from work. The food is amazingly good for a retreat center and although the rooms are a bit aged they aren't damaged or dirty (I am a bit of a clean freak). I continue to look forward to going there and hope to someday be able to participate in one of the retreats they put on. Also keep your eye out for the sweet dog that roams the grounds he belongs to one of the Friars who runs the place.

This place is in the Bu! I went for a family-personal retreatment that was life-changing. I believe the beautiful setting overlooking Malibu & the ocean really made a difference to my sense of awareness. The religious center is a great setting to recharge & focus on yourself! For deep times, deep duty calls...otherwise just get a room somewhere in Malibu.

My husband and I are thoroughly enjoying our time here in Malibu. From the impecable landscape to the gorgeous views, to the delicious meals, everything was truly more than I ever thought this place could be. The rooms are just that...rooms. Who really cares if they're almost like college dorm rooms! These rooms are just made for sleeping. The beauty and overall charm is found outside, not in the rooms. As far as the ambiance is concerned, it really isn't a place for babies or children because the entire facility is geared to treasure God's natural gifts in peace. There's a lot of places to sit and meditate. Plenty of locations to reflect and savor life's little joys. If life has been crazy and you're looking/seeking for life's pause button, then the Malibu Serra Retreat is worth the drive. Bring tennis shoes as there are plenty of well maintained nature trails. Oh and don't be alarmed when the bell is rung, it's just a friendly reminder of something fun about to happen. My husband and I look forward to coming here again!!!! Thank you Fr. Michael for your hospitality. Glad to be a part of the 70th Anniversary!!

This review is for the grounds ONLY. What an amazing view from the top of the Santa Monica Mountains. You can see for miles with a fantastic panorama of the ocean beaches. There are benches to sit and relax. Parking can be dicey.

Unfortunately, the customer service completely overshadowed what should have been a fun birthday celebration. I made a reservation for 8 people, which later increased to 10. When we arrived, the hostess was incredibly kind and seated us in the couch area, letting us know we had a 2-hour limit, which we were completely happy to respect. By the time everything settled, four people had canceled, so there were only six of us. The hostess and valet were wonderful, but unfortunately that was where the positive experience ended. About an hour into our reservation (with over an hour still remaining), a staff member approached us and accused us of lying about the size of our party because they needed the couch area for a larger group. If they had simply come over and politely asked if we'd be willing to move to one of the many open smaller tables, we would have gladly done so. We were there to celebrate, not make anyone's job harder. Instead, multiple staff members approached us within minutes of each other, each becoming more abrupt than the last. We had already told the first employee that we were wrapping things up, and literally just a few minutes later another employee came over with even more attitude insisting they needed the space. At that point, I simply said we'd leave. His response was, "Thank you," in a tone that made us feel completely unwelcome. To make matters worse, a wine flight was accidentally delivered to our table that none of us ordered. We politely let the staff know because we didn't want to be charged for something that wasn't ours, and instead of an apology or even checking what happened, we were met with skepticism, as though we were trying to get away with something. We never touched the flight--we simply wanted to make sure the mistake was corrected. What disappointed me most wasn't that they needed the table back. I completely understand restaurants and wineries have to accommodate guests and maximize seating. It was the way we were spoken to throughout the experience. Hospitality goes a long way, and a simple, respectful conversation would have changed everything. We weren't loud, disrespectful, or causing any issues. We still tipped our server because we believe in taking care of service staff, but the overall experience left us feeling uncomfortable and honestly put a damper on my birthday. The scenery is beautiful, and the location has so much potential. Unfortunately, the customer service made the experience feel anything but welcoming. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I hope this feedback encourages management to focus on how guests are treated. A little kindness and professionalism would have made all the difference. Sadly, I don't see myself returning. We did however leave and ended up going to paradise cove right on the beach and the staff was AMAZING so I'm glad it happened but I hope this never happens to someone else Also very over priced for basic items/food. The staff also just didn't seem like they knew what we were doing and we had to flag them down because service was so slow (mind you there was so many of them just kind of huddled not being attentive) and like they didn't even want to be there I'd like to add because I don't know how to reply to your comment as a manager We never ordered that extra flight and let them know immediately and also they never asked us to relocate as I stated we would've been happy to had them asked us nicely as stated above we enjoying our time until the staff spoke so rudely to us. Clearly this was not well documented because we only ordered 2 total flights and being spoken to like that is unacceptable. It's very disappointing to continue to be treated poorly there was multiple people there who can attest to what I'm saying. I guess you just ban people without getting all the facts and have never experienced this ever. I understand guests number changes AGAIN we would've been happy to move if asked nicely nobody offered or asked us to relocate . Also we forsure never ordered an extra flight so again another staff member lying when it's totally fine if it was mistakenly brought to our table. Best of wishes to your business. Sad sharing my experience got me banned it is what it is I just hope no one ever feels uncomfortable for a place with potential

It looked perfect due to its saltwater pool and gorgeous photos online. There were so many great reviews...what could go wrong? We booked the guest house as some of the other options that were less pricey did not have pool access according to one of the owners. So we paid the extra couple hundred for the pool. We arrive and all seemed as described in the guest house. Within the first hour my daughter was crawling anround and picked up a cigarette that was on the floor just under the couch. No big deal. We unpack and head to the pool... The pool was green, smelled, and was cloudy (nothing like the photos online). I message right away and get a text back indicating the levels were tested that day and were fine. Hmm. At this point I didn't know what we could do other than make the best of it. We decide to make some food as we were told the kitchenette included a convection oven. Nope nothing but a microwave. So we order take out instead $$. My son wanted to roast marshmallows bc I told him there was a fire pit outdoors. We head over and it's filled with leaves. This was also the case with the outdoor bbq. Not a big deal but we didn't spend the money to clean the amenities, and we were worried about the smoke if we left the leaves. On our last day my son opens a little decorative box in the living room to find a green rotten string cheese yikes! It is important to note the guest house has sliding glass doors at the entrance of the guest house. Directly in front is where guests of the main house will park. Our view was of 5 cars and there was a lot of activity so we had to keep curtains shut the entire time. FYI- There is no sink for washing dishes or baby bottles. We had to make do with the bathroom sink. Once returned I let them know how the stay was and I was told they found out the pool had been clogged and they were out of the country. They offered a discount next time which was appreciated but I honestly feel we should have been compensated. I sent a text and emailed my thoughts but am getting no response. They were quick to respond when it came to booking and taking my 500$ deposit. I'm so bummed about this experience because it is a beautiful place if it were maintained and if the pool were safe to put the kids in. Last photo is of us making the most of it on the rock :)
