I came here for a friend's wedding. The venue is such a beautiful place packed with functions needed for a wedding - there is an outdoor deck for the ceremony, a green area for socializing, and indoor spaces for dining. The staff is very friendly and helpful. On the downside, parking and food left more to be desired. Especially on parking - It looks like this venue shares a parking lot and valet services with the restaurant next door. While the 1909 staff is friendly and welcoming, the other valet for the next-door restaurant is rude and condescending. They each gave me conflicting instructions on where to park. I wish they figure out a better way to divide the parking spaces for better experience. read more

If I could give this place 100 stars, I would! We had the most incredible wedding at The 1909. Peyman, Cristina, and Mohammad took such amazing care of us throughout the entire year of planning. Even with a little drizzle, the day felt like a dream. We held our June wedding at The 1909 and could not be happier. Cristina was professional, kind, and responsive from start to finish, and the on-site catering from Chef Axel went above and beyond to deliver a delicious menu that impressed every guest. Two days before our wedding, a construction project from the city reduced parking, but the owner Amir personally called us, built a new fence around the site literally overnight, and even added a complimentary appetizer--our guests never noticed a thing. The venue, food, and service all exceeded expectations and let us relax and enjoy the day. Me and my wife had our wedding in November. Overall, our wedding at the 1909 was wonderful. The outdoor venue provided the rustic look and fall theme we were going for our wedding. The venue has an abundance of trees, foliage and a natural look (which saved us on our floral/decor budget since the outdoors look took care of most of our decorations). You will have the whole venue to yourselves and your guests so no need to worry about another wedding happening on the same day as yours. The Car photobooth the 1909 can provide was a hit with our guests, it just looks awesome. The 1909 has their own in-house catering. Food was delicious especially the steak with the chimichurri sauce. During planning, we were able to tour with Peyman. He walked us through the venue, answered all of our questions we had, and was able to work within our budget. For our other venue visits leading up to the 1909 we walked through with Christina, who helped with the logistics of the venue up until the day of our wedding. During planning, both responded to our inquiries within a reasonable amount of time (usually the same day a couple minutes or within the next day). One thing to note is that it can get cold during the winter, especially at night. They can provide outdoor heaters for the colder weather. We made sure to plan for the cold weather well ahead of time so this was not a big issue. read more

Cal. far & wide for the place that felt most like "them"... they wanted an abundance of trees & natural beauty that offered a very grounded and intimate sacred ceremony space, but also wanted the facilities that would accommodate the type of elegant dinner party and "club like" dance party experience they wanted to give their guests afterward. Peyman and Cristina were amazing to my husband and I! We needed to set up a whole wedding super quickly! We got engaged in August of this year, we got married in late September! Both communicated so swiftly and made the process so smooth for us. The amphitheater was so beautiful to have our ceremony! We had the dinner portion of our reception at the meadow and had our desserts and dance in the dancehall. It was such a beautiful day and I'm very grateful for all the help of the staff. We had 60 guests and it was perfect for the size of the dancehall. My husband and I are dancers so majority of our guests were also dancers and there was enough space for all of us (we even had tables in the dancehall for people to sit). Despite multiple attempts to reach out, I never received a response from anyone associated with the venue. As a wedding photographer speaking, the 1909 is one of my top venues to shoot at! It's a hidden gem in Topanga, close to LA but great if you're looking for a venue right outside the city, in nature. The property is very well-kept, both ceremony and dining area is STUNNING and they also offer a "hall" for dancing and a getting ready space. Although I personally haven't met the property owners, I have only heard great things and hope to cross paths with them soon. I've shot about 6 weddings here, with another 3 in the books! Day One of our company Summit was a big success at The 1909. All communication throughout the process was pleasant, helpful and professional, which made our jobs as the Summit planners much easier. The team at The 1909 accommodated several special requests and worked very diligently to make our experience seamless. The site, used frequently for weddings, worked very well our Company Summit. We started the day with coffee and pastries, then took a group/partner hike (beautiful trail across Highway 23), then returned for our various Summit activities utilizing both floors of the facility. We created a kind of bohemian vibe with pillows and rugs upstairs. We had a delicious lunch on site on the lower level, catered by Cafe on 23 and finished our day with a lovely dinner on site at Cafe 23. The 1909 and Cafe 23 are owned by the same entity. My husband and I had the wedding of our dreams at The 1909 two months ago and we could not have been happier :) Immediately, our interactions with Zenobia, who let us tour the venue as much as we wanted, were fantastic. She answered every question we had promptly while keeping a friendly demeanor. Amir also was so pleasant do deal with and we really enjoyed seeing him have so much fun with his staff during our wedding day (we laughed so hard when we saw him and a few of the staff take advantage of our photo booth during the reception, so great!). We also really appreciate him pulling out that great orange VW Bus for my husband and I to take some photos with. We also had my husband's 1967 VW Bug on the premises as our getaway car, so it was pretty cool to get photos with both classic vehicles! The venue itself is a dream and immaculately cared for. We really loved that we had the venue all to ourselves for 12 hours and that we could hold the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all on the same property, but in different areas to keep the scenery changing & interesting for guests. Having a gorgeous bridal suite on the premises was a nice added bonus and made getting ready for my big day easy! This was the perfect venue for our wedding. From the lush greenery and gorgeous grounds, to the friendly and caring staff that helped our day run smoothly, and of course the care and help from Zenobia and Amir during the planning process, we could not have imagined a better venue! I highly recommend this to engaged couples... I also recommend patrons of The Topanga Table to take a stroll around the venue to just enjoy the scenery (given there is not a wedding/event happening). I can absolutely say my husband and I would get married at The 1909 over and over again. Our wedding day was above and beyond our expectations. We were impressed with The 1909 from beginning to end. Special appreciation to Zenobia and Ilsie who helped the prep leading up to our day all the way through it and aided in it flowing so smooth. I had numerous questions along the way and they were very helpful with all my thoughts. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner once and he was fantastic. A week or 2 before the wedding I found out there was even more props offered than the plentiful amount presented to us in the info - so I would highly recommend asking specifics if there is something you are seeking out for your venue set up. The place looked and felt perfect. We also used them for the catering and the food was very good. Our guests really appreciated the tranquility of the location and we had so many guests praise the food. If you choose to use them for catering I would very much recommend it. The chef was flexible and let us play around with our evenings menu. It was great to have a personal touch on the food choices. The one thing I would say is be ready with your menu questions/ food specifics/expectations when you have your phone call with the chef close to your wedding date. I felt under prepared answering his questions and the brevity of the call left me slightly confused on what was agreed to and said. The 1909 was the first wedding venue we looked at and as soon as we walked in, we knew we had to get married here. We actually booked our wedding date that day! So I have to give a little shoutout to Yelp for helping us find it before I get into the details. Where do I even start describing this perfect outdoor wedding venue in the middle of Topanga Canyon, where my wife and I had our big day in November of 2016? The 1909 really is the perfect place for a wedding because it has spaces for everything: the amphitheater/deck for the ceremony, the field for dinner and toasts, and the house for dancing, dessert, and drinks after. Your guests will appreciate that everything is in one venue but that you can fully explore it and the natural beauty of the woods all around you makes every angle of it beautiful. I mean, just look at the photos! No matter where you are, you're surrounded by greenery and vibrant, colorful flowers! Amir and Zenobia were extremely accommodating and helpful every step of the way. In a time when planning can get so crazy and overwhelming, they were willing to work with us and be flexible with us in order to make our wedding day absolutely perfect. The packages that they offer include the venue fee, all the rentals (tables, chairs, silverware, glassware, etc.), and other non-essential but nice-to-have things like a bar for cocktail hour, market lights in the field, and a wooden altar to get married at. They even added a waterfall in the time between when we booked the venue and when we had our wedding! It's so nice to not have to worry about all those little details because they have it completely taken care of. One of the best things about getting married here is that you get the whole space to yourself: there's no double-booking multiple events in a day or anything so you really get to enjoy and use the full venue. There are plenty of nooks and crannies all around too which are perfect for photos or setting up a guest book, gift table, or photo booth. And even though it is mostly outdoors, there are bathrooms both by the field and in the inside space that are clean and well-maintained for guests to use (which I quickly found out is rare at venues like this). We also did Catering through Topanga Table and people are still telling us how good the food was at our wedding. From cheese plates at cocktail hour to the buffet at dinner and late night pizza, everything was tasty and crowd-pleasing. In addition to all that, The 1909 also provided our shuttles and bartenders and allowed us to bring in our own alcohol, which ended up being much more affordable. They really do it all here! For a perfect wedding day, there's no place better than The 1909 (though I may be biased). read more

Nature lovers rejoice! The 1909 is one of those unique spaces that makes you feel completely removed from the bustle of LA. I've been lucky enough to shoot a number of weddings there over the past three years. Nestled in canyon, the venue it perfectly layered to accommodate all kinds of ceremony traditions. I'm always amazed at how my couples can use the foundation of the woods and make each ceremony completely unique and totally their own. They are dog friendly, provide an on-site bridal suite, have well-placed facilities for guests and are flexible with how you want to utilize the space for your day. Amir and Zenobia are top notch and ever so devoted to making each event a success. I am always impressed when Amir is serving and plating food for guests and not just watching others work for him. We just got married at the venue Feb 18,2018 We were the first wedding to use the beautiful new lawn in the meadow. Everything about the place is beautiful. My favorites are the hanging lights and the water fountain , let's not forget the amazing view & set up for the ceremony ! We fell in love with it at first view & booked it the same day. I got quick response with emails . Amir the owner is great super nice man ! We booked Barbara as our wedding coordinator she works exclusively for the venue ! ( Couldn't have done it without her ) We are extremely satisfied & are in love with our photos. There is a bridal room with a shower & the top dance floor was used for the groom to get ready. Let's not forget about the food, Elena K the chef was able to make a Mexican style dish for our wedding & it was amazing she even added tortillas to our menu. Everyone loved the food. We had our wedding here and it is visually beautiful. The landscape is phenomenal and we will certainly remember it forever - for a couple of reasons. Despite the beautiful landscape (and I mean beautiful landscape) the management here brought frustrations. They were hands off during the wedding planning process. An example of this included the absence of staff at our rehearsal the day before our wedding which left many questions unanswered, ultimately causing more stress. I mean, I can understand that people are not always on time and we have to give grace for that, but giving instructions and limitations to how the wedding should go and then not showing up when you are already paying for a service is pretty poor. Through the 9 months we planned this, there were several adjustments that had to be made and when we did finally get a hold of the management it seemed as if they had little structure in place in regards to adjustments. It also seemed like every time we went to them with a question there was more money coming out of our pockets. I understand that weddings can be expensive and I appreciate that, however a general lack of communication doesn't help anything. On a more positive note, we did the catered they offered the food was delicious and on time. The serving fee you have to pay for was worth it and they kept their end of the deal on that one. The facility was clean and ready to host a wedding. The cake cutting was done well and we lost our vow book and they mailed it to us promptly. The long and the short of it was that they upset several family members due to their lack of professional etiquette including my new wife and that sucked. I do wish them all the best in future however I really hope they up their game. read more

My daughter was married here and she and the surroundings were beautiful! However, although the venue was nice the man who owns it was dishonest! I believe his name was Amir. My mother went to look at the venue with my daughter and her now husband as I live out of town. All three of them remember Amir telling them that he would include the wood tables at no extra cost. Yet, when my daughter contacted the venue Amir was nowhere to be found. I tried to contact Amir several times as did other family members and he NEVER returned anyone's call! Not only did Zenobia (the employee my daughter spoke with) not include the tables she said, "oh I'm sure that's not what he meant" (meaning Amir). Three people, my daughter, her husband, and my mother heard him say he would include the table and yet that didn't happen. She had to pay between $800 and $1000 to use the tables. After that Zenobia then charged them for other things that were to be included as well. They also charged my daughter and her husband $540 to cut the cake and provide tea and coffee and serve it to the guests. Not only was there no tea or coffee to be found anywhere but the wedding planner had to cut the cake with one of the servers help and then it was just left on the table! Had I been there I would have made sure everything was in writing! As it happens many times with dishonest people they did the old "bait and switch"! Once Amir got my daughter excited about the venue and the food and all of the so called "perks" he would include he left everything out of the contract! Unfortunately my daughter is too trusting. I would never recommend this place due to the dishonesty of the owner, Amir and the other people running it. read more

We were happily married on November 5th at The 1909 in Topanga Canyon. The choice for this to be the place that will forever be held in our mind's eye was the most perfect decision we could have made ! In late September, after yet another news report of terrible natural disasters and the continuing state of discourse in our country, we made the decision to make a commitment to each other to share our life journey together forever in marriage. The word we have most often used in describing the love we found in each other is Thankfulness so we knew we wanted a Thanksgiving themed celebration. The only problem was November was just 5 weeks away. We had a tremendous challenge because of our time constraint and finding the perfect location with availability to fulfill our vision. We researched everyone out there & mediocrity wasn't an option. Once we found The 1909 online & saw the photos, we just knew. Reading all the great reviews was affirmation that this was the place for us. Zenobia responded to our frantic first email and the heavens opened up when she said Sunday, November 5 was available ! We were so excited, and with no time to spare, we went the following day. Tucked into the canyon, you could easily drive past it without knowing it is there. But, when you open the gate, and walk down the wooden steps, you are transported to a fairytale. We were greeted by Amir, the kindest, most compassionate man who just happens to be the owner, but he makes you feel like a friend that he's sharing his beautiful property with. He led us on a tour that gave us the vision of what our wedding day would look like with the ceremony in the amphitheater area under the arbor, cocktail hour by the rustic bar, dinner on long tables in the meadow with twinkly lights above, and dancing indoors on the second floor with plenty of room for the celebration to continue. We were pinching ourselves we were so elated. He answered our many questions before we had a chance to answer them and we booked that very day because he was open and understanding as we worked through our wing and a prayer budget, finding lots of options available. We knew that although we had an overwhelming amount of work to do in just a few weeks, we were confident that our Thankfulness Wedding Celebration was going to be a reality. Over the next several days, Zenobia continued to respond to our many questions about details and she then recommended we speak to their wedding coordinator. That's when the real magic happened ! The second best decision we made after finding the perfect location was choosing Barbara Knox as our Wedding Day Coordinator. We met with Barbara several times which was invaluable as she guided us by asking the right questions to determine what we wanted while offering invaluable suggestions we'd never thought of. We were in touch back & forth numerous times over the next few weeks and she was always available to us. We knew we would be in good hands with her guidance but we couldn't have known then how much we and our guests would benefit from Guardian Angel Barbara's professionalism and expertise on our wedding day. She was instrumental in pulling everything together perfectly and we cannot imagine not having her with us. She is The 1909's best asset and her insight and attention to detail is incomparable. Do not hesitate in choosing her to be the one that guides you and leads all of your vendors in making your day perfect. If you're reading this review, you're probably looking for your perfect place. Loved the venue, it was beautiful and absolutely perfect for our wedding! Overall the wedding was perfect! The only thing I would caution people about is that there are a few kinks we had to work out due to restrictions set by the venue. For example, you have the venue privately starting at 11am, but there are sometimes other weddings who want to use the space to rehearse for their wedding the next day the morning of your wedding or there can sometimes be tours happening before 11am when the venue is officially yours. This was a little inconvenient because we couldn't get ready in private at the location and be ready in time for the wedding. Instead, we had to stay at a hotel and get ready there then drive to the venue. I also was told by some of my other vendors that the staff was a little difficult to work with, but my experiences with them were just fine! The last thing that was kind of tricky was that their outdoor sound system was very poor quality and they don't allow djs to use their own speakers (but could once inside). So outside, the dj was trying to engage with the crowd, but the speakers were too low and no one could hear him. This is due to the Topanga noise ordinance, so it's really out of their control, but they could use better quality speakers, they would cut in and out a lot, which really ruined the ambiance in my opinion. So this review is coming almost 3 years later, BUT not for lack of IMMENSE LOVE FOR THIS VENUE AND THE MEMORIES MADE HERE! We got married in July 2019, my husband Adam Bucci and I, right before the world shut down (hence the lag in posting this). It was truly one of the most magical days of our lives! And the venue was a HUGE PART OF THAT! We fell in love almost ten year ago and got engaged a few years later. It took us a few years to get to the altar, because we yearned to have a traditional wedding with all of our family surrounding us, but couldn't quite afford it. It wasn't about the extravagance but about the notion of making our day sacred, as sacred as the wedding days our brothers and sisters got to have, something no one could ever take away from us. And we wanted our large Italian east coast families around us. On top of that, we love Topanga. It has been my get away from the crazy bustle of the LA acting scene (we are both actors) since I moved here in 2000 from NY and I introduced Adam Bucci to it, on our first real date. It has so much significance to us and we envisioned our wedding amongst the beauty and epicness of it. I was doing a film with someone who told me about The 1909 and as soon as we saw pictures, we knew this was the place. Once we saw the venue itself, we were sold. We took my mom with us and she insisted on helping, and once she was in, both families were and helped us pay for whatever we couldn't. It was a DREAM COME TRUE! Zenobia and her staff helped us pull off every piece of what we envisioned. The chef made the most delicious food!! And they worked with us to get to a price point we could afford without taking away from any part of what we envisioned. Our families both came out from the east coast, and they still talk about the wedding to this day! We got married on the premises, surrounded by beautiful trees and sunlight, butterflies were literally flying around us-and we were surrounded by all the people we loved! Then we got to have dinner in the open field, at dusk, and we danced with our mommas, and heard loving speeches! Under the white lights. Then moved inside where we had our friends from Vaud and the Villains playing their 6 piece New Orleans jazz, setting the party and room ablaze. The rest of the night was spent in that room mainly, and we didn't want it to end. It went so fast it seemed, because we were literally in euphoria. It was worth every penny spent, I can not recommend this venue and experience enough! We recently ran into Amir at his restaurant on the same premises, and was so sweet and loving! That sums up this place! Again, this is a memory and milestone in our life, that keeps us believing in dreams and our union! Our families say the same! Our Dads who are old school and were skeptical about it, told us the beauty of the place and the moment helped them understand what our love meant. I mean - can't get any better than that! My friends brought own their own food (Tender Greens and Filipino take out, say what?), so it's nice to know you don't have to use their approved caterers. They also brought their own alcohol--as someone who's planning a wedding myself, I'll definitely keep this tip in mind to save a few bucks. We took an Uber since Topanga is fairly far from LA and we'd be imbibing, but a handful of friends drove and parked onsite without a problem. The town of Topanga is also darling and full of funky Airbnbs if you'd prefer to stay nearby and explore. I could not have asked for the perfect venue for our wedding. Not only is the place beautiful but you have to see it,since pictures can't do justice, The service was incredible. From the owner Mr. Amir to the Sales Manager Zenobia to the Event manager Ilsie and her team everyone was warm and friendly and everything was executed perfectly.. Their food is phenomenal,kudos to chef Bryan.You definitely pay for the service however it was all worth it,the staff team were very professional you won't see anyone holding their phone or in idle. They are very flexible and accomodating and if you are a nature lover this is definitely your place. I attended a wedding here. As a guest, this is a beautiful venue. There are lots of steps here so if you're inviting elderly guests, proceed with caution. I know a few of the older people that were near me were complaining of this. Parking can also be a problem - there's a small lot but most people end up parking in the street. The wedding started at 3:30 and it was quite warm with very little shade. Luckily, as things progressed, shade came out just in time for the start of dinner, otherwise we would've all been getting sunburned. The wedding started off in the amphitheater, then appetizers and dinner were in the outside patio, after that we moved to the dance hall. Everything is inclusive which makes it nice and it saves you the hassle from sitting in traffic to get to another location. The food here was amazing. I'm not sure if they booked with the 1909 or had it catered but everything was quite tasty. We started off with a few pasta dishes, then meat, salmon and potatoes and some veggies as well. My daughter and son-in-law just got married at The 1909 and there are simply not enough words to describe how amazing it was. From the first moment we booked the venue (after having been royally scammed by another) it was a fabulous experience. They were incredibly responsive and addressed every question we had. Mohammad and Cristina were two of our contacts there and put us in touch with anyone we needed to complete the planning process. The setting was magical and idyllic .. a fairytale wedding come to life. From the caterer, to the wedding coordinator they put us in touch with it was perfection .. along with our other vendors. Our guests raved about the menu selection. The team at the 1909 made our young Newlyweds feel secure and comfortable with their choice to have their wedding there and were extremely attentive to their needs. I had my wedding here and it was over the top! This Venue is magical , beautiful and a one stop shop. I planned my wedding in 6 months! The ceremony space was rustic and lovely. We just needed to add a few florals.The food is farm to table deliciousness! We served the chicken and steak with salad, veggies and pasta family style. We upgraded the dinner settings. The outside dining was romantic. No bugs!! The venue had a photo booth which we purchased. After dining we went upstairs for dancing and drinks! Can we say over the top ...we had pizza served to the guests as a snack! The ceremony started at 4:30pm and dancing concluded at 11:00 pm. I love this family owned oasis!! I can't even begin to express how amazing and blissful this place is. My husband and I found this venue in Feb 2015, and booked our wedding day for April 15, 2016... Throughout the process of planning, the 1909 and their staff were the most helpful. We worked with William, Amir, and Patrice and they made our wedding day perfect. Patrice ended up being our wedding coordinator and I think that was one of our smartest moves. She helped keep the flow of things and make sure everything was perfect for our special day. A few things I love about this venue is that it's surrounded by nature. We had our ceremony in the amphitheater, our reception in the meadow, and our party in the dance hall. Having these 3 locations all in one place really kept our guests on their toes and there was never a dull moment. Biggest PRO: We were able to hire outside vendors. A lot of venues we found do not allow that. You have to go with their vendors, but the 1909 is not like that. We just had our wedding here in March and it was such a gorgeous event. I want to thank the staff of The 1909 for all their help in planning and putting on such a great day for us and our family and friends. We booked our date about a year out, and I definitely saw this venue grow over that time. They built out more of the venue, they hired more staff, provided more amenities for their events. I think it keeps getting better as they become a more popular event venue. We ended up renting a tent for the meadow since there was rain in the forecast for our wedding. I'm not sure if this venue has ever had to deal with a tent in their meadow, but I was definitely skeptical about it. Part of the reason we booked the venue was because the idea of having dinner out there was pretty magical. Amir offered to pay a portion of the tent cancellation fee if we wanted to cancel it, as we really wanted us to enjoy the beauty of the meadow (which was so nice and amazing anyone would offer that). But I have to say, adding the tent ended up being gorgeous and intimate and I'm so glad we did it. I hope The 1909 can recommend tents to anyone who might have inclement weather, it was beautiful! read more
