AMAZING! Got to experience this wonderful place this weekend. Anne was a phenomenal host, who made sure we felt comfortable and well taken care of. Chef Tony prepares the most spectacular appetizers and meal I've had in a longggg time. Try the steak wrapped asparagus *chefs kiss*! Jonnie, our server, was very sweet and patient. During Covid, restaurants are a hit or miss. This was definitely a hit! The Romanesque Room is a gem that we found lurking in the shadows of its neighbor, the Castle Green. It is comprised of a charming banquet hall with beautiful columns and high arches, creating a domed ceiling, and it has its own bar, lounge area, and outside patio that's partitioned off. It comfortably hosted our party of almost 170 guests, without feeling cramped or looking too spacious. When my husband and I first saw the banquet hall 16 months before our wedding, we were ready to book for our reception. However, the real hidden gems of the Romanesque Room are its owners, Ron and Starla. They rent out this venue for events, as well as manage their catering company, Castle Catering. They make up a true mom-and-pop establishment, with no hidden strings or fees attached to their services. It was made crystal clear from our initial tour and meeting with Ron that he puts his clients above all else and isn't interested in making a profit off of unsuspecting couples simply wanting to celebrate their special day. Starla is the queen of communication, as she promptly returned all e-mails when Ron couldn't get to them, and they both were very thorough and comprehensive in their responses. My husband and I felt very well taken care of since the very beginning, and our correspondences with Ron and Starla kept us feeling informed, confident, and at ease. One thing to note is that they are old-fashioned and accept only personal checks--no credit cards, Square, Venmo, etc.--so be sure to have a little money saved up in the bank and come prepared with a checkbook for everything. Other things we love about the Romanesque Room are its diverse dining options, our ability to provide our own alcohol, and its exceptional service. We were having a multicultural wedding, and Ron was already aware of the Chinese ten-course, family-style banquet we had in mind. Castle Catering already partnered with our caterer, which made the planning process just that much more efficient. Other couples who plan a wedding know that a lot of the expenses that are attached to a budget or venue are the fees for having alcohol, and sometimes, one cannot even opt out from having a bar! For the Romanesque Room, all service and bartending fees were already included and made explicit from the beginning, and Ron even referred us to a supplier for our spirits. We ended up paying less than a third of what we were expected to pay per guest at other venues for a full open bar, with specialty cocktails per our request, for six hours. Finally, the staff at the Romanesque Room/Castle Catering are as friendly and as professional as they can get. I didn't meet them until our wedding day, but every interaction I had with them was pleasant, and they were very forgiving when I didn't know their names (sorry!) They worked seamlessly with the additional staff our caterer provided to plate and serve ethnic cuisine. In addition to all these things, Ron goes above and beyond to make sure that no detail is overlooked. Since we were planning our Pasadena reception from the San Francisco Bay Area, we had a bit of a handicap with coordinating with our vendors. Ron graciously met with another potential caterer, who wanted to discuss their options for setting up a pop-up kitchen, and also with our DJ/MC, who was in charge of our decor and needed to scope out dimensions and potential for lighting. All of this was done on Ron's own time, and he always reported back on the meeting and any decisions made, again setting the standard for service and communication. Being the hosts, we had the option of validating our guests' parking with our rental security deposit, although it's important to note that validation can only occur for the Schoolhouse Parking Facility (the parking garage directly across the street). We opted out of this, but we appreciated being told we had this available. Lastly, I will mention that Ron and Starla have a whole storehouse of decor at your fingertips. If you forget the box with your table numbers and stands at home or need a little something-something to fill an empty space last minute, don't fret; Ron will have it for you to borrow. Our day-of coordinator jazzed up many of our common tables with theme-appropriate knick knacks, and our wedding looked better than we could ever imagine. Venue Search #3 Came here after my meeting with another venue next door! So the ambiance is very Old Town/Downtown Pasadena. I came here early to have a look around the room. I found out it was also a residence for some disability/vet/older adults. I walked into their area and it was nice and then I saw where the Romanesque room is. It is a quaint banquet room that could fit about 250 people (I have 200). It's a good size. It has a historic look to it with their arches and pillars. They have the dance floor and the colors are dark green. The bar is big - always a good thing - and is at the end of the banquet room so it'd be good because it doesn't interrupt the wedding. Both Ceremony and Reception Rental: $2500 (includes utensils, utilities, etc) CEREMONY AREA: Indoors They would put the tables in lined and have it indoors where the reception is as well. Then they would change it into the banquet/reception area afterward. Ceremony of the unity candle is allowed No confetti or rice or anything thrown COCKTAIL AREA: They would cover the reception area and they have a little section with cocktail tables near the bar and has a outdoor area as well. He said he would add couches as well outside. RECEPTION: They provide all the settings - tables, linens, utensils, china, etc. They also have a dance floor. He also offered a projector and would help with any design IF they have the props. He said he had lights and if I needed anything, he'd rent it (but I'd pay) but if he had it already - included. The place looked really antique. It had the arches and yes the pillars could be in the way of the dance floor activities. PARKING: He would offer validated parking (but you pay $6 per car) - across the street at the parking lot. It's a pretty good offer versus I wasn't offered that from other venues. He also gave me the option of valet. He said the groom and I could park in the back parking lot that he has reserved for vendors. Really nice. COORDINATOR: I really got along with the coordinator. Ron was really pleasant and I really felt like I was talking to a friend's dad. He broke down all the rules with me and everything I wanted to know. He seemed really well to work with. He owns the Castle Catering company which is part of the Romanesque Room, so I'm going to put more information on the catering meeting with him. OVERALL: This is a contender. Venue Search #4 Romanesque room is located on Green Street right across from the Fair Oaks parking structure. I've driven by it sooo many times in the past 10 years but never knew this place existed! It shares the same building with several shops and they also have apartments upstairs for seniors. The venue area itself is quite nice. There's a large bar, green carpet, nice columns in the room, a cocktail area, and also an outside patio area. The capacity is about 250. I talked to Ron and Duane during my tour of the venue and they were both extremely nice and helpful. They even gave me suggestions and ideas to think about for my wedding. PROS: + close by! (and in a familiar area) + only one event at a time + BYOB! + extensive options for catering + chiavari chairs are standard + you can borrow their props (mirrored rounds, cake stand, etc) for no extra charge! CONS: -paid self-parking or valet -indoor ceremony only Overall, pretty good place! Not that many venues will let you BYOB or borrow props for free. The Romanesque Room is a beautiful banquet hall in the Green Hotel in Pasadena. I've attended two weddings at this venue and they have just been absolutely beautiful. I love the classical arches in the dining area, and the way the cocktail area is built in a semi circle outside the main area for the reception. I've met the proprietor, and what a just nice friendly person he is. I'd have absolutely no issues with holding my own event here sometime in the future. I should also mention the catering and DJ were fantastic, and my understanding is that those services were suggested through the Romanesque Room. 5 Stars! read more

We attended a wedding here yesterday for our cousin. This is a very pretty venue for a wedding. The hall is old fashioned and made for really great photos. What I really cannot say enough about is the staff. Ron and Duane made the set up smooth and trouble free. They were so helpful, friendly and covered every detail we could come up with. At one point during the reception, the photographer ran out of flash batteries, and Ron went to GET the batteries a few doors away. Now that is amazing service. The wait staff and bartenders were friendly, helpful and eager to make sure everyone at the wedding was taken care of and having a good time. Our server was Luke and he went above and beyond to meet everyone's needs. The whole day/evening went off without a hitch, all thanks to Ron and Duane. My wife and I had spent a few months looking at possible venues for our wedding reception and they were all kind of ho-hum: standard square ballrooms with standard "art" on the walls, standard lights, even pretty standardized and unremarkable menus. Then the Romanesque Room popped up in our latest google search for reception venues, and we knew THIS was the place for us! The venue is beautiful, with these distinct columns and arches that give the room a unique and classy feel, with a separate cocktail and bar area perfect for socializing or a pre-dinner cocktail hour, and even an outdoor patio area for extra ambience! And the staff are phenomenal! Ann and her staff are just amazing--so professional, so helpful, so considerate! They worked with us to make sure every detail was perfect--tablecloths, table arrangements, we even had a big fake tree covered in a thousand origami cranes that they helped find the perfect spot to display! Plus, Ann and her staff worked throughout the night to make sure everything went smoothly; my wife and I actually got to enjoy our reception because Ann and her staff handled everything! AND, the parking structure across the street is super convenient for guests and vendors alike! The Romanesque Room - Such fun! - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Pasadena, California

I had my wedding here a few weeks ago, and I could not recommend The Romanesque Room with greater enthusiasm. The venue site itself, cost, location, and ease of doing business are the factors that I considered when giving The Romanesque Room a five star review. VENUE: We encountered the venue by accident and without an appointment, but the owner, Ron, graciously made time for us to tour the site. The site has four main areas - the entryway, the bar/cocktail area, the main event site, and an outdoor space. For our 130ish wedding guests, there was more than enough space to mingle and walk around in each of the four separate areas. We set up our guest book and table seating name cards on a table in the entryway, and then the guests walk into the bar/cocktail area. In addition to the bar itself, we had set up four bar tables (no seats), a photobooth and scrapbook station, and a boba station. Behind the green curtains, in the main area, we had our 14 guest tables, a head table, dj, buffet, and extended dance floor. Finally, the outside area consisted of a couch, chairs, and coffee table. The main area is quite striking with the arches, and many of our guests commented on how unique and beautiful our reception was. Our guests wandered throughout the main venue, bar/cocktail area, and outside area throughout the night, and I appreciated the openness of the place (vs. other venues where everything is located in just one room and can become quite stuffy). The bathrooms are located next to the entryway. COST: The proprietors, Ron and Starla, were very accommodating and willing to work within our budget. We ultimately decided to have a buffet dinner catered by Castle Catering, which is the catering company also owned by Ron, although they also offer catering by local restaurants. One of the biggest factors that ultimately led us to choose the venue was their BYO policy. We went with their recommended vendor, and it ended up costing us less than $7 per person for a full open bar for the night! They require that everything be done in cash/check (no credit cards). LOCATION: The venue is located in the heart of downtown Pasadena, which is a huge bonus. Many of our guests were flying in for the wedding from out of state, and we wanted to pick a venue that was in a safe and entertaining part of the LA-area. There are many hotels, restaurants, and stores within walking distance of The Romanesque Room, and I know that our guests enjoyed staying in Pasadena. EASE: I saved the best for last! I planned the wedding from across the country, and Ron and Starla truly coordinated every aspect of our reception. We discussed every detail of the reception, and they are very clear and good at explaining these details. For example, they provided an itemized budget and explained each line to me. They drew for me the physical layout of each table so I would know where each guest would actually be located during the reception (which was very helpful when we had to create the seating chart). I picked out the specific linens I wanted for the tables and napkins, as well as the dinnerware. They also generously let us borrow their cake stand and table numbers, free of charge. They extended our dance floor, also free of charge. We were able to drop things off (such as menus, guest book, etc.) a few days before the reception, and everything was set up according to our discussions. Ron even picked up all the goods for our boba station since they didn't deliver and set it up within the bar/cocktail area. They called our vendors prior to the event to confirm delivery times. These are only a few of the many examples of how dedicated Ron, Starla, and the rest of the The Romanesque Room team are. During the day of the reception, the entire staff was extremely professional and kind. One of the staffers, Esmeralda, served as our point person, and she really helped make sure that my husband and I were taken care of. I had ultimately - after many email conversations with Starla - decided against hiring a wedding coordinator, and because of the professionalism of the staff, I really didn't need to have one for the reception. I'd totally give 10 stars for this place!!! We discovered Romanesque after a disappointing visit with Castle Green right next door, so glad we found this hidden gem. We got married here on 10/20/2012 and being new to wedding planning, Wonderful coordinator and respondent, Starla and Ron helped made it easier for us. Unlike many other wedding venues, this place catered to your needs....without any hidden extra cost. Food is great, they also offer you options if you prefer to bring food in. Their contract liquor store will provide any liquor you request and buy back any leftover bottles from you at end of the event and credit you back. Everyone LOVED the bartender, Dwayn, he's such a sweetheart for remembering everyone's name. Another thing I really appreciated is he paid extra attention to me (bride), making sure I ate and hydrate before the ceremony. Note for future bride-to-be, it is very important because you do need the energy so you don't faint or become a bride-zilla on that day due to low blood sugar. All our guests had a blast!! It is a pleasure to work with them and we'll for sure be coming back here for ANY of our future party/banquet event. Frankly, in planning the wedding, I wanted nothing more than a simple streamlined affair with as little moving parts as possible and thats what you'll get with this place. You have the option of Castle Catering (also run by Ron) but you're under no obligation to use it. They're more than happy to offer you their "Restaurant Partnership" which gives you a variety of places. So many other places were overpriced or had so many hidden fees but not this place. Not only are they reasonable, but they will do whatever they can (within reason) to make sure your event is really beautiful. I held my 50th birthday party here. Starla and Ron Hobbs were truly wonderful from the start. When I walked in to see the venue the first time, I knew this was the place for my party. I envisioned my friends and family there, all dressed up and having a great time. My party was a formal, black & white themed party. The venue has that vintage old Pasadena feel and my guests looked so swanky in their tuxedos and fabulously dresses. The service? Impeccable. The staff coordinator (please forgive me if I get her name wrong, but I believe it was Esmerlda) was professional, warm and always seemed to be with me at the right time. The staff? So friendly and accommodating. Food? Ron sat with me and together we chose the right food for the evening. So much to choose from and hard to narrow down because you want everything, but in the end our selections were delicious. Lots of room for my DJ and his lighting and the dance floor was "plenty big" for everyone. The cocktail area which surrounds the bar is very cool, but the outside patio (which they furnished with art-deco black and white furniture) was ultra cool. It was hard to get some of the people to come back in to eat and dance. I have a special-needs daughter who can be a bit of a challenge times. The plan was only to have her stay until she got tired, which ended up being around dinner time. To my surprise, the staff had put together a piled high plate of food just for her, along with a take home basket of goodies just for me. My husband and I just got married a month ago! We had a church wedding and our reception at Castle Catering-The Romanesque Room. The goal for our wedding was: a beautiful atmosphere (great backdrop for our wonderful photographer), delicious food (we had mediterranean by Vic), great music, and an open bar. We wanted to have an intimate guest list (75) and go very simple on decorations and flowers so we can spend more money on those main things, and with such an gorgeous venue we were able to do that. Even though we had 75 guests, the venue was set up so well that it didn't feel too big for the amount of people that were there. The extra perk of this venue was the people we worked with to make our wedding day happen: Starla, Ron, Duane, and the rest of the amazing servers. We had a little less than 6 months to plan our wedding, but they made it so simple and easy. Communication was amazing, we were always able to coordinate our schedules to meet with Ron (especially since I was driving up from Orange County), and they helped us save money where we could (food, flowers, and having an open bar!). They know what they're doing and are very good at it! When we got to our reception, we waited in a room before we did our grand entrance and they set up tons of water and appetizers that all our guests were eating during cocktail hour and we had plates of food already served for us waiting at our table after the entrance and first dance, and we actually got to eat! My husband and I would look at each other throughout the evening and just glow from how beautiful and smoothly everything turned out. Definitely worth the money. We are so grateful!
