I hadn't been back since Covid. Life moves, the drive gets longer, and somehow years go by. Tonight I finally walked back in with my wife and it was like no time had passed at all. I'm an East Coast guy, so a place like this hits me a certain way. The history of it. The drive out to get here. The whole pageantry of the thing, the room, the ritual, the sense that dinner is an occasion and not just a transaction. You can't manufacture that. Priceless. Dave the host.. awesome & could not have been more gracious. He's the reason your whole night starts right. And Wendy....Wendy's been part of this place for as long as we've known her. She only picks up a shift here and there these days, and tonight she wasn't working at all. She was sitting at the table having dinner with my wife and me. That tells you what kind of place this is. You don't become part of a restaurant's family by accident. I had the ribeye. Perfect. We grabbed a bottle of chardonnay from next door, which is one of the great small pleasures in life. I'd been waiting to come here for SO long. It looked straight out of Deadwood. My bf and I happened to be in the area today so we decided to go. After looking at pictures of it over the years and the cool interior, I was pretty disappointed to find out we couldn't sit inside, which was pretty much the main draw of why I wanted to go. It was outdoor seating only. Not only was it only outdoor seating, but there was no table service, which made the extremely high prices feel a bit unjustified. The giant portions kind of made up for the prices. The Cesar salad and ribeye were good. But again, the fact that they were served in to-go containers and with no table service made the prices feel like a bit much. The outdoor ambience was pretty nice until- the wasps! There were SO MANY WASPS. We moved tables literally three times and could not get away from them so we eventually to pack up our food and leave. I know there's not much they can do about the wasps but they should at least let people eat inside if the problem is that bad. Overall kinda bummed. Been waiting to go for years and it's like they're doing what they can to charge the most for doing the bare minimum. Wish I could say I'll come back some time when their indoor seating is open, but I really don't think the food is worth the price. read more

My hubby and I had lunch here on Saturday after he randomly found this place on Yelp, and we're so glad he did! [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the moment we arrived, I absolutely fell in love with the ambiance. Went on Sunday with a group of 5 bikers to have a delicious meal. Got turned away when we parked (respectfully) and instantly had a guy running up to us while still on the bikes with a card scanner saying we needed to pay $10 per bike to park. We made reservations to dine inside and the food was great. Big portions so we all had leftovers to take home. However, we were surprised by the pricing for what is essentially a takeout operation: $28 for a steak sandwich, $24 for a chicken sandwich, $24 for a breakfast burrito, $17 for bread and butter, and $9 for a cookie--all with a required 18% gratuity. We hoped the quality of the food would justify the cost, but unfortunately, it did not. After waiting a long time for our order, we finally sat down to eat, only to be very disappointed. * The Fries: These were thick, over-seasoned, and over-fried potato wedges. * The Steak Sandwich: Consisting only of steak and onion, it was incredibly dry and unappealing. * The Burrito: Entirely bland and lacked flavor with eggs and over fried bacon bits and potatoes * The Coffee: Even the iced lattes at the coffee shack were bad - tasted very milky with very little espresso and warm. Our mocha latte was horrible as the chocolate powder was not mixed well, clumpy on the bottom of the cup The meal felt greasy and unhealthy, and despite being hungry, we couldn't even finish half of it. The food was absolutely disgusting. We threw everything in the trash bin. I wouldn't recommend this spot and certainly won't be returning. Absolutely delicious! So glad this place was right next door to the wine tasting place I went to. I ordered the serloin which came with a loaded potato and side salad. It was cooked to perfection. This is a MUST GO, if you're anywhere near here! We were in the area looking at colleges and I found Old Town on Yelp. We stopped in on a Thurs night, without a reservation, and they sat us at the bar. The ambiance is so fun, and it reminded me of a local steak restaurant in our small town. There were a group playing the guitar and hootin' and hollorin' so we asked the server how many were just locals hanging out and they told us about 1/2. It was such a fun vibe but that was just the icing on the cake. I had read Old Town was known for their "steaks and blackberry cobbler" and they did not disappoint! My husband and daughter both got steaks, which came with a side salad and a baked potato that was huge! I got the seared ahi special and it was amazing. I requested asparagus instead of rice and it was probably the best I've ever had in my life--smokey flavor and perfect texture. Of course we also ordered the blackberry cobbler and it was divine! We quickly devoured it as if we hadn't just eaten a bunch of steak and other things. We will definitely find a reason to come back here, the food, the service, everything was so great, and not at all what you'd expect of eating out while you're traveling. read more

Why you won't get the bus food here, this restaurant is definitely a place that should be on your bucket list!! The country vibes are so genuine and the ambience is fantastic! If you happen to be in the area or close by you must 100% check out this place. The staff are impeccable and kind. The atmosphere transforms you to another place. The detailing of this old post office is incredible!!! It's a small but fast paced, to die for food restaurant. We opted for the bar seating which is cosy but everyone around you is there to have a good time, great chats and amazing food. The steaks were all cooked to perfection. The portions are HUGE!!!!!! Be prepared to go home stuffed or to bring plenty of leftovers. We started with TWO sourdough breads because me wasn't enough. The cheesy noodles were different but great hearty appetizer. 100% get the cobbler. We shared it between 3 people but we were already on full but we still finished. I absolutely love everything about this place. We have started coming out this way from Rancho Palos Verdes regularly due to a an unfortunate family matter nearby. We visited the lovely Cornell Wine Company last week and The Old Place last night after a tearful afternoon. Needless to say, we needed a drink and some comfort food and William and the friendly crew at The Old Place were happy to oblige. We took a seat on the wooden bench at the bar (which William explained was an old, antique diving board from a nearby home, I believe) and ordered a beer ($10) and a glass of wine ($14). We looked over the menu and the wife chose the soup special (Leek with crispy onions and bacon bits) and I ordered the Sirloin Steak ($46 including a loaded baked potato and salad). Portions are large and hearty. The $20 soup was amazing, thick with lots of things going on. We had plenty to take home so the somewhat high pricepoint sat okay with me. And again, it was delicious. The oak fired sirloin had great flavor; I really enjoyed it. And that loaded baked potato must have had crack in it because both of us couldn't stop eating it. The salad was also a good, generous portion and the dressing was fantastic. We indulged in dessert and ordered the blackberry cobbler ($16) which also was a good size and delicious. The topping was my favorite part. The place itself is set in a sort of old, wonderfully rustic compound made up of The Old Place which also housed an old post office, The Cornell Wine Company and its lovely art garden and a couple antique rooms on wheels?? It's just a delightful setting, truly, and gives off really good vibes. Inside The Old Place, it's everything you would want in a restaurant within that setting: it's old, familiar and cozy. There was one item of decor that I thought was peculiar so I asked William what it was. The horsehoe nailed to a wood block is their GIFT CARD. There were several of those available as well as an actual hatchet ($900). William explained that other gift cards like cow skulls hadnt been redeemed in over 10 years! What an original idea; I love it! We head back up there this afternoon and very likely will make another stop in for a bite and a drink. When things return to normal for us in about a month and the weekly visits to Cornell stop, I know that I will truly miss The Old Place. read more

First of all the website is misleading. The very first picture you see is what appears to be an upscale restaurant with a bunch of wine bottles. When I got there that place was next-door. When getting inside there was nowhere to sit so we had to sit at the bar. It was extremely hot in there, I mean so hot the person that I was with had to step outside several times. Later, after receiving my food I had to as well I felt almost nauseous. Now comes the food. The ribeye I ordered to be medium well came out extremely pink in the middle. And I don't eat meat that's pink. I didn't want to complain in front of my date so I just tried to eat it but really couldn't. She said her state was extremely hard to cut. It was almost rubbery. Between the extremely hot room and horrible food I def won't return. I called the restaurant manager and told him for $220 I expected better. He said then they always under cook the meat. WTF!?!? Why would you do that???? And not tell me before ordering. He said the owner would call me which never happened. No I'm sorry how can we make this better, no refund, NOTHING! Keep your money and go somewhere else if you are looking for a nice upscale steakhouse! This is a glorified Applebees with kids running around, extremely hot insides, and horrible food. read more

Jason Momoa has motorcycles and rides his bike all around the world, and just so happen to mention this place.. I googled it. I found it and I've been hooked ever since.. it's tucked away muscles in the hills of Agua in California so if you're in the city and wanna maybe take a ride into the mountains or maybe just venture out, the old place is the place to go now. Make sure you check times because they're not open regular hours, [[HIGHLIGHT]]they have a cute little coffee truck and they have a rad restaurant, it's Western and they have a winery and the whole place is just a vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place is 50 out of 10 recommend. Came here for dinner after a day spent drinking wine at the adjacent carnell wines (also highly recommend) You need to come early at the weekends to grab a spot- limited seating inside and no reservations for smaller parties. For two people its open bara seating is first come first served. It's like stepping into a wooden cabin saloon- so cute and rustic with the wooden paneled interior, strong smoked smell from the meats they cook in the back kitchen. Dim lighting to create an intimate ambiance inside. We sat at the bar after about an hour's wait (we drank wine at Carnell while waiting so it didn't feel too long!) Ordered the clams and steak to share. Clams were great in a garlicky sauce with a side of fresh bread- tasted great. The steak was good (we asked for medium rare and it was pretty cooked when served) Chargilled on the outside, plenty of filling in the large baked potato to the side and salad. All tasty food, we really loved the clams and bread was our favorite. Didn't have room for any dessert which is a good sign! Good portion sizes for sharing. It's a busy place, but service was still quick and attentive. It's a perfect date night spot- they even had some live performers walking around the tables singing folk-y songs. Good vibes. read more

Went for a friend's birthday. Service was very nice. Loved the lady who took our order. I read reviews before and knew it would be outdoors so I was fine with that. I thought the place was so cute with the variety of seating. They were out of a few things but it was later in the day and it wasn't what I wanted anyway. I prefer Thursday nights or Friday and Sunday evenings when it's not too crowded for a more relaxed atmosphere. My favorite dish here is the grilled mushroom, and I've started exploring their fish dishes, which change every two weeks.
