Highly recommended! My 1 picture here sums it all up. The steak dinner was enough to share between 2 adults. Just fantastic of a meal. The vibe was fun and relaxed. The decor matched nicely with the restaurant and whole layout. Wine tasting next door and outdoor tables everywhere to enjoy. Rustic feel. Absolutely a fun time if you make your way to this restaurant. A+ thank you

Bad ass bacon!

This place has fantastic food! The breakfast burrito looked amazing! I had the side of bacon that was amazing. The staff was totally cool and the ambience was rocking! If you like exotic cars and motorcycles you will love chilling for breakfast at this place

Absolutely delicious! So glad this place was right next door to the wine tasting place I went to. I ordered the serloin which came with a loaded potato and side salad. It was cooked to perfection. I may be only had to wait 10 minutes. Staff was super friendly and was great to sit outside with my dog.

My first time here and what a great treat!! We had a reservation at 7pm and Morgan the owner had our table waiting. The wait staff are all amazing and and attentive!! We had Christina May and she was such a delight! This is a true gem in the LA area. Nice old school steakhouse with incredible steaks my Ribeye was cooked perfectly! And the dessert was blackberry cobbler that was to die for! I highly recommend this place!!

Old Town has such a cool, local vibe.

This is a MUST GO, if you're anywhere near here! We were in the area looking at colleges and I found Old Town on Yelp. We stopped in on a Thurs night, without a reservation, and they sat us at the bar. The ambiance is so fun, and it reminded me of a local steak restaurant in our small town. There were a group playing the guitar and hootin' and hollorin' so we asked the server how many were just locals hanging out and they told us about 1/2. It was such a fun vibe but that was just the icing on the cake. I had read Old Town was known for their "steaks and blackberry cobbler" and they did not disappoint! My husband and daughter both got steaks, which came with a side salad and a baked potato that was huge! I got the seared ahi special and it was amazing. I requested asparagus instead of rice and it was probably the best I've ever had in my life--smokey flavor and perfect texture. Of course we also ordered the blackberry cobbler and it was divine! We quickly devoured it as if we hadn't just eaten a bunch of steak and other things. We will definitely find a reason to come back here, the food, the service, everything was so great, and not at all what you'd expect of eating out while you're traveling.

Cozy, rustic spot with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a laid-back meal.

What a quaint and historic restaurant. We ordered from the take away window as the main restaurant was t open until later. The Portobello Mushroom Sandwich was melt in your mouth delish! Side of potato wedges and we were happy with our late lunch. If in the Cornell/Malibu area you won't be sorry you stopped by. Only open weekends.

Why you won't get the bus food here, this restaurant is definitely a place that should be on your bucket list!! The country vibes are so genuine and the ambience is fantastic! It's tucked away in the mountains, and the view is beautiful while enjoying your meal! The portions are small for the food but it's worth trying once! The staff are friendly and try to make the line go as fast as possible! I'd say 3.5 stars just for the food but that extra 0.5 is for the views and experience!

If you happen to be in the area or close by you must 100% check out this place. The staff are impeccable and kind. The atmosphere transforms you to another place. The detailing of this old post office is incredible!!! It's a small but fast paced, to die for food restaurant. We opted for the bar seating which is cosy but everyone around you is there to have a good time, great chats and amazing food. The steaks were all cooked to perfection. The portions are HUGE!!!!!! Be prepared to go home stuffed or to bring plenty of leftovers. We started with TWO sourdough breads because me wasn't enough. The cheesy noodles were different but great hearty appetizer. 100% get the cobbler. We shared it between 3 people but we were already on full but we still finished. Can't wait to come back and eat more amazing food !!

Biscuits and gravy. That's chili powder, not paprika.

An all-time favorite spot. Ridiculously massive portions of the heartiest food imaginable. And their breakfasts are just as good as their legendary dinners. You really can't go wrong here in terms of what to order. The service is super flexible - they worked some things around to seat us even without a reservation. As for the location itself, the western theming is impressive. And as a longtime Twin Peaks fan, dining in the original Bookhouse is such a cool experience. We always enjoy a meal at the Old Place!

"Gift Card"...lol

I absolutely love everything about this place. We have started coming out this way from Rancho Palos Verdes regularly due to a an unfortunate family matter nearby. We visited the lovely Cornell Wine Company last week and The Old Place last night after a tearful afternoon. Needless to say, we needed a drink and some comfort food and William and the friendly crew at The Old Place were happy to oblige. We took a seat on the wooden bench at the bar (which William explained was an old, antique diving board from a nearby home, I believe) and ordered a beer ($10) and a glass of wine ($14). We looked over the menu and the wife chose the soup special (Leek with crispy onions and bacon bits) and I ordered the Sirloin Steak ($46 including a loaded baked potato and salad). Portions are large and hearty. The $20 soup was amazing, thick with lots of things going on. We had plenty to take home so the somewhat high pricepoint sat okay with me. And again, it was delicious. The oak fired sirloin had great flavor; I really enjoyed it. And that loaded baked potato must have had crack in it because both of us couldn't stop eating it. The salad was also a good, generous portion and the dressing was fantastic. We indulged in dessert and ordered the blackberry cobbler ($16) which also was a good size and delicious. The topping was my favorite part. The place itself is set in a sort of old, wonderfully rustic compound made up of The Old Place which also housed an old post office, The Cornell Wine Company and its lovely art garden and a couple antique rooms on wheels?? It's just a delightful setting, truly, and gives off really good vibes. Inside The Old Place, it's everything you would want in a restaurant within that setting: it's old, familiar and cozy. There was one item of decor that I thought was peculiar so I asked William what it was. The horsehoe nailed to a wood block is their GIFT CARD. There were several of those available as well as an actual hatchet ($900). William explained that other gift cards like cow skulls hadnt been redeemed in over 10 years! What an original idea; I love it! We head back up there this afternoon and very likely will make another stop in for a bite and a drink. When things return to normal for us in about a month and the weekly visits to Cornell stop, I know that I will truly miss The Old Place.

What's the best time to arrive on a Saturday night for party of 2? Multiple reviews state it's can be a long wait.

Hey Ryan, Thanks for reaching out. We are open 4-9. Any time that works best for you. The wait is unpredictable. The property is amazing so your wait will be less painful. =)

Why is the inside dining still closed & will it ever reopen?

Feb 24, 2023 I just called the restaurant and they ARE NOT closing permanently and the indoor part IS reopened.

Is there indoor dining again? That was a major draw to going there. Food is great but the ambiance of indoors is key.

No the indoor dining room was still closed when I went this past Saturday (10/15). The front patio is cute and great for people watching.

Is it halal?

Probably not. Still a nice weekend drive though

Is there wifi so I can work from home and eat delicious food on your lovely patio?

You can't work from home if you're on their patio.

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor seating areas?

Yes

Is there a clean restroom inside? I just saw two portable potty? And how is parking?

Yes

Do they serve prime rib?

It's not on their menu. Ribeye and NY strip steak

The website says that Old Place doesn't take reservations, so it's not possible to make a reservation at all?

Our website is correct. At this time we have a takeout window with about 45 tables outside. (= your free to come anytime we are open. It’s beautiful outside.… Read more

Can we dine inside again like pre-covid days?

Nope. And the owner says it most likely will never re-open for inside dining.

Is there out door dining with social distancing?

Yes

Assuming the menu is more limited now during covid, what's on the menu?

It is much more limited. No skillet dishes, no pancakes. The potato wedges are dreadful

Do they have any Gluten Free options On their Lunch menu? It looks like they are all sandwiches?

They serve breakfast until 2 p.m. I am not celiac but have a gluten intolerance and ordered the steak and eggs breakfast and just gave my sourdough toast to my BF. Not sure how the potato wedges are prepared but they didn't appear to be dredged in… Read more

May I ask where the beef is sourced from? Or the vendor?

No.

Is this place wheelchair accessible?

Not that I can recall, but I've not been for a couple years. They may have made some accommodations. If you call them, leave a message, I'd expect them to call you back.

It says there's no takeout but can you take leftovers home?

Bring your own reusable containers such as tupperware to stow away your left overs. Less takeout plastic containers used, less pollution and waste to our environment.

Are they open today?

Temporarily closed since March 2020. There is no drive-through. The location on Sepulveda is open.

A wine menu?

Yes! Lol. It is connected to a winery!

The dining room is the usual Mastro's - dark (a little too dark I would suggest) and classy. One thing I don't love... they do really jam you in there on the banquette booth things... you will have neighbors and they will be very close. I could do without this. The bread service is definitely pushed. They ask you if you want to order it as soon as you're seated. We sucumbed, but for two people, it's too much bread. Be better than we were and pass on this. The drinks are lovely - they even have a good mocktail list if you must. Service is extremely polished, natch. I had the crabcakes with a side of lobster mashed potatoes. Delicious and entirely too much food. My friend had the French onion soup (she loved it) and the scallops. Beautiful and also delicious. The interior of this restaurant has always been well lighted but not too bright and classic with warm woods. Our server greeted us promptly and took our cocktail order. She was polite, enthusiastic and charming all in one. Drinks came out promptly and correctly made. Tito martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. Olives were hand stuffed not out of a jar and a bottle of Caymus conundrum and a Coors light draft. Now to the food. We started with the crispy calamari and rustic cheddar biscuits. The calamari were indeed crispy and well-seasoned with salt and pepper and served with a good cocktail sauce and a spicy aioli. The cheddar biscuits were elevated with a great honey thyme butter. The entrees came out in about 15 minutes and all 6 of us raved about the taste and quality of them. 3 of us had the Halibut with creamy mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Bonnie had a filet with the Oscar topping and roasted cauliflower, perfectly cooked medium rare. One of us had the prime rib French dip and she loved it, without the horseradish sauce. One friend needed to stary lite and had the Caesar salad with shaved parmesan, which he said was perfect and not overdressed. Our final taste of the night was an order of the Warm Butter cake with extra ice cream for dessert. Topped with fresh berries it was the perfect last bite. We will be back and it won't take 3 years this time.

For nearly $100 per person, rib steak that was sous vide to medium, then served nearly well done and completely undersalted is unacceptable for a restaurant asking for this much coin. One of our dishes was completely forgotten, and had to be followed up on. Surrounding tables had similar issues. Eggs benedict with smoked salmon was a hit The starter salads / french onion soup and desserts were tasty, with the banana / blueberry bread pudding and tres leches cake being the stars. Shoot, should of just gone to Lure for the 10,000th time, at least it would of offered the same boring consistency. Super disappointed in Saddle Peak Lodge, as my family and I come here 1-2 times a year for dinner.
