Lame donut shop..it could be because we went a little late (10pm) but if you're going to be open all day- you've gotta have fresh donuts!....right? I mean..they were O-K at best. I used to be a huge fan of Dough Boy's just around the corner. However, after the recent disappointment (which I yelped about), I had to find a new donut spot. So close to midnight the other night, my roommate and I started having donut cravings and decided to walk somewhere. I made the call that we'd walk the few extra yards to Lucky Donuts and try it out. It's been over a decade since I've eaten at this place, and from what I remembered from my days in grade school, I was never impressed. When we got in there were tons of choices, and I appreciate that. I can't stand a donut place whose trays are empty, and you only have 6-10 options. I ordered a maple long john and a chocolate fritter. My roommate got an apple fritter, chocolate cake, and blueberry cake. I thought the maple was good/decent. No complaints. The fritter was somewhat stale. My roommate loved everything except the apple fritter. He said they burned the bottom. All in all, a decent spot. I guess I'd go back. The walk and smoke to this place is cathartic. Still, at some point I would like an amazing donut at midnight. I'm not sure if that place over on Main St. near EL Segundo Blvd. is 24 hours, and I really don't want to jump on the freeway to go to Randy's. read more

My boyfriend works near El Segundo and one day he brought home an unexpected treat. He brought home a blueberry and a cinnamon crusted donut. He kept telling me how good they were. I was a bit hesitant because my affinity for sweets has lessened over the years. I took a bite of the blueberry and was hooked! It was a like a blueberry muffin but with the texture of a donut. I'm giving Lucky's donuts 5 stars because of convenience and service. Lucky's is my doughnut of choice most of the time, and that is simply because most of the time "The Donut" is closed. If you're looking for the best quality Doughnuts in town, you've gotta get to The Donut - the only problem is that the Donut is only open from 3AM-12PM or so. Most of that time I'm asleep or at work, and for those missing hours, I've gotta say that it's Lucky's all the way. Don't waste your time with Dough Boy's. If there's one thing I absolutely LOVE about Lucky's, it's the guy that works there. I've been to Lucky's potentially hundreds of times, and I swear that guy never leaves that Donut shop. I've seen him there every time without fail. Also, out of those hundreds of times, I don't think I've ever heard him say a single intelligible English word. I threw away two sugar raised because the oil the place use must either be old or the people here don't taste what they make. Winchell's is better than this place and I hate Winchell's. Went here to pick up a Ham and cheese croissant and it was huge! wooo hoo I think I take this sucker to work, all excited to eat it. After looking at it im thinking this is just way to big for one person so I decide to cut it in half to share with one of my co workers. Once it was cute and I could see the smallest little roll of ham wedged into a tiny pocket of the croissant. Almost none existent. I'm a fan of this place, been there a few times already. Their Ham and Cheese croissant is pretty amazing - it is ham and white cheese (not sure exactly what kind of cheese) baked inside a nice big croissant. Definitely big enough for lunch for most people. Get that with maybe 1 donut or a few holes on the side. Their filled donuts are lacking in filling though... there isn't enough filling so for the most part they are like eating unfilled donuts. My favorite is the bavarian creme followed by the "eclair" (choc covered filled). The filled bavarian creme holes are PERFECT. Just the right ratio of cream to dough. 6 holes is also about the same price as 1 donut, so, if you really like filled donuts I would go for the holes instead. This is probably my #1 recommendation for this shop. The parking lot for this shopping center gets really busy during peak hours so you may need to street park occasionally. Generally not too bad though. I've also been to Dough Boy (just one block, walking distance away). In comparison, their filled donuts had more filling (good) but I also found the dough to be a little more greasy (good or bad depending on your preference). Dough Boy also had almost no stock the time I went (very bad), when Lucky Donuts usually has stock of everything. Prices are all "normal" for a donut shop. They do charge 50 cents for using your credit card though, but I think only if you charge less than $10. read more
