Wife and I were looking for a place to eat and saw that this local eatery had some good reviews for their Taiwanese cuisine. It is located in a strip mall with an abundance of convenient parking. Inside, they had nice tables and bench seating and also had a couple of nice sized round tables with lazy Susans for larger families. We arrived around 7:30-ish and it was quiet with one or two other parties dining. Their take-out business appeared to be robust, which was a good sign that they must be doing something right with their offerings. Menu is pretty standard fair. Noodles in broth with beef shank, various dumplings, rice plates and dry noodle dishes. We started with the deep fried spring rolls which were tasty. The wrapping was very thin and delicate and had a nice crunch for each bite. There are six in an order, which is a great value. Wife ordered the Lucky Beef Noodle which has a mildly spicy broth. She asked for half the normal amount of noodles, as she feels that the noodles end up soaking up a lot of broth. I ordered the Beef Soup with Dumplings, which is basically what my wife ordered without the noodles. I wanted noodles added, so they were gracious and added the noodles my wife did not want to my order. The broth was flavorful and mild, not much of a kick. But the pork and cabbage dumplings included in my order were out of this world delicious and paired perfectly with the beef and its broth. I highly recommend this specific dish! Got a pedicure next door and stopped by here for lunch. All the items we got were solid. Spicy wontons had a great sauce. Their house chili oil is very flavorful and fragrant as well - not just oily. A friend of mine took me here.. while I am still convinced that Shang's artisan has better beef noodle because the beef noodle here didn't have a great flavor and their noodle was not chewy. The texture of the noodles were spot on, and the broth was perfectly light yet flavorful. Kung Pao Chicken was disappointing for me as it was Cantonese style with lots of vegetables, but is a good option if you like that style. My favorites were their Taiwanese Fried Chicken and Pork & Cabbage Dumplings. Their Fried Chicken was perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside; it could have used a bit more spicy seasoning but that's a personal preference. Lucky Noodle became the go-to spot for beef noodle lovers such as myself. So why the 3-star review? Simple: the quality has dropped over the years. Lucky Noodle used to craft their broth with real, rich ingredients. But during my last two visits, it's clear they're cutting corners. The broth now tastes salty, and I suspect a heavier use of MSG. I took the staff suggestion not to take the last chrysanthemum tea that had been sitting out for a long time, but I would've at least expected the staff to be able to make what they have in the menu from scratch. I guess maybe not staffed for drinks on a weekday. As for noodles, I chose the clear broth soup but my issue with it was there was still quite a bit of peppery taste to this for a "clear broth." The soup base tastes like it's been cooking for hours without heavy amount of soy sauce flavor and star anise flavor. The home made noodles are thick, curly and chewy which pairs perfectly with the soup base. The popcorn chicken is a must get here.
