Lucky Corner initially feels like every other take out spot serving Americanized Chinese food BUT it's actually Taiwanese-owned, and they offer authentic Taiwanese comfort foods like lu rou fan (braised minced pork over rice) and popcorn chicken. The lu rou fan was especially good. Each component was delicious: from the pork, to the marinated egg, to the pickled veggies. And it wasn't overly greasy like some places make it. The food here is not bad, it's decent in terms in chinese/Taiwanese food in the area. I really liked their orange chicken, tried their minced pork before too. Prices wise, it's overpriced. You can get better food elsewhere for cheaper, or better quality food for the same price I tried their bubble tea because people kept saying it's the best. Tbh it's just decent, I wouldn't go back for it. The owner stared at us when I ordered stuffs to go but my friends didn't.. we didn't know we had to pay for tips, thought it was just like McD not an actual restaurant. We did pay tips afterwards. The bubble tea is good. I especially enjoy the taro flavor. It does run sweet and has a lot of ice, however, so be aware of that. I really enjoy their chicken cutlet over rice. It comes with some veggies and a tea egg, which adds some nice variety of flavor. The chicken cutlet is always very satisfying too, with a nice crunch. I'm also a fan of their salt & pepper popcorn chicken. The taste and texture are great. Overall, prices are good, and the taste is yummy and authentic. Ok, so I've been sitting on this review for the longest time, partly because of procrastination and partly because I kind of wanted to keep it my little secret Taiwanese food haven. I come here fairly often (probably 2-3 times/month) and am probably due for another visit soon. Lucky Corner serves traditional Taiwanese home cooking, as well as Americanized Chinese dishes. You come for the Kung Pao chicken, but you stay for the braised pork over rice. I normally get an item from the Specialties section of the menu, where it's denoted as being "Taiwanese Style." My most ordered plate is probably the chicken cutlet over rice, which comes with a fried chicken cutlet, placed over a mound of rice that has been dressed with a savory minced pork sauce. On the side is usually some stewed veggies, pickled cabbage, pickled daikon, and (my favorite) a hardboiled egg flavored with soy sauce. It's my favorite, because it reminds me so much of the Taiwanese tea shops in my hometown in Southern California (shoutout to Rowland Heightsssss). There's the richness from the minced pork that's balanced with the pickled stuff. The texture of the fried cutlet contrasts with the softness of the rice and egg. It's just .... so good. Some other dishes I've had at Lucky Corner have also been the beef noodle soup, which can definitely warm the cockles of your heart, if you have cockles in need of a warming, the braised pork belly over rice, the popcorn chicken (just like Tapioca Express), and the dumplings. I can highly recommend all of them. In addition, you can get your boba tea fix here. I am partial to the classic milk tea with bubbles, but I also love their other teas as well. Whoever is reading this, I hope you have the chance to try this place, because it's probably the best you're going to get in this region in terms of Asian food. Yes, I'm ranking this as my favorite Asian restaurant. It's a great value, too! You can get a meal here for under $10, and you can definitely get a snack here for less than $5. It's a love it or hate it kind of establishment. It's small, there's no table service, there's no reservations, and some of the dishes are better than others. The dumplings in clear broth were great, as was the minced pork over noodles. The crispy pork over rice was excellent. The teas were all good, both iced and hot, with very pronounced flavors. Lucky corner is always my to-go place for quick and quality minced-pork rice (卤肉饭). Their fried pork rice and stewed pork rice are also pretty good, being basically just adding another kind of pork aside from minced pork rice. The staff are nice. And the service is fast. However, I am always dubious with the ingredients used on other dishes. They had only a tiny kitchen and they had a wide variety of noodle soups and Americanized dishes. Especially sometimes when I tried those noodle soups I found the soup was over-salty and not in fresh flavor. read more

The menu is fairly small, as well as the restaurant itself, but that's alright because everything I have tried thus far is delicious. They're braised minced pork is a great lunch meal, while the stewed pork over rice is great for dinner. Both meals came with pickled cabbage, pickled radish, and a tea egg, and the stewed pork over rice came with a bok choy as well. The stewed pork over rice was definitely my favorite. It comes with a big piece of pork belly and minced pork. The big piece of pork belly was super tender and flavorful and the pickled cabbage, tea egg, and bok choy really made it feel complete. There was a generous portion of rice as well. I have also tried their popcorn chicken, which was good and tender, but I prefer my taiwanese popcorn chicken to be spicy and a little more bite sized. Their milk tea is also tasty, but their boba is a bit on the over cooked side. It doesn't bother me too much though since I only like having boba in my milk tea on occasions. They're really quick! Everything comes out in 10 minutes.. granted I've only been here twice but I'm guessing it's normal since people who came in after me were also getting their food quick. The best part about this place is that it's right around the corner from my apt and it's a literally a three minute walk from my door. Quick, close, affordable, and delicious. Hollllla. read more

This place is a fun little hole in the wall of a bite of Taiwanese/Chinese food. It is not anything fancy, just a small menu and a few tables, but I recommend them. Sometimes they go very heavy on the salt, but otherwise the place is clean, and you can be left alone. I ordered 3 boba drinks here. I really appreciate the laminated plastic top that you can puncture with the straw. It makes it much easier to transport. I give it a 4/5 for now because the drinks tasted a bit dilutes but that is my fault. I didn't drink them right away and with this warm weather the ice melted. I'll have to come back again to try it in store. One thing I have to say is that the boba they make is the best consistency I've had in this area. It's all around chewy inside and out. This small, local Chinese restaurant was delicious, fresh and authentic. The soup bowls are amazing we ordered the crispy chicken soup bowl which came with fresh veggies, a cooked egg and swirled fish cakes that I've only seen in China. We also ordered steamed dumplings which were large and not all the same shape leading me to believe they were made on sight. The dumpling dipping sauce had fresh ginger in it. So happy this business opened in Troy, and even happier it's right around the corner. The food is terrific and the people who own it are courteous and friendly. They even helped shovel out my partner's truck after a snowstorm! My favorites are the taro bubble tea, pork over rice (those hard boiled eggs are stupendous), pork cutlet soup, and steamed dumplings. Haven't tried anything I don't like and I've been going every week since they opened. Mostly they do take-out but I recently dined in and they have proper dining ware and nice service. A while ago it seemed genuine care and concern was put into this food. Not today. I love fried chicken wings so I ordered 6 along with a a pint of fried rice. The chicken was horrendous. It tasted old, not fresh at all and it since I asked for extra crispy their answer was to re-dip in batter and re-fry it. The grease was insane and the chicken had the batter falling off it! It was gross. The fried rice seemed reheated rice in water. I'm used to fried rice having some sort of sautéed texture to it...not this. It was boiled, slimy, nasty tasting whatever it was. It seems to me they made the order out of nothing but end of day re-heated leftovers. I used to rant and rave about this place. Be assured however that you'll never have to worry about me ordering from here again. Next time you attempt to fry chicken 2x, don't! I live a block from Lucky Corner and have received some awesome take out here a few times. I always get the same thing the Taiwanese Style Pot Noodle Soup (with Udon - Meat Ball, Sliced Pork, Egg, Fish Cake and Large Shrimp). I love that they keep the noodles separate than the broth and extras so when I get home I can easily combine the two to my liking. The broth is super clean, clear and flavorful without being salty. When they do say "large shrimp" they literally mean one whole shrimp. Now that I have an official take out menu (I couldn't find a menu online last time!) I'll probably try something different. My boyfriend got the lo mein and he said it was the best (and BIGGEST!!!- he got the quart size but it was overflowing and the container was put in a bag to keep from spilling). He said it was very simple flavors, not too salty and let the pork (in this case) really have center stage. They have a really fancy bubble tea contraption, I've never tried it though. Maybe now that it's officially summer it's time to really get after it. Taiwanese food - finally! This is a little mom and pop shop taking up a tiny bit of space on a residential street. It doesn't quite belong in its location, but who's going to fault them for providing Taiwanese fare? Much of authentic Taiwanese food contains some type of pork (probably true for Chinese dishes in general), and therefore I went with the braised minced pork over rice. It's comfort food really - a bed of white rice with ground pork cooked with a soy based sauce and minced garlic. The meat sits in the sauce and soaks up the moisture of its own fat. The smell is incredibly aromatic, sweet, and savory. The moisture of the sauce dresses the rice and makes it delicious. I sampled the soup base for the beef noodle soup, which did capture the lingering flavors of the meat. The tofu with mixed vegetables was average. If anything, the flavor was more "Americanized" with broccoli, carrots, and mushrooms dressed in a thick soy sauce. Lunch was completed with a boba milk green tea as dessert. The boba was not incredibly fresh or stale, meaning it was chewy but not overly so. I asked for less sugar, which the restaurant was happy to oblige. read more

I actually had a so-so experience with the meal that I ordered, because the chicken and rice dont taste like chicken and rice. And I am irritated with the delivery and the deliver himself. When I was ordering, the guy who answered my call didnt reassure my address. This made the deliver confused with the address and made me wait outside for half an hour. And when he finally came, I gave him cash and he gave me change. I was about to go when he called me to stop. Then he said:" Do you know the rule here?" I was confused and said no. And then he said:" You need to give me tips." I really dont know why he just said this, without hesitation. He continued to persuade me for offering tips for several minutes. I really did not know what to say and just go by leaving 1 buck. Certainly, I understand the tips. However, customers need to give by themselves. If we dont want to, we can choose not. I think it is weird when you ask for tips, especially the meal is already late. This guy looks like Chinese and I dont know why this happens with him. I really dont want to order again. First let me say, the man who took my order today was so very nice and accommodating. I originally went in for just a bubble tea, but after being in the homey and quaint shop for a few minutes, I definitely wanted to sit and have a meal. I got the pickled pork soup with udon noodles, it was so delicious! Pickled veggies and cabbage with small pork chunks and perfectly peppery.
