It's the holidays and we needed to buy a few groceries for some home cooking. Enter Lucky California! My first time shopping here. It reminded me of our Safeway back home. Upon looking up the background of Lucky California, I found out that it's owned by the Save Mart company. The Save Mart Companies, acquired the Northern California division of Albertsons and revived the Lucky brand. Albertsons Companies own Safeway as well. Who knew?! It's a large grocery store that is well stocked with your general food, drinks, household goods and more. Nicely organized with large aisles to move around with your grocery cart. Well lit and signs guide you to the correct location. We found what we wanted and also noticed that Lucky's is open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day! With Bubly being my sparkling water of choice, I'm always happy when I see it on sale, and Lucky seems to run those deals more often than other grocery stores. They also have a great selection, including limited edition flavors like the two new ones released to promote the new Super Mario Galaxy movie. We picked up "Cosmic Swirl," which is berry and vanilla, and "Meteor Melon," which is watermelon lime. The flavors were exciting, and the colorful packaging made them even more fun. The staff at this Lucky are also super friendly and helpful, which makes the experience even better. read more

Sadly leaving this review, but I just hope it will help somehow. I came to return some from Amazon.. and is not service today, but it's ok.. happens sometimes in other locations too. So, I decided to buy some vegetables and a few other things from the store, next I went on self service line, but for some reason that machine didn't recognize my phone number, so I had to ask for help.., big mistake!!!, the lady "on charge " was super busy talking to another coworker..and when I asked for help they just say something.. looking at me and laughed.., I apologized for bothering.. because that lady was o mad.. , finally she type her cos or something and fixed the problem.., horrible mode.., and I have to say that this is the first time in many many years as a Lucky customer..having this horrible customer service. Good luck having an enjoyable experience when shopping here. For my $165 dollar purchase I was met with offensive and insulting comments from their employees and staff. They don't value their customers, are just plain trashy and don't care about anything besides getting their rude comments in leaving you with obnoxious personal remarks when you check out. Lucky's is always great for a quick trip! It's usually not pretty crowded and I can get in and out really quickly! The space is always clean and the employees are always willing to lend a helping hand. The drink and cheese sections are amazing! They have any and all single drinks you can grab and go with. Including Olipop! The cheese case is huge and has so many options for you to explore. I mainly come here exclusively for CBD lotion, wet dog food pouches and Spring Crossing steaks! I do have to say though that this is not the spot for bread. The options are pretty limited so if you are looking for something besides french bread or slice, you might not find it here. read more

I really wanted to like this store. It's HUGE and generally has a great selection of items, however their produce section is awful. Poor quality, and always seem to be out of what I need. Last time they had no fresh dill, this last time no cilantro (except for organic which is quite a bit more expensive). I wanted to be a Lucky customer again. It's been several years since I shopped at a Lucky's store (at least 15 years) and apparently my phone # didn't pull up an account. This was my first visit to this location. The lady helping me said I need an active account to get the sale prices and I was already rung up so there's nothing she could do for me. I couldn't re-sign up right there and then use the account. I felt like leaving the cart full of groceries and walking out. I didn't. I paid full price and left with a plan to not return. All of it! I really hate this store which is bad because it's the most convenient to my home. I've had cashiers demand an extra .20 cents because I used more than the 4 bags I paid for, I have had to wait an interminable amount of time in line, one door closed and locked after I walked over to it with a cart full of nearly $200 worth of groceries - they literally walked in front of me and locked the door so I had to turn around and walk to the other door. Is that a big deal in the whole scheme of things? No, is it good customer service? NO. The final flaw was when I brought my knives in for sharpening, (a service they advertise as free) to the butcher counter. When I picked them up I questioned why one was missing and they said I must have miscounted. I have very expensive Wusthof chef knives and said I didn't think so but gave them the benefit of the doubt. After thoroughly inventorying my kitchen I determined that yes, a $200 10 inch knife is missing. Can I prove it? No. Will I ever go back? No. read more

Terrible customer service. Very lazy people doesn't want to help customers. The sale are not consistent, one day I bought Frito Lay chips for $1.99 and I came back the next day they say you have to buy 3. I approached this Cashier Mirriam who rang me up but would not help me because she said I have to help the people behind me. I was so pissed I asked for the manager. Sending a belated "shout out" to the meat department at Lucky on Clayton Road. DH and I are doing most of our Lucky shopping via Instacart. However, DH has ventured out a few times when he want to pick out the meat himself. (It can be challenging to get a special cut via an Instacart shopper.) For the past holidays we were looking for a standing rib roast. The ones that were on display were huge. Much more than two people needed! DH checked with a butcher who was stocking a display. He recognized DH -- even though DH is rarely in the store these days. He said he would cut a smaller one -- and he did a great job of trimming it, too. Happy to report it was delicious! read more

This review is for the in-house sushi only. We had heard that Lucky had fresh Dungeness Crab in stock for $4.99lb. We were in the area so we decided to take a look. While we were in the store, I saw the sushi and wanted to satisfy my craving for a California Roll. I know that supermarket sushi is rarely as good as what one gets from a sushi-ya, but hey, I'm after a California Roll. These weren't even invented in Japan but up in Seattle, Washington by Tojo. Anyway, what they had on offer looked okay so I got a package of Spicy California Roll. 15 npieces for only $6.25? Can't go wrong there. And there was even an employee making sushi behind the counter. She smiled and greeted me and then thanked me when I made a selection. Flavor wise, it was a California Roll painted with both a spicy sauce and probably Unagi sauce. It was mildly spicy and sweet at the same time. It tastes fresh and satisfied my craving perfectly. The one downside was how the roll was cut. In order to fill out the tray with 15 pieces, they had to be cut very thinly. If presentation affects how a dish is received, the solution to improving this tray is quite simple. Cut 12 pieces instead of 15 and fill out the dead space in the tray with the packet of soy sauce, wasabi and pickled ginger. read more

If you don't have their store app loaded one cannot access any sale prices. Without digital app coupon I was asked to pay $10 for 5 onions . With the app one could access it for.99 cents per pound. Gouging going on for those that are unaware or are simply not so good with technology. Down the street I paid half the price at food 4 less. I don't go into grocery stores very often. I mostly shop at Costco, Concord Produce, and online food markets. However, sometimes the deals at Luckys are too good to pass up, and this is my favorite location to find them at. Employees are always happy to help you find something, and everything is usually well stocked and organized. We went in on Father's Day to get some $0.50 oysters to BBQ and they happened to be out of them, (a nice gentleman employee walked back and double-checked for me) but they gave me a rain-check and I bought lobster tails for $6 each instead! Self-check always seems to be in working order and I get just as good customer service there as I do in the other check-stands, and there lines aren't ever bad either. As I've stated in other Bay Area reviews I've posted, I lived in the Bay Area for a year. Loved so many things about it. One of the things I thought was nice here was Lucky Supermarkets. This one in Concord was so nice. Everyone that works there is warm and friendly. I thought they had the best sales of any of the California supermarkets I went to in the Bay Area. They also always have good stock and helpful people. The stores are clean and not all junked up like some other stores you go into. I'm back home in NY now but I sometimes miss these things from California. It really is the little things in life, you know? I really liked Lucky and we don't have those here, nor are there nearly as many choices for grocery stores where I live now. I kind of want to go look at the current Lucky sales flyer just for the heck of it. I really hope to get a chance to come to California soon. I need a job that will send me on trips!! read more

Lucky is conveniently located with lots of parking. I rarely have to wait more than 5 minutes in line. Self service registers are easy to use. Also, the aisles are roomy and it's easy to maneuver when several customers are there with their shopping carts. They also have a decent amount of products in their ethnic aisle which is great. I do notice, however, that there seems to be errors in their weekly ads way too often. Pricing is either incorrect or "Must Buy 2" isn't stated on an item but you still have to do so to get a discount. And they don't honor the original promotion because they try to correct it by displaying a sign next to the item on the shelf. But you don't know this until you come into the store and you already have a sale price in your mind after looking through the ad at home. Whoopsie! Unfortunately, I do not do all of my grocery shopping at one store. I come here for certain loss leader items (when whole chickens are .77/lb or large cantaloupes are .99) to save money. Otherwise I think Lucky is more expensive than other grocery stores. But sometimes convenience comes at a price. You just have to be savvy and do your homework before making those grocery trips! read more

Been going to this one for over 20 years. They are great. And this is specifically not about them. This is about the couple in the 50+ age range who decided they'd just love to prove how much they love Trump... zero masks. But they proudly wore their Trump 2024 shirts. No masks in the produce section. Making out with each other. They were making a point. And in the few minutes that I watched them they absolutely humiliated the Lucky staff. Repeatedly, a staff member would ask them to put on their masks, and the scofflaws laughed in their faces and asked them "what are you going to do about it? Call the police?" I wear a mask. I have asthma. It's harder to breathe through a mask for me. Watching the Lucky staff cower and be intimidated was sad. I have sympathy. Great store and a nice alternative to my favorite in the valley which happens to be the parent company to Lucky now. They seem to carry things in their store that I can't find in my home store (SaveMart) but up until recently it looks like the inventory is starting to sync up. The store is clean, well laid out and the staff seem to be very friendly. I guess my only gripe is that it's further from my future home than I would like but I am sure I can make it work. Smh. Geeze. I tried to give Lucky another chance. Yesterday I went in and purchased a few items. The smaller heavy whipping cream on the shelf said $1.89. When I rang it up, it said $3.43. No way! That's crazy! Then I realize the container is frozen solid. Why?? So I ask for a price check and a new container. They somewhat try to tell me that it is indeed $3.43 but I tell them that is not true. The dairy person confirms the $1.89 price and brings me a new carton. She then asks me if I grabbed the frozen one from a trough at the bottom of the refrigerator. I said no, I grabbed it from the shelf where they are all located. Why would I grab it from the trough? THEN I purchased a "Shaka Tea." It literally expired in AUGUST of 2020. EW! It is December. I didn't realize until I took a sip that it had an odd taste and was expired. Gross. My review is for Rick in Meats. The other day I called the meat department looking for uncle Lou's hand cleaned pork chitterlings. Rick assisted me and was so wonderful. Even though they did not have what I was looking for he had a wonderful customer service skills and explain to me the time in the season in which I can call the store to order what I was looking for he was wonderful and a lot of help. He was also very polite and had all the great qualities as a customer service representative shed. If ever in the area and you need any help or guidance in the meat department Rickk is your guy. So I have been using the Lucky doorstep delivery via Instacart, so this review is for that. So far so good. Maybe it is just the shopper I get as I have been fortunate enough to have the same shopper multiple times, but he has done a great job. Great communication via chat (you need to make sure you are available for them to give feedback for subs). The items always arrive in great condition. They have been out of things a lot, but really that is true a lot of places. This week they were replacing freezers because the equipment was not working right so freezer stock was severely limited, but I really appreciate that the store is taking food safety seriously and making sure they have properly working freezers. I didn't start using Lucky until recently, but I think I will be frequenting them via Instacart more often. I used to stop by often for certain items before COVID, so I am happy to be back to getting some of my favorites. I am also so impressed by the options they have too! I can get plenty of vegan and unique options at Lucky instead of just relying on Whole Foods. read more

First time we stepped foot in our nearest Lucky's since we hit the area 3 years ago. What a surprise. This store is huge. We found items we did not know even existed in the real world. Best yet, the prices are very good and perhaps lower than the sacred Safeway. Today we picked up some steaks, cut while we waited from the butcher, some treats for the Chargers/Raiders game and a gosh darn pumpkin.
